Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

Ah yes that would have been mine, glad you saw it.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 15/11/2019 17:13

@Chaosonthehorizon Congratulations! Welcome to twin club 👶🏻👶🏻

Has anyone started looking at double buggies yet? I was sold on a BabyJogger City Mini but now I've seen some great reviews of the Out n About Nipper. Also latter is suitable up to 22kg and I have big babies (son is 18kg at 2.5yo). I'm abroad so I can't try any of them out annoyingly, can only order online.

Chaosonthehorizon · 15/11/2019 18:07

Thank you! We have a donkey because we had a two year gap and it has been brilliant! Although not sure for twins as you wouldn’t necessarily use it much in single mode??

twinmum2017 · 15/11/2019 18:26

@lifesnotaspectatorsport we have an out n about now and I absolutely love it.

But consider that you can not attached car seats to the double if that is something you would want to be able to do. I couldn't have lived without being able to pop the car seats on and off, but it depends how much you drive I guess.

We had an uppababy vista for the first year which I loved, the basket is huge which means you can avoid a trolley in the supermarket!

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 16/11/2019 04:39

@twinmum2017 I'm so glad you said that about the car seats!! I'd seen there were adapters but now I look at the specs, they're for the single Nippers only Shock

We drive A LOT. But I'm wondering if it's more of a pain to take each baby out of a car seat and pop in the buggy, leaving the car seat in situ, or take the car seats in and out and click on each time. Babies get heavy fast and one will be in the middle seat too as I already have a DS. Aaargh! Any advice?

MrsEG · 16/11/2019 06:48

@twinmum2017 @lifesnotaspectatorsport We’ve gone for the out n about double; twins due late Jan. it was the most recommended at the TAMBA workshop I went on - the only advice they gave was to invest in the puncture kit for the tyres too! I’ve got it assembled at home with the carrycots in it. It manoeuvres like a dream (well, around the house so far!!! It was hard decided against one I can pop the car seats on but as you say, you’d be faffing just as much getting two heavy car seats out as you would just lifting baby out and in to the pram. That was our rationale anyway!

twinmum2017 · 16/11/2019 07:00

@lifesnotaspectatorsport I managed the car seats for over a year, although they were on either side so a bit easier. Can your toddler not go in the middle? I liked the option to pop the car seats on the pushchair in case they were asleep, but also found it to be quicker than removing each baby, strapping in to pushchair, wrapping in blankets etc.

Obviously you wouldn't want to leave baby in a car seat for ages, but a lot of my trips out were to baby groups so just a 5/10 minute walk, or a quick trip to the shops.

It's personal preference I guess.

@MrsEG it is fabulous to push, and great for off reading. We've never actually had a puncture, but do carry a pump and repair kit... although at almost 3 we rarely use it now! Get a 'mummy clip' for the handle bar as the basket is a bit rubbish. They pockets on the back of the seat are pretty big though for nappies/wipes etc.

MrsEG · 16/11/2019 07:06

@twinmum2017 That’s fab to hear you’ve not had to use it!! Fab, yeah we have a Husky so often spend the weekends out walking trails etc so the wheels just looked perfect for that. Will look in to a mummy clip!! Luckily most of the baby groups I’ve got my eye on, bar one, are within walking distance - the only one I’d need to drive them to is a baby splash at the pool. So would need them awake for that haha!! I’m sure there’ll be days I totally regret not being able to clip the car seats on but I also didn’t want to have to worry about replacing the pram after a year, if that makes sense - so fingers crossed these little ones play ball!! Thanks so much for the advice :)

twinmum2017 · 16/11/2019 07:39

Yes totally makes sense. Our travel system got quite heavy by the time we switched to our n about. Although I did sell it for the cost of the out n about so didn't lose out too much!
For dog walking have you thought about a sling? We have a twingo which we more separately when my husband was there too

Chaosonthehorizon · 16/11/2019 07:43

Had assumed that one baby would spend most of its first months in a sling whilst I carried on with the other two. Like many other things this plan now feels a bit tattered. Are you allowed to carry two at once in a sling after a c section. This will be my 3rd section and am as determined as I was before to follow the rules and hopefully therefore recover as soon as possible. Thanks

MrsEG · 16/11/2019 07:45

@twinmum2017 I got a second hand Weego twin carrier, so hoping to use that! Apparently it’s only really good up to about 7 months but after that we may get a few slings/second hand carriers and me and DH will carry one each when they’re heavier!

Beefheart · 16/11/2019 07:51

Currently 26 weeks with triplets 😬 two are identical (one placenta two sacs) and the other is separate sac/placenta. Bit of a shock to find out at 12 week scan!

twinmum2017 · 16/11/2019 08:32

@Chaosonthehorizon I'm
Not sure, mine were in nicu for the first 3 weeks and then were only 4lbish when they came home so too small for the sling. I guess it depends on their weights?

@MrsEG I had a weego briefly but only used it a handful of times. People rave about them so I think they are fab, I just never really got the hang of it as used the pushchair or separate carriers most of the time.

Gosh @Beefheart what a surprise! Do you know their sexes? Well done so far, when is planned delivery?

SleepingStandingUp · 16/11/2019 10:50

@Beefheart wow, congratulations. How are you alll coping?

Squiff70 · 16/11/2019 10:58

Hi everyone,

@Beefheart Wow, triplets! That's amazing. Hope you're as well as you can be!

Chaosonthehorizon · 17/11/2019 17:21

Beefheart wow a bigger shock than mine then! Do you have any other children? twinmum2017 separate carriers both on you (back and front when old enough) or one each? X

twinmum2017 · 17/11/2019 19:34

@Chaosonthehorizon we had two separate carriers (I used a stretchy for one twin and my husband preferred a structured carrier), but then bought a twingo when they got a bit bigger. The twingo can be used as two separate carriers (1 twin each) or can connect at the shoulder for one person to wear both, one front and one back.

Passionfruit20 · 26/11/2019 00:25

Any one else having/had bad lower back pain? I’m 18+4 and it’s pretty much constant. I told my midwife and she sent me to the hospital to get checked, but they said I was fine/babies were fine and that was it. I don’t know what to do to relieve it at all!

MrsEG · 26/11/2019 07:19

@Passionfruit20 I’ve had PGP since about week 19; got progressively worse and finally got a physio referral at 25 weeks. Try and get your midwife to refer you! Mine hasn’t cured anything but is making a huge difference.

Passionfruit20 · 26/11/2019 08:40

Thanks @MrsEG - will do!

twinmum2017 · 26/11/2019 11:42

@Passionfruit20 do you have a bump support belt? It was a game changer for me. Mine was fairly cheap from amazon but there are loads of different ones around.

Passionfruit20 · 26/11/2019 17:16

I don’t @twinmum2017 - but I will go look on amazon now! I thought the physio gave them to you, didn’t realise you could just go buy one! 😂

OP posts:
twinmum2017 · 26/11/2019 20:06

I never even saw a physio! No one mentioned a referral and I wasn't aware it was something I could have!

MrsEG · 26/11/2019 20:52

@Passionfruit20 My physio didn’t give me a belt but did tell me the ones to buy; I got mine on Amazon - it’s a godsend when I need to be on my feet but I find it a bit uncomfortable when I’m sitting!

BlueRaincoat89 · 27/11/2019 12:46

So glad I've found this thread - found out on Sunday that we're expecting twins (8 weeks). The shock is slowly wearing off! We have a DD who will turn 2 around the time that the babies are due. The thought of being in hospital away from her makes me cry my eyes out - I'm putting this down to hormones! Does anyone else have a toddler as well? Also, does anyone know if you should take more folic acid for twins?
