Never heard of the honey thing. i have loads of honey in tea and things. Whats the reasoning behind it, do you know?

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:22

I've never heard anything about honey being a 'no-no'.
Anyone else know???

MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:24

think to do with bacteria in it. Hang on will google it .. feel stupid cos been avoiding hunny (which would have really helped my sore throat/cold/cough last month)

MrsMcJnr · 20/08/2007 15:26

Awen what a cute kid!! Couldn?t see scan pics though I think I read something about fresh honey being a no no too but not supermarket stuff.

MotherofZ ? that?s a bit tight with the photos! My hospital ask for a £10 donation but they gave me 4 pics.

That?s exciting Barristermum I bought some lovely clothes from Formes a couple of weeks back, 50% off in the sale. I?ve also just bought that book about how to have a baby on e-bay ? I?ve never used ebay before but know Amazon well.

Fluffymummy ? I?m not there yet either (unless my baby is early ) I am 19 weeks tomorrow! Can understand why you don?t want to risk the promotion ? hope you get it soon so you can start getting comfy at work!

Naetha ? I read in my What to expect book that you have to keep your liquids up and I drank lots of ½ orange juice, ½ hot water drinks but can?t say it made me feel much better I?m afraid!

Mixedmama eagerly awaits news on honey

ooo found some articles saying is fine for mum but not for babies under a year because it contains botulinum spores.

"Pregnant woman can safely eat honey. Pregnant Mom?s digestive tracts are acidic and will prevent the spores from germinating thus preventing any danger to the fetus from eating honey. Men, Women, and older children are routinely exposed to the spores that can be present in honey without any affect"

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 15:28

Does anyone know which M&S stores in North London sell maternity clothes? I'm sure the big one at Brent X doesnt!

Awen - I had elasticated DP jeans last time around, and you're right, they just kept on falling down. Gave up on them for anything except tv watching in the end, total waste of money!

More advice on tops (not smock tops, I hate them!) would be great! I urgently need a few more inexpensive work-friendly tops!!

MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:28

I took scan pics off again as they have my name etc on it and dont like to leave them on for long. Are you around for a little while? If so will quickly change viewing on them, if not will catch up later

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:29

Breathing a sigh of relief that i dont have to give up honey.

That is interesting as to why babies shouldnt have honey, i thought it was just because it was sweet.

I got some really nice jersey tops from Next. Good for work and with jeans.

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 15:31

PS This time around I'm afraid I've been eating everything...including some lovely unpasteurised cheese in Paris (DH was annoyed with me tho) and chopped liver (but not in large amounts). Drinking a few units a week too! Given up on the whole 'you can't have this or that' thing ever since the doctor suggested I avoid peanuts, even tho we've never had a nut allergy on either side of the family, ever!!!...although I have been taking my folic acid religiously!

MrsMcJnr · 20/08/2007 15:32

Awen - here for another hour

fluffymummy · 20/08/2007 15:32

Thanks mixedmama - unfortunately my nearest Next is pants (altho I do love my jeans). I think my biggest challenge is a lack of time to actually get to the shops and find the stuff that's there...I seem to spend my life running between the office and getting home for DS1, occasionally squeezing in a quick trip to the gym along the way...

MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:35

mrsmcjnr - changed privacy settings

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:35

Try the NEXT website aswell...

MrsMcJnr · 20/08/2007 15:37

Wow Awen so clear - the legs in particular are so baby like (rather than Beanie like if you know what I mean!) thanks for sharing

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:37

Only thing with the website is that you have to becomme a directory customer... I found that out when i was pregnant last time and wnated to get some clothes for work (they were paying so needed to use the site). I now have a Next directory with an obscene credit limit that you would just never use at Next.

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:38

the one with the really clear legs is 2 stuck together. I particular like it as he is 'facing the camera'. DP said it feels so much more real since scan and he also felt beanie move at the weekend.

Naetha · 20/08/2007 15:39

I've been the same fluffy - I've drunk alcohol, I've eaten brie (in fact, I have some in the fridge which I might eat later tonight!) peanuts, pate and all manner of unwashed veg and unpasteurized stuff. I've also taken loratadine and cetirizine hydrochloride (antihistamines which are a big pregnancy no-no) although only in tiny amounts in an emergency, and I'm about to have another lemsip.

If you actually read the guidance, for things like Loratadine, it caused foetal abnormalities in some rats when given at 50 times the normal dose daily throughout the pregnancy. I think the risk of taking one pill twice in the whole pregnancy is acceptably low.

Not to mention the fact that people all over the world and for hundreds of years have eaten, drunk, smoked and taken all manner of pills and other things, and most of their babies have come out OK

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:46

i think most things in proportion are generally acceptable. altho years ago there were more instances of disorders and things. having said that people were drinking as they normally would rather than cutting back a little and generally not changing habits at all. I have ice cream man ice cream quite a lot as really craving it and the MW said no no. I also dont rewash packaged salad.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:49

ooh, and I've had coleslaw in my baked pot a couple of times too.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:50

Are we not allowed coleslaw either.... I have had that loads and prawns on jacket potato.

OP posts:
Naetha · 20/08/2007 15:51

Coleslaw is another thing that goes on the list of things I didn't know I wasn't meant to eat and have been guzzling since I got preggers.

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:53

well the man selling it at the stall couldn't verify if it had pasturised or unpasterised egg in it - but it looked so yummy and creamy that I went for it.

MrsMcJnr · 20/08/2007 15:55

Sure it's fine if the mayo isn't fresh and let's face it, it hardly ever is!
