Mrsmcjnr- I really dont know..im having a whole host of problems with the name thing....he hasnt shown any interest in scans..how i am..the baby in general..so why should he get a say on names...but thats the least of my problems..my surname at the moment is my old married name...wanted to keep that as my maiden name is my stepfathers, and for reasons too complicated and nasty to go into i didnt want to go back to, so do i give my baby my married name..its father name + married name double barrelled (does go), or we both change our names to my biological father ( i found him when i was 26, but have never been known as that name).....?! Really do need to sit down with XP and talk about it...but his ostrich impression is getting better by the week!
(sorry that turned out to be long!)

Bettymamma- most people are now convinced since tellign them the HB that its a girl...it really cant be that easy to predict though!!?

Im bored at work too today....australian and canada holiday which makes it double zzzzzzzz
xx

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 12:49

ladies I am in a temp assignment as a switchboard operator.... I answer calls and transfer them ALL DAY LONG. I dont think anyone can beat that. Never done purely switchboard work before and certainly wont be doing it again anytime soon.

barristermum · 06/08/2007 13:10

Motherofz - try Haymax - you can get it at healthfoody places, it works on Mrs McJnr's vaseline principle but there are added oils and things in it - you just smear (like lip salve) a little under your nostrils and it acts as a barrier apparently. I have some and whilst not as brilliant as Clarityn it certainly helps.

Naetha - sorry but I have heard Dillon used in that way and am not even yorkshire. It must be the high-class criminal company I keep or something! Having said that, it's a very rare usage and am sure ds could rise above it.

Beller, for what it's worth I absolutely do NOT think you ex should get any say in the naming. You are managing all by yourself and should NOT have to take his whims into account. As you are staring new job and generally a new life why not a totally fresh start for you and babybel if biological dad's name is pleasing to you?

Bettmama - glad you like erin, and I love Rufus, and have only known nice Rufuses - don't know what dh thinks about that one.
On the names front a friend has just called her little girl Seraphina - didn't really know what to say to that!

Mrs McJnr - am sure you were provoked at the station.

Watched Miss Potter last night - highly recommended for all ages. Really really cute little film - even won over dh who was most rebellious about sitting down to watch it!

Bettymamma · 06/08/2007 13:58

Barristermum - Seraphina! I've heard of that recently as well - how bizarre. It is an odd one. It's very difficult with names isn't it because if you say anything you can really upset people. A work colleague just told me Rufus is a dogs name. Nice! Miss Potter is a lovely film - and not at all related to Harry...

mixedmama - yes, your job sounds dull I do empathise. I'm in marketing which sounds fabulous but recently involves updating contact details. Yawn.

Beller - give the baby the same name as your surname (whichever you chose) and don't worry about XP who is a dufus (rhymes with Rufus!?) for not showing any interest. Just a mention, not that it matters, they will give your baby in the hospital your surname automatically even if your dp's surname is different. It's to help prevent them losing babies i was told!? (something I hope the nhs doesn't do often?)

MotherofZ - they banned MSN messenger!

I wish i had messenger.... am currently flicking through a preganancy magazine... here till 5 today.... so bored

Naetha · 06/08/2007 14:18

Hello all! Sounds like everyone had good weekends!

I'm actually feeling quite motivated today - just had a meeting with my manager which was all very positive (not that I'll get a pay rise or promotion before I go on Mat leave, but I can dream...) Had a good week at work last week, and got another good one lined up.

Having said that, I work as an environmental consultant and sometimes I find my work so incredibly boring (planning policy really isn't that interesting). I also help out in the office by answering the phones (everyone is meant to, but I'm the only one that does) and the idea of being a switchboard operator really appeals to me!

As for hayfever, I have been prescribed Acrivastine by my GP, and I've read up on it, and it is safe to take during pregnancy. You can buy it over the counter as Benadryl. You can also take Piriton. Its only Loratadine and Cetirizine (Di)Hydrochloride that you can't take.

After all the faff with Dylan, DH has completely vetoed it full stop, says he doesn't like it anyway (after earlier agreeing it was OK!) I think we're going to have to wait until he's born to actually decide on a name as DH changes what names he likes every week!

As for my name, I'm a complete geek, and this is actually my gaming name / character name from a load of games I've played! No special significance, just sounded good! I use it for all my forums, so it saves me forgetting my username all the time!

beller · 06/08/2007 14:20

Thanks re advice on name....i should think about taking my dads name...just seems weird as i have never been called it..but i suppose i was never called my maried name bfore i married! hahaha Just dont want to go through an indentity crisis the same time as a hormonal surge!...thinking cap is till on....but its a possibilty x

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 14:23

It is mind numbing Naetha and so much politics with 5 women working so closely together... so glad i am only a temp... only decided to accept this booking as I found out i was preggers so would fill the gap till oct.... great company tho.

Bettymamma · 06/08/2007 14:26

oh pregnancy magazines - I forgot about them - they're quite good aren't they. I was just about to ask you mixedmama if you had the internet - am i slightly mad???

Naetha - so i can take Benadryl? I've been suffering in silence at my mums with her EXTRA furry cats. Only gets bad when I'm pg!? Men and names - how infuriating are they!

Beller - you have a first name and surname choice. This could get tricky.

OP posts:
beller · 06/08/2007 14:28

Naetha - Must admit i felt better when i came into work today...slightly more motivated....lets see how long it last x

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 14:31

the thing is bettymama there is only so much you can look up on the net before even that becomes boring.

spud01 · 06/08/2007 14:31

hi everyone, hope everyone is well.

Well I told older kids the news last night about baby and they all took it really well, which is a huge relief. The only trouble is my dss Christopher wants a girl so baby can go in girls room and mess there room up for a change. My dd Laura wants another brother because she likes the one shes got and assumes baby would be same. Dsd wants a girl Kerianne wants a girl so baby wont be like ds Kieran. I had them laughing about it though, saying that the only way i keep them all happy is two have twins.

Beller - Im in the middle of surname issues too, my dd Laura has my ex husbands name on birth certificate, but is growing up with my surname. My ds Kieran was given my surname so my dd didnt feel left out, she was feeling really left out if Kieran got the same surname as Christopher and Kerianne. The trouble is what surname to give to this lo, because Kerianne has expressed her wish this one has there surname this time and i think dp would prefer it that way too. Anyway I think for yourself, I think it would be better to give the baby same name you decide to go by.

Sorry about the long post about my own situation

MotherofZ · 06/08/2007 14:31

bettymama - so is your DD really called Betty?

Bettymamma · 06/08/2007 15:04

She's called Betsy - my dh vetoed Betty.

Now my sis-in-law will be able to find me on mumsnet, track me down and tell my mum-in-law all the bad things i've been saying. My cover has been blown unless there are other 19 week pg mum's of Betsy's out there!

spud01 - go with kerianne's suggestion I reckon if your dp would prefer it too.

mixedmama - get on ebay its addictive.

Naetha · 06/08/2007 15:12

On the "which surname to go for" debate, personally I would give the child the surname of the person who is going to be their main carer. In most cases this will be you guys!

My 4 parents (including steps) have 4 different surnames and would have confused the hell out of me! My Dad brought me up, so I stayed with his surname and didn't change when my mum changed hers.

Getting a new boiler fitted today/tomorrow so it will be nice to have hot water on demand again! We had a combi boiler in our last house but only a hot water tank in this one and its SUCH a difference!

MotherofZ · 06/08/2007 15:12

oh we are a bored bunch at work....!

beller · 06/08/2007 15:14

Spud - i think i got a little confused there...so do 2 have your surname, and 2 have DP surname? I had my biological dads surname on my birth certificate..but grew up with my step fathers name....all ok til i went to get a passport, then had to change my name by deed poll to get one in name i had grown up with....Now because of what he has done i dont want it anyway hahahaha

I will definately give babybel my name what ever it is going to be ...but dont know for the babies sake whether he/she should have Xp name in there somewhere just to know roots? Although I will obviously tell him/ her about father if he chooses to stay away all together? Really need one more thing to worry about hahahaha!
Bettymamma- its doing my already muddles head in!

beller · 06/08/2007 15:25

Naetha- I have just had a combi boiler put in too...what a difference...and to the water pressure!

MrsMcJnr · 06/08/2007 15:25

Hey ladies I?ll have to not go to meetings, there?s so much to catch up on when you get back

Scampynoodle you are defo not alone here!

Bettymama ? was reading up on baby names at lunchtime in the book shop, DH says no to all of them :Boys: Reece/Rhys, Zane, Roan, Kenyan, Aubrey, Tate and Auden. Girls: Tamar, Inez and Sala. I LOVE Lola but DH says no (doesn?t want a DD who?s a showgirl?..!) work motivation rating today, less then nil

You sound sorted Angechica I might buy that book ?How to have a baby on ebay? and see what bargains I can get!

Gingeme ? glad you had fun! I?m like Mixedmama, washing sounds appealing right now!

Motherofz ? around the nose not up

Katyt1 ? hello!

Beller ? I see your dilemma. I know lots of people who changed their names to their mother?s maiden name when they got married or had kids for this reason. Another option! Sorry!

PMSL at competition to have the most boring job!

Barristermum ? I?ve known one Rufus and he was gorgeous thanks for the plea in mitigation there was a large queue of business people behind me in the station when I renewed my monthly season ticket, the woman behind the counter was being a muppet hence outburst one, then some suited male prat far back in the queue said loudly ?ridiculous renewing a ticket in rush hour? well, I glared at him and on my way out pointed out that there was no other time for business people to do so, to which he meekly retorted that he wasn?t talking to me to which I could only respond ?coward? before I sauntered off

Naetha ? I?d like some of your work enthusiasm please! You know, there is a section in a baby name book called Cool Names on game names to give your baby

Spud01 ? PMSL at the older kids reactions when my mum had my youngest sis, I was 10 and other sis was 8, I wanted a boy and she wanted a girl, she won and I didn?t care a damn as loved the new pink bundle so much all sounds really complicated about the name ? can you come up with an amalgamation of the two and all take that?

Are you all avoiding sleeping on your back now then? Read today that I should have stopped by now and DH says the last couple of nights I have snored!

scorpio1 · 06/08/2007 15:30

Mrs-i got a bfp!

PinkElephant · 06/08/2007 15:41

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for a while now due to lack of time and my emotional state!! My Dad is really poorly and I don't think I've cried as much as I have in the last 4 days. Will hurt my little 17wk old baby? I'm so worried something may happen to it or that it'll be born miserable if I carry on like this .

MrsMcJnr · 06/08/2007 15:41

Fab news Scoprio!! congratulations hon when are you due? come and join us on the TTC Graduate Thread in Pregnancy!

scorpio1 · 06/08/2007 15:43

in April sometime, too shocked to check yet!

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:49

Pinkelephant so sorry to hear about your dad. I dont think it will hurt your baby just try to make sure you eat.

MrsMcJnr - did you see how easily won the competition tho

Bettymamma · 06/08/2007 15:53

PinkElephant - sorry to hear that. I hope your dad improves soon. Alot of people have horrible things happen whilst they are pg. Babies can be very resiliant i think and are probably used to coping with our emotions whilst in our tummys.

Scorpio1 - we were on ttc together for a while. Congratulations, lovely news. Do you still have that fab handbag?

MrsMcJ - fabulous names! I know a Zane and a Tate. Lovely boys. Would not like to get in argument with you! Sounds like you'd eat me for tea.
