June 2019 - Part 7!

Hi ladies! Picking names, packing hospital bags - third trimester here we come! Smile

I thought I'd start out with the stats this time and I'll post the updated name list in a bit. I've just included the data that I have, since a lot of people are missing bits (or quite possibly I've missed their posts). We come from all over, so I'll put that bit in another post later as well.

Our average age at estimated due date is 33! That should help some of us who are feeling older.

And that's not just because we're all second-timers! In fact, most of us are having our first baby this year.

Baby #1 - 31
Baby #2 - 26
Baby #3 - 9
Baby #4 - 1
Babies 1&2 together! - 1

Fifteen of us are expecting lovely little boys, nineteen of us are expecting darling little girls, and at least sixteen of us are waiting to be surprised!

The average due date is June 13th, and the most popular due date is June 24th. We don't have anyone expecting on the 15th, 23rd, 27th, or 30th as far as I can tell.

And if you happen to have a baby on my birthday (June 16th), your baby will be born on Father's Day this year!

@stellarfox aw I really like Percy, so unusual!

I think we're settled on Rory Jack although we both really love Oran too. We're not really telling family and friends what we're thinking though.

I work with criminals, mostly males and it's so damn hard not to be put off a name because most of them are horrible people🙈

imtakingabath · 17/04/2019 17:00

@WeeBean aww I like Rory, that's cute. I've heard teachers often struggle to choose names too, because they associate names with horrible children they've taught!

Heyha · 17/04/2019 17:04

We have a girl's name sorted although I've gone off the middle name a bit...stuck between two boy's names, but won't say for definite til s/he arrives anyway as may not suit the baby!

Midwife worried me a bit today, measured fine but she asked about movements as baby heart rate up a bit, has been 135ish most of time but was 150 today (it was bloody hot in the surgery though so mine was up). I've had same amount of movement I think but in different places, my indigestion had been much better so I assumed baby had dropped but she really made a point of saying keep a close eye today and ring triage if any worries. I'm only worried cos she said that, if you see what I mean, I'm currently being punched in the bum and kicked in the rib, so 🤷‍♀️

KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/04/2019 17:04

Rory was on our shortlist for a while! I love it - for a boy or for a girl actually.
Most of my family work in schools so it's made names trickier.
Regarding the size thing I have the opposite problem and it's still winding me up massively. people keep commenting I look so small but that doesn't mean I'm not in pain everywhere and struggling!

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 17:10

@stellarfox I saw that thread! I was surprised by the reaction. Maybe it’s because I’m an American, but I don’t have any bad associations with it. Percy seems like a very British name to me, a little old-fashioned and less common. But I think it could be really cute on a kid and work well on all the ages up!

People are so weird about names, even strangers. I posted elsewhere and said this is the name we are choosing, is it too dated? And people would say things like “It’s not dated but I like this this and this name more.” And they’d be totally unrelated names in a different style! I mean thanks for answering the question, but I didn’t ask for your own unrelated shortlist.

My dad (of all people) has gone on the most about names. He kept giving me all this very detailed advice that my own parents clearly didn’t follow with us.

@WeeBean I love the name Rory! I have to admit I am incapable of pronouncing it though. I hear other people say it and somehow it’s like I end up with a speech impediment when I try to say it myself.

We are going to call baby Jamie, but I wasn't sure whether I would have James or just Jamie on birth certificate, so my thread was about that! Lots of different opinions as expected.. but at the end of the day we will call him Jamie, he will be known as Jamie, so his birth certificate will most likely be Jamie.

WeeBean · 17/04/2019 18:00

@imtakingabath lol I know a good few teachers who've really struggled with names because of children they've taught!

@koalasatemyhomework I think it would be lovely on a girl too, and I've never come across a girl with called Rory. Except for on Gilmore Girls lol

@Kescilly lol it probably sounds a lot more harsh in my Northern Irish accent than in your American accent, or another British accent. There's also Ruari, which I like, pronounced slightly differently to Rory but DH isn't a fan.

@Fee1234 Jamie is a gorgeous name, always liked it and it suits all ages too, so cute on a little boy!

swiftfox · 17/04/2019 18:08

@WeeBean Oran is our wild card option Shock. I'm surprised because I thought it was so unusual! I really like it but again DH is less convinced. I think it's an Irish/Scottish name and he thinks it might be odd if we choose a name when we have no ties to those countries...I really like Rory too!

Everything is made harder by the fact that English is not my first language and I want the name to go well with my native tongue as baby will hopefully be bilingual. There were TONS of great girls' names and such few for boys...

@heyha 150 a minute is totally normal. Anything up to 160. That just means the baby was moving and active during the scan! Our heartrate goes up too if we move about [smile

WeeBean · 17/04/2019 18:20

@swiftfox it's fairly common in NI/ROI, also spelt Odhran. I lived in England for 4 years though and never once came across anyone with that name. Definitely don't see a problem with using a name without a link to that country if you like it ☺️

Ooh what's your native language? I always think it's fantastic when children are bilingual! My cousin's wee ones speak English and German and it's so cute when they flip from one to the other. I always remember his son, aged about 2 at the time showing me his toy tractor and saying "Das ist my tractor", it was so adorable!

annihall · 17/04/2019 18:52

@fee1234 Jamie would have been our choice for a boy, we're having a girl though.
@swiftfox what nationality are you? I'm from Germany and we were really struggling for names that work in both languages and also are pronounced the same or at least similar... we've got a few on our list now and want to narrow it down to 2, so we can decide once our little girl is here

KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/04/2019 20:10

@WeeBean Gilmore girls is where I got the idea of using Rory for a girl's name Grin Grin
We aren't using it though as I struggle a bit to pronounce 'R' so just sounded odd when I said it.

I love the name Jamie!

Heyha · 17/04/2019 20:33

That's interesting @swiftfox as she was talking in terms of keeping an eye for reduced movements, it was just a Doppler (and a really weird ear trumpet too 😂). I wondered if she thought the higher heartrate than normal was an early sign of a bit of distress?

Have had plenty of movement so far today and we're heading into the witching hour where s/he tends to have a good disco round so we'll see

rollerskaterdata · 17/04/2019 22:36

We're also having a nightmare with names (I'm from Southern Africa, DH Eastern European) and I got so stressed and upset about it today I said "right then that's it, we're not naming her". Absolutely ridiculous, bloody hormones. It is really stressing me out now though, time is ticking.

I'm also huge and sick of people telling me "any day now!" No not any day you twit, I'm not full term yet and still have 6 weeks to due date!!

Sigh, rant over.

@Heyha oh dear me, I've not heard of that before?! I would've thought baby's heart rate changes slightly due to activity levels too. Flipping heck just another thing for me to worry about now! I would've thought as long as movements are fine all is well 🤷‍♀️ now I'm going to be asking my midwife to double check baby's heart rate at my 34 week appt tomorrow 🤦‍♀️

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 22:53

@Heyha I know the trumpet thing you’re talking about! They had a picture of one at our NCT class and I thought it looked a bit bizarre. I can’t even worry about heart rate because the midwives don’t seem to bother checking, in general.

Is anyone else reserving the right to change the name at true last minute? I’m 99% sure of ours, I just start to feel a bit panicked when we talk about it as a totally definite thing.

OP posts:
Heyha · 17/04/2019 23:48

To be honest @rollerskaterdata if she hadn't made comment about keeping an eye and calling triage I wouldn't have thought anything of the heart rate being up a bit compared to normal because it was stifling hot in there, she was running late (and I was due to pick my mum up from the station) and I'd had normal although in different place movements in the morning. So my heart rate was up ( though bp down again) as well!

Be interesting to hear what your midwife says but I really wouldn't worry, like you say if they're sloshing about as normal in there it's as good a sign as any isn't it Smile

Heyha · 17/04/2019 23:50

I think the student midwife thought she'd messed up my bp as well because she said what it was and paused...I said oh don't worry it's normally around that, sounds about right 😂

HoneyPea · 18/04/2019 08:00

Being a teacher for 11years has definitely made choosing a name hard, especially as my last 5 have been working with children with behaviour issues and because my DH is also a teacher! Which is why we haven't agreed on any yet (one of us always seems to think of a child they have taught with each suggested name so far) Oh well hopefully got 9 more weeks to keep thinkingSmile

fee1234 · 18/04/2019 08:21

Got a text from parcel force saying my baby box will be delivered today 😀 anyone else in Scotland getting one?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/04/2019 08:24

When we move in 3 weeks we are applying for ours @fee1234

If I recall correctly the current design is of the area we will be living in so that’s cute x

hexagon01 · 18/04/2019 08:26

The name that’s currently at the top of our list has met with a couple of 🤨 reactions from people who’ve basically forced us to tell them, including the manager of my son’s nursery (rude!!). My fault for telling but I panic when asked and usually spill. It’s not put me off though, and I will take pleasure in seeing what they say when they actually meet the baby, should we call her that. If she’s actually a boy then we are completely screwed as we have absolutely nothing.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/04/2019 09:33

Just never ever tell. Grin, wink, tap your nose but never ever tell.

imtakingabath · 18/04/2019 09:34

Question for those of you who've been pregnant before - I want to get some nursing bras, but while I've been pregnant my ribs have expanded quite a bit and I've gone from 32 to 34 band size - should I stick with 34? Or can I expect my ribs to shrink back a bit after childbirth?!

Napssavelives · 18/04/2019 12:23

Feeling so tired and done today. Ex is been an arsehole, kids are with him until Saturday night and I can’t stop crying . I don’t know if I can do this :(

Dustyzest · 18/04/2019 13:00

@imtakingabath I’ve bought a couple in my new size (I’ve gone up three bra sizes!) as I’m not anticipating fast shrinkage but I hope there will be some. I feel like a barrel right now!

My other idea is to buy some slightly smaller ones and use bra extenders?

imtakingabath · 18/04/2019 13:10

@Dustyzest ah yeah I already have some bra extenders, so I could try those first. Bras are just so expensive that I want to get as much use out of them as possible!
