I'm going to the hospital soon to start on insulin for gestational diabetes. It was fully diet controlled in my last pregnancy and I'd hoped for the same again, but my overnight blood sugar levels are wild.

Feel so down about it, and worried about the potential harm to the baby. Not helped by nausea ramping up, the medication making me feel even more sick and GD-friendly food being pretty much the opposite of what I can stomach. I am not feeling the love for pregnancy today.

Megan2018 · 30/04/2019 11:28

Just had a reiki taster session at work as part of a well-being day.
Baby went mad! So much kicking! Had hardly felt her until that. How strange! It was very relaxing though.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 30/04/2019 11:43

@stroan Fingers crossed for positive outcome with the insulin. You’re doing a smashing job and doing everything you can to be healthy for your growing bean.

barberstreisand · 30/04/2019 11:56

Hi ladies, I’m a bit late to the party but just found this. Is there any chance I’d be able to join, I’m 18+4 with my second DC.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 30/04/2019 11:57

Thanks ladies for the words of wisdom on low lying placenta. Just another thing to worry about I guess! Really shouldn’t have Googled complications..!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 30/04/2019 11:59

Welcome @barberstreisand! When are you due? We have a google docs spreadsheet going which we’ve all updated with our details to keep track: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VUDuTLeibUnnaCWCjb-pqUe4Wnq-fTau4HJgmE1XE3c/edit?usp=sharing

barberstreisand · 30/04/2019 12:19

BridgetJonesDaiquiri I’m due on the 26th, I’ll put it all into the doc now, thank you for linking it for me

db92 · 30/04/2019 12:23

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri Google is the worst sometimes isn't it!

I have a heart shaped uterus and it's never been mentioned more than just in passing until my scan yesterday when the sonographer said it should be monitored. Queue a night of googling and scaring myself with horror stories.

My placenta is high and anterior but the sonographer said that low lying placentas will more often than not move up, high placentas just don't move back down.

Whisky2014 · 30/04/2019 12:59

Db92 I had the same with a bicornuate uterus however it's not been mentioned at the last scan and i assume all is ok. None if the midwives cares when i mentioned it to them!
Just got back from a shop at Lidl. They have maternity leggings and tops. I went a bit mad!if anyone is buying the Bumgenious elemental nappy (elemental not elemental joy!) Then please be aware the video liked on the nappy ladies page is not the nappy you receive you receive the latest version which has a layer of cotton sewn to the waterproof layer whereas the one on her video there is just 2 free cotton layers and the waterproof layer is free. I'm a bit disappointed as i didn't want the layer seen on but to be fair I have only based this on online videos and pictures so
when i receive my order today I'll get a better feel

Lavellan · 30/04/2019 14:12

I got the maternity sports leggings from Lidl and they were small for the size. I wore them to yoga without trying them properly and they felt awful tight over my bump. Might be a plus size problem but I was dissapointed.

TwittleBee · 30/04/2019 14:33

oh Stroan that sounds so rough! You are doing a great job growing your baby, GD is just one of those unfair things but you are doing what you can do to help the situation. Good luck at the hospital.

Welcome barberstreisand glad you found us!

The Lidl and Aldi clothes are too big for me Sad they don't do size 6 where I am! But did grab a funky set of maternity Pjs from there; DH was horrified at how garish they were but I love them!

I think I might have actually popped now at 20 weeks today, been offered seats on the tube and people apologies for getting in my way etc! Oh and I was welcomed to queue jump at the loos!

Karigan195 · 30/04/2019 14:44

I got some leggings from lidl last week. Little disappointed to be honest as they are ‘see through’

Megan2018 · 30/04/2019 15:45

Sorry you are having such a rough time @stroan - the insulin should help though and I am sure baby will be fine. I am expecting to get GD myself as Type 2 is rife in our family (genetic) and both my cousins developed GD in pregnancy. I think it is just a matter of time for me.

Welcome to the thread @barberstreisand

DustyDoorframes · 30/04/2019 16:45

Oh @Stroan you've been through the mill!! Hopefully the insulin will help things super speedily. I hear you re worrying about the baby- remember that this pregnancy was going to go how it goes. The massive difference YOU have made is by seeking and getting the brilliant medical care we have access to. You are making a massive difference to the baby that way, which is totally the OPPOSITE to letting them down Thanks

Hsunshine · 30/04/2019 17:16

Is it too early to worry about baby not moving? Normally he moves but today I don’t think I’ve felt him. I’m almost 23 weeks

Karigan195 · 30/04/2019 17:23

@Hsunshine. Have an icy cold drink and then sit down for a bit. He may just be sleeping when you are quiet enough to feel him. Cold drink usually works to wake them up 😂

easterbuns1 · 30/04/2019 17:24

@Hsunshine they say there's no pattern til 24 weeks but if you haven't felt him at all and are concerned give the mw a ring for a check. Have you tried fizzy juice / hot tea / something sugary / cold water whichever seems to get your baby going?

OP posts:
Megan2018 · 30/04/2019 17:24

@Hsunshine
I think opinions on this vary. My MW said to contact them from 24 weeks with movement worries, others say earlier. Maybe ring your MW and ask?

I am barely feeling anything at 20+5 so not monitoring yet, but if I had more definite regular movement I’d probably want to be checked.
Have you tried the ice cold drink and lying on your left? I’m sure that’s what my step sister did to try and get a response.

Karigan195 · 30/04/2019 17:26

@Stroan this thread moves too quickly sometimes so didn’t catch your post before!

Hopefully the insulin will help and remember it’s only for a few short months. You can do this and you will both be fine!

Hsunshine · 30/04/2019 17:31

I’ve had some choc and fizzy drink and I lied on my side. Few mins of movement so maybe he just needed a sugar pick me up... thank you all 💖

I haven’t noticed a pattern yet just noticed today was still

barberstreisand · 30/04/2019 17:31

@Stroan I hope you’re doing okay, I know how upsetting it can be when things suddenly go completely out of your control. But remember what you’re doing is the best thing for you and your baby.

TwittleBee · 30/04/2019 17:36

Bloody hell, anyone else finding they aren't as good with stress when pregnant? Feel like I'm gonna burst into tears after today's working day!

Hsunshine · 30/04/2019 18:08

@twittlebee literally me every day

barberstreisand · 30/04/2019 18:15

@TwittleBee DS wouldn’t get in the bath this morning and I needed to get us out the house, I broke down sobbing because of it. I’ve be one a wreck with this one

TwittleBee · 30/04/2019 18:22

Glad it's not just me! Although also not nice to know others are suffering!

I'm usually pretty good under deadlines and stresses but idk, today I felt so unable to think!
