Great news re. your mum @TheCraicDealer! What a relief.

boodles101 · 30/07/2019 20:00

Great news thecraicdealer
I'm only on growth scans due to twins, they can't measure belly as those charts are just for singletons. I didn't have any growth scans with my DS.
Repeat GTT for me tomorrow. Feel like I have appointments coming out my ears.

DH put DS to bed at 7, I just went up to tell him dinner was ready and he's fallen asleep to the lullabies bless him.

RonaldWeasley · 30/07/2019 20:08

Such awesome news about your mum @TheCraicDealer 💜

I lost one of my best friends to cystic fibrosis literally two days before I found out I was pregnant, wish so much I could have shared the news with her. I understand how hard it is to balance feelings of baby excitement with worry/sadness (feeling guilty for being happy, equally guilty for being sad!), so it's really wonderful that you and your mum can now solely focus on the excitement to come ☺️

Tefiti2 · 30/07/2019 20:18

That’s absolutely lovely news @TheCraicDealer! I feel the same re growth scans - I had them last time round and I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve seen this little ones face! Although I do remember how frustrating some of the (completely wrong) measurements were.

BBell2 · 30/07/2019 20:40

@TheCraicDealer that's wonderfull about your mum, it must have felt like a seesaw of happiness about the baby and underlying fear of the unknown.

Re scans, mine are based on previous babys small size- I was told last time if we had more it would be the case - but still had to chase MW then doc for the referrals. Hospital team were straight up - yes you should be seen! It's worth an ask as to what triggers them as the measurement could be so out!

I've a question and will ask MW if I remember but it's so far between appointments- if you labour at home what pain relief can you take? Paracetamol I know, but anything else? I've tens at the ready too.

Whisky2014 · 30/07/2019 21:20

@Bbell2 you get gas and air.
I'm going for homebirth!

challengeyourreality · 30/07/2019 21:26

@TheCraicDealer that must be a great relief for you re your mum. Love the comment about the wedding guest dressed as the village people builder - must know what she was wearing now!

kyles101 · 30/07/2019 21:48

@TheCraicDealer fab news about your mum Smile growth scan for me because of the gd - it's not worth the trade off!

So, after dh being an absolute rock for ages, he's properly narked me off tonight. We were supposed to be going away for the weekend, it's our wedding anniversary and a nice chance to have one last mini trip away just the 2 of us. Anyway, talking about it today and he remembered he had a suit fitting on Saturday... so I was like, we'll find out if you can go first thing then we can still go, not a problem... then he "remembered" that he had the wedding rehearsal (he's best man) at 3pm!! Needles to say, I was really disappointed, there is no point spending all that money on a hotel as by the time we'd get there it'd be not long off bedtime and we'd be travelling home early the following afternoon. Anyway, these things do happen but he has flat out failed to give me a proper apology Hmm I've had 2, kind of, one was an "I'm sorry but I forgot" really dismissive and the other then went into "well we booked it together / you've been to a wedding before you know there's a rehearsal" as if it was my fault... er, yeah our rehearsal was the night before. When I asked you if you had any plans and you said "no" I stupidly believed you manchild. Grrrr! What a knob. All it would have taken was "I'm so sorry, I've fucked up, I promise I'll make it up to you" (and actually follow through. I know people say toddlers regress sometimes when there's a new baby around - is it possible for a manchild to regress too?

Stroan · 30/07/2019 22:03

I don't know about typical regression in men @kyles101 but I think I'd book a spa hotel and go on my own! (I'm having one of those days where I wish people would stop talking at me and craving some silence though, so it's probably just me!)

Awesome news @TheCraicDealer it must be such a relief for you and your family.

I had a growth scan at 28 weeks for previous gestational hypertension in last pregnancy and then again at 32 weeks to check placenta had moved out of the way. Nothing booked in now unless bump measurements go haywire or something else occurs.

@kyles101 how bloody annoying! Can you rearrange?

Karigan195 · 30/07/2019 22:22

Until last week I wasn’t having any more scans either just the standard 12 and 20 weeks. Now apparently they are necessary because of the GD to check baby’s growth!

Slightly stunned how big he is as last midwife appt has him on the 50th centile

Fortheloveofscience · 30/07/2019 23:05

Craic really good news, that must be a huge relief.

I’ve also measured on or slightly above the 95th percentile line at each appointment and no need for a growth scan. Assuming no other concerns I’d only get one if I have a measurement that’s way higher, or if the growth tails off. As long as I track that top percentile line apparently it’s fine and I’ll likely have a normal sized baby Smile. I was a little worried I’m growing a heffalump but kind of chilled about it now!

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 07:20

Brilliant new craic

Science 3 of my dc were born around 95th line, all between 8 and 8lb9 so definitely doesnt mean your carrying a whopper

I had so much pain on my pubic bone during the night when i woke for the loo i wonder if baby was trying to get even lower!

I really should sort my bags out, so far i have packed formula and cereal bars...

ColdCottage · 31/07/2019 14:32

So cross at midwife team and myself.

Being that it was 5 years since my last baby I forgot the jabs we were meant to have.

Just been told I should have had Hooping cough injection between 20-32 weeks. I'm 34 weeks this week.

Also meant to have flu jab - fortunately I'd already had this in October.

Grrrr

Megan2018 · 31/07/2019 14:49

So that was an interesting time at the hospital for diabetic clinic. Met the obstetric consultant for the first time - absolutely lovely man, very nice to talk to and answered all my questions. However referred me to MAU as slightly concerned about movements (I can feel her today but pattern has changed). So waiting there now.
Also had review with diabetes registrar who is very happy with my sugar despite the 13 readings over target-staying in diet control only for now. Back in 3 weeks to see obstetric and diabetes together to plan birth.
Was due a growth scan on Monday but its moved to Thurs as been invited to take part in some Fetal Medicine research, so my future scans are being done by the head honcho for fetal medicine (win!), they will be more detailed and include some blood pressure measurements. I love research being from a Uni-so happy to help.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 31/07/2019 15:25

@ColdCottage don’t beat yourself up. As far as I am aware you can have whooping cough vaccine at any point up until baby’s birth, so 34 weeks is still ok, even if prior to 32 weeks is optimal.

I didn’t have the flu vaccine this time round as was told by my midwife that local supplies had run out (they (NHS) will start gearing up again for the 2019/20 flu season in September but a bit late by that point!)

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 15:37

I didnt have the flu jab. I felt like i was dying already when they tried to give it to me so the consultant told me not to bother!

I have just written 3 lists. 1) babies hospital bag, 2) my hospital bag, 3) spare hospital bag incase something goes tits up and i have to stay in

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 31/07/2019 15:44

That is lovely news @TheCraicDealer

@ColdCottage flu jab was never mentioned to me so I've missed it too - I was told to have whooping cough by my MW but nothing said about flu at all.

TheCraicDealer · 31/07/2019 16:18

Thanks to everyone sending good vibes about DMum! Saw her last night and she's well chipper.

Re. the flu jab the way it was told to me when I got it done was that I'd just made it in the 2018/2019 flu vaccination schedule (I got mine with the WC vax at 17w) and that it wouldn't be offered as standard over the next few months. Maybe that was only because with a Sept EDD they think the risk of getting flu whilst being pregnant is quite small? Then they pick up again with the next tranche of annual vaccinations?

DSis was late with her WC vax due to the surgery ballsing up- she was about 34w when she finally got hers'. There was no issue but she still worried about it, understandably.

Lavellan · 31/07/2019 16:19

@ColdCottage I think you only get the flu jab up to the end of February anyway. I was a bit lazy and didn't bother since I only had a couple weeks to get it when they told me.

ColdCottage · 31/07/2019 17:14

Thanks all. Just quite peeved about the Whooping Cough one. Booked in for tomorrow but will read up about it. Not that I can change anything.

I couldn't get the flu jab in 2017 as it had run out so had my 2019 one in October for only £10 at local pharmacy. Still managed to have 2 colds which have lasted 3 weeks (in my 3rd week of the 2nd one now).

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 17:21

Tbh am surprised at the WC one. Its a written question in my maternity notes on every appointment i think from 16 weeks onwards. Each time i have seen mw they have checked i have had it and ticked the box!

kyles101 · 31/07/2019 17:43

Oooh that should be interesting @Megan2018 yay for the diet controlled bit too, I'm jealous of your sensible team!

ColdCottage · 31/07/2019 18:08

@IVEgottheDECAF that's interesting. It can't be on the notes here as in the notes box at the top she wrote today flu and whooping cough and just drew a little square next to them to tick off 😵

ColdCottage · 31/07/2019 18:10

"The best time to get vaccinated to protect your baby is from 16 weeks up to 32 weeks of pregnancy. This maximises the chance that your baby will be protected from birth, through the transfer of your antibodies before he or she is born.
If for any reason you miss having the vaccine, you can still have it up until you go into labour. However, this is not ideal, as your baby is less likely to get protection from you. At this stage of pregnancy, having the vaccination may not directly protect your baby, but would help protect you from whooping cough and from passing it on to your baby."

Grrrr
