Another GTT lady here - got mine next Wednesday. @Giraffe888 I'm high risk for it as both my parents have type 2 diabetes.

blueeyedviking · 26/03/2019 20:39

I had a really emotional period last week.
Just like you were explaining @thedust , I can relate to plans being cancelled, no babyshower and generally feeling shit! I'm also panicking 're work and getting behind career wise (just a tad driven...).

And yes I'm still getting loads of spots.

This so called pregnancy glow and easy 2nd trimester is all lies in my world...

Yukka · 26/03/2019 20:55

Sorry for all of you feeling a bit shit! I had a cry last week which was just about some crap at work that made me angry but otherwise ok.

I’m actually feeling pretty good now. Back in for second 20w scan tomo as they couldn’t get everything last time. Fingers crossed all ok.

I’m also booked for the diabetes test at 28w as mum has type 2.

twickersmumtobe · 26/03/2019 21:37

Thank you @SnailorSwift @BeckyButterfly and all others that have shared about your emotional rollercoaster, it does help to know I'm not the only one experiencing this and hopefully I'm not quite as crazy as I was thinking.

@Giraffe888 I have the glucose test because of my age, weight and PCOS. If your midwife or GP think you need it they will tell you.

I was told today the unsaid truth about pregnancy is that most women don't actually enjoy it, it's more a means to a miracle at the end, that makes it all worth it and you quickly forget what came before.

BeckyButterfly · 27/03/2019 06:46

Another one booked in for diabetes check at 27 weeks. My mum is type 2 which makes me high risk.

I’m still not feeling that glow either. Spots are us over this way as well and still absolutely exhausted! Sickness has started back up this week as well which has been fun since it has been almost 10 weeks since it died down..!

StargazyDrifter · 27/03/2019 07:51

Also have the diabetes check and most definitely not feeling the glow/still throwing up. It's making me look forward to the birth/ELCS because anything has to be better than this. Have also been feeling emotional and very up and down. Totally recognise the work panic.

My cough of 6 weeks won't go either and hospital called yesterday to say they've lost my chest X-ray from Fri... I'm so cross about it. It took some deciding to have it in the first place because of the slightly increased risk of childhood cancer that X-rays can be associated with in pregnancy. On balance the consultant said I really needed it but had to do lots of forms about risk. And now seemingly for nothing. If I wasn't feeling so down I'd complain more, but I'm a bit spent.

OneMoreWish · 27/03/2019 09:09

I got gestation diabetes in my first preganacy ( I was in high risk category anyway) so I've been tested once already in this pregnancy and I passed but told I was near border. I have my next test at 28 weeks.

I have a cold again as well and for the last 3/4 days I have a horrible blocked up - ache type feeling on side of my face and I can't decide if it's head cold at side of my face ( near cheekbone) or gum infection ? Hoping it will go soon as I feel like a grizzly bear :(

I've got my whooping cough vaccine booked in for just before I turn 27 weeks - you don't think that's too late do you? It's the earliest app my nurse had

Kentishgal · 27/03/2019 09:54

Hello, not been on in a while, sorry to hear a few people are struggling and suffering with illness. Fingers crossed for some nice weather that might make everyone feel a bit sunnier (and nearer to July!)

SerenaOverjoyed · 27/03/2019 10:54

@BeckyButterfly Feeling like a spare part is exactly it. It's rubbish isn't it? I'm really feeling the loss of role. Some time off sounds good.

I have gained a stone exactly and I'm 23+6. 8lbs of that was gained during the snack-heavy 1st trimester Blush. Although this is probably pretty normal (my BMI was 22) I'm struggling with it. I've always been a yo-yo dieter and the massive weight gain is a bit overwhelming. I'm finding it easier as my bump gets bigger though and I come out of the 'ate a big sandwich' club.

SerenaOverjoyed · 27/03/2019 10:57

Speaking of weight gain, has anyone got any ideas on summer/holiday clothes? We've all got a June to get through heavily pregnant Shock!

I'm vaguely planning a holiday around week 28 to somewhere warm and I have genuinely no idea what I'm going to wear. I tried on some maternity dresses a few weeks ago and they were comically tent like (might not be now though!), but none of my normal summer dresses are going to even get over my boobs. I thought I'd live in maxi dresses but I look like a walking big-top.

Yukka · 27/03/2019 11:55

@onemorewish my hospital offered a walk in service for the whooping cough vaccine so I just went at my 20wk scan. I had thought 20 weeks was standard but perhaps is a trust thing and there's no hard and fast rule. The purpose as I understand is to protect the baby from birth to 12 week vaccinations so logically it sounds ok?

@serenaoverjoyed I managed to get a few bits again from Asos last weekend, we go on hol to Majorca in 2 weeks. They had some really flattering v neck maternity dresses that are light and you could dress up or dress down. I've also ordered some shorts from JoJo Mama Baby they should arrive this week. I've found the shops awful, everywhere I go - its all online, nothing in stock. I don't mind online shopping but it would be nice to mill around the shops and buy a few things easily.

i've really struggled with work trousers - has anyone found any good ones? I prefer the over the bump style then the ones that cut off underneath. I'd like to find some ankle length chino's or fitted/tailored style that I can wear with flats.

SnailorSwift · 27/03/2019 15:43

I'm another one for a GTT. Mines on 9th.
I had one the last time because one of my routine blood sugars was elevated but I'd ate a pain au chocolat and had a hot choc about 30 minutes before 😂 when I had the GTT everything was fine. DS was 9lb 4 at 38 weeks though so they've offered me one this time again.

Not looking forward to it the drink they give you made me heave last time it's so sickly!

SnailorSwift · 27/03/2019 15:53

@Yukka I've just ordered both of these today, to see which I prefer. From Seraphine.

They were a little pricier than I wanted to spend for maternity trousers as I've only 7 weeks left in work (go off in 9 but taking 2 weeks holiday before then!)
My regular work trousers are getting far too uncomfortable now though and they are too hot! Just keep telling myself that cost per wear I can justify them 🤗

Yukka · 27/03/2019 16:38

@SnailorSwift that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks! x

Can't believe you only have 7 weeks left at work already. I'm on 11, minus a weeks hol in april.

How long does that give you before baby's due?

BirthdayKake · 27/03/2019 17:18

I've been booked in for the GTT because my dad's diabetic but I'm not going to it. Ridiculous!!

TwinkleDay · 27/03/2019 21:15

Hey hey I got my job after all that ! Grin 27 weeks tommorow and has my 25 weeks appointment today got to listen to baby's heartbeat sounded like a train and they measured my tummy but still not been weighed apparently they do that next time... in two weeks.

And I only have 40 days left in work until Mat leave 😁 and long weekend x

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 27/03/2019 21:17

I also have a GTT but only because my maternal grandfather was diabetic! First pg with DD entirely uneventful. Confused

Just looked at my shifts and if I leave work at 36 weeks I still have 12 weeks left (I only work two days a week so it's really only 24 days!)

9 weeks seems so close.

I'm getting very excited now - baby kicking me a lot and DH even felt it last night which was lovely.

Hope everyone doing well.

Yukka · 27/03/2019 21:27

@twinkleday congrats, glad it’s all sorted!

BeckyButterfly · 27/03/2019 21:35

13 working weeks left for me (not that I’m counting..!) 😂

Beckanne90 · 28/03/2019 07:05

Morning everyone,

I’m absolutely terrible at keeping up with this; I do read along but rarely sign in to mumsnet ha.

Weightgain- I’ve no idea...I dare not get weighed to find out. At booking my BMI was 21, but I’d already gained a fair bit because it’s usually around 18.5-19. I’m going for a stone and half since the start.

Maternity leave...I start in roughly 4 weeks and 4 days. I’m going off at 29 weeks, not really due to choice but I’ve been having a troublesome cervix and lovely bouts of tachycardia whilst driving from call to call...which in the pitch dark is no good.

It’s so strange to think some of you ladies are as far as 27 weeks; that seems a lifetime away 😂.

TwinkleDay · 28/03/2019 07:33

@Beckanne90 nice to hear from you. I know right my due date is 3 months today ! Xx

blueeyedviking · 28/03/2019 07:42

Morning all.

@Twinkleday Congrats on keeping your job! That's great news, must be a relief.

I saw my midwife yesterday for my 25 week apointment. She said that if between now and 28 weeks I have any days without movement (as I've already have a lot) to call her, she'll then listen in. If after 28 weeks then call hospital straight away.

I saw my boy's movement for the first time yesterday. So strange but also made it all much more real. He kicked so hard my belly shook several times.

Giraffe888 · 28/03/2019 08:23

Congratulations @twinkleday! X

I’m at the point where I’m starting to worry about weight gain. Got weighed this morning and I’ve put 2lb on this week which brings my pregnancy total gain to 7lb.

I know I’m eating too many ‘treats’ which I need to cut down on (I’ve got a sweet tooth so I have been having a treat most days 😳!).

What do you all have for little snacks? I need to eat every 3/4 hours otherwise I feel really sick. I’ve been having a little yoghurt, piece of fruit, rice cake something like that x

Beckanne90 · 28/03/2019 09:12

@Twinkleday that’s crazy. I was thinking though yesterday...if this one is anything like her sister I have 6 week and 4 days left or her brother, I would have 9 and half weeks left. I’m hoping it’s not the case but it’s a scary thought.

@Giraffe888, I wouldn’t worry too much; I think I was about 8lb heavier than my prepregnancy weight the day I went into labour with my ds2 as I’d dropped so much by booking my BMI was just less than 17. Ds was born the heaviest out of all of mine at a very reasonable 9lb. They take everything from our stores etc. I’m with you on the sweet tooth aswell, i keep telling myself I’m going to cut down on them but I never do 😂😂

OneMoreWish · 28/03/2019 14:35

@BirthdayKake one of my risks was my mum had type 2 diabetes.

There was actually a mix up with test results with my first preganancy. and I wasn't informed I had gestation diabetes ( you are told if you don't hear anything you don't have it) so I carried on as normal ( though not awful diet)
Did find it when I went for 4d scan and she found a deep pocket of liquid, asked if a had GD and I said no as had t heard and told me I needed urgent scan to check. I had 48 hour wait which I googled everything and if not GD then probability was genetic malformation. I cried and stressed so much in that time. Turned out at hospital I had gd but didn't get told.

Monitored with finger pricks and diet from then on ( weetabix and beans on toast were out - who would have thought?) and last two weeks I had metformin as my bloods started to get high overnight/ first thing in morning.

There are several real risks with having GD including bad outcomes for baby so I would really recommend getting the test just to rule it out.

I ended up giving birth to a baby who was 11 pound 10 ounces. My family do have big babies but not that size and I think it was late diagnosis with GD. Luckily there were no problems with my baby's sugar levels or overall health.

Xx
