MrsMc - what a condescending thing to say! I think you have a v legitimate reason to ask about Group B Strep testing and I think everyone should be aware of it - something like a quarter of people harmlessly carry it, it only causes a problem in a handful of those who have it, but the consequences can be awful so why not have a no-risk test? If she won't do it I think you can get them done privately for about £35 - try googling the Group B Strep support group they have loads of info. Might be worth asking if it is something tested for on the labour ward - one of our local hospitals has just changed its policy so they test every woman whose waters have broken before being in established labour - can be v significant if they get a positive and can give antibiotics in time. Anyway, rant over, if anyone has any questions I know a bit more about it but I think we all have enough to worry about at this stage as it is!

Am trying to enjoy the sunshine - have thoroughly cleaned DD1's bedroom today as she is on Scout camp this week, then she goes on hols with her dad for a week. Hope she doesn't get the hump that I've been through her stuff!

Housemum · 01/08/2007 17:15

Re Ikea - I was going to do a link to the changing table/chest of drawers I had but they've stopped making it - it was a nice dark pine-colour chest of drawers with a top that flipped down to make a changing table, but when it's up it doesn't look like a changing table. The ones they have now are just the basic tables - but still would do the job.

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 17:18

MrsMc - birthplans.

I put so much effort into this last time, going to just try to go with the flow.

Am opting for birthing centre and asking to use the pool and asking them to offer DH to cut cord and that if i want pain relief I will ask for it, baby given straight to me. i have already typed it all up. Actually quite neurotic and had an incredibly boring day at work

MrsMcJnr · 01/08/2007 17:25

Took me so long to catch up that I?ve now crossed with some of you!

LouiseSJ ? I am with you, trying not to buy anything until after 20 week scan and will try not to find out the sex too! on the breast pad subject, my sis came to stay when DN2 was 6 weeks and left them all over the place, can?t say I didn?t find it a little unsavory!

Hey Barristermum ? we don?t really know what happened to Goingfor3 either ? so sad glad you enjoyed your holiday sorry to hear your MS is still around, mine was back yesterday but it?s not too bad today. Will your little one be Kazan then? I?m up for salt big time too, funny isn?t it? I know what you mean about the new born pampers ? I stared at that nappy for ages imagining a boty so small Thanks for your support ? I think given our profession we can?t help but want to get the facts! DH does know he is powerless to stop me!

Mixedmama ? how exciting - where are you having your 4d scan? If it?s at a Healthcare Now, I have a £50 off voucher you can have ? or anyone can have if they want it. Thanks for your kind words, I?m not really stressed out I just am a person who likes to know all things and it?s annoying when you feel that people are fobbing you off for wanting to know things or mocking you ? I?m a bit sensitive because it was only after I lost my last baby and after my own research that the discovery of my blood clotting condition was made, so I think knowledge is a good thing DH and I are off to see Josie Long in the Edinburgh Festival tonight so that should be good ? Beanie needs to hear more laughter!

Lilyloo ? I was told its ok to wear some underwired ones so long as the wire at the sides is on your bone as opposed to the fleshy bit. I love Bravissimo for their bras and service. I have this one ? very comfy and looks ok ? www.bravissimo.com/products/details.aspx?pid=KA17&colour=SHELL+PINK
I also have a black and a white one of these for everyday, very comfy!

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 17:28

Not sure where we are having it yet, just looking about... they said it is best at 26 weeks so will see how we go and that will be December, I really like the idea of having a DVD of the baby actually moving around.

MrsMcJnr · 01/08/2007 17:30

Thanks Housemum ? I?ve been onto the Strep B site. I think I?ll ask my consultant at my next appointment, see what she says. I do understand what they say about resources but as you say why not have a no-risk test? If I get no joy, I?ll consider a private one for peace of mind may come back to you on this Thanks for the Ikea info ? sounds good

Mixedmama ? your birth plan sounds good

Does anyone know how long they wait to cut the cord here? I?ve heard that the blood is really good for the baby and should be allowed to drain back into it before the cord is cut but on the programmes I?ve seen on TV, they cut the cord right away.

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 17:32

This time i am going to ask for the cord to stop pulsating as there is no real rush... also wanted to mention to my midwife about donating the cord blood... saw a poster at the hospital, dont know much about it but it seems like a good idea if it can do some good...anyone else know about this??

MrsMcJnr · 01/08/2007 17:48

There was a thread on here you could search for, basically, they have to cut it right away if you donate it so your baby doesn't get the benefit but of course someone else might - have a look at www.virginhealthbank.com and www.futurehealth.co.uk

Cazzybaby · 01/08/2007 17:59

MrsMc know how you felt about student midwife, I had one in at my last appointment I felt a bit wierd as she looked really really young!

Housemum · 01/08/2007 18:04

It's a shame they don't have a national scheme for collection of cord blood - you can go private, but I would happily donate it for others if only the hospitals would take it - I'm sure that I read somewhere that there only a handful of hospitals that collect it for nothing (obviously for blood bank use not your personal use)

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 18:35

It does seem a shame especially when you consider all the good it could do.

PinkPetal · 01/08/2007 21:54

Hi Everyone - i miss the juicy conversations as i can't log on at work.

Has anyone got any advice on early maternity wear - woke up yesterday and my whole stomach was rock hard, right up to above my belly button - very wierd. Can't fit into normal clothes but not big enough for maternity yet, any tips?

beller · 02/08/2007 08:17

Mrsmcjnr- You definately should have ben told about the student...quite rude at the very least! Telling you not to read anything on the net would have really wound me up too...ad they are trying to keep you calm!
Birthplan- I really want to try and avoid a c section and epidural at all costs if possible...apart from that will go with the flow hahaha...like mixedmama- baby straight on me, pool if possible..and still thinking of a home birth, but have to speak to MW.

Barristermum- glad you had a good trip, hope you feel better soon! x

Mixedmamma - thats a fab pressie! Great idea x

Lillyloo - I have gone up 2 sizes too....really hoping to keep them , but know its unlikely x
Hello everyone! Morning......

Technical friday for me today, Im off to Glorious Goodwood tomorrow...really looking forward to it, and supposed to be nice weather, so cool..

I think im still going to try to be strong and not find out the sex at my "23" week scan...I was watching a programme last night where a woman was told she was having a girl (95% sure), and she was thrilled, already had 2 boys...only to have a boy!!! Oops...room was pink...clothes were pink....know its the exception and not the rule, and luckily they laughed ( well for the camera anyway!) xx

beller · 02/08/2007 08:21

pinkpetal - I have bought some resonably priced clothes from New Look, have also bought from Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins, Blooming marvelous and Jojo mama bebe....Think blooming marvelous and Jojo mama bebe have sales online at mom, on selected stuff? Happy shopping xx

beller · 02/08/2007 10:33

oooh just got the doppler i rented for a month delivered at work....i couldnt resist giving it a go in the loos ...its fab!!! Heart beat 158-160...what a great sound!!!!

LouiseSJ · 02/08/2007 10:45

Oh beller that sounds really exciting! I want one of those.

I may have to have a c section. At my 12 week scan they discovered that I have fibroids in my womb. I will have to have an extra scan at 36 weeks to seen if they have grown bigger. If they stay the same I should be all right, if not I may have to have a c section. They say fibroids are quite common. Has anyone else got them?

Angechica · 02/08/2007 10:45

Looking at pushchair porn when should be working! Latest object of desire: they seem to cost a fortune new but some reasonable ones on Ebay:

Want that one!!

katyt1 · 02/08/2007 11:23

hi everyone, can't catch with everyone as rubbish at personals and have missed loads.

but...

re bigger boobs, not me! started 34a, only grew to 38a last pg, then 2 days after ds born, HUGE boobs! up to max 36/38d tho mostly a c cup.
then stopped b-feeding, boobs back to 34a, boo hiss.
now 15 weeks, still 34a, so think i will be the same, will have to wait til jan for the big ones again!

re birth plan; same as last time, home birth, gas and air, baby straight onto me, dh doesn't want to cut cord, so they can, but only when stopped pulsing.
all change if i'm overdue/induced/emergency c-s for some reason.

think they are the main topics at the mo, been up since 5.30 with ds, grrr, snacking on bombay mix, mm spicy!
had yummy prawns in garlic last night, plus a quick trip to the casino, where we won 200quid! hooray!

Naetha · 02/08/2007 11:37

Morning all

Has anyone found themselves worrying much more than they used to about really trivial stuff? I get really wound up about all sorts of things, such as when the cats don't come when called, DH's driving (bit of a rant thread about it here www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=7&threadid=365596&stamp=070802103058 , what me and DH eat (i.e. too unhealthy) etc etc. Its driving me a bit mad at the moment to be honest - I find myself getting wound up and in particular having a go at DH about the pettiest things, but I just can't help myself. I can't make myself be rational about these things.

gingeme · 02/08/2007 11:46

Morning ladies.
Katy1 your birth plan sounds similur to my last ds. Im having a hospital water birth as I did with ds3. Just water for pain relief cause Im 'ard I am
I picked up a real bargain yeterday. A Maclaren twin buggy (second hand though you wouldnt think so) with rain cover and coseytoes all for £75. I pushed it home with ds3 and 4 in it and they both fell asleep in it. Going to Chessington on Sunday so going to take it with us for when ds3 gets fed up with walking.
My boobs are still so sore and Ive gone up another bra size but will wait till dh gets paid again till I can get new bras. I was saying to dh the other day I have gone up in bra sizes with each baby and stayed. I started off 36c went up to 40c after ds3 and stayed. up to 38d with ds4 and now in 40dd and still growing . Gonna be dragging on the floor by Jan !!

Angechica · 02/08/2007 12:00

Ooh Naetha

I sometimes feel like that about DH driving habits. I secretly wish he would get a couple more tickets so he would have to be more cautious!

I have to remind myself he is 38 and been driving for 20 years without a major accident. I am 34 and have been driving only 3 years and found that other people's driving bothers me much more now I drive myself! (? loss of control)

It's just you feel that he should be more mindful of his own safety because he has to be there for you and your child as well, isn't it? I feel like that too.

why not print out show him your message and these threads - let him see how it's making you feel

xx

beller · 02/08/2007 12:37

Naetha- Hope you lunch goes well and you manage to clear the air a bit xx

MrsMcJnr · 02/08/2007 12:49

Cazzybaby ? I wouldn?t have minded at all if I?d known she was a student, it was the fact that I thought she was another patient intently listening in that bothered me!

Housemum ? I?m sure the thread on here about cord collection said that the companies themselves made provision for the collection.

Pinkpetal ? It?s a tricky one isn?t it? Some swear by bump bands and safety pins!

Beller ? thanks hon enjoy Goodwood! Doppler sounds fab!

LouiseSJ ? sorry to hear about the fibroids, at least you?ve known from early on that a C section might be needed, gives you some chance to get used to the idea, hope it doesn?t come to that though hon

Angechica I?ve only been driving 3 years too and will do anything to avoid having to!

Katyt1 ? birth plan sounds good! Well done on the win!

Naetha ? I put it down to hormones but yes, I am a bit fraught! Hope it all blows over soon.

Gingeme ? I?ve gone up again too but haven?t bought any new bras yet ? I was 32E before then up to 34G ? now, god knows what!

MotherofZ · 02/08/2007 13:20

Been off for one day and I feel like I've got a whole Harry Potter book to read!
You people are so busy chatting away

I've just skimmed read - so hope I am not geting into a muddle with the responses!

Mrs McJnr - love your posts . I had Group B Streps in my last pregnancy and when I mentioned it to m/w this time she didn't seem too concerned about it and just made a note of it on in my pregnancy book. Think I am going to try and persaude her to do a test, but if not will think about doing it privately. Does anyone know I can go about booking it?

Naetha - am being mega sensitive and any little thing can set me off.

Re birth plan: Only thought about the pain relief so far - will be going for gas and air and if needed then the epidural. Having bean in hospital - I need to be reassured that all the medical equipment is nearby if needed. With DD, her heartbeat started dropping and it frightened the pants off me (actually my knickers were already off at that stage!)

Mixedmama - craving fish and chips and pizza aswell. Why does it have to be the unhealthy foods?? Wish I was craving sensible things like fruits etc..

Hello to everyone else and welcome to the newbies

Naetha · 02/08/2007 13:51

Had a great lunch - me and DH sorted everything out so that's good I just can't stop myself worrying about the daftest things. I know I have a really bad fear of loss, which means I worry about other people (especially DH) and our cats far much more than I should! The problem is, I know I will be even worse by the time I have this baby and will find them growing up a real challenge.

We were a bit naughty though and had fish and chips for lunch (my idea) mainly because I was craving salty chips but also because I was trying to prove that I don't always have a go about eating unhealthily! I just don't want to put all the weight back on I lost when I had my gallbladder problems!

As for birth plans, I have no plan yet really. I'd like to try a pool if I get the chance, but otherwise gas and air until I can't take it any more then see what pain relief is available after that, whether its pethidine or an epidural. I'm a bit funny about slimy stuff as well, so I'm going to ask the midwife to wipe down LO before handing him/her to me
