Hi all, I am knackered after last night's events..

Still have a terrible pain under my rib, I might have to see the MW tomorrow if it doesn't ease soon.

Done my injection today, without MIL, as we wanted to go out early, it wasn't that bad TBH.

Sparkly- fab news

loopy- mw seems to think that a cs can be controlled better and that there will abe a surgical team in the room if i have PPH. It was mentioned int he past- pre dd that they could give me drugs to make my blood clot but these can only be given for a few days so cannot be used with a natural birth. The obstetrician was anti a cs last time but he has now retired and also I have more serious problems this time.
Plus i'm so scared of something going wrong this time. It went wrong last time and I ended up with a massive bleed- if it's worse this time the consequences could be a hell of a lot more serious

sparklygothkat · 15/08/2007 20:34

Loopy I recieved a letter last week, saying they wanted the car seat and the packaging, so sent that to them, then I recieved a letter on monday saying they wanted a reciept, ebay invoice or paypal page, I phoned them and told them AGAIN that I didn;t have that info as a friend sent me the seat, so hopefully they will stop going on about a receipt. I must phone them again tomorrow to make sure that they are not going to close the claim.

Morning all it's just taken me aaaaages to catch up!!

Welcome nicola Don't envy you the commute and long days. I used to work before DS but never quite got back into it. I'm lucky I have the option not to work at the moment and they're only little once. I figure it's too short a time with too much to miss.

Sparkly!! just saw the news about your BIL fab!!!! You all must be so relieved! congratulations.

Loopy - which pool have you got?

Littleoldme - I'm impressed I've heard that squares aren't difficult once you get the hang of them (and soooo mcuh cheaper than shaped!!) I had them for DD but they never got used which sort of put me off. We use reusables and will do so again for LO (though I'm not looking forward to having 2 in them!)

RGPargy - no poo smells from nappy buckets here either It really is no more difficult than using disposables but you don't have to lunk huge packets of them back from the shops and you don't have to put up with that disgusting chemical "fragrance" - eau de nappy sack [bleaugh] We used disposables for the first couple of months with DS whilst we got the hang of things and cloth is deffo easier - not that I'm on a mission to get you to try them or anything (though if you get the urge many local councils do "try before you buy" packs now to encourage it (and money back when you buy!!)

Pixiefish - I hope the hospital can allay your fears (rescue remedy and the homeopathic remedy aconite are good fear relievers )

Mrs Jetson - long time no see how are you settling into your new house?

Easywriter - what a night you had with your sleepover Have you (and the house) recovered? How's your bump now too? It's horrible when you forget your size and move as if you're not pg isn't it.

LizzieO - re wriggly LOs. My personal, and very scientific, research suggests that in utero wrigglers are indeed very active babies once born. I hasten to add that my research only covers my own children ; DD - gentle roller in utero and calm baby/toddler; DS - kickboxing expert in utero (I used to say he had an asbo waiting ) and very much a live wire now at 19mths. Current LO rivals DS on the activity front but I'll have to let you know what he/she's like once born. Of course it could be a gender thing (more testosterone=more activity) or merely the fact that I've no stomach muscles left and so can feel them move more

Going to push off and do some ironing now rather than waffle further (and it's not even 5 o'clock yet! [groan]) thankfully Dh is off today so i may be able to go abck to bed once I've taken DD to collect her A level results [nervousexcitement emoticon] Catch you all later.

AnnainNZ · 16/08/2007 07:38

Just had a growth scan and all is good. they measured the baby's head, waist and legs and all the measurements were as they should be. The consultant thinks she wont need to see me again unless there are any problems, which is great, can just go back to my doctor. My top figure on the bp reading was 140 though, it was 120 3 weeks ago so that was a bit of a jump but she said not to worry too much - everything else looks good.

Hope everyhone else feeling OK today

littleoldme · 16/08/2007 08:07

Loopy - Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated as always. Two of my friends have just had nightmare inductions so I want to avoid if at all poss.

Revel - Sorry to hear you have mumps. I had glandular fever and found that ice packs tied round my neck with scarves really helped. Hope it eases soon. DON'T GO NEAR GOOGLE!!!!!

Slept loads better last night although did wake up having dreamed I was in labour. It was only LO having a wriggle though. have found concentraing on pelvic floor exercises makes me nod off

Easy - Was telling Dh about your sleepover traumas. He told me a tale to make your hair stand on end. When he was six a group of them were playing in a friend's garage where there were a couple of cars waiting to be fixed and sold. To cut a long story short they found a trolley jack and tipped one of them over " by accident"!!!

Anna- glad the scan went well

Physio and A level results today. Not sure which is going to meore painful.

DD's in at Leeds Met !!!! yay! 2 A's and a D Ooh I'm such a proud mummy!

Anna - fab news about the scan! All you have to do now is chill until the big day

Loopy - I think that's what I'll go for (but the smaller one - I'm only 5'3) I got a second hand one last time & sold it in a fit of pique as I was told I "couldn't" have a home birth, let along a HWB. Am going to go for it this time though (thanks to your excellent resource links and advice ) Just need to find a doula now. I've looked on the Doulauk site but don't feel drawn to anyone so I may yet ask my homeopath (also a longstanding friend and holistic healing tutor)

Silkcushion - pelvic floor reminders are so necessary I keep looking at the Tenalady packs in the shops and thinking "perhaps I should buy some just in case" Noooooooooooooooooo!!

iris66 · 16/08/2007 10:02

Anyone else getting braxton hicks already? I didn't really have any until quite late before. Early is normal isn't it?

nicolatabb · 16/08/2007 10:21

Wow, pelvic floor reminders are such a good idea.

Did anyone see that article on the news yesterday about how eating junk food during pregnancy can pre-dispose your baby to a junk food addiction? I really hope that it's wrong - I've had such terrible cravings for plain salty food that I think my chip consumption must have trebled. I'm getting the guilt a bit now though because I don't want my child to be obese.

I can't really see the logic behind the baby wanting to eat chips because I do. My view was that as long as I ate all the right things (calcium, fruit and veg etc) and avoided the pregnancy evils (blue cheese and sushi)then all would be well. I'm starting to question myself now though.

sparklygothkat · 16/08/2007 10:23

iris I have been having BH for a few weeks now, and they can be quite painful sometimes (if I am stressed)

iris66 · 16/08/2007 10:35

nicola - it's so easy to beat yourself up (mainly because there are so many "helpful" professionals only too willing to pass you a big stick to do it with )

I would think that the extra salt will, if anything, just make your kidneys work harder. Don't feel guilty. I'd bet your diet as a whole is fine.

The bit I saw on the news said that the data was flawed since those mothers whose diets were mainly junk in pg would then go on to feed their kids junk anyway, so of course they're more likely to have a problem!!

Sparkly - glad I'm normal though mine aren't really painful...yet.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 12:13

Hi everyone

We've decided we're going to hire our pool rather than buy one. There's a place i googled yesterday that do them for £195 plus £35 courier each way and £20 for the "optional" kit (that you really do need!), so in total about £290 for 5 weeks hire. Quite expensive, but not too bad either really, IYSWIM. If anyone's got any more info or knows anywhere cheaper, please let me know!

I'm still not convinced about reusable nappies. It's the "shoving it down the toilet" thing that really puts me off! I think i would be sick!!! Our toilet is crap at flushing anyway (no pun intended there) so i would hate to be flushing it loads more than usual. It takes about 3 flushes to completely get rid of an adult's "number twos". It's an awful loo!!

Haven't been having any BHs yet AFAIK. I'm not totally disappointed about that.

I agree that the junk food in utero theory is utter crap because at the end of the day, when baby comes out, you feed them good nutritious food and dont continue the junk do you?

Iris - great news about the A levels!

sarahloumadam · 16/08/2007 12:52

Hello! Thanks for the reminder re pelvic floor - I have been slacking in more ways than one .

Research re obesity based on rats ffs and I refuse to believe I have much in common with a rat (apart from a fondness for junk food it seems!) Anyway if it makes you feel better Nicola I have been consuming my own body weight in biscuits, especially the extra chocolately ones from M&S. My thighs are huge!

I have been having lots of BHs, especially when I move suddenly, not painful but a bit alarming!

Have started taking a extra pillow to bed to shove under bump, when I got up in the night for the loo and came back to bed, DH was cuddling pillow and would NOT let go! Kind of cute but v.typical!

Is there a glossary for all the shortened words you all use? I'm beginning to get the hang of some of them but not all.

Iris - congrats on DD's success! Just goes to show the worry doesn't stop at junk food during pregnancy/having inductions/using disposable nappies. We'll be worrying for the rest of our lives about exam results, unsuitable boy/girlfriends etc etc.

What are we getting ourselves into?!

Welcome to Leeds to your DD - have only lived here for 8 months but I already love it. It's a great city

Littleoldme - I am not worthy. Have memories of mum using the square terry's nappies - think I will be using disposables for first month or 2 and then trying out some reusables. Leeds council do the try before you buy thing by the way.

I would like to join you ladies who can't sleep at night. I fall asleep ok and then wake up at about 5am worrying about everything baby related. I have decided to put off potty training DS (he'll be 2.5 when baby arrives) until after baby is 6 months. Will make DS 3 years old which I think is still reasonable (please correct me if I'm wrong!).

It's just too much to worry about right now. Have any of you with older children got any words of wisdom? It should only take a week apparently to train him but somehow I can't see it being that straightforward!

The nursery is looking much cleaner now that I have put away most of the clothes that were strewn all over the floor. I even bought some newborn nappies the other day - Tesco have a third off all nappies at the moment!

Also bought some cheap knickers from Tesco - the basic ones that look grey even before they have been washed a million times.

Need to get breast pads and maternity pads next. Have heard tommee tippee do the best breast pads because they are very discreet and stick to your bra, and apparently Sainsbury's do maternity pads with wings which makes a big difference.

Another thing - if you join the Tesco mother and baby club you get a voucher for a little basket with some baby goodies in it.

Right, me off to put some more clothes away.

Not had any BHs myself - didn't realise they started so early!

MrsJetson · 16/08/2007 14:28

Iris - Congrats on dd's results. Great news! The house move didn't really happen as planned - we exchanged a week late but then the owners decided to have another 2 weeks to clear everything out which meant we got the keys 5 days before flying back here. Still we got our all of our belongings out of storage, found a guy to do all of the painting in our absence etc. I have bought most of the curtains/blinds for him to also put up before we get back so we should have the basics for a couple of days at least. Very exciting though.....

Sparkly - great news re your BIL - haven't read the update but knew he was due to have the op. Hope all are well. x

No BH but bloody awful backache it goes down my left side to behind my thing and all the way up to my shoulderblade! To make matters worse I got stuck on teh computer yesterday because I was in too much agony to move - the kids have ended up with a lot of very nice Winter clothes from the Boden website though oooops!!!!

I'm having weekly massages to try and relax the muscles - I would hardly say that they are a luxury though - sooo painful I feel like crying, but it does help - I think.

My MW asked me again if I had thought any more about a home birth - quite honestly it frightens the hell out of me but I suppose if needs must...! Oh bugger..I really don;t want to be thinking about that. 11 weeks and 6 days to go - not that I'm counting or anything!!
