Hellooooo there

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:56

coleslaw is ok. As long as not made with raw eggs. There is loads of info online why certain foods should be avoided but personal choice i guess.

I am avoiding lots of things and also when in the garden ensuring wearing gloves etc as really dont want to risk, tried so hard to concieve this beanie just dont want to risk anything.

Naetha · 20/08/2007 15:57

Like Mixedmama says - as long as its in moderation, and you don't go bananas, then you should be OK.

I have a really odd craving at the moment - I get the urge to have jelly (which isn't so bizarre) but I really want to eat it by sucking it through a straw. Am I bonkers?

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:58

bought a tub of coleslaw from Sainsbury last week and just by chance i read the ingredients and saw that it had unpasturised eggs in it.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:59

Naetha - my ds loooves jelly through straw

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 16:01

I just expect everything from the supermarket to be pastuerised. Very naive off me.

Luckily for me alot of the time I dont like the things you need to avoid anyway. I ddont like nuts of any kind really (except in a snickers), not keen on cheese in any form and dont really drink, dont like pate, so I guess not a real issue for me.

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 16:43

by the way, my GP (nice, down to earth lady) told me not to worry about unpasteurised eggs...I was worrying about making icing for DH's birthday cake and she told me that since most eggs in the UK have the lion mark, which means that they are certified salmonella free, it just isn't an issue here. one more fear bites the dust...!
although i am shocked that supermarket coleslaw contains raw egg - i make my own, but if i bought it it would never occur to me to check....
i've been eating most of my fruit and veg unwashed, but its all organic so i'm working on the principle that some germs must be good for you!
i can't go the next directory route again - i did that last pregnancy and got really annoyed that they started sending me catalogues every few months and then charging me for them!! Even after I'd asked them to stop!!

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 16:46

Naetha - I forgot to say that the same GP was very reassuring about taking antihistamines when hayfever got too bad...she said piriton was best (but it totally knocks me out, so only useful at night time) and that loratadine and the others were basically fine...trouble is that no-one can really test drugs on expectant mums so almost nothing gets approved.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 16:46

Thats exactly what happened to me. Except I have kept mine. So cheeky that you have to go down that route to buy a few bits off their site though.

After reading thread this afternoon any guilt I had about ordering deep fried brie for my starter yesterday has gone he he!

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 17:22

I'm not ignoring the importance of being healthy and avoiding dangerous stuff during pregnancy, but I really do think there's far too much guilt attached to motherhood anyway - and we do quite enough self-flagellation whilst being parents (well, I do anyway...I beat myself up about pretty much everything and DS1 is only 2!) without being made to feel even worse about eating the occasional bit of smelly cheese or having a glass of wine!

Cazzybaby · 20/08/2007 17:28

I cant stand it when my friends watch what i'm eating and then say every five seconds 'are you allowed that, is that ok to eat?' argggggggggg

Cazzybaby · 20/08/2007 17:29

Sorry mini rant there!

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 17:44

Completely agree. It only gets worse once you have the baby, drives me nuts everyone telling me what to do and pulling faces.

Oh not BF
Oh he has a dummmy
Oh bloody oh this and that

I dont comment or even think about anyones children. Sorry!!

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 17:45

'sokay...i get even more annoyed when friends don't even offer me wine when we go round for dinner. I mean, I'll probably say no, but I really might fancy half a glass....

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 17:47

The trouble with being pregnant/having children is that suddenly you become public property. I remember being stopped by some random woman in Waitrose to tell me that DS1 wasn't sufficiently covered up and must be cold. In 31 degree heat. In August. Grrrr!!!!! In the end, you've just got to let it wash right over you...

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 18:07

Completely. Still drives me insane tho. Going to tell everyone to mind their own business this time.

gingeme · 20/08/2007 18:31

Eating and pregnancy changes from week to week. The only thing I dont eat is peanuts or alcahol.
Thanks for the info on honey though I often wondered why babys under one wasnt allowed it though I do occasionaly give it to ds4 who is 10 months in a sandwich and hes ok.
Talking of food my pizzas ready. Sees ya laters

sideways · 20/08/2007 20:57

Hello all, having promised ages ago to pop in regularly, I failed miserably.

I have a good excuse though. My morning sickness got so bad that I lost nearly 3 stone and ended up in hospital for 2 weeks on a drip. I am still taking drugs and probably will do till the end and they are the only things allowing me to eat and drink (all those of you worried about the odd glass of wine or lump of brie - I am on 5 different drugs so dread to think what that is doing to the baby!!).

Pleased to hear you are all doing well. Despite the weight loss, I have a bump and need to find some maternity clothes in the next few weeks.

Look forward to catching up with you all soon.

toomanyshoes · 20/08/2007 22:44

so glad i'm not the only one eating forbidden food!! I was so strict last time and avoided everything on the list, this time I seem to have much more of a 'stuff it' attitude to all the rules and regulations. Have had soft cheese, undercooked eggs, pate, peanuts etc!!

I just believed everything my midwife told me before but when I actually looked into it properly this time I decided the risks were minute and if I lived somewhere else there would be a totally different list of do's and don'ts. I have also found that every midwife/doctor you speak to tells you something different. It also really irritated me that they changed the reccomendations on alcohol to 'drink nothing!' based on absolutely no new research.

Anyway, rant over, just drives me a bit barmy Off to bed now, knackered as usual!

MotherofZ · 21/08/2007 08:03

Morning all - seems like there was a lot of ranting going on last night!
Hope you are all ok. Sorry to hear about your sickness sideways - hope you feel better soon.
xx

LilyLoo · 21/08/2007 09:22

ooh glad to see most of us a bit more relaxed about what we can and can't eat. I am a little bit in moderation of most things too.
Hope everyone has a good day, the sun even shining here!
Am hoping to chill out a bit today as shattered from going to Gullivers world with the dc's yesterday. They both tired too which mans a dya of arguments
Can't wait until Thurs to get my scan done and good idea Awen never thought to ask for more than one pic, will do that as want to send some to Australia to dp's sister and niece!

Naetha · 21/08/2007 10:17

Morning all

Sorry to hear about your sickness Sideways - that sounds like an absolute nightmare! Its horrible being in hospital at the best of times, but even worse when you're pregnant.

I've thrown a sickie today - I've got a cold that's settled right on my chest - I've completely lost my voice and it really hurts when I cough. It was obvious I was losing my voice yesterday and yet my boss was still getting me to make phone calls for him so its his fault I'm off work today! Unfortunately I'm restricted to just paracetamol and hot tea, so unfortunately I can't glug my usual sore-throat soother, I just hope I feel better soon

gingeme · 21/08/2007 10:28

Neatha hope your on the mend soon but please dont send it this way
Lillyloo of your sunshine you can pass some of that this way if you like please?
Felt bean moving loads last night. I love feeling the movements. Just realised my 20 week scan is a week today. I didnt think it was till next Thursday. Cant wait to see the flavour. Trying hard not to set my heart on a pink one too much though it is quite hard.
