If you get pain done just one side after the epidural has worked on the other it can be because the catheter (the plastic epidural “straw”) has migrated to your left or right; needs a tiny bit of manipulation from the anaesthetist - so they can reattend and sort e.g. pulling it out a bit so it sits more in the middle.

You do have to be on your back for top ups/at the beginning as gravity affects spread so if you lay in your left or right the epidural mix will head for there and you will end up with a unilateral block.

BonnieSeptember · 28/04/2019 13:16

Thanks everyone for your responses! My instinct at the moment is to plan to not get one, but put in my birth plan that if it gets the the point where I am struggling, that I do want one.

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 14:57

I am hopeful i can manage just gas and air again!

21+3 today, going to book my whooping cough tomorrow i think

excitednerves · 28/04/2019 17:33

Is anyone getting the nesting/tidying thing yet?

Not sure if this is being driven by the need to find space for maternity clothes and the few baby things I’ve bought so far, or the nesting instinct that I’ve heard so much about, but I’ve been obsessively cleaning and chucking out for the past few weekends.

On the plus side, made over £300 on eBay!

BBell2 · 28/04/2019 20:28

A bit @excitednerves, not for proper cleaning (which would be useful!) But I've checked a bunch of old clothes, made OH do the same. Got all DDs clothes out, sorted into ages and gender suitable piles. Glad I did it, lots had gained yellow Mark's in storage and need some TLC. Know where I'm at now!

Stroan · 28/04/2019 20:44

A little bit of sorting stuff out. Have been through all of DDs clothes and arranged them in size order, donated anything I didn't love. Sorted out my clothes since only maternity stuff fits!

We've done loads in the garden so that DD can play out there in the summer when I'm too huge to drag her out somewhere else.

I didn't really get an urge to clean last time, but I was making cushions and painting furniture at 39 weeks. You know, the essentials...

Dyra · 28/04/2019 20:50

My husband is nesting far more than I am. Yet somehow he is still blind to folded laundry and emptying/loading the dishwasher.

excitednerves · 28/04/2019 20:59

I need to get Mr Excited involved! I feel I have totally trimmed back all my junk now, he needs a clear out too. I haven’t watched the Marie Kondo series yet - that might even inspire me further.

I have been hit by the deep cleaning urge which makes me feel irrationally proud. I want to show off all my hard work - a gold star wouldn’t go amiss either!

Now back to researching pushchairs! ConfusedConfused

easterbuns1 · 28/04/2019 21:55

We are moving house in a couple of weeks so I'm just trying to get organised for that and not panic too much about having to lug boxes about. Already started packing wee bits and bobs here so my house is. It how I like it to be, will be glad to get in and sorted!

Megan2018 · 29/04/2019 07:05

No nesting here yet!
I could do with an incentive though. We need storage solutions, house was brand new 9 months ago and we have a list of things to do but no energy for it.
The loft is a mess as so much was chucked up in a hurry.

happydays00 · 29/04/2019 07:11

God no to the nesting, but then sadly that urge never kicked in last time either! Also moving house in a couple of weeks so perhaps I'll feel more motivated after that to sort things. There is quite a lot of refurb and renovation needed when we move so it will be a case of prioritising I suppose.

@IVEgottheDECAF how did your household manage over the weekend with the dreaded sickness bug?

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/04/2019 07:27

I have never nested either! Shame really i would have such a nicer house with five periods of nesting Grin

Sickness seems to have passed with only dc4 being sick (touch wood) he hasnt been sick since early yesterday but still not his usual self

TwittleBee · 29/04/2019 07:54

Oh I am such a nester, tbf though I enjoy sorting stuff anyway!

We are currently still doing our house up and so I'm super wanting to get it done now before August.

Farmmama · 29/04/2019 09:07

No nesting yet but wish it would kick in as I have a lot of sorting it to do!
My plan is to try and go with the flow again. Last time my perm birth happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to think about things much and I hadn’t started writing a birth plan anyway. Managed with just gas and air in the end (omg what a life saver, I couldn’t have done it without it!). Had to have an episiotomy and forceps as baby got stuck so it was needed and it was a case of do what you have to do. I felt very safe in the doctors hands. It was nowhere near as bad as I had thought it would be. I just want to try and avoid a c section again purely because of the recovery time and physical restrictions afterwards. I was back walking the dogs after a couple of days (only very briefly around the farm yard and JohnWayne style for a week or so) and riding my horse after 4 weeks last time and obviously a c section would delay that quite a lot. It really amazed me how quickly the body repairs after a natural birth. Remember, this is what your body has been designed to do so go with it and it will all be ok :-)

Megan2018 · 29/04/2019 09:18

@Farmmama
The problem is in my family our bodies are crap at birth - my Mum had to have 2 sections, so did her mother and her sister. Go back any further and they all died in childbirth. I am blessed with a narrow pelvis and no hips.
I don't think there is a hope in hell of baby coming out the way it is meant to. I'm waiting on the consultants view as to whether to try or not.
Fortunately horse is semi retired and is going to have the winter off anyway. So if I am out of action with a section I don't have that to worry about. They'll still be on Summer routine until early Nov so hopefully even with a section I'll be back to mucking out by then!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 29/04/2019 09:21

@excitednerves I decided to clean the bathroom very thoroughly last night while dd was in the bath, despite feeling horribly sick (thankfully managed to be sick before I'd cleaned the toilet 🙈) so think it is hitting here! Have an appointment with GP about sickness today so hopefully if they can help sort it then cleaning and sorting can happen more thoroughly, currently energy is the issue!

Megan2018 · 29/04/2019 09:25

Cloth nappy people - have any of you bought a changing bag yet?
I can't choose.
Want a backpack option so I can use with sling but want to make sure it is not too heavy but big enough for wet bag, wipes and plenty of nappies!

Oh and I had the weirdest moment in Tesco on Saturday - teeny baby out shopping with Mum, it started doing that little newborn grumble/cry (not full on screaming) and I felt really odd and teary. Never had that before - hormones clearly on alert!

Farmmama · 29/04/2019 09:36

@meghan2018 No wonder you feel anxious! Yes, my two will be living out for as long as possible this autumn to avoid mucking out!

Karigan195 · 29/04/2019 10:08

I had a section last time. You will easily be back to mucking out capable by November. Within 6 weeks it was pretty much healed just a bit weak and had to take it a little easier last time. Also don’t do what I did and do listen to your dr. I decided to ride 3.5 weeks post c section. Tried to sit up after doing a gate, realised my stomach muscles couldn’t do it and ended up on the floor 😂

Farmmama · 29/04/2019 10:36

@karrigan195 Oooops Confused

Megan2018 · 29/04/2019 10:38

Molly is a lardy one and has metabolic issues so is in during the day all Spring, Summer and early Autumn to get off the grass but she has mats and a small day bed. Yard owner will muck that out for me Mon-Fri as literally takes 2 mins and DH can do the weekends under supervision until I am capable. As long as I am fit for the big straw beds and haynets come winter all will be well! We usually bring in after Bonfire night.

I'm planning on not riding until March next year once I stop - she's easy in that she doesn't care if she is ridden or not. Their winter field is a massive hill and she self exercises to some extent. That way there is no pressure to get back on too quickly. But I'll keep her shod so if I find I want to ride sooner I can do. But I don't want to push myself to get back on and leave baby if I don't want to.
@karigan195 - we are usually fab at gates but we have a couple of tricky ones that I have nearly come off at with the bump in the way now. I can't do the lifting whilst on, most annoying! Blush

But you never know - I might manage to push baby out and then it will not matter. I just don't rate my chances.

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/04/2019 12:14

Tried Tesco again this morning and found the banana sleepsuits and vests! Grin Have everything we need now in 0-1 month. Need maybe 6 sleepsuits in 0-3 and more bibs!

boodles101 · 29/04/2019 12:20

Have my 20 week scan on Weds which I'm a bit anxious about but also excited. Feel like it went really quickly up until last week when I started counting down, now it's just dragging!
Me and DH have a day off work on Thurs and have planned a nice day out to buy a few bits and celebrate hopefully what will be 2 healthy babies.

Also got midwife on weds morning and going to ask her to try and book me a 24 week scan, my consultant said every 4 weeks but then booked from 28 onwards so I feel a bit anxious about that. 8 weeks is a long time to wait if they need to be checking them more regularly!

Hsunshine · 29/04/2019 13:12

@ivegotthedecaf how many 1 month and 0-3 month is good to have?

@boodles101 are you going to find out if they’re boys/girls/ one of each?

easterbuns1 · 29/04/2019 13:12

@boodles101 I've got my scan on Wednesday too although I will be 21+5.

It's the first scan since my mc I've not been in a massive flap about which seems daft when it's the important anomaly scan. Will still be glad to get it over and done with though and hopefully all ok.
