@TheCraicDealer my mw did listen but I had to ask, it was amazing to hear, I cried!!

Fortheloveofscience · 15/04/2019 08:31

I’m not going to go all out with decorating a nursery, we redecorated the bedrooms last year in a nice shade of cream with dark hardwood floors and I don’t want to start doodling over the walls when I’ve got zero artistic talent and know I’ll just make a mess! Will get some pictures and things but imagine baby’s not going to spend a lot of time in there for a while anyway.

Craic I went in expecting to be told they don’t check heartbeat at 16 weeks, but it seems in my trust they do. I think best to go in assuming that they won’t so you’re not disappointed - as usual it only reassured me for about 5 minutes anyway! Hope it goes well this afternoon Smile.

db92 · 15/04/2019 08:32

@TheCraicDealer my midwife let us listen but it took a good ten minutes and a trip to the loo before we could pick it up as baby was apparently hiding. It was so reassuring to hear but I can see why so many trusts won't do it because of how tricky it can be to find.
Put me off any ideas of renting a Doppler for at home!

DancingUnicorn1 · 15/04/2019 08:42

@TheCraicDealer I feel the same as I have my 16 week appointment tomorrow! Everyone else seems to be much further ahead.
I'd love to hear the heartbeat for reassurance, especially as I'm another 2lbs down Hmm

As for nursery - I doubt we'll be decorating ours. We rent and the woman who had this place before me had used hot pink gloss on the walls Shock so the landlord isn't keen on tenants painting anymore.
Hoping to save a deposit to buy before baby is in school so by then s/he'll be old enough to be excited about decorating their own room.

Megan2018 · 15/04/2019 09:10

@TheCraicDealer
No heartbeat check at my 16wk sadly. :(
It has been horrible waiting for the next scan - still so anxious! Mine is a week Weds though so can't come soon enough.

KnobJockey · 15/04/2019 09:11

Craic, I had my 16 week appointment last week and they didn't check the heartbeat, and said they wouldn't even if reduced movements until 24 weeks or almost. She said unfortunately, if they listened for it and there was a problem- slow heartbeat/ heartbeat not found, they wouldn't do anything about it anyway, it would be left to nature, so the trust had told them no more heartbeat checking until 24 weeks. Pretty sad- I almost had a cry at that point!

AnnieAR · 15/04/2019 09:11

I'm 20 weeks today, have my anomaly scan this afternoon 😊

IVEgottheDECAF · 15/04/2019 09:14

I heard the hb at 16 weeks

Its always hard on these threads to be one of the people due later in the month as others can seem miles in front. But important to remember some of the people due 1st or 2nd may go two weeks late and some of those due 30th may be weeks early!

Megan2018 · 15/04/2019 09:14

So ahem. Obviously when you have a list of essential baby items to purchase these are possibly not up there as high priority. But look what fell into my basket this morning.
In my rather pathetic defence I had a voucher so only cost me £2 for all 4 and DH was all for it.

They will go on a floating shelf in the nursery along with some Winnie pencil sketches I won on ebay for £8.

Bunny, make sure you put your feet up today. We're renovating a house at the minute, and it's hard going- it really makes my hips hurt, and j walk like John Wayne the next day.

IVEgottheDECAF · 15/04/2019 09:18

They are cute megan!

Unfortunately people have been gifting my dc soft toys for over 11 years, there is no joy in buying them myself now as they piss me off being everywhere! I do throw some out now and then but dd is terrible for wanting to keep every single one

stormtrooperjulian · 15/04/2019 09:21

@TheCraicDealer I heard the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment, I expected it would take some time to find but as soon as she put the Doppler on my belly there it was. Was so nice to hear.

We’re not doing any specific nursery decoration, but we’re in the middle of renovation work at the moment and that room will be pale green and white. Once the baby is old enough to have an opinion then he/she can choose a theme.

Megan2018 · 15/04/2019 09:22

Tbh @IVEgottheDECAF I'm quite tempted to keep them for me!

Stroan · 15/04/2019 09:37

No heartbeat at 16 weeks here either, which is hard. I do understand though, they always had difficulty finding DDs and it could be very worrying.

Very jealous of all the 20 week scans. Mine is next week, but I'm 20 weeks on Wednesday. In my head, I should be having my scan this week!

@knobjockey is totally right, I loved decorating while I could make all the decisions! DD is 3 but I don't think she cares yet (or realises she could ask for something!). We decorated her new room when she was 1 as we were getting a single bed for it anyway, I took full advantage and painted it navy and grey, with loads of mint accessories and details. She says she loves it but it's not a typical little girls room. I hate pink with a passion and it would be torture to have a pink room in my house, even if she wants it!

We got the IKEA kallax wardrobe and changing table delivered. All still sitting in boxes til we do some complicated jigger pokery moving furniture around and a bit of decorating... Ah who am I kidding my house is a bombsite right now. It always looks worse before it looks better right?

Fun new symptom, the ligament at the fron of my pelvis (symphysis?) is getting right nippy at times. Reckon that must be my relaxin starting to kick in. Oocha.

DustyDoorframes · 15/04/2019 10:29

Crickey, I never had a "decorated" room as a child, and it's never occurred to me to do a special nursery decoration job...
If we need anything for the kids room we show them options and let them choose, but that's as far as it's gone.
decaf I hear you Re the soft toys!!!!!! They breed, I swear. And so hard to evict.
I've got my 16 week apt next week, over a month to the next scan...

Moraxella · 15/04/2019 10:32

@DECAF

That was me when I was little! Would know exactly which toy my mum had binned. So they’re all going in the wash now to be regifted to mini-moraxella. I hate the thought of them all ending up in charity shops so I’m def not buying any!

Luckily house came with a pre decorated nursery, so no choice on colour scheme! Need to get my childhood cot out of parents loft and we are good to go.

At 16/40 appt they Doppler’d me, but took about ten mins and two worried looking midwives. They were much more stressed than me, what can they do if it’s concerning 🤷🏻‍♀️

GemmaJen · 15/04/2019 10:37

@TheCraicDealer we heard hb at 16w, it seemed to be part of the standard procedure in our trust. I also got to hear it at 13w at a consultant appointment so I'm guessing our trust is relatively relaxed about it. Luckily it was easy to find on both occasions.

Is anyone getting strange sensations in their stomach? I keep getting a vibrating feeling in my lower abdomen, I kept thinking my phone was ringing in my coat pocket, but nope. A quick Google seems to suggest a trapped nerve? Anyone had this?

Stroan · 15/04/2019 11:18

@dustydoorframes us neither! Although my mum did once paint in a horrendous shade of pink. That was as far as it ever went.

It's far from a necessity, and it's all actually for me! After many years of living in rented white flats, I love putting a bit of our personality into the house. Both DDs room and the baby's room have lots of handmade art on the walls that either I've made or we've been given. And prints. I love prints!

@ivegotthedecaf stuffed toys are the bane of my life. We have a shelf running he full length of DDs room holding about half of the stuffed toys. She doesn't even like them and couldn't tell you what they are. She has her favourite turtle and a star cushion I made, all other stuffed toys are of no interest but they were all gifts so I feel like they have to stay.

DustyDoorframes · 15/04/2019 11:22

@Stroan their work is done!!! They were given, were received with joy, now you can say goodbye and send them on their way to make someone else happy!!! Do it asap before your DD suddenly takes an interest or they start getting a bit dusty/manky and the charity shop won't take them!!!! Ahem, clearly struck a nerve there...

Stroan · 15/04/2019 11:24

@dustydoorframes I totally subscribe to that theory for MY stuff. But feel weird when they were newborn gifts, which is stupid. See also: 27 blankets!

OP posts:
Stroan · 15/04/2019 11:26

@dustydoorframes and all the gifts have made me.a bit more conscious of what I buy other people. No blankets, soft toys, noisy toys, playdough, toys with lots of tiny plastic bits or Julia Donaldson books!

OP posts:
DustyDoorframes · 15/04/2019 11:26

@Stroan give her the gift of not being saddled with too much cr*p before she's old enough to manage it!!!
(If you saw my kids' room your point and laugh, to be fair. I try!!! I really try!!! And the big one is 6 so puts his own spanners in the works...)

DustyDoorframes · 15/04/2019 11:27

@Stroan oh my god me too!

Megan2018 · 15/04/2019 11:42

My DH would literally stuff the house full of soft toys. His evil mother threw all of his away and aged 45 has never got over it. All 6ft 3, 16 stone of him still goes soppy for a teddy. We are doomed! Although I must admit I like them too.
