I have no idea why but i feel like i would be pissed off by a tens machine ... Confused

TwittleBee · 27/04/2019 16:02

I think I kind of get what you mean by it, something sticky on you and pulsating away being all on you with wires everywhere.

Just hoping it will give me another pain relief option, or maybe I'll be able to have a water birth this time.

Although been having nightly dreams about needing a C-sec due to baby being transverse!

IVEgottheDECAF · 27/04/2019 16:06

I think it might be the wires. But then i have no issues having a monitor strapped to me! God knows!

I have never fancied a birthing pool. Infact i got in the bath in labour with dc3 and could not get back out quick enough, literally nearly fell out. It was not nice.

I am at risk of a transverse baby / unstable lie. Apparently baby may use my over worked uterus "like a hammock"

TwittleBee · 27/04/2019 16:08

I think it's because I know baby is lying transverse now, which I know means nothing pre 26 weeks anyway!

Isn't it so strange how different we all are! This is why Labours can't be prescriptive and go so differently!

I was desperate to get in the pool with DS but they wouldn't let me because of being pre term.

KLane · 27/04/2019 16:23

@twittlebee I have this one from Amazon: Babycare TENS Obi TENS Value Pack - Maternity TENS (www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AABHEJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1%29&ie=UTF8&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-birth-clubs-3566866-september-babies-thread-6-half-way" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AABHEJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

It works well as a TENS machine, but I couldn't get on with it during labour and think I started using it too far along. It was just a faff with the pads but I think I'd find that with any TENS machine. Also I was in and out of the pool. It has the booster button which apparently is good for labour.

Stroan · 27/04/2019 18:19

I can't find the one I had on Amazon, but I looked up the ones sold by a hire company and then bought it on offer.

I loved it, got me through 15 hours of contractions then used it with gas and air. The sensations distracted me and helped with hypnobirthing visualisations (not completely planned, they just kind of happened)

Stroan · 27/04/2019 18:32

One of the Mum's at DDs swimming lessons is an obstetric doctor at the hospital I'll be having this baby in. I was asking her what week they do ELCS, and she said definitely no later than 39 but as I have GD it's likely to be 38. So maybe a mid-August baby! Suddenly feeling a lot closer.

IVEgottheDECAF · 27/04/2019 18:41

One of mine was born at 38 weeks which would take me back into august too. Not sure yet if that would be a good thing or not!

Stroan · 27/04/2019 18:56

@ivegotthedecaf we're in Scotland so no school issues. I think I'm ok with a 38 week ELCS. I remember how huge and uncomfortable I was with DD, and with the gestational diabetes I'm a bit worried this one will be even bigger. Mentally I found those last few weeks tough as I was completely done with being pregnant.

IVEgottheDECAF · 27/04/2019 19:01

Oh i am sure i will be well and truely ready for baby to come by 38 weeks! Its just the school thing

TwittleBee · 27/04/2019 19:01

Ah brilliant, I've got quite a list of tens machines to look at now. I asked on Childbirth board too. Thank you! Hope they do work for me as otherwise it will just be water or nothing (Unless I have another epidural).

DS was born at 37 weeks which would take me into Aug! So really am prepared for an August baby.

Stroan · 27/04/2019 19:03

@ivegotthedecaf the school thing seems so bonkers to me. No child goes to school younger than 4.5 here and we can defer if they are born in Jan or Feb. Going at just turned 4 seems SO young.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 27/04/2019 21:41

My 'consultant' appointment was infuriating. At some point in the system it had been changed so I saw a midwife. Who said that I was too complex a case for her to give an opinion on and I would need to see a consultant!! So that combined with having already been sick 3 times that day made me get in the car and cry 🙈 Just so tired atm!

DustyDoorframes · 27/04/2019 23:05

@Littlehouseinthebigcity what a pigging pain!!!!!!!!!! Did you manage not to tell back YES I KNOW THATS WHY I HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE BLOODY CONSULTANT!!!

TwittleBee · 28/04/2019 02:48

Oh Littlehouseinthebigcity I'd have done the same with the crying (without being pregnant!) As it's so bloody frustrating! Hope they do not make the same mistake.

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 06:12

littlehouse that is annoying!

We have a poorly dc here. Four lots of sickness overnight. So i have a LOT of washing this morning and a sad little boy Sad PLUS i am very very tired

BonnieSeptember · 28/04/2019 11:01

Does anyone have experience of epidurals? Before I was pregnant I always thought it was a no brainer to get one as tolerance for any funny business down there is very low (I'm a pass out during a smear test kind of gal) but since looking into it more its obviously not as straight forward as made out on TV haha!

Would be interested to hear some real life experiences if anyone would like to share?

DancingUnicorn1 · 28/04/2019 11:38

18 weeks today... still being sick in a morning, still no bump, only felt what might have been movement once... anyone else got to this point and still doubted they really were pregnant? Scan isn't until 21 weeks so still 3 to go!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 28/04/2019 11:44

@BonnieSeptember I had an epidural the first time round (induction drip, back to back labour, constant monitoring so strapped to bed and couldn’t move around anyway). Not at all painful - barely felt needle going in. I really liked it, particularly as you can control how numb you go - you have a button to press to top it up yourself. I liked still being able to move my legs.

I would have needed one anyway as DD moved positions at v last minute and so I had to have forceps to turn her/be prepped for an EMCS if that hadn’t worked. But helped that it was already in.

I’d have one again in a heartbeat if needed. Only downside is the catheter x

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 28/04/2019 11:46

Just see how you go though. I have read horror stories of women wanting one and being denied one as too far along/anaesthetist being unavailable, but I asked and 5 minutes later he popped round

TwittleBee · 28/04/2019 12:00

I think it's really 50:50 Maybe with epidurals, I've read a split on good and bad experiences BonnieSeptember . For me, I shall be doing everything I can to NOT have another one.

TwittleBee · 28/04/2019 12:00

Hope the sickness soon passes and isnt spread among you all too IVEgottheDECAF !!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 28/04/2019 12:06

@TwittleBee Can I ask why you didn’t get on with yours? Be good to hear the other side.

TwittleBee · 28/04/2019 12:16

The needle going in was completely fine, barely felt it and was super quick so that wasn't the issue.
It was being unable to be in any position other than on my back which was exactly what my body was telling me not to be like. I could still feel my right side, which I actually was grateful for as I knew when to push but it only heightened my feeling of needing to be in a different position.
I had a back to back labour so might be that, the position and the whole epidural issue but I was left with sciatica post birth and I still get flare ups now.
Plus the catheter left me with urinary issues and was horrible painful (which is why I'm terrified of needing a C-Sec).
I just felt totally unable to do anything my body was telling me to do and felt trapped in my own body.
And it ended in forceps which might have happened anyway but I'm aware that epidurals increase that risk.
Then DS was jaundice and again there is an increase with risk of that with epidural and forceps.

I know my sister had a similar experience as me too first time round.

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 12:44

I asked for an epidural in desperation with one of mine and was fobbed off that i didnt need it baby was nearly out. I was in labour hours more but tbh i am glad i didnt have it.

I had a catheter near the end of dc4s back to back labour and had no issues with that
