I only found out I actually preeclampsia rather than just high BP with DC1 at an appointment midway through my pregnancy with DC2- but actually, looking back, I was induced based on the BP, and I think the bloods which made it a PE diagnosis only came back when I was in the process- so I can't imagine anyone checked for them at that point, and I wouldn't really have been interested between pushes...

MyHomey · 23/04/2019 16:50

@Megan2018 my scan is tomorrow too! Nervous and excited all at once... Confused

MyHomey · 23/04/2019 16:51

Is anyone hungry and eating ALL THE TIME? I have an insatiable appetite...

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 16:52

Seems crazy to think i shouldnt have another scan now. Next time i see this baby it should be in person Shock

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 16:53

Currently eating a packet of burger cheese slices myhomey ...... Blush

MyHomey · 23/04/2019 16:56

@IVEgottheDECAF hahaha!! They are tasty aren't they?! I wonder how much cheese is in them... 🤔

Would you consider having a private scan before the birth? This is my first so I don't know what the norm is.. I just feel it is an awfully long time to go without seeing it! (But I guess you feel it more..?)

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 17:03

No probably not. I have had private scans in previous pregnancies to confirm sex but cant justify the cost this year with me having been on sick due to spd. Every penny counts towards the baby gear and hopefully a little holiday!

Bought more stuff in next sale, think i have all the sleep suits i need now in 0-1 & 0-3 months. Plus a pram suit and cardigan, some socks and hats. Need to make sure i dont over by now!

Hsunshine · 23/04/2019 17:28

I haven’t had any other babies but I’m just going to keep telling myself you go in pregnant and come out with a baby and not think about the part in between

I literally eat non stop

TheCraicDealer · 23/04/2019 17:43

I have quite low expectations of labour- not fussed about pools or whatever but I will give it a go if the option is there. As someone who is both quite cynical and has a short attention span (honestly my thought process is akin to a pigeon chasing after a bit of tinfoil on a windy day), I'm not sure hypnobirthing is for me tbh. Just going to be upfront about my low pain threshold, try not to get scared and keep positive.

Stroan · 23/04/2019 17:49

@twittlebee yes, loads better. Although I think he will be squeamish.

He just kept telling people stuff! And he's not really an oversharer at all. He saw DD be resuscitated and that definitely affected him. Then his Mum shut him down and told him that he wasn't to talk about birth or pregnancy or breastfeeding (like it was a disgusting subject) and he clammed up after that. I sometimes wonder if I should have suggested he spoke to someone professional.

@happydays00 I wonder if it's all just so routine to the midwives etc? I had a transfusion but it took 3 days for them to realise I needed one, and nobody ever really explained why it took so long.

KLane · 23/04/2019 17:55

@twittlebee Yes, definitely feeling uncertain about labour. I fully expected to go to 42 weeks last time (went into labour at 40+4 as it turned out). But because I only have 1 DC, there's no pattern to expect. What makes me particularly nervous is going into labour before my due date and not having anyone around to watch DS. I'm planning a home birth for this reason, as we have no family within a 5 hour drive. If my in laws are down post due date, I can then choose to go to the birthing centre, even though I've planned for a home birth. Also, I did boat loads of hypnobirthing last time so thought I was really prepared (hilllllarious). Knowing makes me more nervous!

Stroan · 23/04/2019 17:57

@hsunshine and the @thecraicdealer totally the right attitude, it can't be controlled anyway! Mine wasn't "bad", just slightly dramatic. And they know about that and can do it differently.

On a different note, has anyone seen any brightly coloured unisex newborn clothes? I've seen a few things that are all animal themed. Animals are fine, but is there nothing a bit less themed?! Maybe some nice stars, or spots? It's all so insipid.

Megan2018 · 23/04/2019 18:40

I’m imagining labour to be 48hrs+ of agony followed by EMCS, I think it is fair to say I am dreading it!!
I am convinced I’ll have the combo of all of the worst bits of my friends labours. I think I’ve heard every horror story going (alas non-one I know has had an easy time). So I go in to it with an overly pessimistic view.
I will try the hypnobirthing pack (bought it already but not ready for it yet) as I want to try and alleviate the anxiety a bit.

I still want to ask for ELCS but part of me thinks I should just let things happen and see. It can’t be as bad as in my head.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:19

stroan i think h and m have some bits like that but the sleepsuits are all footless, dunno how you feel about that!

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:20

megan i have had four pretty straight forward no horror show births! No induction, no stitches, no forceps etc etc.

KnobJockey · 23/04/2019 19:29

Stroan if it's multi stars you're definitely after, JoJo have a fab suit in, but it's £14 for 1 sleepsuit- too expensive for my tastes! I've just bought a 3 pack from Tesco's that I love with rainbows and ducks on, and they had some quite fun banana ones in. This rainbow ones coming to the hospital with us ( the others are in the same vein, but this is my favourite!)

September babies thread #6 - half way!
IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:31

Banana ones Shock my local tesco only had boring stuff!

TwittleBee · 23/04/2019 19:32

Actually got some bright sleepsuits from Sainsburys today Stroan ! Maybe it might still be worth him talking to someone, it is a shame that your MIL was like that. Hopedully your DH is okay now though and will be fine durimg the ELCS! (And you too obviously!!) My DH suffered with late onset PND and talking about it all helped him loads.

Haha it is funny how uncertain yet how much clarity it feels like we have at the same time isn't it KLane ! I would consider a homebirth (in fact I actually really researched it all and decided it was for me) but DH is not keen on the idea as he thinks we will benefit from staying on a ward post birth in case we need help BFing or this one is jaundice too (MWs were late to spot it last time despite being on a ward is my argument though). Are you getting in any extra stuff for homebirth, e.g. hiring a pool or buying a tens machine?

Don't get me started on Next sales IVEgottheDECAF haha swear its an addoction for me!

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:33

I will say it is worth a look in the next sale online, sale price for sleepsuits is £8 for 3 which is around supermarket prices and they do tend to keep shape better and bobble less! The stock on there constantly changes and i find it is often best around 3am Blush

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:34

Twittle Grin

Hsunshine · 23/04/2019 19:36

What is the difference between first size and up to 1 month?

KnobJockey · 23/04/2019 19:37

That's surprising Decaf, I found loads in Tesco, but I have a superstore not far away. Such a shame they don't do online any more! That's one of the stores I've seen where the boys stuff seems a lot better than the girls ( I look at both to pick unisex bits out)

Megan2018 · 23/04/2019 19:38

@Hsunshine
Its weight based-but varies shop to shop annoyingly! Otherwise known as Newborn.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/04/2019 19:40

Usually first size is smaller so up to i think 7.5lb, first size is up to 10lb. All the sizes should show weight.

It is probably different now but i think 7.5lb used to be average size of a first born baby. For someone like me though who has never had a baby that small i wont buy anything smaller than up to one month
