Ouch about the wasp bite - hope you feel better!

We've discovered a wasp nest on one of our drain pipes near our garden entrance, and it such a pain having to be careful going in and out the house, especially for DD who wants to be in the garden all the time. Contacted the council who said it's up to us to get rid of it, so we've been spraying loads of wasp next killer on it which has calmed it down a little.

gingeme · 22/08/2007 11:22

Why were wasps invented? I hate the bloody things
Morning ladies feeling quite sick this morning not sure why. Got lower back pain too but then I think Im a bit constipated.
Got my maternity trousers on today with a smock top. Im going to be traveling on the tube a bit later so if I stick my belly out enough I might get a seat. Dh usualy stands up with ds4's buggy so he wont be worried about a seat.
Well done on selling your car beller. Hope you got a good price for it. I hope you can have your home birth despite your anemia. I had one with my last baby and it was fab. Im having a water birth at hospital this time mainly because we live in a flat and have been told our floor is not structuraly safe to hold a birthing pool.Asked last time as wanted a home water birth. Mind you the mw did say if this baby comes as quick as the last one I could probably do it in my bath anywya. Well see.
Well its still chucking it down here but they reckon it could brighten up by the weekend.
Have a good day all xx

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 11:29

ok guys got a bit of a query, so posting on both the Dec and Jan thread for any advice...

I've seen the most fantastic brilliant job advertised which would be the next step up the career ladder for me and part time, but don't know whether to apply??? I think I am in with a good chance of getting it as it requries specific analytical and statitical skills, which I posses, but worried about what would happen to my maternity leave/pay? Plus am due to go on maternity leave in three months, so I don't think I would be their first choice...
Go for it or not?

Cazzybaby · 22/08/2007 11:31

Morning All

Beller that is awful about the hospital, I am trying not to think to much about the hospital part of giving birth at the moment cos it scares me. Hope you manage to get a home birth and congrats on selling the car!

MotherofZ ? once all the wasps have been killed see if you can get the wasps nest down and have a look at it, they are amazing inside! We had loads in our garden as a Kid and they are interesting to have a look at. (was I easily amused as a child??)

Gingeme ? Sorry your not feeling well, the weather here is very gray today, Hopefully we will have a nice sunny bank holiday weekend!

I am feeling lonely today as DP is away in Germany, but going to cinema with mum tonight to watch the new bourne film so hopefully that will cheer me up.

Was thinking earlier that we are all going to be massive at Christmas time, perfect excuse to go crazy on the Turkey and Christmas pud. I wonder if we will have any xmas babies

gingeme · 22/08/2007 11:37

Thanks cazzybaby turkey and christmas pud bring on the heartburn. Ive been pregnant with 3 babys over christmas and its not a pleasant experiance. Our last ds was born in October so I had a pregnant free christmas though only had a white wine spritzer with my dinner as I was bf.
Its my ds2's 12th birthday today. I sent him some money so he can get what he wants. Dont realy like to do that but I wouldnt have a clue where to start with ds games and Xbox 360 games. If you told me 12 years ago Id be doing it all again I would have laughed at you.........

Cazzybaby · 22/08/2007 11:43

MotherofZ - thats a though one, if you think the job is for you then you should deffinatly go for it. Being pregnant should not affect there decision, however it is hard to beleive that it wouldnt. If they like you being pregnant should have no impact, and if it does and they discriminate against you for it, then are they the sort of company you really want to be working for. DOes that make sense??

Cazzybaby · 22/08/2007 11:44

Gingme - ahhhhh dont tell me that about the xmas pud and turkey I had the perfect excuse to pig out big style over the festive season all worked out!!

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 11:50

Cazzy - looking inside a wasps nest does not interest me at all!! Scared that a stray wasp might some how fly out.
Thanks for the advice!!!

mixedmama · 22/08/2007 11:56

MotherofZ - go for it ig you feel that it is the next move and you are convinced that you will definitely be returning as it would be a shame to uproot yourself for just three months. Having said that altho they shoulldnt discriminate, you do have to think about it operationally fromt heri point of view. I try not to look at jobs whilst pregnant otherwise I will just drive myself mad.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 13:12

I think I am going to go home tonight and think it through properly. Think I saw the job advert and got really excited without looking at the big picture.
Cheers all.

MrsMcJnr · 22/08/2007 13:40

Hey ladies sorry for leaving you yesterday ? felt crap and came home and camped out on the couch with DH (came home to ?look after me? ) feeling so much better today though nervous about MW?s appointment this afternoon (as always!)

So glad your scan went well LouiseSJ, can?t wait for mine 2 weeks time. 12 photos! Wow! I haven?t done any research yet into equipment, I am waiting until after my scan too

Mixedmama ? I get migraines so can sympathise, yours sound much more scary though. Hope you don?t get one like the first one again! Read your posy about GTT too quickly and thought you said you?d just had a G&T!

Cazzybaby ? every night I lie in bed with my hands on my belly concentrating to see what I can feel (from the inside that is) and every night, I feel something, wonder what it is, hope to feel it again to assess it but fall asleep before I can!! Very frustrating! Good luck! I just want to stay at home with DH at Christmas but PIL want us to get all dolled up and drive 45mins to their house am adamant I won?t be pushed into something I don?t feel up to though!

Gingeme ? enjoy your day out we have sun in Scotland at last ? I have 2 loads of washing outside and it makes me feel grrrrrrreat oh the simple pleasures! Happy b?day to DS2!

Hello Fluffymummy- oh dear, we sound like a whiney bunch with our headaches, sickness and colds don?t we? so much for blooming! Sorry that the GP gave you a hard time, 8 pounds in 17 weeks doesn?t sound bad. Compared to your last pregnancy, that is hardly anything. I haven?t put on much yet but I was a bit heavy to start with chase the hospital re your scan, what harm can it do?!

Beller ? very jealous of all the movement, I?m still not sure if or what I am feeling that?s a horrible story about your hospital nasty about the wasp I am allergic to them so am terrified! Great news about the car ? fingers crossed!

Naetha ? sorry I wasn?t here yesterday to reassure you! I have read that that can often happen with orgasm, it?s the muscle spasms, it is perfectly normal but kind of puts you off them hope you are ok x

Barristermum ? so glad it went well yesterday, that?s what I am hoping for this afternoon re nurseries, quite right, my friends have told me that there are ?people? on the waiting lists who haven?t been conceived yet! I?m hoping I won?t need one in this country but think I?ll have to give myself a cut off point when I start looking if things don?t seem to be going the way we want. Well said on the food ? common sense prevails

Tili lovely to hear from you! how are you hon? Wow 4 months already!! So glad you are enjoying him and exciting times for Beth too! I am 19+1 today hoping to hear the heartbeat at my MW appointment this afternoon, I really find some reassurance helps! I?ve got my 20 week scan in 2 weeks so am hoping that all will be fine

Hey Awen I?ve had my friend and her kids (9&11) here since Sunday ? it has been exhausting! Glad all went well at the MW and that she was cross about the BMI comment! What?s a glucose tolerance test?

Ayreshirelolo ? sorry to hear that you haven?t been feeling great, I hope you feel much better soon, time off will help

Bedtime used to be 11.30 but it?s strictly 10 now, I?m up at 6 for work so need every second of sleep from 10pm ? love sleep!

Hello MotherofZ tricky re the job - you need PBirdy I think you?d lose your entitlement to mat benefit at your current job wouldn?t you if you left before you go on mat leave? No harm applying and explaining your position and seeing how they?d feel about speaking to you after mat leave though? It might suit them

beller · 22/08/2007 14:45

im with you on the sleep Mrsmcjnr....if im still up at 10..its late..normally in bed by 9-9.30!

MOtherofz- like you say have a think about it tonight..but whats the harm in applying? If the time scale dosnt suit them then It wont happen, but wont know unless you try?

barristermum · 22/08/2007 15:02

Motherofz I think you have to be in a job for 12 months before you are entitled to maternity leave - as MrsMcJnr says its pbirdy we really need - but I think it would screw your plans unless they were prepared to take youat the end of your maternity entitlement at your present job.
Good luck for your scan MrsMcJnr - hope it's lovely. My 20 week scan had to be put back for my work commitments, now 11/9 which seems ages away but heigh-ho!
I need my sleep so much more than before - used to be a real reader in bed and can now barely manage a few pages before having to give in.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 15:43

Really don't want to lose my maternity pay, so I think that will be a big deciding factor.

jkate · 22/08/2007 15:43

Hello I've been directed to this thread as I'm due in Jan 08. Starting to consider mat leave myself now and deciding when to start it. Is 2 weeks before the due date enough or is three better and then you get loads time if nothing happens too early that is. What are other people planning to do?

jkate · 22/08/2007 15:49

Hi MotherofZ maternity pay bugging me also, I will get the full deal as have been with employer more than two years but the catch is if i apply for flexible working under the new rules(ie part time) and its declined i could just leave but i'd owe back my AMP (additional mat pay) or have to go back full time for abit before i could leave and then go part time someplace else, fingers crossed they say yes when i apply, i think they have to have a solid reason to say no now days.

MrsMcJnr · 22/08/2007 15:58

Welcome Jkate so many things to think through hey!?

All was fine at the MW, bp under control and baby has a strong beating heart

DH and I were talking and he thinks I should suggest to work that I work from home 2 days a week and thereby save my energy a bit. I don't know if they'll go for it but figure it's worth a try - has anyone suggested this or got any expereince of trying this? as it is, I work from home whenever I have an AN appointment and I have full access to all work systems.

jkate · 22/08/2007 16:05

Working from home 2 days a week sounds fab, I would certainly do that if my job allowed but its not the sort of job i can do at home anyway, good employer though, other people have recently started working flexi/part time. I think we prego ladies have loads of rights now days and they should be excercised guilt free and to the utmost!

beller · 22/08/2007 16:19

Ooops motherofz...forgot about the small matter of maternity pay ...

Jkate - welcome! Not sure when im going to leave..start very early in morning, so will have to see how i feel, but will be a minimum of 3 weeks i think? Have to get upt at 5-5.30 and have an hour travelling too!

If I dont get my nursery up and running in time...(unlikely!) I may come back for a while, but would definately have to be part time or I would never get the see babybel! Although again, not really that easy in this job...definately cant work from home, but if you have access to all the systems Mrsmcjnr....worth a go!

LilyLoo · 22/08/2007 16:20

I would ask Mrs Mc nothing lost and tbh they would have to seriously consider it if you wanted to do it when you returned. Good stuff about apt can't wait for my scan tom and going to take ds as well as it's school hols and just goping to pretend i didn't see the sign last time about only two in the room, as i know some of you on here have hadmore than two there.
I can't believe the weather here it's georgeous i have washed all my beeding and dried it and put it back on the beds, mmm love the smell of clean sheets.
I did exactly same Cazzy as i was pg with dd, birthday 13th Jan and ate loads, great excuse although looking back at xmas photos i was huge , and we also get to be designated taxi service!
Not sure about that motherofz as i am not sure you would be entitled to any mat pay other than statutory.
Welcome Jkate when you due?
Hope you have ahd a good day Awen.
Ha ha me too Barristermum i managed a whole 3 pages last night
ooh Beller hope the stings gone away, wonder if you will pass antibodies on to baby now ? That's awful abouit the hospital saw that article and felt so sorry for that poor woman, will you still stick with that hospital?

scrummydelish · 22/08/2007 16:23

Have changed nickname to scrummydelish from jkate, long story but not rude, sadly. Must go and eat again, havent a clue what i weigh, didnt before i was prego either, probably for the best, am not porky yet though as i walk and do a pre natal excercise dvd, hmmmmm where's that carrot cake....

scrummydelish · 22/08/2007 16:28

Hi lilyloo and beller, am due january 3rd. Those early starts sound harsh beller! Mind you i have to get up at 6.15 so thats still quite rubbish also. Minimum of 3 weeks is sensible i think. Am moving house so hope to get in and settled and do the nursery in nov, mat leave in dec, baby out in jan! ha ha when does life ever go that much to plan!

mixedmama · 22/08/2007 16:35

I guess because of Xmas and things leaving arounnd that time makes sense. I think I will leave the Friday before Xmas week,, only one week but I had about 10 last time and it dragged so I would say not too long unlless you need it of course.

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 22/08/2007 16:41

At the AN Physio class I was at on Monday night, the physio told us all to seriously consider leaving work between 32 and 36 weeks because it becomes such a strain. Thing is financially, that makes a big dent in your mat leave doesn't it?

mixedmama · 22/08/2007 17:45

If you have any holiday tho you could take that first so it isnt all mat leave.

Also, it does get a bit boring as as soon as you are off work, everyone starts calling daily with any news???
