Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well.

I'm 17 weeks now, had gender scan on Saturday and we have a boy and a girl ❤️

I was hoping for some advice on a next to me/
Cot for our bedroom. I was hoping to get one they could share but the next to me cribs seem really small.

Has anyone been watched the baby has landed (uk) they have a square cot for the twins which would be ideal but I can't find one anywhere!

Any suggestions would be brilliant

Ummusomebody · 19/12/2019 10:05

Congratulations @SleepingStandingUpthey look gorgeous.

Chaosonthehorizon · 31/12/2019 17:29

Anyone going from 2-4 what are you doing about cars? It is our Christmas/new year homework and at least a bit less stressful than deciding where to move to. 2020 is going to be the year of many £££ spent😱 thank you very much Mother Nature!

Girlinglasses · 31/12/2019 23:34

Hello all and happy new year, and congrats on all of your twinnies!

I have a question, and was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience. I am 8+5 and had an early scan today as I had a miscarriage earlier this year. Baby measured exactly 8+5, with a strong heart beat, and was wriggling away. Then the doctor pointed out the second sac!!! The second sac had a visible yolk, but nothing like what was visible for baby 1. The doctor said that either a) baby 2 fertilised/implanted later than baby 1 and will show up on the next scan which I have to have in 2 weeks, or b) that baby 2 isn't viable and will disappear by the next scan. I asked which was more likely and she wasn't willing to say, but I'm presuming option b is the most likely- I just wondered if anyone else had a similar situation? I just assumed 8+5 is very late to not be able to see an obviously fetal pole+heartbeat...

Anyway sorry for the essay and I hope you all have a lovely new year!

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2020 09:01

@Girlinglasses no experience just a big hug as it just be a really anxious wait xx

Girlinglasses · 03/01/2020 16:52

@SleepingStandingUp thank you! It's just a bit bizarre really- trying to focus on the fact that there's one very healthy looking embryo in there but it's hard to not have mixed feelings, and as with everything in preggo-land, the wait is torture!! Ah well, I'll know soon enough either way!

Ummusomebody · 07/01/2020 22:29

@Chaosonthehorizon same here. 2020 will be expensive. We have been looking at toyota estima - 8 seaters as prefers something with room to carry extra if needed. I was eying discovery/audiq7 but dh thinks I'm mad - we can't afford the likes lol. But a girl can dream!

Chaosonthehorizon · 08/01/2020 10:05

Thanks Ummusomebody that is another to add to our list. We have actually ruled out the big SUV’s for cost reasons but also because they aren’t great for 4 car seats. The Audi is ok but apparently when it breaks down it is extortionate to repair (heard from a lot of Audi owners). So whilst I too would love to dream I guess that might end up being a nightmare. The caravelle seems very expensive but I gather VW’s are pretty reliable.

Passionfruit20 · 08/01/2020 10:09

How is everyone going? I am 25 weeks tomorrow and have horrendous back pain, heartburn, eczema all over the lower half of my face and now I’ve started getting purple stretch marks on my lower bump! Arghhh. Plus I’m regularly anxious about the twins (we’ve had some scares with amniotic fluid levels) so feeling a bit on struggle street!! I want to fast forward 12 weeks and just have two healthy babies, but instead I’m battling my way into work and trying to pretend I feel like a functional human being 😂🙈
Anyone else?

@Girlinglasses have you had another scan yet? We had an early scan at 8 weeks and our sonographer didn’t even realise we had twins. She told us one baby with heartbeat. It wasn’t until our 12 week scan that they told us there were two. So not the same as you, but obviously stuff is easy to miss in that first scan. Hope it’s turned out well.

@Jemstar33 we are going straight for a cot bed which we will put in our bedroom, close to our bed. I originally wanted a co-sleeper, but they don’t generally seem big enough for two babies for very long, so that’s why we will go straight to cot bed, and keep them both in one cot as long as we can! I’ve spoken to a few twin mums who say they often settle better together, all the way up to when they start waking each other up! I don’t know how we will fit two cot beds in our room once that happens, but we will squeeze somehow!

@Passionfruit20 oh wow ok so it can happen then 🙈 No, next scan is on Tuesday- I guess she wants to be super sure that she'll be able to see what she needs to see, and I'll be nearly 11 weeks by then so can probably be pretty confident we know what we are dealing with, whatever the outcome! To be honest my gut feeling is that there will only be one little one by then as my nausea has really eased back since about 6-7 weeks, but then every now and then I get super convinced it will be two so we'll see. I'll keep you updated!

Passionfruit20 · 08/01/2020 11:15

@Girlinglasses - fingers crossed for you :)

Hi everyone!

Quick update from me. Sorry I've not been on this thread for ages but events took a strange turn. I haven't caught up with the thread, sorry, but hope you're all doing amazingly well!

I went into labour on 22nd November at 22+5. Our daughter was born that evening and she was taken to NICU which is where she is to this day. Tiny but fighting!

I developed Sepsis after she was born so three days later, I was induced and our son was born at 23+1. He fought hard but was very poorly and at 4 days old he passed away in my arms with his daddy next to him.

My little girl is 6 weeks and 5 days old and we've had our very first cuddle today. She's 1190g (525g at birth) and doing well despite being very poorly. Every day she gets a tiny bit stronger.

I'm so sorry if this post scares you. I understand why but try not to let one experience of a twin pregnancy put a dent in one of the happiest and most magical times of your lives.

Keep going mummies!

Girlinglasses · 08/01/2020 20:14

@Squiff70 I am so sorry to hear about your darling son, and am sending every positive vibe for your little fighter in the NICU. This must be such a difficult and emotional time for you but your positivity is really inspirational- sending your family lots of love ❤️

SleepingStandingUp · 09/01/2020 00:49

@Squiff70 I'm so sorry about your sweet boy, that's so early for any baby let alone twins, your lite girl truly is a miraclexx

Snailandthewhale · 09/01/2020 08:21

@Squiff70 I'm so sorry about your boy. your little girl must be strong, praying it continues ❤️

Chaosonthehorizon · 11/01/2020 15:25

Squiff70 so sorry to hear about your boy, hope your girl is powering on.

How is everyone else? I am over half way now, anyone else due (or scheduled) at the beginning of May?

Jemstar33 · 11/01/2020 15:57

I'm due 27th May (based on 40 weeks) @Chaosonthehorizon
Had anomaly scan yesterday and both looking good.
How are you doing?

Thanks for the reply and advice @passionfruit20 I'm going to do the same re cot in our room.

Chaosonthehorizon · 11/01/2020 19:27

Jemstar33 ah that is nice 😀. My original due date was the beginning of June but I can’t go over 36 wks with these two! Enjoying collecting the bits and bobs needed for an extra one (!) lovely how generous people are being with cast offs. Downside is that our house looks like a crèche!

Jemstar33 · 11/01/2020 20:49

@Chaosonthehorizon Have you had the 36wk agreement based on previous pregnancy? I've got an appointment with the consultant on Wednesday where we will discuss birthing plan. So hoping to have a better idea on when to expect them!

It is lovely to have things passed on. We have everything in the loft at the moment. Can't wait to bring it all down 😬

For those who are working at the moment, what week are you planning to start mat leave? I'm hoping to start at 32 weeks, I have a few weeks holiday to take before that too, so actually more like to be 30 weeks. Wow, I've just realised that's only 10 weeks away!!

Jemstar33 · 11/01/2020 20:52

@Squiff70 thinking of you and your little fighter. So sorry to hear about your boy 🧡

Jemstar33 · 11/01/2020 20:58

@passionfruit20 sorry I'm just catching up on the previous posts.

I too have had eczema all over my legs since about 10 weeks. I've been using sudocrem but it gets everywhere. Also the heartburn has just started for me, I went to a pregnancy yoga session last week and a lot of women recommended the love heart sweets - this may not be news to anyone else but it was the first I had heard. I've stocked up and they do seem to be helping! Much cheaper to heartburn tablets and taste better too!

Chaosonthehorizon · 13/01/2020 08:44

My skin is terrible too (not a problem I have had in previous pregnancies), eczema on my hands and rosacea on my face. Lovely! Jemstar33 it is because they are high risk, sharing a placenta but luckily separate sacs. Have to deliver at 36 wks, I don’t want my placenta to fail and this is the third section for me. I suspect by the time comes I will be pleased for them to come out then. As long as they continue to be fine, they say that the babies will just stay with me with no nicu time. Fingers tightly crossed!

MrsEG · 17/01/2020 20:28

Hi all, I managed to completely lose this thread with it moving places!

@Squiff70 What an ordeal you have had; I am so delighted your daughter is coming along so well but so terribly sorry about your son. I can’t even imagine everything you have been through the past few months. X

I have the date for my c-section scheduled now for Feb 4 so starting to get excited and nervous all in one go. I’m totally immobile these days with PGP and very bad water retention in my legs and feet so spend my days really not doing much! Is anyone else due soon?
