Well today has started off great. Took the dog out for a walk with DS, came back and realised DS has put a key on the inside of the lock so I can't get it.
So currently sitting with DS, dog and big fat bump waiting on a timescale for a locksmith.

boodles101 · 07/05/2019 11:09

I'm in! Luckily my mum came over with a credit card and a wire coat hanger and she managed to get in. Shows how easy it is to break into my house though!

TwittleBee · 07/05/2019 11:09

woah that is crazy easy then boodles ! Maybe get the lock smith round still to make it more secure?

Astret · 07/05/2019 11:12

Good job boodles! I hear that's the problem with yale locks on their own though - a good old mortice requires old-skool lockpicking! Def get one fitted if you don't have one already.

boodles101 · 07/05/2019 11:17

It does lock more securely but we have never bothered with it. Certainly will do from now!

Fortheloveofscience · 07/05/2019 11:20

I don’t know if AIBU with pregnancy hormones or not - my dad and I aren’t close, but I’d told him about the baby a couple of weeks ago. I saw DB and family on Saturday and told everyone the news that we’re having a girl. Dad saw DB yesterday so I assumed now knew, he texted me about something unrelated yesterday so I replied and at the end said “I assume DB told you we’re having a girl”. And he replied “I didn’t want to know, wouldn’t let DB tell me. Oh well, never mind.” And I cried Blush.

Lavellan · 07/05/2019 11:27

@Fortheloveofscience I know that feeling all too well if you're like me. I still love my dad and want to make him happy, but we talk so infrequently and he's so straight to the point, sometimes it's like we don't know each other very well. My dad's emails always seem to make me cry but I don't think it's the same the other way round.

sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops · 07/05/2019 11:30

@boodles101 oh no! But glad you're in! There is nothing more stressful than being locked out. I had to get DH to leave a wedding 3 hours away to let me in a few months ago Blush Had no car keys or anything so the only place I could walk to was the shopping centre beside us. I then found my keys when he'd arrived back...he wasn't happy...

boodles101 · 07/05/2019 13:06

So day got slightly better, went to the local Citroen car garage to compare a picasso with a grand picasso to decide which one we should actually go for. They had just taken in one that is perfect for us, within budget and right mileage/age etc so I out down a deposit. So I've gone from needing to really pull my finger out at looking at cars, to just seeing the perfect one straight away!

Stroan · 07/05/2019 13:56

@twittlebee I need to find that marathon comparison! Part of the reason DH is tired is because he's training for a half marathon so gets up early to run. But stays up too late as well...

Just had a 23 week midwife and diabetic consultant appointment. Got my MatB1 and Baby Box forms and heard the heartbeat. Consultant was SO lovely, really made me feel better and explained why the GD is worse this time (I'm older!). She's happy with how I'm eating etc and also agreed that I should definitely be having an ELCS and I'll get a date around 34 weeks. Feel very relieved that she'll be in charge of all my care now.

TwittleBee · 07/05/2019 14:40

@Stroan not sure if this image I've attached was it or not. Feel like it was something a bit more concrete in exactly how much energy we use but might help you still!

Thoughts on baby monitors please.

In the first months as baby will either be downstairs with us for daytime naps - or upstairs in bed with us (so not asleep unattended) - is there any point to having a monitor from day 1?

I am trying to divide my list into things we need from Day 1 and things we will need later. I imagine once she is sleeping in her own room it will be necessary - but is there any point if they are with you all the time in the first 6 months?

Stroan · 07/05/2019 14:44

Thanks @twittlebee I shouldn't complain as he does SO much, but the tiredness contest is getting a bit old now.

@megan2018 I wouldn't say you need one from Day 1. Don't think we used one until around 5 months when she started going upstairs a bit earlier than we did. Until then, she was never alone.

Stroan · 07/05/2019 14:47

@fortheloveofscience sorry you didn't get a good response from your Dad. It can be so hurtful when people don't react in a nice way.

We told DH's family that we are having a boy on Saturday and no-one has acknowledged it at all. I'll remember that when they start demanding that we visit them after the baby is here.

Karigan195 · 07/05/2019 14:51

@Megan2018. I’d say yes. There’s bound to be a point where baby falls asleep at an inconvenient time or place and you don’t want to move her but need to do something quickly e.g finally shower, hang laundry, get the chicken out the oven.

TwittleBee · 07/05/2019 14:55

Megan pretty sure we didnt get a baby monitor until we actually moved out of our flat and into our house so around 9 months.

Stroan well at least now you can point out that your body is basically continually working harder than his and so are certainly more tired even if he is training!

@Megan2018 I had one from day one with the older two, just for handiness plus it told me temp in the room and played music so got them used to that early on. Was just plain old sound then though most of the new ones seem to have video which is quite cool.

@Stroan I know youre probable sorted on clothing now that you know he's a boy, but I saw these sleepsuits in Morrisons earlier and thought of you. Morrisons doesn't do clothing online though.

Gap also have a fair amount of stuff in the sale, with an extra 25% off sale til the end of today, there's some really cute knitted cardis in there.

KnobJockey · 07/05/2019 17:18

Megan, I never had one for DD, I always assumed she slept through early and self settled, but in hindsight it's probably just that I didn't hear her! I'm not bothering with getting one right away, I'll worry when he/she goes to her own room.

KnobJockey · 07/05/2019 17:19

Any SPD sufferers hot any sleeping tips? I've got a cushion for between my knees, but last night was horrible. Couldn't lay on either side as it hurt too much, couldn't lay on my back as it made me breathless.

KnobJockey · 07/05/2019 17:20

Help if the picture of the sleepsuits attached!

@KnobJockey SPD is rubbish- I had it last time & my brother ordered me a HUGE pillow on amazon which took up half the bed. I found it much more helpful than a single normal pillow. DH was not pleased (& slept hanging off the edge for 6 months...Grin) but it helped a lot. I don't know the exact one he bought but this looks similar. This time around, I'm on crutches already for it but DH claims the pillow has got "lost". I am highly suspicious...

happydays00 · 07/05/2019 17:55

I read DH the post on how we're using more energy resting than they are during exercise, his response "what a load of cock" 😒 brilliant.

@KnobJockey - I was really struggling with my pelvis and sciatica and bought a "BB Hug Me" pillow. I got it second hand (they are quite extortionate new) but it has worked miracles and to be honest I'd probably pay the £120 for a new one if I knew just how amazing it has been for me!!

Stroan · 07/05/2019 18:04

Thanks @knobjockey those are exactly what I like! I've found a few things but hadn't realised there was SO much baby blue out there.
