Naetha · 01/08/2007 12:00

Morning all, went for a chinese meal out last night that was absolutely gorgeous, until half way through the main course where all of a sudden I just went "off" it. No idea why, I just couldn't bring myself to eat any more, while usually I could eat duck in plum sauce, char sui and shredded chilli beef until it came out of my eyeballs! Ah well, the chicken and sweetcorn soup and spring rolls and won-tons were lovely

I'm having a hellish week at work - got two big reports being issued today, and then two big reports being issued on Friday, and our CAD team are nearly all on holiday so we don't have any figured to go with them!! (obviously this makes no sense to most of you, so just humour me a little!)

I'm still definitely feeling squirms and kicks - whenever its not happening though, I think I imagined it previously. They seem to happen at similar times of day - baby getting into a routine already. Generally I get squirms at about 8:30 to 9am, then around now (11 to 12) and then nothing major until about 8:30 at night. Will be interesting to see if that pattern continues after birth!

After our chinese meal we went to the local pub which has a pub cat who is usually very stand-offish. This time however, as soon as I sat down she jumped on my lap, kneaded my belly for a bit then curled up and went to sleep. Everyone in the pub was a bit flummoxed as she doesn't like anyone! The landlady thought it might be because I'm pregnant

Bettymamma · 01/08/2007 12:09

Hi mummy2littleprincess - you are not boring it happens to me all the time too. We obviously come on at unpopular times!

Back on the Phil&ted debate. You can get them on ebay for about £200 if you're very good at bidding. Mixedmama I know what you mean about feeling sorry for the one underneath BUT firstly I think I won't be using it for that long cos dd is already only using buggy when VERY tired so by time this one is sitting up (christ that feels like years away) dd will be prob refusing buggy and what I will do is stick this one in the front and if dd is really shattered she can sit in the back. I've heard the bottom bit with the cocoon is very good for winter babies - keeps them nice and warm and rain free.

Hmm dopplers - I can't get into that territory it would make me paranoid. I'm already freaking out when I haven't felt the flutters for half a day!

Angechica - or Ms Johnson?? I think your weight gain is not much at all. I had gained 8lb at 17 weeks (haven't weighed myself this week) and thats quite normal according to my pg book.

Spud01 well done with scan

Naetha, PBirdy - fooodddddd oh I can't get enough! and I'm the same with pate. I will be having the biggest slab of it once I've had the babba.

hope everyones well

Naetha - I LOVE chinese duck pancake things and was the same with a chinese the other week. Good luck with hellish week at work without the CAD team!? My dd had a kicking routine when I was pg and yes she followed it when she was born (i.e. up all night...)

Scampynoodle · 01/08/2007 12:15

Naetha. Funny what you say about the pub cat. When I first got pregnant our pooch followed me every-bloody-where. Don't know how he didn't kill me the way he stuck to my ankles, especially on the stairs. The midwife reckoned it was because he could tell that I was pregnant. All the hormones and different smells or something.

On other matters, I've got my heartbeat thingy thing this afternoon. I am shitting myself! I've had really distressing nightmares about the midwife telling me that the baby has died so it's got me in a right pickle, otherwise I'd be cool about it. Keep your fingers' crossed for me, will you?

Oh, and I bought my first trinket for the baby yesterday. It's a little newborn hat with bear ears sticking out of it. Daft but I just felt like I needed something to show me that it's all really happening. Encouraging though because it's tiny and the thought of the head appearing between my legs doesn't scare me nearly as much now (oh, blissful ignorance!). Course, when I showed dh he burst into tears. We just had to have chips for dinner after that to calm us down. Well, that's my excuse...

beller · 01/08/2007 12:18

Naetha -hope you get through this week unscathed! boooooo to work ....

The on take away i seem to crave is fish and chips...mmmmmmm

I have ordered a doppler for a month today.....who knows whether it will turn me paranoid or not...but will be able to tell you soon!

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 12:27

Mmmm i love chip buttys with loads of salt and onion vinegar... sooo bad but just cant help myself.

My DS spent his second neight in his big boy bed last night... two nights and he has not woken up/fallen out etc. Very proud of him.

Housemum · 01/08/2007 12:56

bargain alert - Morrisons have some baby special offers on at the mo. Tommee Tippee items - Microwave steriliser + 3 bottles £9.99, Electric steriliser + 3 bottles £19.99, manual breast pump £12.49 - these are all half price, and they are the same ones that Mothercare sells at full price, the "Closer to Nature" range in the silver-grey packaging. Leaflet says "available in most stores 30th July - 16th Aug subject to availability" (I bought the breast pump and microwave steriliser in our local branch this morning)

Angechica · 01/08/2007 13:02

Thanks Housemum - great tip! I will be off to Morrisons after work!!

Bettymamma · 01/08/2007 13:15

No way!! That's so cheap! - out my way Angechica...

Thanks for the tipoff housemum! xx

firsttimemother · 01/08/2007 14:52

Hi to everyone, I'm new to the list. I'm due on 8 January and this will be my first baby - I'll be nearly 39 by the time of the birth so am definitely one of the older (oldest?) ones...

I was just wondering, with those of you who are first-timers like myself, when you first felt the baby moving? At 17 weeks I haven't really felt anything, but perhaps I'm just insensitive!

Scampynoodle · 01/08/2007 15:20

Oddly I asked my midwife this a hour ago and she said it starts at 18 weeks for first timers. I guess everyone's experience is different though. I thought I'd already felt something like tickling (I'm 15 weeks) but my midwife reckons that's just the feeling of an increase in blood flowing through the arteries near my uetrus. Strange but true!

No help to you though. Sorry!

Sx

beller · 01/08/2007 15:35

welcome firstimemother!!

im up there with you...ill be nearly 38...im 18+5 today and im feeling its sometimes i think??? BUt only when im really still and quiet? Have rented a doppler today for a month so hopefully will hear heart beat for next few weeks until babybel starts booting the hell out of me

LouiseSJ · 01/08/2007 15:41

Welcome firsttimemother. I am also an older first timer. My baby is due 2nd January one month before my 37th birthday. It seems there are a quite a few of us having babies in our 30s.

I'm 18 weeks and I haven't felt any movement yet. I was getting a bit worried as so many people are saying they have.

Housemum · 01/08/2007 15:43

Hi firsttimemother - I'm 39 so you are in good company on this thread! This is number 3 and I only felt it moving properly around 17 weeks, and I think I'm fairly in tune with my body. First time round it was nearer to 20 weeks. At 18+5 now I don't feel movement all day, best time is last thing at night, lay still and quiet, sometimes it helps to put your hand on your belly - maybe the light pressure makes the little one respond?

MrsMcJnr · 01/08/2007 15:48

Just back from the midwife have to say, got rather wound up before we went as DH was late to get me and I got VERY stressed, so my blood pressure was sky high again and I got a lecture for not staying calm. There was a random woman sitting in the room as my appointment started who?d clearly had blood taken and who was listening intently to my appointment. I felt v uncomfortable and it got to the point where I was about to ask why I had to talk about private things in front of another patient when MW told me she was a student. I felt really sorry for the student as I am sure I was glaring at her for listening in I should have been told at the outset who she was though!

DH asked how to keep me calm and she said ?only let her read what we give her to read, don?t let her go on the internet ? tell her to enjoy her pregnancy? all because I asked about Strep B and whether I should be tested because I (apparently) had a strep virus 3 years ago that wiped out my immune system for 4 months and attacked all my organs! anyway, big breath, on the plus side, we heard Beanie?s heartbeat and also picked up some kicks on the Doppler too it was lovely to hear! All is fine. I go back on 22/8 for a ?reassurance? listen to the heartbeat because my scan is still 5 weeks away and I felt it was a long time to go without seeing anyone. Declined the AFP test, no arguments from the MW this time round!

Will try and catch up with you all now!

LouiseSJ · 01/08/2007 15:48

Everyone is talking about buying prams and bottles and things. I haven't bought a single thing yet. I don't quite know where to start. We decided that we would wait until after the 20 week scan before we start spending loads of money on baby things.

Some of you are going to ask the sex of your baby and I'm a little bit tempted to do this as I want to know if I can buy cute little pink dresses. However, we have decided that we will not find out as we think it will be more exciting to find out at the end.

barristermum · 01/08/2007 15:59

Hello all - missed you so much and it's taken bloody hours to catch up on all the news! so many newbies which is fab to see tho' heartbroken to have lost going43 - that must have had everyone in a desperate state.

DH and I have been in the Gower and then in Ireland (Galway and Cork) for a week - dreadful weather but nice just to be able to sleep and not be stressed and read the new Harry Potter (now its finished I feel bereft!)

Pinkpetal and nicky06 - I am still sick at 16 weeks. Had thought it was going but this morning had to pop head out of shower and vomit in the sink, and for those who were talking bladder probs this maybe tmi but I retched so hard I started nosebleed and a bit of wee came out - how many orifices can a pregnant woman emit from simultaneously?!

Btw Nicky6 - as barrister thinking mid-maternity wear have you tried madeline hamilton on Chancery Lane? She does a range called Oska that are very loose and flowing suits with elasticated waists and loose dresses that I have bought to last a few months and be easier post birth.

pbirdy - we did your Russia trip last year and also had an AMAZING time. In fact I put this pregnancy down to Our Lady of Kazan - we were having trouble we thought and I prayed to her icon in St Petersburg and then in fact bought a beautiful icon of her back home with us and I believe she granted our prayers and I thank her daily and pray for her continued care!

On food - like you Naetha I really fancied chinese last night and lost interest post the crispy duck and generally have had a massive thing for salt - ready salted chipsticks and hula hoops. re the prawns cazzybaby and pbirdy I have been eating them too and my midwife, at the booking in appt, said prawns were fine if cooked. I wondered who would want to eat a raw grey prawn and on clarification she meant "hot" so I guess scampi fine, prawn mayon sarnie not - but then I figured I can always stomach a prawn even when little else will go down so what the hell?! And no spud01 they didn't check heartbeat for me at booking in - didn't seem to be an option even so there we go. Feel pg so not worrying.

Gingeme you have another celibate here again - just have not felt remotely in the mood since bfp, and curiously neither has dh - v affectionate but I think he worries he will hurt baby. We did bump uglies on holiday when I was feeling uncharacteristically un-sick and it was lovely but very much a one-off for the mo' I'm afraid. Like Naetha - waiting for the desperately horny stage in a month or so!

Mrs McJnr - bravo on the free stuff - from my booking in appt I had some fruit flakes, a newborn pampers that made me cry it's so wee, sudocrem samples and lots of other cream things and some nursing pads that made dh realise there's a whole new world out there we are joining whether he's ready for it or not!

LouiseSJ · 01/08/2007 16:08

Hello Barristermum. I know what you mean about salty food. I can't get enough chip sticks, hula hoops and ritz crackers. I don't know if this is due to my low blood pressure? I know salt is bad for high blood pressure but whether it is good for low blood pressure I don't know?

I also got the tiny newborn nappy in my bounty bag which me and dh thought was so cute. Then I pulled out the breast pads which he seemed to find repulsive. I don't think he is quite prepared for the realities of childbirth.

Angechica · 01/08/2007 16:09

Barristermum I went to Asda and got my freebie bag last night as well and seeing the little nappy totally made me cry too!!

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 16:10

Ohhh we are definitely going to find out. We are going to book a 4D scan as a present for DH birthday next week, mine the week after and then our anniversary at the end of the month. The package comes with a DVD of the scan so we can watch it back.

MrsMcJnr - sounds like you are really stressed out. She should have told you about the student midwife, I would have thought it was standard to introduce people in the room. Try and do something nice to relax hun, not good for you or the baby to be stresses. (easier said than done i know)

LilyLoo · 01/08/2007 16:21

Hi everyone, hope alls well.
Not sure i could cope with a doppler myself may have to think about that one.
I finally got some new bra's today and got measured at m&s, iv'e gone up a cup size and dp loving it But why are underwired bra's so ugly, I looked at some of my old ones and there even worse than the two i got today and was so of all the women getting nice little lacy ones in the sale.
I just picked up a cheap pushchair for dd when we go away next week which i though was a bargain only £29.99 it's really light to push and has four different recliner positions so may keep it for the baby here
very cheap
Baby got first pressie today a hat and some bootees from sil in Australia they very cute yet it still doesn't seem real
Hope everyone else ok and any links to nice bra's much appreciated as i know my size now.

mixedmama · 01/08/2007 16:27

I seem to be the only person who hasnt grown bigger boobs, they are a D cup anyway so not complaining.

barristermum · 01/08/2007 16:29

Mrs McJnr - we crossed, but what an aggravating appt! Poor you, but glad all was well with you and beannie. Can't believe they said to dh "don't let her..." My dh wd have laughed at the very idea of being able to stop me!

MrsMcJnr · 01/08/2007 17:06

Lilyloo ? hope you are enjoying being off work and that you are getting lots of sunshine fabulous about your bank charges!! don?t spend it all in the baby shops!

Nicky6 thanks. So sorry to hear about your car accident! how awful! It must have been a horrible shock especially coupled with the MS going away. So glad all is well how is Betsy? Must have been lovely to share that with your sis I see you are off to Greece today I hope you have a wonderful time! sorry DH has to stay behind a bit ? gives you a head start on the tan though I borrowed all my sis?s mat clothes so apart from a couple of smart items for work (my sis is a scruff ) I?ve not bought much. Littlewoods online?s mat stuff is good ? got a couple of t-shirts for £4. For suits, try Formes, expensive but lovely, they have a 50% off sale at the mo.

Hey Cazzybaby ? can?t believe you wanted to eat that stuff? it?s off the menu due to the risk of food poisoning ? sorry! 20 week scans are not routine up here (West Lothian, Scotland) you just get the dating scan. I am under consultant care though and was given the date for a FA scan at my first appointment with her.

Mummy2tolittleprincesses ? we haven?t seen you for a while hon! Sorry we were all away when you came on to play ? most of us post in work time ? naughty! Glad all is going well. My 20 wk scan is at 21 wks too ? we don?t want to know the sex but this is our first baby on my list of names beginning with J, I have Jana and Juno. Off the top of my head though: Justin, Joanna, Joanne, Julian, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Jamie, James, Joby, Jimmy, Joseph, Julia, Julie, Joshua, Josephine, Jennifer, Jocelyn, Jacqueline, Jacinta ..have you tired www.thinkbabynames.com

Hello toomanyshoes ? great to hear how much you are enjoying your pregnancy bet you are excited about finding out the flavour! very at you starting your mat leave so soon, if I win the lottery, I will too!

Housemum thanks for reassuring me, I am sure I?m feeling something. MW told us it would be 20-23 weeks before I felt anything because I?m a first time Mum, I think she was trying to reduce stress but she just caused me more because I swear I can feel things! good tip re Ikea, I hadn?t thought of them. The changing table might be worth a look for me

Hey Beller I know how you feel about work both my assistants resigned yesterday (nothing to do with me I hasten to add!) and I?ve already noticed the de-mob happy attitude, their work is sloppy and one called in sick today

Scampynoodle it?s hard at this stage isn?t it? We have to real proof that there?s a baby in there! your bear hat sounds lovely, I love things like that. Apparently it can help to buy your baby a trinket ? PMA and all that! Hope this afternoon went well, I felt exactly the same before my appointment. I was told the same thing about the movements, that the ones I?ve had are blood pulsating not baby!

Naetha ? hello! Hope Friday goes well hon you have been very restrained waiting to get mat clothes you wait and see how comfy they are! Glad to hear that your triple test results were low something less to worry about! How is your recovery going? We don?t get a nuchal up here either ? and the test we are offered is only the double test ? we paid privately for a nuchal. Great that your LO is so active. Cats do like pregnant women apparently ? I can?t tell if my cats are being different or not to be honest!

Angechica pushchair ? nightmare, I don?t know where to begin! I have Housemum?s guide for when the time comes glad your appointment was fine. They didn?t weigh me but I know I am 5 pounds less than when I started out. My baby centre weekly update said that most have gained between 4.5 and 10 pounds by this stage (I was too fat when I started - not that I?m dieting, just eating better things and cutting out the drink must make a difference) PMSL how about Magic. Ben or Linden?! my friend has just named her baby after a Rangers player?.

Hello Bettymamma ? Hello MotherofZ Hello LouiseSJ

Hello Gingeme ? I?ve heard about those Grobags hope you are feeling a bit better, sure when you feel less tired and sick you?ll be more in the mood Never knew that about apples!

Mixedmama ? just think how much more you?ll see at 23 weeks!

Hey PBirdy thanks for the advice, I think he is going to go for another job in the bank, he says he can?t stand having nothing to do all day ? what?s wrong with him? cooked and hot prawns are ok but you have to be careful of ones in salads and things. As it was so long ago, sounds like they were fine Great idea, I shall start at mat leave count down in my diary too?.20 weeks on Friday that?s ages at least I have the first week in October off! Did you get the money off vouchers in the Bounty Pack? I am sure there are 2 x 10% off at Dorothy Perkins. I?ve seen tons of Bugaboos around town too ? how can people afford those?! I?m hungrier too ? just ate 6 Oreos no good for me or for Beanie!

Talking of the Bounty Pack ? has anyone listened to the free CD from Pampers on what the baby can hear in the womb? It is hilarious! Worth it for comedy value! We hear: ?Darling, what would you like for breakfast?? Baby hears: ?hmrmfm mhhmmm hmmmmh? LOL

Congratulations Katyt1

Imawurzel ? not long until that scan this is my first too and I?m often worried x

Spud01 ? glad you saw your LO and all was fine mine was quite quiet at my nuchal so they woke it up

Welcome Firsttimemother and congratulations! there are a few of us on here so you are in good company, in fact, we have a lovely mix so there?s a wealth of experience from those who are mums already

Has anyone even thought about their birth plan yet?
