mumofmonsters - sorry to hear you couldnt get to see anyone. Could you go and see a different GP? My GP is an idiot - he told me on Monday just to wait and see what happened and if i miscarry i miscarry. I had my booking scan with midwife after who had phoned and got me an appt within 2 mins of me being in room.

Rachel1963 - Welcome - same thing happened to me regarding dates (see post below).

LoveAndSqualor - welcome i am also a first timer so we can all work things out together

Waves to everyone else

Lcy · 24/07/2007 17:31

belgo · 24/07/2007 17:38

Glad things are looking good Lcy

Lcy · 24/07/2007 17:42

Thanks Belgo x

HolidaysQueen · 24/07/2007 18:00

Lcy - good news! I'm v pleased for you and your dh. You must be really relieved.

Lcy · 24/07/2007 18:02

Very - going to try and relax for a bit now

derah · 24/07/2007 18:47

Yay, that's such good news Lcy!!

Argh, too many people to keep up with! I'll try to make an effort to catch up after DD is in bed.

3madboys · 24/07/2007 19:20

yay great news lcy, i am slightly less panicky now, i have been horrible sick all afternoon, and i managed to get a midwife to call me, she was very reassuring and explained that the slapped cheek is very small risk. she has pushed through my scan form quickly so i should get a scan withing a fortnight

fitzfrodo · 24/07/2007 19:55

Great news Lcy

Madboys what is this about being in contact with slapped cheek? I'm sure ds get's it quite often, well when severley teehing and run down anyways just a big red mark on his cheek as though he has been slapped and doesn't go down for a day or 2???

Should i be worried?

3madboys · 24/07/2007 20:17

um slapped cheek is a viral infection that hcildren can get, also known as 5ths disease, once you have it you are immune so he souldnt be able to get it repeatedly, his red cheeks may just be from teething, its quite common

um slapped cheek like chickenpox etc is not good during early preg can increase your risk of miscarriage and casue heart probs in the baby but most people will have had it in childhood and are therefore immune, so the baby will be fine

if you are worried your midwife can get your blood tested to see if you are immune

i was worried as my mum thinks i didnt have ti during childhood, but apparently its common to get it and have no symptoms, so i have prob had it and my mum wouldnt have known

monthlymayhem · 24/07/2007 20:22

Lcy - that's really good news and must have been really reassuring

Hello and congratulations Papaya, Rachel1963 and Loveandsqualor - I am also a nervous first timer!! I'm glad you mentioned being thirsty because I've been the same and haven't heard it mentioned as a pg symptom...

3madboys - you're not being silly at all, hopefully the midwife will be able to fast track your scan

Holidays Queen - I'm also going on holiday in 3 weeks time (which means I'll be 9 weeks) and having the same dilemma. My other concern is mosquito bites - they always have a 4 course meal on me, and I've read that you shouldn't use products with deet when pg (which most repellants contain). I'm going to take some citronella candles with me, but can't walk round the resort in the evening holding a candle!! Have my GP appt tomorrow so am going to ask for any options.

I had a really sore dull ache in my tummy last night and was getting a bit worried, but it seems to have gone today

Am stupidly excited about my GP appt tomorrow, even though I know she won't be able to particularly confirm anything, but at least it feels like the first step!

Lcy · 24/07/2007 20:35

Monthly mahem - you can get deet free mosquito repellants. You should be able to get them in the supermarket or your local chemist

monthlymayhem · 24/07/2007 20:54

Thanks Lcy! That's good to know, I had visions of coming back from my holiday looking like an egg carton

WinkyGirl · 24/07/2007 20:57

Yea Lcy! Fab news about the scan.

Spugs my dd will be 22 months next March so I too am in double buggy hell. After toying with the buggy board concept I am definitely getting a double buggy instead but may also have to get a bigger car depending on the buggy I get. Just going to get the 12 week scan under my belt before doing anything except window shopping!

Love to everyone else and the mini bumps...

glammarjoram · 24/07/2007 21:29

Good evening ladies,
Lcy, that's really good news.
3mb, try not to worry (like that's possible!) sending positive vibes to you. Am I the only one who looks as if they are 6 months gone already? Admittedly I'm already in possesion of a rather admirable belly but at 8 weeks this is really ridiculous. I have noticed colleagues (who don't know) looking at my tummy area and giving me the eyebrow lifts. Gosh, if I look like this now then what on earth will I be like in 3,4,5,6 months?
Sickness has passed, in one way I'm glad but then I can't help reading too much into it. Oh and an update on the nocturnal peeing. Last night was an improvement, only woke up to pee 4 times. Have perfected the art of not opening my eyes at all
Hope everyone is well and not too sick/tired/strung out. Sorry if I didn't mention you by name, so many of us!

sweetkitty · 24/07/2007 21:40

hi all wow so much to catch up on won't answer everyone individually so my apologies. Not much going on here still just feeling a wee bit queezy now and again, boobs haven't grown at all, feeling slightly mad and hormonal but that my be normal!

Has anyone else completely lost their sex drive? I have and DP is complaining, must make an effort but I'm so tired these days.

Lcy - thats great news about your scan

welcome to all the newbies and special hellos to the first timers, we were all first timers once and we survived and are even having more. Mumsnet was a godsend when I had my first such brilliant advice on here.

double buggies - I have 18 months between my DDs and spent most of my second pregnancy agonising and researching double buggies. I got a M&P Twin Aria side by side to start with and I hated it with a passion. I thought it was quite flimsy and the seats were really small and my DD1 is quite thin if you had a big 2yo DS in one he would be squashed. I then got a Graco tandem, I found this a bit better than the side by side but a bit of a nightmare too (think all doubles are). This time I am buying a Phil and Teds. DD2 will be 2.1 yo when DB3 is born and will still need a buggy plus I will have DD1 to contend with so it would be better if DD2 was contained.

I'm also drinking loads too I was also like it in my other pregnancies. I reckon it's too make the extra fluid and blood you need.

Think I needed maternity clothes at 18 weeks with DD1 and 24 weeks with DD2. Had completely different bumps with both. DD1 it was all over more. DD2 I was a huge bump on legs. I agree Primark is great for buying cheap one size bigger clothes, I felt I only needed proper maternity clothes in the last 2 months which is such a waste of money. I spent far too much money on Next maternity wear first time but I was at work then last time it was baggy Primark clothes.

Well I've rabbited away too much tonight, take care all x

littleducks · 24/07/2007 21:59

hiya everyone, just thought i'd pop something down, im feeling sooo tired and am going to sleep and i had an afternoon nap with dd till 4!

i have to arrange a dr and midwife but am not as excited or anxious as last time round.

sweetkitty · 24/07/2007 22:22

I don't know why I'm still sitting here I'm so tired but cannot be bothered actually going upstairs to bed!

mcchesers · 24/07/2007 23:14

Hey everyone..

Lcy I know you must feel so much better.

Sweetkitty - Oh yeah, sex drive is gone with the wind...literally (so why the sex dreams?)

I feel bad sounding like a moany first timer, but I never thought it would be this complicated emotionally and physically. I've still got the sore breasts (gonna need a bigger bra) but the emotional roller coaster is rough.
I've only had the one appointment with the GP. I said to him I'm pregnant, he said ok. I said sooooo what's next? He typed in the referral to somewhere and then took my blood pressure and that was it. I chased up the referral and have been told that the hospital has had it for 2.5 weeks and will get me an appointment soon. So is this how it is? It's a waiting game and there's not much else I can do, right? I just feel a bit helpless. I met a lady on the train the other day on the way to work and she said the first 10 weeks are the hardest and it's pretty hands off in Glasgow. No word about a midwife yet and I'm just about 8 weeks. Any advice?

HolidaysQueen · 25/07/2007 08:21

Morning everyone -

First bout of ms this morning - nearly threw up but managed to retreat back to bed where DH brought me a cup of tea and slice of toast. I normaly eat big brekkies but that was all i could face this morning. Not looking forwartd to work today - big meeting an dfeeling bleugh.

Thanks everyone for maternity clothes advice. Think I might buy some maternity trousers i've tried in DP which actually look like normal ones but have a sort of hidden superexpanding ribbed bit. My tummy is so bloated and feels constricted at the mo so at least if i get these then I should be okay come the end of August. I'm also meant to be going away over Christmas (right at end of second trimester) to Mexico - of course this completely depends on what the dr/mw says, so they'll be useful for that as well if we get to go.

HQ xx

Lcy · 25/07/2007 08:48

mcchesers - i know what you mean. i thought the hardest thing about being pregnant would be to tell my boss and deal with the physical complaints. I am training as well as working full time and thought i would be able to cope. However not the case at all - it is the emotional side of things that is knocking me for six. When im meant to be writing essays i just sit there worrying (or planning which buggy to get). Poor DH has been fantastic but its scary for him to because its not just his baby but also his wife.

Luckily i am already booked in with my midwife and she has given me a 24 hour contact number for her (not that i would unless emergency) and she is doing a home visit in the next couple of weeks. I think this is really helping. My friend had the same exp as you and felt she wasnt linked into any system - like you she found it very stressful. Cant wait until we all get safely past our 12 week mark xx

WinkyGirl · 25/07/2007 08:55

Glammarjoram I too have a huge belly. It must be so obvious to my workmates. Luckily it is worse in the evening but I am running out of baggy/disguising clothes. So, I have decided to start wearing lipstick to work in a bid to distract people from the bump!!

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 09:42

Lcy thats great news!!! I didn't mean that i hadn't been able to see a gp yet i meant that i haven't had time! DP off now for a few days so will go asap.

preggersagain · 25/07/2007 09:51

someone rumbled me last night- we've vowed to keep it a secret from everyone until 12 weeks, but last night, my nanny who knows us very well, looked at my belly, watched me walk down the hallway, saw the anti-sickness bands on my wrists and came out with "well i won't be looking for a new job anytime soon then! Congratulations, January??"

I had to explain that no, in fact i am not very far gone- just have a pot belly which is excentuated by being unable to control my stomach muscles at the moment, and the unfortunate inability to carry on wearing my trinny and susannah magic pants which usually deal with said pot belly!!

On a brighter note- anyone with morning sickness or like me all day queasiness, go and get some travel bands, the ones you wear on your wrists with the little plastic button- its worked a treat for me and i'm feeling ok all day now!
