Well, I went to aldis today for the baby event. I wouldn't say "event" really. I was disappointed but I did get the little dinosaur baby grows and some socks.

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 19:12

There's a big baby event on when I'm on Glasgow. It's a baby and toddler thing at the SEC. Do you think this is worth going to? Do you actually get good deals at these sorts of things? babyandtoddlershow.co.uk/glasgow/

easterbuns1 · 25/04/2019 19:20

@Whisky2014 I've not been but friends of friends have and said it's a good place to get good deals if you have big purchases to get. I quite fancied going down for a nosey but miss frugal here has already mapped out her purchases down to the last penny.

Oh wow, very organised indeed!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 25/04/2019 19:29

@Whisky2014 we’ve been to the baby show before and it is quite good for deals and trying stuff out - we bought our high chair there and made final decisions on car seat and pram. Also good for freebies — pick up as many free packs of wipes and mam bottles as you can! The shows get busy though so aim to get there first thing if you go

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 19:30

Ok thanks bridget!

Megan2018 · 25/04/2019 19:34

There’s one at the NEC but it’s my idea of hell so not going. I figure by the time we get tickets, buy food and train any savings will be wiped out. And there is no way on earth DH will go.
But I think they are a good idea in principle to see a lot of products. I’m just a cynical old goat who won’t pay to go shopping Grin

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 19:39

I know what you mean @Megan2018. I wouldnt usually go to something like that but since I'm already gona be in Glasgow I just thought it could be good.
Whilst i have you here I did comment a wee while ago but I didn't put an @ at your name so not sure if you saw it...was it you who was looking at sort of off roady type prams? Good for in forests etc?

TheCraicDealer · 25/04/2019 19:44

I went to one in Dublin two years ago with DSis when she was expecting. I think it's worth it if you're ready to buy a big ticket item like a pram as there's potential for a considerable saving even if it's "only" 10% off or whatever. But beyond that there's usually freebies, interesting products you mightn't see elsewhere and it's a nice day out- I would drag DH to one for the craic but he's lucky in that there's none locally! I still don't think he's forgiven for me for the wedding show! Grin

Megan2018 · 25/04/2019 19:47

@Whisky2014
Yes I am looking for pushchair that’s good off road as we live rurally and it’ll be up the farm with the horse too. But my car is a bit tricky as it’s unusual (electric).
We have a shortlist to visit to try out at some point. But some of them are more £ than I want to pay.
Uppababy Vista
Quinny Buzz Extra
Jane Crosswalk r or Trider
Maxi Cosi Nova
Mamas and Papas Ocarro
Bugaboo Chameleon
iCandy Peach All-terrain

TheCraicDealer · 25/04/2019 19:50

Ok he might not be so lucky- there's one in the Birmingham NEC in May which isn't too far from his parents'. We're due a visit anyway Grin and it says, "For parents unsure about what buggy to go for, they can make the most of the MadeForMums Buggy Testing Track where you can try your favourite on an array of surfaces to see which suits you, and your lifestyle, best!"

I'm sorry but that sounds class! We've picked our pram but I'd probably still have a go!

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 19:52

Haha @TheCraicDealer I took my husband to a wedding fayre but lucky for him i hated it and we never went to any more. Think he got off lightly. Since he'll be with me in Glasgow he'll just have to come! Maybe the grandparents too :D

@megan2018 thank you! I'm also country living and need similar so thank you so much for giving me that list!!

BBell2 · 25/04/2019 19:53

@TwittleBee interesting chat on the birth debriefs (I'm a bit behind today). I just wrote to my trust to get my notes at recommendation of MW, bet it's not a quick process. She offered to go through them with me at 26wks but never mentioned I could still get a debrief. I wasnt offered one properly at the time but my friends a sister and said we had a rough time and did suggest it - I just thought she was being matey rather than in role. I was pleased she didn't come in while I was in labour but would have her next time!

Its mentioned a bit above, but regard student midwives I just want to say how unbelievably amazing mine was. I dont remember her ever leaving in a 18hr drip induction, she certainly stayed around to help with baby and clean up. She was so calm even in the interventions and she hand recorded contractions and baby heatblips for hours on end, made me laugh when I felt horrific, she was a hero in the making.

Megan2018 · 25/04/2019 20:00

@Whisky2014
There were others too but they don’t offer parent facing in pushchair mode so for now I’m ignoring them.
They are:
Baby Jogger city mini GT
Micralite Smartfold
Out n About Nipper

TwittleBee · 25/04/2019 20:13

@BBell2 ah that is brilliant your MW has said she will go through your notes with you. Still waiting to hear back from mine. I fear I never will and when I next see her at 28 week appointment she will just say its too late now. Totally know many student MWs are amazing and besides, many are super close to being qualified fully and they've all got to start somewhere. I just remember mine being in such a flap, anything but calming and she made numerous mistakes including cutting me open on the inside... Still wonder if thats what caused the sepsis?

Just purchasing my first bundle of 2nd hand reusable nappies! Feeling excited but equally stressed! £15 though for 3 nappy sets and 10 liners including postage.

Fortheloveofscience · 25/04/2019 20:48

Evening everyone Smile

Seems today marks the day when I definitely look pregnant rather than maybe pregnant/maybe fat - I was offered a seat twice on the tube today despite not wearing my ‘baby on board’ badge.

But also getting massively pissed with a woman at work who insists on commenting every time I see her (several times a day!) how “she always said I was going to be one of those people who had a tiny bump and hardly showed, you can still barely see it, blah blah blah.” Gives me proper rage, not least because I feel huge and my back’s really aching.

Megan I need to remember where you’ve posted your list of off-road peaks for reference once I’ve had my scan next week and start shopping!

Fortheloveofscience · 25/04/2019 20:49

prams, not peaks

Stroan · 25/04/2019 20:50

I had a student midwife at my delivery, she did everything but my birth didn't count towards the 40 she needed to qualify because a doctor had to step in (not her fault at all!)

There was also a trainee doctor in the room, I liked him because he helped me get to the bathroom when the midwives suggested that I shouldn't. It was his first ever birth and he was ushered out of the room afterwards to go for a sit down. Poor guy was in a bit of a state.

BBell2 · 25/04/2019 21:05

@twittlebee, jeez that would put me off, I feel very lucky about mine now, she was called Beth i remember 3 yrs later when most is a blur. The trainee registrar was a dick (I told her so unfortunately) and the consultant completely impersonal but I loved the midwives.

happydays00 · 25/04/2019 21:14

I had an amazing student midwife too. She was so calm and sweet and came to check in on us the day after.

I had my birth debrief today, it was fine. I don't know if it really helped as the bit I feel anxious about is the run up to the birth (ie if it takes 4 days to get me into established labour again if induced). My hospital is a huge trust (6000+ births a year) and it constantly seems so woefully under pressure and under staffed that so much seems out of their control. They have always been great at delivering the care when it gets to that point and I know if I could labour at home as much as possible and arrive at 7cm there would be no issues but anything else is making me a bit anxious still..

Strongly considering going to look round another hospital but as I'm already trying to persuade my consultant to let me be midwife led I don't know if I should just let things lie for now and revisit in another month or two. Tricky....

Also very disappointed with the Aldi baby event , I left with a step for the bathroom for DD 😒

GemmaJen · 25/04/2019 21:16

@Whisky2014 popped into Aldi too, a bit disappointed, much preferred the Lidl selection earlier in the week, but we did managed to pick up a cute hooded towel, so that's ticked of the list ☺️

I'm with you on the detailed list @easterbuns1, I've got a detailed plan and am quite enjoying ticking things off as we get them.

Currently sat here with my mildly dead whooping cough vaccinated arm feeling scared to death about tomorrow's scan. Absolutely paranoid something is going to be wrong 🙈 don't know how I'm going to make it through work in the morning with this on my mind 🙁

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 21:20

GemmaJen oh I didnt know Lidl had one on. Oh well! Yeh i saw those hooded towels and they were cute!

You're scan will be fine :)

IVEgottheDECAF · 25/04/2019 21:25

I had a student mw with my first. She stood in the corner looking petrified.

Also went in to Aldi, got a pack of bibs.

KLane · 25/04/2019 21:38

@whisky2014 The baby show is so helpful to try things like prams and slings, and if you can get great discounts as everyone has mentioned. There are also brands that are typically online only/hard to find in stores. We went early to avoid crowds, but apparently if you wait until the afternoon on the last day, you can buy the display models for ridiculous discounts.

Whisky2014 · 25/04/2019 21:41

Oh that's interesting @Klane!
