Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

@BlueRaincoat89 Congratulations! I took a slightly higher dose (500 rather than 400) that the GP prescribed - maybe call in to your doctor for it, or ask the midwife? I don’t have any other children so can’t help with the toddler!! How lovely two new siblings for her :)

Jaxx14 · 27/11/2019 13:18

Hi ladies, firstly I apologise for the detailed post and tmi but I’m scared...
Currently 10 weeks and just went to the toilet (no2) when I wiped the back end it was bright red blood...my heart sank but then when I wiped front it showed a milky discharge (apologies). Should I be worried or have I just had a little tear from BM or something? Sorry again...any help appreciated to put my mind at rest x

SleepingStandingUp · 27/11/2019 17:19

@BlueRaincoat89 congratualtions. Def speak to midwife or doc Re folic acid etc. What sort of twins are you having? My son will be 4 so I understand. Depending on how you end up having them, you might only be in for 2 nights which sounds tons but actually isn't that bad. Now is a good time of you always do bed routine etc to share the fun with Daddy!!

@Jaxx14 sounds like it's from your bum not your vagina, so I couldn't worry, but keep na eye on it. Any abdo pain? Check when you wipe after a wee etc

LazyDogFox · 28/11/2019 06:48

Hi ladies hope it’s ok to jump on! I found out on Tuesday that I’m expecting twins but I’m only 7+3. I think I’m still in shock as everything I say it or write it I just laugh! I had my booking appointment before my private scan but the midwife I saw was leaving so I don’t have a named midwife or a contact number. I was wondering if I needed to tell them that I now know it’s twins? Or wait for my 12 week scan in 30th December?

BlueRaincoat89 · 28/11/2019 09:52

@MrsEG Thanks, I'll try and contact my Dr today - not had my booking in appointment yet so not sure how to contact the midwife.

@SleepingStandingUp We're having non-identical. Different sacs and I think different placentas - they never said this and I didn't know anything about twins so didn't know to ask! They look attached to different places on the scan though. How about you? I think I read the worst about how long you could be in for and think that'll be me, such a pessimist! Have you told your son?

@LazyDogFox Congratulations! I'm 8+4 so still early too...still shocked too! I've not had my booking in appointment yet so was going to let them know then. Probably no harm in contacting your midwife or the hospital as I think the scans may take longer with twins.

Jahzmine · 28/11/2019 12:30

Hiya sorry to jump in the thread. I'm expecting twin boys in February 2020. I see you're talking about buggy and I thought I might mention a buggy my got sister has got (she's had 2 sets of twins) shes got the mountain buggy duet v3 and it's also what I've Brought ready for my twins. It's an amazing buggy, super slim, super light and yoy can attach car seats to it. I hope it helped.

Also anyone expecting twins around the same time, feel free to message me I need some twin mum friends! Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 28/11/2019 13:02

@LazyDogFox yeah I'd mention it as they may want to book a longer scan appt and book you in to see consultant afterwards

@BlueRaincoat89 yeah if tbryre none identical they won't share a sac or placenta. We told ds fro nearly in so we could talk openly but I think he's only just starting to get it. Also helps explain why I'm the size of a house, can't run and why he has to be careful of bump etc.

@Jahzmine my boys are due Jan 9th but coming Dec 13th x

Jahzmine · 28/11/2019 18:58

Oh wow not long left for you then. How do you feel? Would love to know how your pregnancy has been. I think I'm not far behind you then mine are due 21st February.

Passionfruit20 · 29/11/2019 07:31

@Jahzmine is February your 40 week due date or the more realistic adjustment? Technically I’m due 23 April, but I’m expecting to be March based on what I’ve been told so far (mine are MCDA). I have my twenty week with the consultant next week so should find out more!

OP posts:
MrsEG · 29/11/2019 08:42

@Jaxx14 Hope all is okay now and the bleeding stopped!

@LazyDogFox Congrats! You don’t necessarily need to tell them, loads of people don’t find out it’s twins until their 12-week scan. If you have a contact number on your notes though it can’t hurt, especially as you’ll be on a different pathway (my twins are DCDA so I see the twin consultant every month)

@Jahzmine Congrats! We considered that pram but have gone for the Out n About Nipper double instead :) My due date is 23 Feb, but will have them around 1 Feb! Two boys, too!

@Passionfruit20 Enjoy your 20-week scan next week! Be prepared for it to take yonks, mine took over 45 mins!! So detailed though it’s amazing to see!

SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2019 09:21

@Jahzmine pretty easy really. Awkward babies so scans take forever, a panic early on over whether the membrane was in place (MCDA twins) but they're good growers (5lb each roughly at 33 weeks), one lot of reduced movements due to anterior placenta and T2 trying out Breech for 4 days and that's it. Obviously the usual pain and discomfort but I'm heavily pregnant with twins.... and massive fatigue etc but again to be expected.

Ds1 came at 35 weeks unexpectedly and was a very poorly baby for the first 18 months so my mind can't overly grasp getting TWO to 36 weeks and them growing all the bits they need (DS was missing a diaphragm which is what caused all the issues) so I think there's a level of denial until I have both babies in my arms

Are your boys MCDA or DCDA?

Jahzmine · 29/11/2019 11:03

@Passionfruit20 yes the 21st is my 40 week due date so they will of course come early but I haven't been giving any type indication to how early and when. I have a scan today which I look forward too. Ooo your 20 week scan that means you get the find out the genders right? So exciting!!

@MrsEG woow that's quite amazing at how close our pregnancies are you're literally 3 days ahead of me, my twins are DCDA too so scans every month, one today which I'm excited about. When did they tell you roughly when you'll have them. I haven't even been spoke to about this.

@SleepingStandingUp oh wow that must Have been hard. But it is what makes us stronger going through these things. I really hope everything goes nice and smoothly for you with the twins. Mine are DCDA so less complications but they're doing well. Lots Nd lots of movement everyday but im also suffering with SPD which is frustrating and painful.

MrsEG · 29/11/2019 11:23

@Jahzmine Do you see a twin consultant? She’s the one who has gone through the DCDA treatment pathway with me. She said with DCDA most women have them at 37 weeks if they don’t come earlier than that of their own accord; delivery depends on the twins position as you get nearer the time etc. I’ve been told I’ll be offered an induction or c-section at 37 weeks.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 29/11/2019 12:56

Wow, catching up with this thread - so many twins coming in 2020, and triplets too!! @Beefheart I've a feeling we are going to end up in awe of you.

Welcome to the new joiners

@Jahzmine We've gone for the Mountain Buggy as well - it's sitting in the hallway waiting for me and DH to psych ourselves up to assemble it 😂 The car seats are coming on Sunday hopefully (thank goodness for all the sales) so we'll need to check the adapters.

I think I'm delivering mid-way between you and @SleepingStandingUp, my c-section is booked for 7 Jan.

@BlueRaincoat89 I've got a toddler too; he's a bit older at 2.5 so he's got some comprehension of what's going on. We were reading a book with a hospital scene and I said 'mummy's going to hospital soon, do you know why' and he replied that they had to take the babies out of my tummy! I'm worried that he will be jealous when they're actually here - but on the other hand I'll be off work so he'll actually have more time with me... fingers crossed.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2019 13:21

@Jahzmine the gestation they'll come at varies with hospitals too, ours likes D DA's to get to 38 but depends on delivery options and baby position.

In my hospital twin groups it's 9 boys to 3 girls so be interesting to see how the gender balance comes out here!!

Passionfruit20 · 29/11/2019 17:49

@MrsEG I am SO used to long scans now! Being MCDA I have them every two weeks and they take between 45 and an hour! Plus I’ve had some other kind of appointment most weeks in between. Feel like I live in the hospital!

@Jahzmine I’ve actually known the gender for ages! I’m having identical twin girls. They told me at 12 weeks they thought they were girls but couldn’t confirm. At 16 they confirmed and at 18 they confirmed again 😂 I know some people prefer to wait (which is totally cool!) but I really enjoy knowing as we’ve been able to almost decide on names!

Interesting reading about everyone’s pram choices. At the moment we are on the fence about a side by side or a tandem. We live in central London so a side by side might be hard to get around, but I don’t really like the idea of having one baby way down ‘on the bottom’ in a tandem! Such a dilemma!!

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2019 18:57

I feel you Passion, I hate the up and down prams. Oh hello baby of the light, the one we ordered. Oh look, baby of darkness, our BOGOF baby!!

We've avoided side by side as I bus a lot, so got a Graco one www.argos.co.uk/product/8792750?istCompanyId=a74d8886-5df9-4baa-b776-166b3bf9111c&istFeedId=30f62ea9-9626-4cac-97c8-9ff3921f8558&istItemId=ixwlirttr&istBid=t&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59156|acid:444-797-0832|cid:596683589|agid:77247539890|tid:pla-834328556799|crid:394485151188|nw:g|rnd:16888449119723809007|dvc:m|adp:1o1|mt:|loc:9045480&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoIPvBRDgARIsAHsCw09EGyoeWYCo2YmBRdmPbP9OfCjfbhI6iyEBkQh-g-fIpki-5-enAi4aAqHUEALw_wcB so at least I can see them both.

Very jealous you het to pick girls names, soooo much easier and we'd agreed by about 16 weeks. Alas two boys and no names settled at 34 weeks!!

Jahzmine · 29/11/2019 20:43

@MrsEG yeh I see my consultant every month but they haven't given me much information at all, I'm not sure if that's because they're waiting for the time to get closer but I'd rather be prepared , specifically with twins. Well thank you for that information atleast I got it now, I hope to ticr birth naturally but of course it'll all depend on the positioning and currently they both breech.

@lifesnotaspectatorsport the mountain buggy is amazing isn't it. So slim. I've fixed mine up and put it back in the box to be sure all the parts were there. It was quite easy to fix together to be honest, not alot of pieces, mainly just the wheels. Are you getting carrycots??

@SleepingStandingUp I'm hoping to get as far as I can safely but right now I'm feeling like I'm going to pop and I'm only 28 weeks today, its probably because with my first I wasn't big at all.

@Passionfruit20 that's quite handy I would have found out the gender as soon as I can so I could start preparing. Also the mountain buggy duet v3 is a very slim buggy, it gets through all doorways with ease I highly recommend.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2019 20:53

@Jahzmine you'll be amazed how far you can stretch, 57 inches and counting!

Jahzmine · 29/11/2019 21:10

@sleepingstandingup wow you must be uncomfortable. I'm only 40 inches. I best start getting used to it then! It's just the uncomfortability of feeling like my skin is really tight if you get what I mean

SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2019 21:25

Definately. Bump cream helped a little with that, and def went through a period of the muscles above my belly button really hurting, now it's mainly the pain between my legs and kinda front low and central stomach where the heads are

Jahzmine · 30/11/2019 22:45

@SleepingStandingUp oooh let's hope those pains end for you soon. I'm going to definitely have the try bump cream thank you! Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 30/11/2019 23:21

One has moved slightly so def less pain that it was, I think his heads actually moved down which has eased it

Ummusomebody · 01/12/2019 14:13

Hi all. Can I join this thread please. Just found out we're expecting babies 3 and 4 last week. Only 6 weeks and so worried. Also been very sick with HG - hence the scan. For me, it was almost a when rather than if as my grandma had 3 sets of twins so did her sister. I have a training program that ends in 3 weeks which is my milestone to finish as time off suck may mean extension which I'd hate. With 2 toddlers, I feel like each day is just a hassle. Was so tired as soon as I found out I was pregnant but not able to way much and everything else is just getting on top of me. Feel like I'm moaning but also a bit excited

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2019 14:44

Congrats and welcome! What sort of twisn are they?
Can't offer much home by way of tiredness lessening, especially with kids at home too. How odl are your toddlers?
