How's this for our new thread ladies....??

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 14/08/2007 14:53

That does look small MrsB ! but then i feel HUGE! Thanks Gill, normally lucky with IL looking after ds some weekends but they have Been really busy, and to top of my day just had a phone call to go and pick up prescription from Docs as Bloods have come back showing me annemic (sp)! Hope this wont stop the Homebirth

MrsBadger · 14/08/2007 14:57

This is what puzzles me too GillL...
Actually I shall start a dedicated thread just to whine about it, that'll cheer me up...

growingbagpuss · 14/08/2007 15:29

Its a lovely petite bump Mrs Badger - I expect we are only envious... as we pull our maternity skirts back up over the bump... and "pop" its pinged back off again, as circumferance of belly is just too much.....

Small bump would do me fine - at 11 weeks the nurses at the hosp told me i had a big bump.....

Uki - I'm glad you're confiedent about my chances of going into labour today!! I have had a bit more of a show today -after several days of the usual junk coming out of me (sorry, TMI!!) - and slightly tinged pink... so maybe this is coming of its own accord rather than down to the sweep?

Pink - I so don't want a house ful of people if I get to thurs (for 2nd sweep) - so i can completely understand! Its bad enough the comments I get off DH's friends about homebirths and noise and mess, but I don't want anyone knowing the finer gory details!! A break from DS would be much better - embellish the story a little, explain to your SiL (?Sister?!) that you'll need a little "sorting yourself out" time after (for a bath or something) - LIE!! (unless she's had a sweep herself she'll never know!!)

Tell me -why is it that people think they have free reign on commenting on the homebirth choice? Things along the lines, have you warned the neighbours, and hope you cleaned the carpet after the last one..... I don't want my DH's friends envisaging me in labour - its just not right!!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 14/08/2007 16:03

i know what you mean GBP - everytime i mention to people that i am having a homebirth , there face sought of screws up and ask where in my house ! maybe we wont be getting so many visitors in my Lounge!!!
On a good Note my Nappy lady just phoned and she is coming round to drop of my nappies tomorrow!! yea

growingbagpuss · 14/08/2007 16:05

say hello to her for me!!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 14/08/2007 16:09

Will do GBP

growingbagpuss · 14/08/2007 16:46

You know parents are funny aren' they? My Mum and her "lovely labours" "oh it was easy in those days" - turns out my brother and I were both induced, first they broke her waters, and then she had a drip up -and jsut said "the monitor will tell you when you have a contraction" - which means she had an epidural... - of course her bloody labour were lying on her back and painless then!! How dare she tell me how "easy" it was? I've done the whole bloody labour thing, no pain relief -so i know what a contraction feels like - I will NOT optionally be strapped to a monitor the whole time - she seems to think that would be the ideal??!!!??!!!

Grrrrrrrr

katybird · 14/08/2007 16:46

Hi everyone, wow it's all go now! Taken me ages to catch up again, and I've forgotten everything I was going to comment on. Suffice to say congratulations to everyone with new arrivals, Annie, conker and MrsS, and sorry if I've missed anyone out. So wonderful to read your birth stories and see the pics! Hope everyone's feeling better today, at least now it's raining it's a bit cooler.

Good luck rhiannon, trina and anyone else who's in labour at the mo, hope Augustbride's induction went well and where is TT?! Bagpuss, it has to be your turn soon, got everything crossed for you!

Itchy, that's an impressive bump! Hope LO makes an appearance soon. Mine seems smaller now he's engaged too MrsB, still measuring the right height tho. that you can probably still fit your maternity trousers!

Got our cotbed up eventually at the weekend, such a struggle! V funny in hindsight but was bloody frustrating at the time, you'd think they could design flatpacks that are easy to build with bumps! Had a baby shower on Sat, had all the girls round and ate lots of cake. Feeling ready now, so no doubt it'll be another 3 weeks lol.

katybird · 14/08/2007 16:51

Cross posts bagpuss, strange how mums never remember the important details isn't it? Doesn't sound easy to me!

GillL · 14/08/2007 17:10

Got my fingers crossed for you pink. I'm sure it will be fine after a few days on the medication. Will you have to go for another blood test?

lol about your mum's labour story bagpuss. I can't think of anything worse than being hooked up to a monitor for hours stuck flat on my back. I'm looking forward to being able to roam around my house going wherever I want and being in whatever position I want. I can't wait to then be able to climb into my bed with my new baby and the rest of my family.

tokentotty · 14/08/2007 17:27

Hello, hello.....little bit as have been rumbled and indeed was to be found in my kitchen !! Definitely no baby action here. In fact I'm sure I'm still not engaged at all but that might not be a bad thing as on Friday Peanut was back to back as well so have spent all non-kitchen time trying to turn him. Feels like it's all been unsuccessful too which is . Waiting for my hippo-birthing teacher to call me back as Betty thinks she might be able to help with it all. Was SO upset on Friday about it happening as he'd been perfectly positioned for so long before. Coupled with the moving back of my due date did not make for me to be my usual jolly self.
Ah well, all the boys on DH's desk are loving me being at home with no baby yet. They even put in orders on a Monday morning as to what they'd really like for lunch etc that week.
Actually, been a bit miserable to be honest and not very chatty. Sure I'll perk up though. Still feel calm and relaxed about everything so the cloud's bound to lift soon enough.

growingbagpuss · 14/08/2007 17:37

GillL -my feelings exactly - but somehow the whole idea is something my dear mother can't quite take on board!! She just remembers no pain, and being in hosp for a week after (10days with my brother!!) and how "easy" it all was.....makes me laugh -and actually quite proud that I've done it once (albeit with blue lights after) and have every damn intention of doing it again!! .

TT - - but hang on... you cook for DH's colleagues? - you are SUCH a good wifey.. in fact did I see you on the "F Word" auditioning for Gordon Ramseys new Fanny Craddock?!!

tokentotty · 14/08/2007 17:44

Erm NO gbp !!! Think it's just that my Irish blood becomes obvious when I cook and there's usually leftovers which always get taken into the office for the boys....this then leads to 'favourites' so last night's enchiladas went in and then tonight's tandoori chicken was specifically requested after last week. Am trying a saag aloo recipe too so fingers crossed. Although have made them a dozen eccles cakes to get them through the morning
Anyone else really tired ?? Sorry to hear about the anaemia Pink, I think that's what's making me so wiped out in the mornings. My last count was 10.5 or lower so am taking about 50ml of Floradix a day !

OP posts:
growingbagpuss · 14/08/2007 17:58

Puts away recipe books.

Just like to say, this is my fav part of the day - BATHTIME for DS, then snuggles infront of "in the night garden" THEN BED!!!!! Peace and quiet!

typhoonsmum · 14/08/2007 19:33

Hello all.

Went in for induction on Friday morning. Was given first prostin at 11am and nothing happened. Had second dose at 5pm still nothing. Was to have a third dose in the morning. Was woken in the night by one of the other patients snoring. (Must have had a total of about 1hr 30 mins sleep due to her) Pains started at about 4am. Nothing very bad but they were there every ten minutes or so.
In the morning was examined and told that I didn't need the third prostin and could have my waters broken down on labour ward but they were busy and they'd ring when they were ready. In the meantime the contractions were getting more intense. At about 13.30 the midwife gave me gas and air. At 14.00 She examined me and said I was about 7 cm dilated and needed to go to labour ward. NOW! They got a wheelchair for me and took the gas and air off me while I was transferred downstairs. OMG the pain was so bad!!!!!!
James William was born at 14.50 on Saturday. He weighed 7lb 14oz.(Same weight as DD) I couldn't have any other pain relief as I was too far gone so I managed it on Gas and Air. No tears or episotomy. A couple of grazes that she stitched as they were opposite each other and would have stuck together. The whole process was 1hr and 20 mins.
Was moved back to the ward and my own private room (staff perks are great - even a newborn baby gave me more sleep than that other snoring woman.) Came home yesterday evening and spent most of today on the couch. James sleeps very well for a baby. I'm not expecting it to last tho.

paperdoll · 14/08/2007 20:14

Congratulations, typhoonsmum. Every time I check this thread, more babies have arrived!

Tokentotty, your cheerful posts last week made me feel better; I hope you feel better soon too. where did you get your sag aloo recipe? would really like to find a good one.

I'm typing while bouncing on the exercise ball (not sure if it is an actual birthing ball or not as it was passed on from a mate and she didn't say). My waters broke this morning at 5:15, so we spent a couple of hours in hosp being checked over and monitored before coming home. Have to go back first thing tomorrow, or sooner if things pick up speed ... I am having irregular contractions which I would describe as "somewhat painful", so I'm assuming they're basically nothing and will get much much worse in due course!

I don't really know what to expect, hoping there will be some swift progress tonight though. I would like to avoid the need for intervention and don't know how much pressure there will be to hurry things along artificially if I am still not in full labour by the morning. hmm, we'll see.

On the way out of the hospital we bumped into a woman from our antenatal class who was being induced, had her pessary thing yesterday and turned up again this a.m. as instructed, only to find they didn't have a bed for her, so she was sitting on a bench out by the car park! fine as long as it doesn't rain ...

Babylovesmuffins · 14/08/2007 20:25

Oh good luck Paperdoll! Are you going to Simpsons or St Johns? (I'm in Edinburgh too and going to St Johns). My SIL just had a baby boy at Simpsons in the last hour - she was 12 days overdue!!

Very excited for you. Will keep fingers crossed.

boobooma · 14/08/2007 20:38

Typhoon, congratulations, you did brilliantly.

TT, oh culinary wizard, I got told by a very matronly midwife a couple of weeks ago that floradix was a bit wussy and I needed to be taking Spatone instead, loads more iron apparently. I have been feeling a lot more lively since I switched over. It also tastes a LOT nicer.

Bagpuss, dp, ds and I have recently been converted to In the night garden and are now twice daily addicts. I catch myself humming the theme tune in the shops.

Babylovesmuffins · 14/08/2007 20:39

More congratulations to Annie, Mrs S and Rhiannon and Typhoonsmum!! Great news!!

To all of you who have mentioned snoring and drooling in the night, I'm in that club too I keep waking up to a soaking wet pillow and apparently my snoring rivals one of DH's mates who's renowned for his earth-shattering snoring

Well, I had another fun visit to the hospital today - that place is becoming my friend (no, really). It looks like the protein level in my pee has gone up, so I could be induced soon rather than letting things take their course naturally. I have now been given a supersonic, industrial-sized carton to pee in for the next 24 hours - I'm sure it must hold about 2-3 litres!!! Then I need to take it back to the hospital tomorrow for analysis - hope I don't get stopped and searched at all

The consultant was all for doing a sweep today but I asked for a few more days. I figured I'd rather come home and have 'passionate' sex with DH than have some strange man stick his hand up my fanjo and have a good feel about I really wanted things to progress naturally but I'm starting to come round to the idea that I may need to be flexible if it's best for me and LO.

Any more twinges from those who are getting really fed up? Bagpuss?? Thinking of you all too.

paperdoll · 14/08/2007 20:42

Thanks babyloves! I'll be at Simpsons. My SIL had her baby at St Johns two years ago though, and she said it was really excellent. We just stuck with Simpsons because it's nearer - and hopefully will also be just as good, assuming they have a bed for us ...

How's it going with your beta blockers/BP?

paperdoll · 14/08/2007 20:45

wow, cross-post, BLM: I don't envy you having to faff about peeing into cartons. I can barely reach around the bump to collect a basic little sample, let alone aiming successfully every time ...

tokentotty · 14/08/2007 21:27

Erm.....wasn't expecting to be posting this tonight but.....I seem to have just had a rather large 'show'. Quite surprised me I must say. Now, am I right in thinking that this doesn't mean anything spectacular's going to happen because of it and that it can still be a few days from now before anything else ??

(Mahusive congrats to Typhoonsmum - you sound just the calmest person in the world !!!)

OP posts:
Annie75 · 14/08/2007 21:44

Ooh blimey, TT! Well, I had a show and then went into labour that afternoon, although I know it isn't always the case. You said you were feeling a bit fed up earlier too? Well, I felt the same the day before I went into labour - quite down in the dumps and figured it might be a sea change in my hormones. So, keep an eye on it and tell your DH to make sure he's on the ready.. just in case!

stretchmarks · 14/08/2007 21:57

congratulations typhoonsmum sounds like you had a good induction which I am glad to hear as I am rapidly approaching mine.

Goodluck paperdoll and hope things get moving for you soon too TT.

Well I had a reflexology session tonight which even if it doesn't work was bliss and has certainly lifted my mood.

paperdoll · 14/08/2007 22:21

For what it's worth TT, I had a show about ten days ago. It was just clear though, no blood, I don't know if that means anything significant. I think a bloody one is maybe more of a big deal?

Response from those in the know seemed to be that it didn't mean much but then again, plenty of posts I've seen on other threads have said that so-and-so went into labour really soon after a show -- think it just really varies.

Whatever happens, it's nice to have some signs of stuff going on anyway!

Am wondering how I will judge when contractions are considered 'strong'. Surely very subjective? it hurts, anyway. but pain with a purpose ...

Suddenly really wishing I had one of those sickly-sweet dodgy fudge donuts from Gregg's.
