Is anyone else due in Jan 2020? My dates are a bit iffy 🤣 but I’m either due 30/12 or 2/1. Baby number 4 ( I swear we were stopping at 1). 🤣

Hi @Lawlor1994! Its my first pregnancy too and I think I must be due roughly the same time as you though won't know for sure until dating scan as I had a very long and irregular cycle. The only real symptom I've had is a dull cramping sensation which has been coming and going for about a week now, and slightly tender boobs, though neither of them are particularly different to standard PMT symptoms. Most of my friends say that morning sickness didn't start for them until about 6 weeks so we probably still have that to look forward to!

Maybenextmonth · 08/05/2019 08:12

Hi ladies, looking for a bit of reassurance please. Im 5+1 and I'm currently on holiday. Flew yesterday. I had mild cramping for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon and now this morning I have had a bit of blood. I don't really know what constitutes 'spotting' and the blood was brown and not red. Wasn't loads but now there is a bit of brown colour every time I wipe.

I've had a MC before and the cramping yesterday was nothing like my MC, although I MC'd at 9 weeks previously.

Any ideas if this might be normal or not? I'm a tad worried!

Maybenextmonth · 08/05/2019 08:15

@MrsH497 I've just noticed that you have the same as me! How are you today? I'm so scared.

@leclarke91 I've just seen your message to MrsH. How long did your spotting last?

Seahawk80 · 08/05/2019 08:42

Just wanted to say to everyone who has spotting that the best advice (although the hardest to follow) is stay away from google! I read hundreds of stories about it when I was spotting / bleeding on and off for weeks with my son and in the end nothing can affect the outcome. I got obsessed with finding positive stories and if I found a thread that amended badly I'd have to find 2 that didn't. I wish now that I had not wasted all that time. However I know that it is easier said than done! To be honest I'm quite anxious about it happening again and am on constant knicker watch. Even though it was ok last time it's just an extra worry and the last thing you want. Thinking of you all x

Maybenextmonth · 08/05/2019 09:08

Thanks @Seahawk80 , I totally agree. It's just helpful hearing other people's stories that might be going through the same now. I'm due a phone call with my specialist today so hopefully he will have some advice for me.

I am staying off google though. It does nothing but scare you.

BowiesJumper · 08/05/2019 09:31

@Maybenextmonth I had exactly that with my last pregnancy. Brown blood every time I wiped (I was going to the loo to check every 5 mins!). And then a couple of times red blood, which was a bit heavier (I was about 6 weeks then). I went to the EPU for reassurance and all was well, and it carried on until I was 7-8 weeks. All was fine though. I think it's very common.

leclarke91 · 08/05/2019 09:43

Hi @Maybenextmonth my spotting lasted about 2 days. I think it is very common in early pregnancy. I've read so many forums where lots of women have experienced the same thing and have had successful pregnancies. There seems to be a fair few of us who've experienced spotting and cramping in this thread alone.

leclarke91 · 08/05/2019 09:50

@Maybenextmonth I have just seen your message that you're also experiencing cramping. I honestly wouldn't worry about it at this stage. I had the exact same thing as you a few days ago. I am still a little crampy but brown discharge and cramps have subsided.
I actually spoke to 3 different midwives, one at EPU, one at GP and one at urgent care centre. They also said the exact same thing. That brown blood/discharge suggests that it is old blood. The cramping is also normal as everything is moving around and stretching to make room for the bubba. One midwife mentioned that a hormone called relaxin causes the ligaments to relax and can cause pain. I actually read somewhere that it is actually sometimes a GOOD thing (providing the pain isn't severe and not accompanied with heavy bleeding) to have some cramps because it means that your body is doing what it should be to prepare for the baby.
Also, my sister-in-law experienced period-like bleeding for 10 days at around 7 weeks and she carried my niece full-term. My niece is a healthy and happy 1 year old now 😊
Please try not to worry. I completely understand why you are, because I was crying and shaking when I saw the brown discharge. But apparently it's VERY normal during the first trimester. X

leclarke91 · 08/05/2019 09:51

@Maybenextmonth sorry, I forgot to add in my last message, that I could see you have been experiencing cramping AND spotting!

Maybenextmonth · 08/05/2019 09:57

Thanks @leclarke91 and @BowiesJumper I'm trying so hard not to panic. Being on holiday helps as I have to try and act normal around everyone. I've had a little bit of red blood also now this morning since writing my original post but very little cramping. A little bit but no more than I've had previously.

I know everyone is different but it really does feel good to hear some positive experiences and that this can be normal.

KMic · 08/05/2019 09:59

Hi everyone! There's another feed! I got mu BFP this morning! EDD 13th Jan ... beyond excited! Had a MMC earlier this year and this was our first month of trying again .. crossing everything that this one sticks!!

Symptom wise, only a few cramps so far - assumed I was coming on my period - which I obviously did not! Did a couple of tests at the weekend which were negative ... and when i still hadnt come on today I thought I would try again! :)

Congrats to you all! Fingers crossed for sticky babies all round!!

Duebabynumbertwo · 08/05/2019 10:18

Spotting can quite often be implantation bleeding (where the egg attaches itself to the uterus) which apparently is experienced to 1/3 of women.
I had this last week and thought it might be my period starting but it was light and only lasted a couple of days which prompted me to do a test!

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 10:35

@Bunnylover84 is it today you're at the doctors?

BowiesJumper · 08/05/2019 11:18

@Maybenextmonth I totally understand, I was exactly the same. The red blood panicked me. But try not to worry, and enjoy your holiday.

Congratulations @KMic

MrsH497 · 08/05/2019 11:35

@Maybenextmonth I squeezed out a wee when I got home last night from the parks (Disney!) I'd been drinking water all day and it was a nice dark line still. The spotting turned more watery brown as well. Did you mention flying as well? I wondered if the change in time zone also had an effect? It's so scary I was in bits yesterday morning convinced I was going to lose the pregnancy. @leclarke91 I really find that all reassuring I think being away makes it worse.

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 11:59

@MrsH497 that's a lovely line considering how diluted it was! I'm glad the bleeding has turned brown, that's a good sign. Enjoy Disney!! I'm very jealous

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 12:33

Right, got my midwife appointment for 29th when I'll be 9 weeks, she's asked me to do some research into NT test and decide if I want it, is anybody opting for it?

BowiesJumper · 08/05/2019 12:36

I thought the NT scan was standard? That's just part of the 12wk scan isn't it? Or are they doing something new with it?

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 12:38

@BowiesJumper she said it was optional 🤷🏼‍♀️

BowiesJumper · 08/05/2019 12:52

Oh I see! I think it's standard, but I guess you can opt out if you don't want it! It's just where on the scan they measure the fluid at the back of the neck as it can indicate a likelihood of having downs syndrome and some other chromosomal issues.

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 12:57

Ahh okay, so there's no risk in having it?

Bunnylover84 · 08/05/2019 12:59

@maybenextmonth I’m so sorry you’ve been experiencing spotting and cramping and it’s freaking you out. I’m totally with you- I’ll be 6 weeks tomorrow and for just over a week I’ve had spotting and sometimes quite bad cramping on and off. I also had a MC before Christmas so I think that makes it even scarier. Really reassuring to hear comments on hear from ladies who have gone through it previously and gone on to have healthy babies. I do feel for you the fact that you’re away at the moment. How long before you’re home? Maybe get the dr to do some bloods when you get back? That’s the route I’ve gone down and it really reassured me that my levels rose from 703 to 1700 in 2 days. Other than that it’s just a waiting game right now.. so tough! But hopefully you are having lots of lovely distractions on holiday! All the best!
@Daisymay25 seeing gp tomorrow morning. Will be good to chat through things and see what she says. Glad you have an app booked for 9weeks. Gives us goals to work to doesn’t it!

DaisyMay25 · 08/05/2019 13:08

@Bunnylover84 hopefully your appointment goes well tomorrow! It does indeed, I've got my scan tomorrow too so need to write down all the questions I need to ask them. Do you have your midwife appointment yet?

Bunnylover84 · 08/05/2019 13:16

@daisymay25 ooh scan tomorrow is exciting! Fingers crossed everything looking good. Let us know how you get on. Not got my midwife app yet- hopefully Gp will advise me tomorrow as not really sure how it all works!

Seahawk80 · 08/05/2019 13:37

@Maybenextmonth I had red blood on and off with DS, never more than spotting but a couple of times there seemed quite a lot and a couple of clots so red blood isn't always bad x
