I've got the bags packed! I had all the stuff ready and it helped me check through to see if there was anything else I needed.

DustyDoorframes · 18/06/2019 10:04

Most hospitals haven't much room, ours gets a bit grumpy if you have several bags, or big ones!
I've always used a small soft carry-on style wheely, with a section for me and one for the baby. Lots of snacks! You (or DP) might be moving you in a hurry from ward to labour room and vice versa so packing light is good, with spares sorted out at home or in the car. If you run out of anything crucial the hospital will find you something (pads, nappies, hospital gowns...)

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/06/2019 11:11

Yes you dont want loads of stuff to drag from room to room! I have previously only taken in my own bag tbh and babies stuff has been brought in after baby is born! You can definitely leave carseats in your car until you need to leave

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 11:49

I want to pack an overnight bag today I think, just then I have something to grab if I do need to go in. Keep having nightmares about having a prem baby - think its where I'm really suffering with BHs and have had a bloody show several times now.

I want to be fully packed by 35 weeks though this time.

Trying to think back to last time and the one thing I wished I had was ear plugs, every noise during labour was so frustrating to listen to (especially my mums bloomin phone or anyone else eating as I wasnt allowed to eat)

I think we will go weekend carrier then - this one www.birthbags.co.uk/product-page/grey-canvas-dual-zipper-overnight-shoulder-bag?gclid=Cj0KCQjwl6LoBRDqARIsABllMSawjJDj3Vt_xvs1K_zkv2Y6zXbe7x5Gw5yUU7sypRGu92k371ghJPkaAhfREALw_wcB

And then that will make it easier for me to drag up onto the bed if need be. I'll separate the snacks and my stuff in there with bags. But I will use another bag for baby's stuff.

OP posts:
Stroan · 18/06/2019 12:38

That's a great price @twittlebee I didn't realise it had ALL the stuff included.

I think mine are packed ready in the hope of an even earlier ELCS! (not that I am actively hoping for an early baby, but I wouldn't mind a 38 week section...)

Just had a frustrating consultant appointment, why does walking into the doctors office seem to render me completely mute and/or stupid? There was so much I wanted to ask (moan about) and they just looked at my diabetes testing numbers, said I was doing fine and packed me off. They only care about the GD and I feel that they aren't really considering the whole pregnancy.

boodles101 · 18/06/2019 13:11

I'll have everything sorted when we come back from holiday beginning of July. I'll be 30 weeks by then. I'm going to have to start taking things easy, I've done too much today already and now feeling it. Got to remember what a toll this is on my body. As much as I don't want to be carrying these babies for another 9 weeks, I also want to grow them as long as possible!!

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 13:15

Yet it a good price and would mean everything is pretty much packed apart from my nightie, change of clothes and something for baby to wear Stroan - could even be 37 weeks though right? That is term after all, DS was born at 37 weeks and only had a short stay in hospital.

Ah nice Decaf ! We could do with a few things actually...

Stroan my mum was the same with her cancer treatment, god love her. She took to writing things down and bringing the note with her to appointments so she didn't forget to ask or mention anything. She's hopefully out the other end of it, but we've still got a nervy few weeks ahead of us.

I'm definitely bringing earplugs and an eye mask with me. I might look like a knob but I'm a very light sleeper so it's either that or be even more exhausted if I have to stay in a ward for any length of time. Should still be able to hear a my baby cry though, I really do sleep that lightly. I will 100% take the advice re. spare stuff in the car, or at least write DH a note!

Stroan · 18/06/2019 13:51

@twittlebee yeah, 37 weeks would be fine too! I know that the longer baby can stay in the better but also have to weigh up all the other factors and right now my mental health is fairly precarious. And with GD, the placenta can deteriorate towards the end so I would probably be less anxious if I knew he was being evicted earlier.

I'm so sorry to hear that @TheCraicDealer fingers crossed for the next few weeks. I've written stuff down for the doctors before so will try that in two weeks.

I was very lucky and had a private room after DD was born but could have done with some heavy duty earplugs for the antenatal ward during induction. If it wasn't the staff chatting away at the nurses station it was the other patients (all in early pregnancy) having conversations about raves and festivals and drugs at 3am before turning the lights on and ordering tea and toast. If my induction hadn't started to work I was discharging myself and going home to sleep!

Stroan · 18/06/2019 13:56

How is everyone doing with picking names? We are fully committed so I've even had a massive sign made for above his cot! Everyone keeps telling me I'll change my mind but I won't.

Still to agree on the order of the middle names but we are set.

(Excuse all the nails and blu tack, it used to be a gallery wall but I made the mistake of telling DD she could take anything she wanted from her old nursery for her new bedroom. She wanted EVERYTHING.)

Personally I’m starting the eviction process from 36 weeks! Acupuncture, leaping on the DP and dates are all featuring in the plan in my head so far. Together with a ‘ghosts’ ploy of repeatedly saying ‘get out get out get out’. I reckon if I start at 36 something might happen at 37/38 :)

Karigan195 · 18/06/2019 14:16

Oh and I think we do have a name!

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 14:31

Yeah makes sense, get that cervix primed and ready Karigan ! Dates are meant to be a good one to try.

We've settled on Roy Stroan and know we won't change our mind. Been calling him Roy since 17 weeks when we had our sex reveal scan. Can't imagine him being called anything else now.

Stroan · 18/06/2019 14:39

@Karigan195 a woman after my own heart. I had similar tactics last time, plus walking and bouncing on a ball. Grateful for a forced eviction this time though, it was exhausting!

Lovely @twittlebee the only thing that might have changed our mind is if my best friend had a boy - her top name was Rory and I was getting a bit worried. She had a girl though!

Karigan195 · 18/06/2019 14:41

Hmmm I am getting a lot of Braxton hicks every time I do exercise. I’ll add walking and a big ball to the list 😂

TheCraicDealer · 18/06/2019 14:50

As well as the birthing ball, clary sage and all I'm planning on having a few pregnancy massages in the weeks leading up to it. Before 37 or so weeks she focuses on your back and pelvis to help any discomfort, then closer to your DD she does more around your tummy to encourage baby down. Could be a load of woo but DSis attributes the massages to going a few days early with DNephew and at the very least it's relaxing!

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 14:56

Yeah and being relaxed is meant to be the key thing to help progress labour so massages sound like a great idea!

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/06/2019 14:58

Ive gone into labour three times after an argument. I may go around picking fights from 37 week onwards

Dyra · 18/06/2019 14:59

We have a name for a girl (Alice). But a boy's name is still under argument discussion. I love Theo, but DH is adamant he does not. I'm sticking to my guns though.

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/06/2019 15:01

We have a name. I think.

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 15:15

Decaf maybe hang out on the AIBU board when you're getting close as those always have a good few heated topics on there haha

Stroan · 18/06/2019 15:20

Add colostrum harvesting to your list to get labour going!
