Congratulations to all the new mummys! Loving hearing your stories and seeing how you're all getting on.

37+4 now. Came back from our little holiday down south a day early as I woke up yesterday morning with mild contractions... TBH we were in a really lovely air bnb on paper, but it had a super creepy feel about it and there were locked rooms there that were freaking us out. We were pretty pleased to have one less night there.

Had on off contractions all day but nothing progressed and not felt anything today other than baby kicks. This could go on for weeks! It galvanised us to actually finish packing the hospital bag though so at least that's done. Had a proper giggle digging out the lists we'd made for the hospital bag for DC1 - 2 types of nuts etc. I laughed so hard I ended up sobbing! This time it's a LOT more realistic!

Lavellan · 03/09/2019 09:13

Going in to hospital for an assessment shortly.

Stroan · 03/09/2019 09:27

These babies are all being far too dramatic with their arrivals.

@bbell2 it's good they have spotted it, what's the next step?. @lavellan and @IVEgottheDECAF fingers crossed you both progress today.

@dyra how are you doing?

@kyles101 woohoo for popping waters! Sorry it's been such a marathon but hopefully a slow induction means your body is being eased into it labour gently!

Almost certain we have another reflux baby. Happy puker all day but he's struggling with being on his back all night. It's been an endless cycle of feed, settle, put down and immediate screaming all night long. I think I've had about 7 minutes sleep.

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/09/2019 09:48

Im really really fucking irritable. Like, i may murder someone....

Megan2018 · 03/09/2019 09:52

Just been to MW (38+5) and all fine. We are engaged so its weird I am still so comfortable!
They don’t want to see me again though so now just in limbo until induction next Thurs. Eeek!

MW reconfirmed that they will use the catheter method as default now. So we’ll see!

iano · 03/09/2019 10:03

@Horehound just to reassure you most antibiotics are fine for BF babies. I was on three different intravenous antibiotics 3 times a day and was still allowed to BF. DS seems to have turned out totally fine despite my worries at the time.
I think there's a page where you can look up if the antibiotics are suitable... I'll see if I can find it.

DustyDoorframes · 03/09/2019 10:25

Oh @BBell2 I can imagine your head must be spinning with so little sleep and trying to take in quite unexpected technical stuff! Can a friend swoop in to help you keep it straight? V hard to remember details alone and knackered.
Waves @Stroan (argh reflux!!!!)
Oooh @SJP3 hopefully soon then!
@Dyra Hope all ok - are you expecting to be induced tomorrow?

I'm off to the diabetes clinic with my growth scan results. I'm under several different clinics so not sure who pulls the info together to assess it???

Too scared to at decaf! BrewThanksCake instead

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/09/2019 10:27

My dc1 just made me a Brew cheered me up a little

BBell2 · 03/09/2019 10:59

@IVEgottheDECAF I recon you might get away with murder today, extrenuating circumstances!

@stroan waiting to hear if my ECV can be pulled forward to this week and induction started once it's done. Luckily, so far still ok to still have the ECV, just waiting to be sure.

Horehound · 03/09/2019 11:05

@iano thanks. I know the midwife spoke to the Dr to make sure they are safe and I also googled and see it's a common one for people with mastitis. Midwife said it dies transfer to baby and he may be a bit grizzly. But jeez he just doesn't want the milk but it desperate for it. Managed to get him to feed just there and a little bit earlier but I'm worried it's not enough! However, still getting wet and dirty nappies so will just continue as I am.

My husband is annoying me today. He has had 2 full nights sleep and yesterday didn't do much baby related stuff. Today I'm gona make him do the bull of nappy changes since when I was expressing he could help with bottle feeding but now it's just breast that's one less thing for him to do. I'm having to ask him to do stuff and I hate that...just use your initiative for goodness sake!

DustyDoorframes · 03/09/2019 11:15

@Horehound you doing goods inwards, DP can do goods outwards!

Horehound · 03/09/2019 11:22

@DustyDoorframes sorry I seem to have missed some posts. Thanks for the I go. Its Dalacin C I've been prescribed which is aka Clindamycin which I don't see on that list! But Google does say it's safe although may interrupt baby's tummy flora.
Maybe he will just be a puked but just seemed strangely coincidental that I started antibiotics the day before and he now start a puking. But also it's doesn't seem to bother him at all. He just pukes then wants fed haha

@stroan how are you feeling with reflux? I wondered if this is what he has and I thought you raise one side one cot to tilt at an angle but NHS says not to do this Confused

@megan2018 next Thurs will be here before you know it!! How is your horse now?

DustyDoorframes · 03/09/2019 11:29

@Horehound you are postpartum so it would be utterly bizarre if you'd been prescribed something problematic! But yeah I see what you mean re the timing (although things change day by day so much at this stage anyway, it could still be a coincidence). Re the tummy flora- if you try and keep a good probiotic diet your milk will sort out the baby's flora too- it's probiotic too! So lots of different veg, fruit and pulses, live yogurt, fermented foods (like kimchi type stuff) are ideal. But you also need to live in the world and enjoy your dinner so don't get obsessed!

Megan2018 · 03/09/2019 11:38

@Horehound you are doing brilliantly! Keep going, you’ve got this!

Horse healing thanks, but still on stable rest, we are both fed up with it but its keeping me fit at least! MW shocked I’m still mucking out etc but I feel fine. Just want her fixed before I go to hospital though. I am anxious enough!

Dyra · 03/09/2019 11:41

I'm fine Ty @stroan. Getting nervous about tomorrow. Not scared as such, more it's the unknown side of it. How much pain, how long will it take, will I cope etc. etc.

Going to be weird knowing my name is going to be written up on the delivery suite board tomorrow and how excited my colleagues are going to be to see it there.

kyles101 · 03/09/2019 12:52

If anyone tells you they've had a hormonal induction without pain relief they are a double hard bastard and need your upmost respect. I on the other hand am not a double hard bastard and now have an epidural in. Siobhan is a lying witch - they are not tightening that happen in your uterus it's like being stabbed in your spine with a serrated knife. Repeatedly.

Ha, they did say that every labour is different though so hopefully anyone else having a hormone induction will be fine. I'm clearly a wimp!!

Stroan · 03/09/2019 13:04

@horehound DD had it so I'm not massively surprised, she didn't gain weight well because she puked up every feed. It's not as bad this time (yet!). I'm going to wedge the crib mattress up slightly, the guidance says not to but he is so distressed lying on his back and gagging. The risk is tiny and I sleep with my hand on him anyway.

OP posts:
Horehound · 03/09/2019 13:29

@Dyra when you're actually doing it you will know what your body wants/needs. It won't matter about the time length because you just deal with the here and now as you experience it. Don't worry! It will be ok x

@megan2018 yeh I bet you just want her to have a full recovery asap, poor thing. And yes, kudos to you for still mucking out!

@kyles101 glad you have the epidural now. If i go on to have any more kids I'm just gona jump straight to epidural. Hope all goes well for you :)

@Stroan oh Sonos there a risk to having them tilted? I'm surprised because in hospital the cot things tilted and the midwife actually did tilt him. So it's a bit of crossed advice both by NHS!

DustyDoorframes · 03/09/2019 13:50

@kyles101 you are not a wimp! You are hardcore doing some brilliant labouring!!!
And I say that as someone who didn't need pain relief on the drip, mine wasn't that sore. YOU are the tough as nails lady taking that pain and zapping it back where it belongs! Go you!!!!

Moraxella · 03/09/2019 14:05

@kyles101 LOL I’ve got to the part when siobhan says “labour shouldn’t be painful”. Yeh right!

I’ve been 3/5 engaged for last few weeks but today it hurts my cervix to sit down. It’s agony and feels like I haven’t 💩 for a month (I def have, I’ve been eating 8 dates a day!)

Stroan · 03/09/2019 14:24

@horehound the Lullaby Trust recommend nothing but a flat, firm sleeping surface. And whilst I totally respect their stance on things like cot bumpers, I feel I have to take a calculated risk on tilting the crib slightly. And the risk of me falling asleep while trying to keep a very upset baby upright is much greater.

OP posts:
RonaldWeasley · 03/09/2019 14:24

@kyles101 you made me proper lol in your last post - keeping it real! Have enjoyed the hypnobirthing stuff generally but the 'labour isn't painful' stuff had me rolling my eyes. Also lolled my way through a podcast about an 'orgasmic birth' yesterday, I'm sure that's entirely attainable for most people 😂😂.

Sounds like you are being a double hard bastard for advocating for yourself and taking what you need to get through it. From the bajillion birth stories I've read/listened to the only thing that seems at all clear is that everyone experiences giving birth completely differently, and we've just got to listen to our bodies and do what we need to do to get out the other side. Good luck for the rest of your induction but it sounds like you've totally got this 😘

Stroan · 03/09/2019 14:25

@kyles101 everyone feels labour pain so differently and especially during induction. Everyone who does it is hard as nails though. I didn't have an epidural etc but they did have to forcibly remove the gas and air from me. Amazing stuff!

OP posts:
IVEgottheDECAF · 03/09/2019 14:32

Who the hell is Siobhan?

Bless you kyles Flowers

As the others have said everyone experiences these things differently and every birth is different. You just have to find a way through

Puglover88 · 03/09/2019 15:00

Ah I’ve missed so much in a day! Trying to read back and catch up on people’s updates now.

@Stroan what a gorgeous pic, hope that you’re doing well!

@Horehound sorry you’re having a tough time with the bf, I can’t offer any advice from experience as I’ve not experienced bf yet but sounds like you’re being a proper trooper persevering through it all!

@IVEgottheDECAF your baby really is being a tease! Hopefully it’s not too long for you now.

@kyles101 not a wimp at all! Whatever type of labour a woman has, she’s a flipping trooper! Especially after 40 weeks of growing a baby and all the aches, pains and worries that go with that! Thinking of you 😊

@Dyra it’s so normal to be nervous but you’ll be fine! It’s just so hard to plan for the unknown isn’t it but your body will know what it needs and what it needs to do in the moment. Best wishes!
