i dont know anyone that has one Pbirdy..i was in a shop the other day looking ,and must admit i prefered the mammas and pappas pramette...which is handy as its cheaper! Seems to be a hit with all the stars though!

Naetha · 31/07/2007 16:33

I haven't even got as far as considering what pram to get! I'll have to find that guide that Housemum did for us in the last thread

I'm pretty sure I'd like to get a sling of some sort for the first couple of months, and then maybe go straight to a buggy at 6 months rather than get a pram as well.

Mind you to be perfectly honest I have no idea as we were considering getting one of those travel jobbie systems as we're going to need something to get back from the hospital.

I'm not au fait with baby brands, but £600 for a pram seems absolutely extortionate!!

Bettymamma · 31/07/2007 16:46

PBirdy - have been eating prawns till they come out of my ears I'm afraid. Their benefits outweight the possible threats I think.

Naetha - prams are very good for getting irritable babies to sleep BUT you can get a Maclaren buggy suitable from birth - very good buy.

Where is this list from housemum? -Housemum give us the low down on phil & teds! Bugaboos. My mate told me at the weekend that her bugaboo was the worse thing she ever bought because it was so difficult to move and wquite heavy. Only one persons opinion though. They look good!!

I do like the M&P pramette, havent got one myself but a few of my friends did and I really like the different formations and the fact that it folds up like a mclaren.

I had a travel system and it was huge and heavy - hated it, got a mcalren buggy the moment i could and it is brilliant/.

Naetha · 31/07/2007 16:50

As long as seafood / shellfish are well cooked it shouldn't be a problem. I've been scoffing down scampi like there's no tomorrow and they're just big prawns aren't they?

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 16:53

I ate scampi for lunch today- i didnt know that scampi was a no no.

PBirdy · 31/07/2007 16:58

I am glad to hear about the others who have been eating prawns. You know, it is amazing the number of times I have felt like pate since this whole thing started. I could go for months and months without eating it before and now I seem to feel like it every time I see it at the supermarket - funny that.

Yes, I think the bugaboos are just the trendy thing to have (at a whopping 600 quid) so maybe people just buy them for the glamour factor rather than because they are good. I also don't get the difference between a pram and buggy?

PBirdy · 31/07/2007 16:59

Having only just written that has made me feel like pate and prawns.

Is anyone else eating for England?? My appetite was pretty normal up until about 2 or 3 days ago and now I am just ravenous all the time.

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:05

Pram is the flat lie down type of thing sort of like a moses basket and buggy is more like the light zippy mclaren things that you see older babies in.

Naetha · 31/07/2007 17:07

I've found my appetite has gone ballistic in the last week or so. I was feeling so smug about getting to 18 weeks and having lost 8lbs on the way, now I'm sure I'll put it all back on in the next two weeks!

I'm seriously craving a chinese tonight. Those teeny spring rolls and ribs in peking sauce followed by duck in plum sauce with fried noodles and special fried rice and shredded chilli beef in szechuan sauce... Sorry I appear to be dribbling into my keyboard here

This is after my day of a HUGE bowl of bran flakes for breakfast, a ginster's cornish pastie, muller yoghurt (well that's kind of healthy...) half a pound of grapes and three packets of walkers crisps.

Oh, and the handful of peanut MnMs, gummy bears, sunflower seeds etc etc etc.

Housemum · 31/07/2007 17:33

Hi all - I don't know anyone with a Phil & Ted's I'm afraid! there are a lot of them around at the mo so they are popular though that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Bugaboos seem a horrendous price - I can't believe they are that great. I once saw a programme on BBC about money saving and a couple tried a Bugaboo against a cheap make, and after a week's trial they preferred to save the money- can't remember exactly why, but they thought the Bug wasn't worth the extra. Take an afternoon to go pram shopping and spend a long time in the shops, wheeling various ones around, try folding it up and down, undo and do the straps up and imagine putting a baby in and out, ask the assistant to try it in your car boot if you are somewhere with parking like Toys R Us or M'Care World. Independent nursery shops are sometimes more helpful like that.

Re Ikea sizing - they did have a notice up saying the mattress sizes were changing to 60 x 120 which is one of the standard sizes in Mothercare etc. Their cots are pretty basic, no frills, but good if cost is an issue. As I said before, not too impressed with their actual bedding as mostly quilts.

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:39

I really dont like those Phil and Teds. I just cannot imagine putting either child in the bottom bit. I can completely see the practicality of them against other buggies/prams for two children but just dont think i could use it, would feel awful for the child at the bottom.

PBirdy · 31/07/2007 17:43

Ah, I see the diffence now - so you have to lay a newborn flat and a bigger one can sit up. How long until they sit up I wonder? Seems like a good idea to buy one that converts but I don't know what the people who are already mothers think.

That description of Chinese food has set me off again!

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:51

Pbirdy - Youc can get pushchairs that lie flat also so pram isnt the only option. I think most buggies can be used from about 3 months altho i think somebody mentioned the maclaren that lies flat so can be used from birth, very good value for money.

gingeme · 31/07/2007 18:50

PBirdy I got a doppler system off Ebay too. It was £9 I think. The same one in Argos was about £25!
Im going to have to buy a double buggy this time round. I was reading about the pros and cons of twin buggies and tandem buggies. Definately going to get a twin buggy. I shall use a ring sling for short journeys at first though as they are so easy to bf in.
I used to realy like the look of those Phil and Ted ones but beware you buy the standard buggy then have to buy the extra bits to add on. I think the underneath bit you have to buy extra as an add on and the cosy toes etc and it does work out quite expensive. Not sure what well get. Probably go to Mothercare World or somewhere like that and have a try.
Oh yes Im just starving all the time too and feel guily if I have an extra snack or something after my main meals. I also get quite wobbly and sicky if I go past my meal times. Mind you Ive always been abit like that anyway. My friend used to say ' Don't make her hungry, you wont like her when shes hungry'.

katyt1 · 31/07/2007 20:47

Hi everyone

sorry haven't posted in a while, do try and keep up to date with posts tho.

have added my scan pic to my profile (i think....)

re prams/buggies, we were given an M&P 3-in-1 thing and we bought an M&P Aria stroller which says suitable from birth.
I am not so impressed with the aria personally. i like the other one (think it's an Ultima?) but it is very big and bulky.
I would get a second hand pram/lie flat thing, and buy something lightweight like the mclaren for post 3 months, those first 3 months will fly by and you will be using the buggy for years after.
just my op.

right, dh calling, dinner ready, mash, mmm, had a mash craving for days

hope everyone well

mummyto2littleprincess · 31/07/2007 21:21

Imawurzel · 01/08/2007 06:53

I had a look at the doppler's, but not sure. I would worry myself if i didn't hear the heartbeat. DH just said 'oh it'll be fine' when i said about it last night.
I'm 18+2 now and don't think i've felt anything.
Sometimes i think i do then not sure. This is my first so i don't really know what to expect.
How is everyone else so far? I've got 14 days now til my next scan. (15th)

spud01 · 01/08/2007 07:49

Morning all, hope everyone is well

Finally had my scan yesterday and lo was very quiet so I think lo was asleep, it did give me a bit of a fright for a few seconds, but then I noticed the heart beating which turned rapidly into relieve, it was so nice to finally see little one. Theyve changed my dates slightly to Jan 24th but I wont bother changing on the list yet. I was also given my date for next scan on 11th sep, I havent properly worked it out yet but I think by their dates I will be 21 weeks.

I cant remember who asked but I have a couple of girls names in mind, but no boys names in mind. If i went by previous pg this one will be a girl (even though I wont be finding out before hand). When i was having dd i had girls name in mind and when I had my ds i could only come up with boys name before hand.

Anyway like a say hope everyone ok x

beller · 01/08/2007 08:46

imawurzel- im 18 + 5 weeks with first and sometimes i think i can feel something, then most of the time nada...especially during the day....when i go to bed is when i think i can feel it.....

Pbirdy- quite alot of the pram/buggy systems are from birth...the m+p pamette lies flat for the first few motnhs, then swings over to become a buggy.

mummytolittleprincess- im thinking of getting one too...dont know if i would become obsessed though?

spud01- glad the scan went well....babybel was quite lazy during scan too, but did kick and turn head at some point x

hope everyone is well xx

Angechica · 01/08/2007 09:55

hi all

16 week appointment yesterday - all was fine. The mw used a sonic thing to get the heartbeat. I get the feeling in Northumberland I might be lucky as they seem to do everything quite thoroughly and traditionally.

I have gained 7lb in 16 weeks - this is within the normal range! Still loving the milk.

Oooh, names, names - ... We were thinking Boris for a boy, Ulrika for a girl...

(Can you guess our surname!?)

But seriously, as an ex-teacher with a teacher hubby, so many names have been spoiled for us due to their association with nightmare pupils. Lilyloo must have the same problem!!! Although I have to say a lot of them had names not to my taste anyway i.e. being named after Newcastle United footballers...

mummyto2littleprincess · 01/08/2007 11:35
