Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

@Ladybug84 sorry for your scare, must have been nice to get to see your babies though. I'm exactly as far along as you - 10+2 today. Also have our dating scan on Xmas Eve - will you be telling people at Xmas if you haven't already? I'm not sure whether we should wait for the results of the screening tests - what did most people do?

Robs20 · 12/12/2019 09:27

@Blueraincoat89 you might get your screening results on the same day (I did). Mine came back high risk for twin 1 so I waited until after the nipt and cardiac scan to tell people. I would probably tell people at xmas but that’s just me! Any other time I would say wait. I’m 17+6 and only told my parents on Monday.

BlueRaincoat89 · 12/12/2019 11:20

@Robs20 I didn't realise they could tell you the same day - was that just based on the neck measurements that they do? Did everything turn out ok at those scans then?

Robs20 · 12/12/2019 11:29

@blueraincoat89 it was the scan/ bloods (which were done just before the scan) and age. Think it depends which hosp you are at. Twin 1 was high risk for downs (high NT fluid, bloods were fine and I’m 30 so that shouldn’t have skewed the result). Nipt, cardiac and detailed anatomy scan later, both twins look ok.

JennyI89 · 12/12/2019 12:05

Hi all, I'm 22 weeks today with DA/DC twins, technically due in April but they should be here some time in March 😊

Court1994 · 12/12/2019 16:11

I’m 16 weeks and 3 days pregnant with twins, I’m due May 25th. This is my second pregnancy and it is so different to my first. I have a 5 1/2 month old daughter and when the twins are born, I am going to have 3 kids under 1. I also have a 9 year old stepson. I am really struggling with HG.

MrsEG · 13/12/2019 10:11

@Jahzmine Could you chat to your consultant and ask about your treatment pathway at all? I know every trust is different and I’m sure if they had any concerns they’d be letting you know!

@Jaxx14 I took the folic aside and vit D up to 20 weeks and was then told just the Vit D is important - no harm at all in continuing to take pregnancy vitamins though!

@Baileya Congratulations! These twins will be my first children so I can’t offer any advice. Do you have a lot of support nearby?

@SleepingStandingUp Ah best of luck today!!

@Ladybug84 That must have been a scare but pleased to hear the twins are doing okay!

@BlueRaincoat89 I told family only at about 8 weeks, I was just so anxious. Told everyone else at 14 weeks after the 12 week scan and screening results all came back! My results took about a week, came as a letter through the post.

@JennyI89 Congratulations! Do you know the sex yet?

@Court1994 Congrats! Wow 3 under 1, incredible - do you have a lot of support locally? Have you seen a midwife or GP about the HG as there is medication that can help you?

30 weeks now and struggling a lot. I can’t sleep anymore as my PGP is so bad. As much as I really want them to cook away a while longer yet, I’m getting to the stage where I just want them here now!!

JennyI89 · 13/12/2019 10:37

@MrsEG we're not finding out Smile I have three older children and we have kept it a surprise every time. Counting down the weeks now we are over half way!

MrsEG · 13/12/2019 10:43

@JennyI89 Wow so 3 to 5!! Amazing! The prospect of even having two is scaring me haha! If we were expecting one we’d always said it would be a surprise but as soon as it was twins we just had to know. We’d have figured it out anyway I think - on two scans now, the Doppler has gone on butt first and let’s say these little guys are not shy haha!!

twinmum2017 · 13/12/2019 10:54

@SleepingStandingUp best of luck for today! Xx

Baileya · 13/12/2019 12:14

@court1994 I'm in a similar position as will have 4 under 3 😬 scary to think about.

JennyI89 · 13/12/2019 12:33

@MrsEG luckily my three are a little bit older, 10, 9 and 6, although my girls will be 11 and 10 by the time the twins are here, so they are a bit more independent. I'm hoping in my growth scans they manage to not show me, I might ask them to turn the screen until they know they aren't near that end of the babies!

In other new, won a Christmas hamper in the school raffle today so made up with that Grin

Congratulations @SleepingStandingUp

Just beautiful.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/12/2019 14:33

We're OK but I'd forgot about post delivery uterine contractions. Keep on your pain relief ladies once those babies are out!!

Passionfruit20 · 16/12/2019 18:30

So this week I saw our consultant for the first time, and when doing our scan she said one baby had 2L of amniotic fluid and the other over 5. She said both are still within normal range but this can be the first sign of TTTS. I’m pretty much freaking out, has anyone else with MCDA twins had this experience, and was it okay?

OP posts:
twinmum2017 · 16/12/2019 19:38

Not me obviously @Passionfruit20 , but over on the TTTS Facebook page here are always people commenting who have had big fluid differences but that have never progressed to TTTS.
When are you next being scanned?

Chaosonthehorizon · 16/12/2019 20:03

I have a scan tmw (one day off 16 wks) so will let you know. Is there a uk ttts page, the American stuff seems rather different

twinmum2017 · 16/12/2019 20:28

It's called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome - uk parents

It does have some awful stories though (and some good ones too), so I would advise not reading too much and just starting your own comment if you decide to join

Chaosonthehorizon · 16/12/2019 21:25

Ok thanks, the group I am on is MoDi. I think I may bro join the other one unless I think I need some other people’s experiences with TTTS. Don’t want to get freaked out for nothing. Thanks for the heads up

Passionfruit20 · 17/12/2019 14:20

Thanks @twinmum2017 - that’s nice to know! Next scan on Thursday.

I’ll check out that group, although yes, terrifying reading some of the bad experiences.

MrsEG · 17/12/2019 16:49

Congratulations @SleepingStandingUp they are beautiful! How are you doing?

@JennyI89 Ah how lovely the girls are older - extra pairs of hands with the twins I’m sure will come in very handy!!

@Passionfruit20 So sorry to read you had a bit of a scare but as they have said it’s in the normal range, hopefully they’ll reassure you again on Thursday :)

I finally go on maternity leave tomorrow and it can’t come soon enough, and I’m only 31 weeks! PGP is crippling. How does/did everyone else manage to sleep?! I wake up in agony every few hours.
Also - getting my hospital bag sorted; any items handy to have for twins that may not pop up on usual checklists??

twinmum2017 · 17/12/2019 19:36

@Passionfruit20 great, are they scanning you weekly at the moment then to keep an eye on it? Try not to worry, I'm sure it'll be fine, but any sudden growth or sudden firmness in your bump then get yourself checked straight away.

@MrsEG I was lucky enough not to suffer PGP but I've heard it's agony. Pregnancy pillows and kicking your partner out in to the other room seem to be the main tips I've read. Mine went straight to NICU so I didn't need anything for them specifically, but if you're planning to breastfeed then a good feeding pillow is top of most peoples list as far as I know

SleepingStandingUp · 17/12/2019 21:10

Thanks we're doing OK but hard not to feel like I'm failing someone when they're two of them screaming for attention.

Just plenty of clothes would be my advice esp if they're close to term so you're expecting to keep them with you. I have quite leaky babies, getting through tons of clothes but at least I'm not reliant on the next machine full iyswim
