I'm sure I had lanisoh reusable pads when I had Dd, not that I needed them! Will grab some when I go shopping. It's really surprised me because I struggled with dd. Not that it means this time will be any easier 😂

excitednerves · 28/05/2019 18:45

I’m so uncomfortable today! I think baby is going for a stretching / growing phase. Feel like my tummy is just being pushed out (either that or I ate too much over the bank holiday! Also a possibility)

On the plus side I ordered some bargains from TK Maxx - a Moby wrap for £20 and the nursing pillow I almost bought in Boots this weekend for half price (was £30 in boots, £15 in TK maxx, same brand just a different print!) Happy pay day to me!

TwittleBee · 28/05/2019 19:07

I've been using the Baba + Boo reusable pads, reasonably priced and fit in my bra well.

Ah nice bargain there excitednerves !! Do love TKMaxx

Karigan195 · 28/05/2019 19:16

I’ve got a little obsessed with the Babi our online shop. They have a great choice for reuseable pads and all sorts. Current discount code is Radish or Radishes

Karigan195 · 28/05/2019 19:16

Sorry it auto corrected Babi pur

Florencenotflo · 28/05/2019 19:29

I had a bit of a pay day binge Blush I bought a new boba sling, a bamboo one which is supposed to be breathable, just in case we have nice weather into late September. But I also bought some of the expert midwife products - perineal massage oil, spritz for bits and some nipple balm. Then I bought some room spray (was recommended for hypnobirthing), giant Muslins. I am thinking of locking my debit card away now until next month!

But in my defence I am trying every old wives tale know to get this baby shifting on time! So the eviction plan (raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on my ball etc) starts in a few weeks 😂 I like being organised and still feel like I have so much to do! And this is number 2 so I should really just relax and not worry!

excitednerves · 28/05/2019 19:40

Oooh @florencenotflo please let me know what the expert midwife stuff is like. Keeps coming up on my Instagram.

DustyDoorframes · 28/05/2019 19:45

@Florencenotflo the only one there is actual evidence for is dates- 6 dates per day from 36 weeks apparently, and a bit less likely to need intervention or have a long labour...
But a friend bounced a baby out on the seesaw so I'll take an old wives tale too!
Re beast pads- I have some little lambs ones which are good, and lasted through two babies (needed to double up overnight to start with though). I had some very gorgeous silk ones that were totally rubbish too...
Spent today losing it with everyone, sigh. We are away for the rest of the week so that always puts the pressure on...

TwittleBee · 28/05/2019 20:32

Haha @Florencenotflo I done that (all the old tales) with DS and my mums convinved thats why he came bang on 37 weeks

Stroan · 28/05/2019 20:36

Dates did NOT work for me. And I really tried.

Florencenotflo · 28/05/2019 20:38

@excitednerves it seems lovely. Really nice scent and the spritz especially I think will be worth the money.

@DustyDoorframes I'll add that to my list then. Although a bloody hate dates. Is it as effective if I dipped them in Nutella or something 😂

@TwittleBee I did none of it with dd, I was happy for her to come when ever. She was born at 40+11. Willing to try it all this time, this will be my last baby so it'll be a laugh if nothing else. Although DH is looking forward to one old wives tale in particular! He's sure he's read it is daily sex from about 34 weeks. Can't blame a guy for trying!

TwittleBee · 28/05/2019 20:38

Btw for those not keen on dates, try making Devils on Horseback (mind you, probably bit unhealthy but sure make a delicious snack!)

Florencenotflo · 28/05/2019 20:39

@Stroan I imagine the effects on your bowel are what brings on labour. I'll see how desperate I get before I bulk buy!

excitednerves · 28/05/2019 21:07

I love dates! I will enjoy this very much - still a few weeks to go before then though!

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/05/2019 21:18

excited i have been feeling uncomfortable like that too! I put on a coat i hadnt worn in a week today, it only just fastened and felt so uncomfortable i had to unzip!

Funnily i have never heard the dates wives tale!
Three of mine were born following an argument. The other after eating chillies.

Stroan · 28/05/2019 21:33

The dates thing isn't actually an old wives take, there's been actual research done. Which I might have read last time. i was desperate to get labour going.

So uncomfortable and sore tonight. Think I've been having some BH and not liking it one little bit.

DustyDoorframes · 28/05/2019 22:08

It's an old wives tale in the Middle East, and actually did stand up to research- although I don't think they got evidence for it making labour come on sooner, just a bit quicker once it got going and needing a bit less intervention. I quite enjoyed it, a nice cup of decaf and some dates mid morning or after lunch felt rather civilised...

Stroan · 28/05/2019 22:16

Oh, I suppose it makes sense that it originated as an old wives take really.

I had mine with some dark chocolate. Funnily enough, I haven't had any since!

KnobJockey · 28/05/2019 22:32

Oh Stroan, I feel you for the Braxton hicks- I totally forgot how uncomfortable they are! All those books that say they're painless- yeah right, about as painless as when you eat your Christmas dinner then roll around complaining how you've eaten too much! I absolutely hate yawning and sneezing too, they have the same effect on me, like I'm being stretched too far. Totally agree with feeling stretched too, like my bellys not growing quick enough. 24 weeks today, and according to my app I have a G I Joe in tbere size wise!

TwittleBee · 29/05/2019 06:11

Brixton Hicks certainly feel like start of labour for me! That's why I was always so confused with DS and still struggle now as to when to worry because they are the same. I was talking to my step mum about it at the weekend actally as she found the same, wasn't sure what was labour and what was Braxton hicks because it felt the same; when she turned up to hospital to get checked she was almost 10cm!

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/05/2019 08:17

I find BH i can sit through. The real deal i have to do something, pace / rub the pain away etc!

Stroan · 29/05/2019 09:30

I can sit through these ok, nothing like full blown contractions. Just a tightening and uncomfortable feeling.

I didn't really get them with DD and because I'm having an ELCS this time I was a bit smug about avoiding contractions (not that I found them too bad!). Guess my body has different plans!

Megan2018 · 29/05/2019 09:43

My maternity cover has been appointed and announced - it's all feeling a bit real now! Fortunately it has gone to someone I know and like, and internal so that makes handover easy.

11 weeks left but actually only working 43 days as have holiday in that time. Managed to wrangle it so I am mostly working 4 day weeks from now, with the exception of 3 non consecutive weeks when my director is on leave and I'm covering her.
I think it is fair to say my motivation has taken a nosedive now though!

boodles101 · 29/05/2019 11:09

Megan ive just had to count my working days and I've got 30 left! DH is convinced we'll only have 2 pay days before the twins arrive too which is totally scary!!
Know what you mean about the lack of motivation though. I do alot of stuff at work to help others out as they are incompetent, so I've just started taking a back seat, telling them they need to learn and do it themselves when I'm gone!

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/05/2019 12:10

Well i have been signed off now until end of june when i have two weeks of holidays to use and then start mat leave

A bit worried it will go slower now!
