Decided we were getting to full. Hope this works.

Hmm. That half-in-water birthing sounds interesting, loopymumsy. I'll see how it goes. In theory, the hospital here only lets you use the pool for labour pain relief, and tries to get you out before the baby emerges, but I know of several births actually in the pool.

Sparkly, your injections sound miserable. I hope you pass the GTT (glucose tolerance test. Mine involved drinking horrible stuff and having blood drawn 4 times over the course of about 5 hours, with no breakfast allowed beforehand. Did not enjoy it, but at least I don't have gestational diabetes). Bleh. Enough needles already!

sparklygothkat · 17/08/2007 22:42

Had the GTT this morning, had to stave myself from 10pm last night till 9am, had blood drawn, then that nasty lemon drink and had to wait 2 hours and have blood drawn again. I also had to do my Clexane injection while I was there too. And the steriod injections today too. Am home from the 2nd one now so at least it all done with now and I will not have to have that done again.

With DS I had 6 lots of steriods but recent evidence has shown that it can cause Cerebral Palsy if given too much, I often wonder if it caused DS' CP.

Can't belive I have made it to 28 weeks without being admitted at all, I feel great!!

Yes a lovely feeling, considering the stress we have all been under this week, its amazing that its not triggered contractions, like in previous pregnancies.

The royal mail want prove of cost of the seat now, I sent that with the Prove of postage, but apparently its got lost they are really dragging this out.

ara · 18/08/2007 10:37

argh, when do you get this gtt? my midwives haven't mentioned it to me yet, probably in case i do a runner. I am currently being made to watch a training video for nurses on how to administer injections - they think it will help as i am severely phobic and need the anti-d very soon. my booking bloods were a disaster - i ended up having a general anaesthetic after about 8 hours of trying to just steel myself and get on with it. big claps to you SGK, i really admire you for getting on with it all.

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 10:46

I feel sick and sweaty just before anything with needles, so blood tests, and injections, but injections are my worse fear, which people find highly funny because I have piercings But even though I love my piercing it takes me weeks to steel myself enough to do it IYKWIM. The steriod injections were my biggest fear because I have had it done before lots, but one nurse really hurt me when doing it in a previous pregnancy, and since then I hate them. Yesterday's nurses were very good, and only have one small bruise.

iris66 · 18/08/2007 11:17

Hi everyone and welcome Maddy

aikigypsy - brilliant news about your GTT

SparklyGithKat - fingers crossed yours will be ok too

ara - GTT (glucose tolerance test) is what you get sent for if either you have, either a family history of diabetes or, glucose/protein showing up in your urine samples that you take to MW. Once the placenta takes over fully it can affect your ability to deal with sugar so if you test positive you have to either adjust your diet to low sugar and/or inject insulin. It usually goes after you deliver. I had diet controlled diabetes last pg & go for my second GTT on monday

I had an awful dream last night. DS was taken by some bigger boys and they pierced his ear with a really fat hoop. I was hysterical in my dream screaming at DH to go to see their parents but he just kept saying that it wasn't a big deal (he really wouldn't be like that in RL!!) I woke up in tears it was horrid. I seem to remember having nightmares when pg with both the other 2 - oh joy. Roll on November

ara · 18/08/2007 11:17

poor thing - i can really sympathise - you are v brave to get on with it all. blood tests are my worst fear rather than injections, but i am still totally terrified even of them. i had a fit last time i tried to have one (in my early 20's) - sounds mental and i am completely normal about everything else in life but this is a real prob for me.

ara · 18/08/2007 11:22

ooh good luck with it iris - i am going to stop eating too much sugary stuff just in case (don't eat that much anyway) and my mw has said i shold take a low dos iron supp to try and avoid becoming anaemic so i shouldn't have to have that test.

sure they think i am going to be a nightmare at the birth but i am supremely confident about that - have a v high pain threshold after years of not having injections for things!!

I have been having WEIRD dreams this week too - do you think these are the famous 'pregnancy dreams'? none of them have been saucy (!) but all about dangerous or upsetting stuff?!!

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 11:22

With piercings the needle is push through and done with, but with blood tests and injections, its knowing its under my skin for ages that I hate... If you look at my profile pics, you will a huge bruise on my arm when I was taken to A&E early in the start of the year when I had a collasped ectopic pregnancy, and the nurse missed my vein and my arm blew up.

iris66 · 18/08/2007 11:23

That must be awful (it's clearly quite a common phobia!)Have you ever tried hypnotherapy or anything?

(god I feel awful today - like my period's about to start . Am downloading some stuff from itunes as DH ordered me to do nothing)

ara · 18/08/2007 11:25

eek i saw that..........
it's the going in and out bit i hate too - and having something stuck in my body like that!!!!

nuts, i know but i find it almost impossible to let someone do that to me.

my gp and mw's have been v patient though.

ara · 18/08/2007 11:27

poor you iris - i had a funny feeling like that in the week. think it must be all the extra weight maybe?

feet up and lots of rest are in order!

i tried hypno when i knew i would have to have the booking bloods - it was like magic for a week and then i steadily got really scared of it again and my actual appt was such a disaster i think it basically put me back to square 1.

fingers crossed this exposure thing works. it's really embarrassing actually because i am not remotely like this about anything else in life!

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 11:31

Just did my Clexan injection, still get sweaty and feel sick when doing it, but getting better at it, luckily its a tiny needle

ara · 18/08/2007 11:35

good for you - you are making me more determined to get the anti-d without a massive trauma!!

choudru · 18/08/2007 11:41

Sparkly - forgive me if you have mentioned this before but why are you having the steroid injections? I was given them when my waters broke with DS to mature his lungs. Are they giving them to you just in case you go into premature labour so that baby's lungs are developed?

I was 29 weeks yesterday so getting very close to the time I went into labour last time. Am over analysing every ache and pain!

Going to buy some kiddie hangers today - it is a key part of my organising the house. Once I have them, I can hang up all DS's clothes and hang up some of the baby girl clothes my sister gave me.

Has anyone found any good places to get some of those tops that open from the front to ease breastfeeding? Mothercare don't seem to have many. Just want something cheap for the hospital/to wear in bed when I get home.

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 11:45

Becuase of my history, having 3 premature births, the hospital thought that I should have steriods injections at 28 weeks, even if I have no signs of going into premature labour. Its just to be sure that if I do deliver early that his lungs are mature.

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 11:48

ara, I am crap with needles, but knowing I am doing this all for the baby, makes it a tiny bit easier..

iris66 · 18/08/2007 12:01

choudru - I never get on with BF tops so use boob tubes (a size smaller than normal - Peacocks have some BTW - 2 for £5) to wear below your boobs, tucking the top in under your bra a bit. It keeps your tum warm & covered & you can just lift your top up

ara · 18/08/2007 12:02

that's what i was hoping would happen too but i am ashamed to say it hasn't which makes it all the more dreadful.

oh well, fingers crossed for next appt anyway.

wow choudhru!! v organised. i can't wait to move house ---i am going to plunge myself into a buying frenzy!! having to wait till then as we have no space!

ara · 18/08/2007 12:03

top tip iris

just scouring ebay for all the lovely things we need!

MrsJetson · 18/08/2007 12:22

I'm glad others are having weird dreams too - why on earth the books say they tend to be on the saucy side I have no idea! I wish!! (A friend of mine told her PIL's about a dream she used to have with her DD2 but the dream was always with another woman - for weeks after the FIL used to sidle up to her and ask in a very strange manner 'so any more dreams????' How yuk!)

Two nights ago I dreamt solidly about guns, either me shooting or someone else shooting -- stupidly I looked at the meaning and the book said 'someone who loves you will do something awful, you'll end up with lots of problems and lawsuits!' Not sure I wasnt to believe that! The realistic answer would be we had been watching 3 episodes of The Unit - drama about the special forces in the US - obviously laden with images of guns. I'm hoping anyway. Another very common dream is about DH having an affair - apparently that means that I feel negative about myself. I think THAT is true.

Eventually found someone to give me the Anti D - should be today or Monday. Glad I'm having it done, but not looking forward to it! Girls with your GTT I'm sorry that you have to go through that!

Have you all sorted out your names for the LO's? We had decided but then we have really changed our minds and now have no idea! If she was going to be a boy - we would have no problem whatsoever - but with girls names we are blank! 11 weeks to decide I guess.....

Have a good weekend!

sparklygothkat · 18/08/2007 12:35

we don't know what to call our little boy either, still disagreeing on it

god only knows what we will call our LO - i have a long list but DP is convinced the right name will just come to him when he meets him/her!

i on the other hand would like to be a bit more prepared as its the kind of thing we would disagree about!!
