Those of you with toddlers ....

Dc4 (2.5) is still in nappies but will sometimes announce when he has done a poo. I cant decide if i should try potty training before Sept or is he just gonna go backwards with upheavel of the baby?

He also still has a dummy. Again do we try and get rid now or wait until things have calmed down after baby, christmas maybe?

What are other people doing?

When dc4 was born dc3 was already 3 and a half, dry day and night and never really used a dummy! So this is a bit different! Its like hes on the edge of these new growing up independent things and i dont know which is best!

db92 · 03/06/2019 14:01

Also feeling huge here! Feeling like a baby whale.
25 weeks and measuring 29 according to my consultant though he thinks that's expected with my dodgy uterus Hmm

I'm living in dresses at the moment and have almost given up worrying about shaving my legs now.

Finally made a start on buying baby bits yesterday. Still very undecided about pushchairs though!

TwittleBee · 03/06/2019 14:05

decaf with potty training we have DS potty trained (he is 2 next month) and its gone pretty well, just nervous about the regression too as he seems pretty obsessed with watching his cousin having his nappy changed and then trying to copy... We havent a dummy but DS does have a comforter and we wont be removing that as I feel like he will need the extra comfort?

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/06/2019 14:07

See i thought that about the comfort thing, dp says best to get rid before baby but i dont think i agree

TwittleBee · 03/06/2019 14:11

decaf can you cut down dummy time? We have restricted the comforter to only being for at home or nap time at Nursery.

happydays00 · 03/06/2019 14:48

@IVEgottheDECAF how much does he have the dummy? DD just has hers to go off to sleep at night so I'm just leaving it until Christmas or so as I figure she'll understand the dummy fairy etc a bit by then. If she used it more than that I'd start cutting it down but I'm anything for an easy life....

Apparently I have increased / excess amniotic fluid at my scan, just waiting to see the consultant now. Don't really know what that means for me or the baby?! Anyone else had this? It does explain however why I feel like a giant blob all of a sudden!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/06/2019 14:51

It depends what kind of day he is having! If tired or emotional he will have it a lot. If hes happy and content he wont bother for it.

DustyDoorframes · 03/06/2019 15:12

@IVEgottheDECAF I'd let him take the lead with the dummy- comfort he can control will be much needed come Sept! If he's interested re potty I'd start having one about and giving him the option. My DC2 is almost 3, and one day in the autumn just said "I don't need a nappy anymore Mum!" And she was right... but yeah, I'm not looking forward to the damned regression...

DustyDoorframes · 03/06/2019 15:13

@happydays00 mostly it's fine re lots of fluid, I think. I know a few people who have had extra monitoring for it but it's all been fine and entirely uneventful if tedious! Fingers crossed that's you two!

Karigan195 · 03/06/2019 16:17

I had extra fluid last pregnancy. I was monitored a bit more but that’s about it really

BBell2 · 03/06/2019 16:20

@IVEgottheDECAF I dont know what to do with the dummy either! Dd will be 3 when baby comes, she is totally in love with her dummy. She sleeps with one in and others in her hand. She doesn't have one at nursery so I know she can...but she asks for one if she is tired or unhappy - I cant bare the further sleeplessness and misery getting rid. Might try as suggested above to you and dummy-fairy at Christmas once the baby upset is over the initial hump.

TwittleBee · 03/06/2019 16:31

So I'm certainly emotional today! Bloody balled my eyes out to Pull Common People !?! Wtf haha

GemmaJen · 03/06/2019 16:53

Rubbish start to the week here too. My nan hasn't been well and they're now thinking it could be cancer. And one of the horses that has been unwell for a while may not come right, had vet and farrier visits today, the decision with what you do with her looks like it'll have to be made in September/October, which is great timing 😔. Just feeling really overwhelmed, don't think hormones are helping either, I'm not a crier normally but have been sobbing all morning. On a positive note I should have a new niece by Wednesday, in much need of good news at present.

boodles101 · 03/06/2019 17:13

Megan I would say I agree with twittleber about the silver cross, although I had the wayfarer I think it's the same as the pioneer just with smaller back wheels. I found it hard to manoeuvre and get up the curb, especially walking the dog everyday!

Decaf I attempted to potty train DS 2.4 last week over the bank holiday. He did really well for 4 days but the 5th day it all went to pot and he screamed every time he needed a wee and actually asked for his pull ups back. So I've put it on hold for now and I'll try again in a few weeks. He did have a dummy but I got rid of that back in November cold turkey and he did alot better than I ever expected him to. He now has a bedtime bear for comfort but doesn't really need it.

He is ill today though, spiked a temperature last night before bed and I put it down to maybe too much sun over the weekend. But his nursery asked me to pick him up early and when I got there he was fast asleep in the corner without his clothes on trying to cool him down. He woke and saw me and omg his poor little face, I burst into tears. He was so upset bless him and it's so unlike him. Managed to get a GP to see him straight away and got some antibiotics so hopefully he feels better quickly! I just couldn't deal with his poor little face.

Hsunshine · 03/06/2019 17:31

Has anyone started counting kicks?

Hsunshine · 03/06/2019 17:33

@twittlebee I have brought a wayferer... hope I get along with it

boodles101 · 03/06/2019 17:34

Also I'm totally counting myself as in the 3rd trimester. Only have a max 12 weeks to go now!

kyles101 · 03/06/2019 17:49

@TwittleBee yes, my arms and thighs are deffo showing gain - how??? Why??

@Whisky2014 ha ha, they didn't luckily but I would have stropped off regardless and let him deal with it. Even though it was in hindsight definitely probably me bei unreasonable.

For work I've mainly gone for dresses, just because they're easier to wash and assuming they'll be better in the summer.

@Stroan re leg shaving use my options - 1) get dh to do it 2) don't worry about it.

When does third trimester start? 27 weeks? "I'm in the third trimester" does have a certain ring to it!! Ooh typing as a catch up, just seen - 27 - Saturday for me then!!

I've not started counting @Hsunshine, some days are just so much quieter than others - for example yesterday (does always seem to be Sundays - maybe because we have a fairly lazy Sunday too 🤔) fairly subdued, but then today literally non stop - can see the movements too... 🤷‍♀️

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/06/2019 17:51

Bbell dc4 also likes to have dummies to hold as well as one in his mouth at night!

Sorry to hear about your nan and horse gemma

We do have a potty so i might get it out and see if he fancies it but not push it. My concern is it goes well, baby is born and it all goes to pot. Then i have a newborn to deal with plus a toddler having multiple accidents ...

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/06/2019 17:53

27 weeks on thursday here so will happily call that my third trimester!

Not kick counting but definitley have patterns of movement

Hsunshine · 03/06/2019 17:55

@kyles101 me too for Sunday. I spent the whole of last night and this morning stressing that he’s not really moving and debating what to do, but from about 11 has barely stopped

DustyDoorframes · 03/06/2019 17:58

Oh @GemmaJen that's tough to deal with! Free pass to sobbing when needed I think!!

@TwittleBee loving the moving ouvre of Jarvis Cocker! Well, at least it's a song that's actually about something, rather than bawling to the Cheeky Girls (which, heck, would be fine too! It's hormone time!!)

Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 18:00

Yeh I think it's once the 27th week is complete and you're into the 28th that it becomes the 3rd tri.

I'm not counting kicks. Forgot about that actually. All I know is that I get kicked alot when I'm eating and also in bed at night and morning. And currently being kicked!

Stroan · 03/06/2019 18:08

@ivegotthedecaf she's 3 and a half. I think she might have been an only child for too long!

I would maybe deal with the dummy now, I found that was one hard day and then forgotten! She only had it for sleeping but had 5/6 in the cot and was pretty addicted. We popped them all in a gift bag and left it on the doorstep for the dummy fairies who swapped the dummies for a little gift. It was fine, much easier than I thought.

With potty training, unless he seems definitely ready to go I'm not sure I would attempt it. Every friend who tried to get their first out of nappies just in time for the 2nd experienced a potty regression once the baby was born.

DustyDoorframes · 03/06/2019 18:12

Yes, regression is going to happen! My eldest had been out of nappies well over 6 months, and we had some interesting incidents... still, the bliss of those 6 months skipping about with no nappy bag and no pushchair was glorious!
