I did it (slightly adjusted the wording - is it OK?)!!! Now all we've got to do is a link from the old one to the new one - I'll leave that to somebody a bit more competent!

By the way, I just go laalalaalalaaa when you guys talk about epidurals/pain relief etc. I really didn't enjoy having one when I had DS but I had to as they had put me on a drip and all sorts and I had lots of complications. Ended up with even more severe migraines for years afterwards too. Didn't have one with DD1 and much preferred the whole experience. If I can get away with it this time, I'm going to try and avoid having one (obviously can't predict how things will go!). Gas & Air me up all the way!!!

Hi everyone, have caught up on some posts but not all so apologies!...

At MW appointment this week bump measured 38-39cm even though im only 35 weeks. Still sugar in urine so have to have another GTT. Great. Having it once is bad enough in my book!

Then im having another scan and maybe induced based on those findings.

However am well aware that fundal measuring isn't the most reliable so we will see...

Hope you are all well xx

SeamonstEr · 09/08/2007 17:02

good luck to you.

ccpink · 09/08/2007 17:33

hi all
not been around much. I didn't think the whole disposable knicker thing was important - now I'm guessing it is as everyone is buying them. If I do need them, whewre on earth do I get them. I bought one pack of special/birth maternity pads and thought I was prepared
Help!

MrsMar · 09/08/2007 18:19

ccpink - My sister keeps telling me I'll need tons... she's given me a couple of unopened packs she had, she reckoned she got through about 75 pads last time of varying size, and she thinks she didn't bleed much at all! eek!

PurpleLostPrincess · 09/08/2007 18:37

I'm just going to get a few more packs of dark big cheap knickers from asda this weekend. Also, I'll be buying a supply of maternity pads from somewhere - apparently asda are doing them now so I guess they'll be cheap from there? I'll only use them at first, then I'll swap to the thin winged always pads when the bleeding cuts down. Don't remember having noticably more bleeding second time around, I reckon everybody is different tbh... DO remember severe after pains with DD1 (second child) and having done some research have found out that it gets worse each time so I'll be begging my GP for some stronger painkillers in advance so I'm not stuck in agony again! (seriously thought I had another baby in there at the time and nobody had given me any prior warning either!!).

Have got about £20 left in vouchers from work so I've decided to get a new nightie for hosp with it - going into town this weekend for bits and pieces so will get them then...

Got physio and mw tomorrow so probably won't post till the evening... Hope everybody is well and hugs to you all!!!!

Been having period pains and backache for a little while. Hope this is head trying to engage and not labour

ccpink · 09/08/2007 18:43

omg mrs mar!!!!why does noone tell the gruesome stuff -I wonder I better buy more pads then - what about the pant situation?!

Chattyhan · 09/08/2007 18:44

Hi ccpink - disposable briefs are available in pharmacies (boots/superdrug) and mothercare. General advice is to buy a size bigger than normal - not the most comfy things in the world but saves on the washing! Some people prefer to buy cheap knickers and just bin them! I was changing pads every 2-3 hrs for first week so do need to stock up - my midwife said to avoid always towels if you have stitches for some reason so i've stocked up on other brands!

Chattyhan · 09/08/2007 18:47

ediemcredie - i spoke to my midwife about period type pains and she said it was the lower part of uterus stretching. I get these pains and backache very low quite often and it seems to be due to the baby being so low. HTH xx

LoopyLouLisa · 09/08/2007 19:04

Sorry hayley been out all afternoon. I had an emergency section with ds1 and saw my consultant at my 20 wk scan. i'd already made up my mind that i wanted another section as vbac was risky for me and he booked the date in the diary there and then, so i've known for a while. my friend also was given a date for section at her 20 wk scan appt. was quite surprised you hadn't been given one but as you've just said it was only decided yesterday. when do you see your consultant next?

ccpink · 09/08/2007 19:10

thanks chatty -i think. Totally freaked out now. Wasn't expecting blood after initial bit! I'll be off to chemist at weekend!

LoopyLouLisa · 09/08/2007 19:16

sorry just read the rest of the thread. I remember having loads of pads last time (think i bought about a dozen packs) then throwing loads of unopened packs out, thats mainly why i was asking. I def vote for the cheapo pants over disposables though! asda smartprice are £1 for a 3-pack, and that's cheaper than most disposables so i will throw them away after one wear. i think i said before that i'm gonna give the tena pants a go too. the first day or 2 after my last section i found it difficult to change pads especially the action of pulling down my knickers (i didn't need to wee as had catheter and couldn't crouch down enough to sit on the loo anyway), this way i just intend to rip them off and the pad area seems bigger than even the jumbo sized maternity towels, and i'm assuming they'll handle more fluid considering what they're actuall intended for.

I hadn't considered the afterpain thing as i didn't have any last time. stupid blonde question but will i still get them this time after a section?

xx

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 09/08/2007 19:48

good tip about asda - but not sure there is one near me that does clothes. hurumph.
the mat pads in mothercare had a sticker on them saying something like 24 pads needed for the first 24 hours...which i don't think is true - i'm sure i didn't need that many but i suppose everyone is different and better to have too many than not enough.

i don't recall getting a single after pain last time - so sounds like i'm in for a whole new treat this time!

oh, by the by, not being coy not giving email address but don't have a personal one at the moment (long story) can i join you when i get my act together?!

SeamonstEr · 09/08/2007 19:55

lollollollollollollollollol

Lots of blood, some small clots for WEEKS. It starts fading and getting waterier.
I've never bothered with disp. pants, have worn two winged pads at once just to stay away from toilet for a bit longer.

I have just bought 4 packs of mat. pads and will need to buy some ordinary ones as well. Sit, lie on a dark old towell as well, just in case. And some paracetamol because it does indeed get worse the more you have so I'll be in more pain AFTER I've had the baby than WHEN I'm having him[?].

LoopyLouLisa · 09/08/2007 20:23

why does mother nature have to be so cruel to us women? all we've been through already and it should end the moment we give birth but no. lol at the paracetamol tho, forget that am having as much morphine as they'll give me. that stuff was magic last time

LoopyLouLisa · 09/08/2007 20:26

oh, and can anyone tell me what's best for the painful wind after the op? honestly it felt like my scar was gonna burst back open

EdieMcredie · 09/08/2007 20:56

Still going...

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 09/08/2007 21:11

you feeling ok Edie? still got pains/cramps?

LoopyLouLisa · 09/08/2007 21:51

just checking in boefore bed to see how you're feeling edie but by the sound of it not much better. maybe its just your body telling you to slow down

PurpleLostPrincess · 09/08/2007 22:04

Edie, I had an evening of bh's last week that really freaked me out, felt just like period pains etc. Was so concerned I wrote the times down but I rested up for the evening and they soon wore off. I've been doing a bit of research and apparently it can happen if you are de-hydrated or very tired so maybe you just need to rest up and drink lots of water...

Hope you're feeling better soon! xxx

i'm off too now so hope you're feeling better Edie. i had a night of odd cramps too a couple of weeks ago - wore off but woke me up and spurred me on to get hosp bag packed!
hope you're ok. do let us know! x

Chattyhan · 10/08/2007 08:29

Morning all - edie hope you're doing better if not then ring the midwife for some advice!
Another of my friends waters went this morning! Her due date is 26th aug and she's was booked for a caesarean next friday! The thing is out of all my preg friends i'm now the last one!

Pennypops · 10/08/2007 09:19

Morning everyone,

Couldn't help laughing at pants 'n pads discussion as yesterday I procured from Primark 10 pairs of giant granny pants, 2 dark brown bath towels and a pair of admittedly quite revolting slippers all for the princely sum of £11. I don't want to take my nice stuff into hospital because I had assumed it would just get stained and wrecked. I bought some proper maternity pads from Mothercare. I figured that if I had any dignity left after childbirth I'd be doing pretty well anyway. Its like " a nappy for baby and a nappy for Mummy".

Hope you are feeling better Edie. I started to get a few really mild period type pains yesterday and could feel my bump tightening properly for the first time. It didn't really hurt so assumed it was just a little practice contraction. I was quite warm at the time so maybe it was dehydration like ECATLM says.

Anyway, I'm off swimming and to put yet more washing in ( I think I may have bought a tad too much stuff for my lo). Have a lovely day everyone. xxxx

EdieMcredie · 10/08/2007 10:16

It went on for a fair while-however they were all over the place and difficult to time. Some came every 10 mins while others were an hour apart. They were quite different to BH's, just like a wave of period pain washing over me and going into back and down legs. Not very painful but sore IYKWIM. Have mentioned them to MW who said to ring delivery suite if I think it's labour-difficult to know if it's your first! Obviously it wasn't, however I did get an odd sensation down below, like I was opening up (TMI). In the end I took some paracetamol and went to bed as was fed up wondering. This morning I feel normal again but will telephone MW if they come back-I think it's the not knowing more than anything but looking on here it can be fairly normal to get pains like this for quite some time before the real thing...

hayley2u · 10/08/2007 10:45

hi lou. i go see my consultant again in 3 weeks i'll be 37 1/2 weeks by then. bit worrying that they wonttell me till then. why exactly is it too early i am 35 weeks now. do most woman have the c sections at 39 weeks. i have to goon monday for a gluclose tolerance test. do you think i should mention it to someone then, or just leave it for 3 weeks. just seems an awful long time. especially as it may be a week or two after my next appointment. i just want to be prepared
