June 2019 - Part 7!

Hi ladies! Picking names, packing hospital bags - third trimester here we come! Smile

I thought I'd start out with the stats this time and I'll post the updated name list in a bit. I've just included the data that I have, since a lot of people are missing bits (or quite possibly I've missed their posts). We come from all over, so I'll put that bit in another post later as well.

Our average age at estimated due date is 33! That should help some of us who are feeling older.

And that's not just because we're all second-timers! In fact, most of us are having our first baby this year.

Baby #1 - 31
Baby #2 - 26
Baby #3 - 9
Baby #4 - 1
Babies 1&2 together! - 1

Fifteen of us are expecting lovely little boys, nineteen of us are expecting darling little girls, and at least sixteen of us are waiting to be surprised!

The average due date is June 13th, and the most popular due date is June 24th. We don't have anyone expecting on the 15th, 23rd, 27th, or 30th as far as I can tell.

And if you happen to have a baby on my birthday (June 16th), your baby will be born on Father's Day this year!

@daffydillo
I have a similar appointment tomorrow. First birth was forceps and episiotomy and I was still in pain 6 months later and had physio until ds was almost 1. Still not completely right and I’m scared another vaginal birth will destroy me. I’m requesting a ELCS. Not sure if the decision will be made tomorrow or I’ll be referred to someone else. Feeling rather anxious about it all!
Good luck tomorrow and come back to tell us how it went.

Daffydillo · 16/04/2019 23:45

@pigriver

Appointment was today. Baby is indeed ‘large’ though I am not diabetic. Consultant happy for me to have a normal delivery but said he will gladly sign off a c section if that is what I want to do. I have been advised that as I did give birth without assistance last time, I can do it again and hopefully this one is slightly smaller than his brother, second babies ‘should’ be more straight forward. I’m ok with this for now, but it is reassuring to know if I freak out in the coming weeks I can change my mind!

Dustyzest · 17/04/2019 07:34

I’ve been out of the loop for a while but checking back in! Yes to crying all the time. We had my partner’s children with us all week last week and they’re so noisy (two teenage boys) so I didn’t sleep all week as they’re on Easter holidays so are up at all hours.

My partner then told me that on the Saturday morning they were setting a 7.30 alarm to go to the gym and I burst into tears! I was like ‘no more alarms, no more noise please!’ He bunked in with one of his sons that night and I had a lovely sleep and a lie in!

I also cried when they ate all the bagels I’d bought for my work lunches on the day I bought them.... we’re off to a spa today just the two of us and he’s booked me an hour long massage and I cannot wait!

Can I ask about names? Has anyone decided on anything yet?

KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/04/2019 07:52

@Daffydillo sounds like the appointment went well and good to know you have options.

@pigriver hope your appointment goes well today

KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/04/2019 07:56

Dustyzest we were starting to panic as had no boys names whatsoever, despite going through a whole bunch of baby name books. But as of Sat we have a shortlist of 2 names for both girl or boy (haven't found out the sex) so am a bit happier now. We are not telling anyone at all though as we learned the hard way with DS that out friends and family have a habit of ruining names for us, even unintentionally!! We've gone for something uncommon but not too unusual either. It's been tricky as we didn't want something that was completely at odds with our son's name either.

Dustyzest · 17/04/2019 09:45

@kaoalasatemyhomework we know ours is a girl and my partner literally hates every name out there!

His two sons have very popular, classic one syllable names and he wants something to go with that but I am finding myself obsessed with names like Pepper and Juniper (I think it is hormonal...)

I’ve got one favourite name that he’s said he ‘doesn’t hate’ and in my head she’s that now... I don’t know what I’ll do if he vetoes it!

imtakingabath · 17/04/2019 10:32

@Dustyzest we have chosen a name! We know we're having a boy, so it's basically definite that he's going to be called what we've chosen. My partner doesn't want to tell anyone until he's here though, so I have to stop myself from accidentally saying it all the time!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 17/04/2019 10:37

Oh yeah @Dustyzest the moment we found out this baby is a girl my DH was like “well that seals it, her name is [name] [name] [surname]”

Seeing as it’s one we both like and are happy with it’s no big deal; I did the exact same to him for DS and sort of for DD too even though we didn’t know what we would call her until the day she arrived Smile

toomanyflatwhites · 17/04/2019 10:46

We have a pronunciation dilemma about names - I posted about this on the fb group I think - but essentially the name we would like has quite a different sound in English and french (DP is french) and sounds like a different name. Don't know if this is a good idea given that he and all of his family would say it one way, I (and everyone around us as we live in England) would say it the English way. Alternatively we could spell it in a way that uses the french pronunciation but I actually don't like that name, I like the English one!
The other alternative we have come up with is actually my 2nd cousin's name (well, my mum's cousin's son - so 1st cousin once removed I think?) but he lives in Australia and is unlikely to move home/be in our lives so don't know if that would be ok?? We are in touch with his parents and brothers so can't work out if it would be weird and don't want to ask my mum as we want to keep names quiet!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 17/04/2019 10:51

@toomanyflatwhites

If you are talking about names like:

Hugo
EN: hewgoh FR: oogoh

Juliet:
EN: jewel-ee-et FR: joooliettttt

Then I think that you should embrace “la différence” and enjoy the fact that your baby will have almost “two names” if that makes sense?

Unless one of the pronunciations really gets on your tits, in which case call the baby Dave, regardless of sex.

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 10:58

@toomanyflatwhites we were having pronunciation issues too. We wanted an Indian name (my heritage is Indian), but I grew up in the US and my husband is British. It’s hard finding something that works across all the cultures! There are so many names I like that just wouldn’t work here.

We’ve decided on one though, and he’s really happy with it. My name is Indian as well and people have struggled with it a bit my whole life. But to be honest, it’s never bothered me. It’s made me unique and people tend to remember me more easily because of it.

I don’t think it would be weird to use your cousin’s name at all.

OP posts:
imtakingabath · 17/04/2019 11:03

@toomanyflatwhites if you actively dislike the French pronunciation I'd probably go for something else, or it'll probably really bother you!

The first cousin once removed thing most likely wouldn't be a big deal, since they'd rarely be in each other's company, though I can understand why you'd be hesitant!

fee1234 · 17/04/2019 11:34

We've picked a name for our little guy too. We both love it, I even ordered a wooden cut out of it to put on the wall in the nursery.. hope he suits it!

Middle name however.. I'd like to use my dads name, but don't think it flows.. I did consider using my mums maiden name as the middle name, but it's Donald and will just make me think of Trump so think that's out!

Dustyzest · 17/04/2019 11:59

Ahhh I really need us to lock down if not a name then at least a shortlist! 🙈

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/04/2019 13:00

We've picked names, but can't decide which way round they go! We keep dithering back and forth.

stellarfox · 17/04/2019 13:28

I actually hate names now and I’ve always loved baby names, until now I’ve actually got to name someone. I got the worst reaction on the names board to a boys name we’re considering 😅 It’s soo hard and as we don’t know the gender it’s extra difficult. I might just leave it until baby arrives as we’ve got a few weeks to decide haven’t we?

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 13:36

@stellarfox I read that board a lot but I think they can be a bit horrible and boring. It’s the same ten names deemed as acceptable over and over. I wouldn’t put too much stock into what they say!

OP posts:
fee1234 · 17/04/2019 14:16

@stellarfox I started a big debate on the name board too so I'll be staying away from there in future!

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 14:23

Now I want to know what names have been controversial!

OP posts:
swiftfox · 17/04/2019 14:32

Firstly, glad to hear I'm not the only one going a bit mental. I gave a middle-aged man a firm rebuke on the tube this morning for pushing in front of me. I think the pregnancy is making me a bit unhinged....

32 week growth scan today and baby is bang in the middle of the chart and doing well. We watched him stick out his little tongue during the scan and got quite emotional. Not long to go!

We have about five names we are debating. Both our grandfathers are Samuels, so we've decided to use Samuel as a middle name. All the first names go with it, but we want a short first name as our surname is double-barrelled. I have a favourite but DH thinks it's too posh. Three others are more common, and then we have a wildcard option. Might just wait to see what the baby actually looks/feels like! @kescilly I have two good friends with Indian heritage and white British husbands. One went with a very common English name (Sophie) and the other with a traditional Indian one (Lakshmi). Luckily Britain is so multicultural that Lakshmi is unlikely to be considered unusual or odd.
I hate asking people for their name options though. I told my mum one of the shortlisted ones and she hates it Blush

imtakingabath · 17/04/2019 14:39

@swiftfox my partner and I aren't married, so we're double-barrelling our surnames for the baby's name, so I wanted a short first name too :) Plus the middle name will be Christopher so that's also quite long!

Kescilly · 17/04/2019 14:48

@Swiftfox that was actually on our shortlist because Lakshmi was my grandmother’s name. I wasn’t sure I’d like how people here would pronounce it though.

I’m officially at the point where strangers think I’m huge and ready to give birth any day now. Nope, still a month and a half to go. Just a very large baby.

OP posts:
KoalasAteMyHomework · 17/04/2019 15:03

@stellarfox RE your earlier question, I think you get 6 weeks to register the birth and then there's also another chunk of time where you can change the name if you wanted.

We have it a bit easier as we aren't doing a middle name!

swiftfox · 17/04/2019 15:11

@imtakingabath we joined up our surnames when we got married - it seemed like a nice thing to do but it does mean short first names only....

@kescilly I do like Lakshmi. Also, if one more person comments on my size I will punch them. My baby is average size but I do look big. But I look big because I'm growing a tiny human in my uterus, ffs.
Next person who comments on my size I'll ask them how old they are and then say "Really? But you look MUCH older!"

stellarfox · 17/04/2019 16:42

@swiftfox and @imtakingabath We’re the same with double barrelling so I’m more keen on shorter first names. Although our surname will be three syllables so not too long!

@kescilly My controversial name was Percy! Some people liked it but a lot of people felt very strongly that it was awful. We’ve got some more popular names on our list too but a couple more old fashioned names so I just don’t know what we will end up with!

@Koalas Ah 6 weeks is a good amount of time to decide so might just leave it until after we’ve met baby now as I’ve had enough 😅

We’re not even thinking about middle names until we’ve decided on the first! Not keen on our family’s names to honour anyway really 😬
