Morning all! Spud - enjoy your holiday, I'm very jealous!

Also been watching heroes, although watching it on Weds nights which I think is either 1 week ahead or 1 week behind the ones you're watching beller! I'm really enjoying it so far, although some bits can be a bit gruesome...

I've had leaky boobs (very leaky to be honest - started sleeping on a towel at night) and movements from around 16 weeks. I don't have a line, but I have a very hairy belly, and the hair on that line has gone quite dark. I think its generally darker skinned people that get the lines than freckled people like me!

As for weight gain, I lost 9lbs in the first 14 weeks, and I've since put on 6lbs, so still a net loss! I'm also a bit of a chunky monkey so could easily not gain any weight and baby would be fine. Unfortunately my appetite has gone mad recently, so I've given up any hope of being slim and sylph-like after the birth! Having said that, no part of me is getting fatter other than my belly, if anything my hips and thighs have still got smaller since I've been putting weight on, so maybe it is all baby! Well, baby and boobs and blood etc etc

Bah need to get back to work

Bettymamma · 07/08/2007 10:23

Ah scampynoodle you have made my day start with a giggle! 'does it depend on how much pork you are carrying' hehehe. Its to do with the pigment of your skin and your family heritage I believe (even tho I know red heads who have got it).

Jaffa cakes are healthy aren't they? They contain orange so they must be!

LouiseSJ - i think that could be the baby moving. Its like a butterfly flying on the inside of your tummy. We shouldn't lie on our backs I believe cos of something to do with the placenta and getting oxygen to the baby or something. It also hurts my back!

angelcake99 - my sis had high downs results and her midwife said - lay out (in your case) 110 cups and hide a ball under one of them. Now mix them up and pick up one of those cups - how likely is it that you've picked the cup up with the ball under it? I hope this makes sense - basically, its still not very likely. This really reassured my sis.

MotherofZ - my feet are definitely larger at the end of the day. Make sure you put yours up! I have put on 10lb so I'm catching up with you. Were we not skinny minnys beforehand!!

Beller - everyone keeps going on about heroes what is it?

Mixedmama - sorry to hear your still have sickness what a bloomin' pain. Hope it improves at some point. Expecting a fun day at work today?? I'm moving desks today - oh joy!

From what I recall, you shouldn't like on your back because the uterus will press against the inferior vena cava that takes blood down to your legs. I don't think it has a bad effect on the baby, just means your legs go to sleep!

I've woken up in the night a couple of times after lying on my back, tried to go to the loo and had to wait for the circulation to return to my legs first! I would absolutely love to lie on my tummy again, unfortunately its really uncomfortable now, which makes reading in bed a bit of a pain

PinkElephant · 07/08/2007 10:46

Oh ladies - how I've missed you all!!! You forget what a good place this is to chat when you've not been here for a while. MotherofZ, Beller, MrsMc, Barristermum and mixedmama thanks for all your support, Dad has been ill for a while but is quickly deteriorating now and its heartbreaking to watch.I was worried yesterday from all my tears whether it would make my little beanie sad too, but I just can't stop crying, I'm guessing it must be hormones making me even more tearful. I just wish I could see them more as I'm 200miles away and the distance feels further than ever right now

Anyway on a brighter note about my bump . I haven't felt a movement as yet, I'm 17wks - has anyone else felt anything at this stage? I listened to the heartbeat with the midwife last week which was fab. I've still got very sore boobs but no leakage as yet. Nausea has all gone but still have banging headaches all day everyday and am shattered still.

LouiseSJ · 07/08/2007 10:48

Good morning everyone.

Angelcake99 I can understand your worry but I think Bettymamma's 110 cups story must be reassuring for you.

I decided not to have the blood test because I knew that if it showed a risk I would worry about it. If there is a high risk you can have the amniocentesis but the risk of miscarriage is 1 in 100. So that risk is higher than the risk of the baby having downs! However, now that everyone is talking about their blood test results, I am starting to wonder if I should have had it just to put my mind at rest. I really don't know what's best. Has anyone else decided not to have the test? And if so do you feel happy with your decision?

LouiseSJ · 07/08/2007 10:53

Pinkelephant - such sad news about your dad. It must be so hard to cope with especially at a time when you should be happy and excited.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 10:54

I did think about not having the test as I had the bloods taken quite late and by the time they came back and whatever else I questioned whether I would be able to make an informed decision at that stage in my pregnancy. Would I even have the amnio? |DH was adamant that he would want to know so i conceded and had the test and at 19 weeks still have not been given my results.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 10:57

Pinkelephant - this pales in comparison to what you are going thru and i wasnt pregnant at the time, but my dad had a stroke a few years back and I spent alot of time wrestling with feeling useless and it didnt help that I couldnt even look him in the face and hardly spoke to him cos it was just too hard. Felt crap all of the time and hated myself during that time. I really hope that you start to feel a bit better and try to focus on the baby with your dad as i am sure he would love to be involved and take his mind off things.... i know he is very far away but could you pperhaps include him on a scan, he could bond with his grandchild a little.

MotherofZ · 07/08/2007 11:03

Pinkelephant - I know how hard it is to be living miles away from your family, same here all my family are miles away in London and see them every 4-6 weeks. I usually call them everyday - not the same as being there but it helps to hear their voice.

Re test: never had the test done - hubby and I decided that whatever would be, would be.

Bettymama - I've put one 1 STONE ! I was a lovely 8 stones and a bit before.

Was moaning to my hubby last night saying I can't understand how these celebrities stay so thin while pregnant???

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 11:06

MotherofZ I have the answer re: celebrities. Money, money and money, personal trainers, nutritionists etc.

MotherofZ · 07/08/2007 11:12

i would have thought they might ahve chilled out a bit being pregger and all.....

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 11:14

As if that is the time they have even more to prove isnt it.... did i mentioned nannies etc so they can do personal training afterwards to be size zero again straight after, can you tell that i am a bit of a fatty at the moment.

MotherofZ · 07/08/2007 11:21

more like liposuction...

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 11:23

post c section - just extend the op. might consider that myself if we get a girl...mmmm can just imagine DH saying yes to that.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 11:25

maybe if i just make an effort to lose the bulk of it then that nasty overhang bit I can sweet talk hubby for lipo....dont think i could ever really do it.

has anyone on here had any cosmetic surgery out of interest??

MrsMcJnr · 07/08/2007 11:48

Mixedmama & Barristermum ? sorry your MS is still bad; I get waves now but nothing like before.

Mixedmama ? not all the celebs stay slim, some just hide for months! but the brave ones like Davina and Catherine Zeta Jones got pretty large and were proud of it I haven?t had any surgery but if they were in there anyway, I wouldn?t be adverse to some liposuction ? not sure they?d do that on the NHS though!

Barristermum - you sound like me I was carrying more than I should have when I got pregnant too and I think alcohol (and that bug I got) have contributed to my 7 pound loss too. Doubt it will continue knowing my luck!

Bettymama ? I?m sure the weight will catch up with me! Just eaten 4 Oreos, must try harder to eat better things (must also do pelvic floor exercises ? keep forgetting!)

Scampynoodle ? think the line depends on pigment, I am quite olive skinned and my skin is much darker than usual (which is nice as I look like I have a tan (or jaundice ) but no line, I think that?s odd! Those feelings sound like the way early movements are described in what I?ve read ? MWs seem to think it makes you feel better to be told that you couldn?t possibly be feeling what you think you are

Cazzybaby ? gradually I think

Hey Fruitful ? welcome back hope you had a good time sorry about the bleeding, always worrying when pregnant even if it?s for no apparent reason.

LouiseSj ? could well have been I?ve read it described that way. Apparently we shouldn?t be sleeping on our backs because the added weight and blood mean that our aortas and vena cavas are compressed and the baby gets less oxygen ? for my part ? it also meant I was beginning to snore. Last night took measures to make sure I didn?t sleep on my back and slept really badly and today I have a bad back so hoping that it?s a myth! Think sleeping on your belly is ok as long as you are comfy. We opted for no screening though we did go for a private nuchal scan as the outcome for Downs is more accurate than the normal test without being invasive. We did this because we read that you can see less markers for Downs on the detailed later scans then you can for the other conditions. That said, had the risk come back high, we wouldn?t have had an amnio or considered a termination so in some ways, having that screening test was pretty pointless. The thing with screening is that you have to decide where you would want to stop and then trace it back to decide if it is even worth starting it, from what you have said, it sounds to me as if no testing was the right choice for you.

Thanks Spud01 complicated naming going on there! Have a great holiday!

Angelcake99 ? thanks for the survey results sorry to hear that your Down?s risk came back high, hope it is just one of those things that has been estimated wrongly, fingers crossed that all goes well at the Consultant. Keep us posted. The cups visualisation is a great one x

Mummy2tolittleprincesses ? nice names I knew a Courtney once, gorgeous little girl with red curls, freckles and chocolate brown eyes ? I met someone recently at a wedding who had 2 girls called Lauren and Holly!! Don?t think she was pg though, are you in Scotland?

Gingeme ? hello! I think it?s that fact that we?re stuck at our desks and know the washing is still at home to be done. I also have a perverse joy in watching it on the line drying ? not a usual occurrence up here though! Sorry about your veins, I have a friend with a similar one in her thigh ? it visibly pulses! suspect I?ll need the stockings before long too, I?m keeping a close eye on the VV in my calves.

Hello Beller thanks for the answers I love Heros. DH was watching football at a neighbour so we?ve recorded it for tonight. It doesn?t seem to matter what I watch, I still have nightmares and really vivid dreams. I used to sleepwalk when I was younger but haven?t done it for years. Done it recently?

MotherofZ ? thanks. My feet were swollen on Sunday seem to have gone down a bit now. My theory was that I didn?t drink as much water as I usually do on Saturday and that that might have caused it, I normally drink tons.

Naetha ? hello!

Hello Pinkelephant we are here for you hon. I?m not sure if I?ve had movements or not (I?m 17 weeks today) we heard the heartbeat with the MW last week too it was fab! My boobs have definitely grown the last couple of weeks; I think I?ll need some new bras soon. I?ve noticed more veins in them and on my arms too, its amazing all the changes isn?t it? So sorry about your headaches I?ve had a few and they are horrible so I really feel for you, the crying won?t help either hang in there x

beller · 07/08/2007 12:31

Naetha- I watched 3/23 last night...was very gruesome at the end...will have to save them till during the day at weekends i think!

Betymamma- It s a tv show on bbc2....abou these people that find out they have special powers etc....sounds worse than it is..quite good actually, but spooks me, which dosnt take much!

Pinkelephant- I had headached everyday as well.. they seem to have gone in the last week (touches wood), my sister was the same, and they dissapeared around the same week (19+4 now)..hope they go soon xx

Mrsmcjnr- I was under the London Sleep Centre about 2 1/2 years ago....still sleep walk and can get quite bad when stressed...never hurt anyone else, but have torn ligaments etc....I can usually tell when im sleepwalking from how tired i am..as you dont sleep properly, but im tired all the time at mom! hahaha
Im just back from the gym, and definately have the dark line appearing...I am quite olived skined though..so was maybe expecting it?!

Have been thinking more about my name dilema, and hadnt thought about my mums maiden name, that gives me 3 possibilitys now!! What to do......... As my mum died when i was 21 would like her remembered in some way, but thats a bit difficult as her name was Robina! Dont think I will inflict that on my child (especialy if a boy!) as a first or middle name!

MotherofZ · 07/08/2007 13:32

mrs mcjnr - u must be exhusted after that long posting.
As usual nice of you to remember everyone.

Never had comestic surgery - but if i did have the money or if the NHS ever did decide to give women who had just given birth, free liposuction, i would go for it! Think it will be back to the gym after LO is born.

gingeme · 07/08/2007 15:06

Afternoon ladies. Have you ever seen someone having lipo suction done? Its gross!!
Yes my veins are pretty sore and there are a lot of them but they are only behind my right knee. Doc said as long as they are not hard or stringy they are fine. Just a result of extra blood and softening ligamints and extra eastrogen. Im to keep it moving and when Im resting to circle my foot every now and then. No groovy stockings for me this summer thank goodness
Feeling very tearful today. Weather its because my boys are going home tomm or because I had a big argument with my 13 year old this morning or just general lack of sleep not sure but I sat in the bathroom this morning and had a good bawl and felt a litle better.
Oh well lo needs a bum change.
Ta ta for now.

beller · 07/08/2007 15:09

Hi Gingeme- sometimes it does you good to have a good old cry....Your boys are going home? Sorry a tad confused?
Have a hug (((((((((Gingeme)))))))))))

gingeme · 07/08/2007 15:44

Thanks beller. My two older boys are from my ex. Thay have lived with him since last August. They moved to Scotland this January and have been with me for 3 weeks of their summer hols.
Just two little ones at home now till this next one comes along.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 15:51

That must be so hard gingeme. how do you cope.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 15:53

sorry just read that and feel a tad insensitive.... please ignore me

gingeme · 07/08/2007 15:57

What with two little ones or the big onews being away?
I just cope best I can with the little ones. As for the big ones we have web cam and MSN and the phone. Its not as hard as I thought it would be. Plus my ex and I get on okish most of the time. They are doing brilliantly up there and they live right next to the sea. They love it
