giraffe888 not a lot! But I understand 39 weeks is the usual!

StargazyDrifter · 09/05/2019 00:44

Mine is also a planned section and will be at 39 weeks. That said, no actual date as yet.

Feeling exhausted and a bit short tempered, but also finding it hard to sleep. Had a hospital appt today, got checked in and had to stand because the waiting area seats were all full. Another pregnant lady offered me her seat, to which I very pointedly said thank you but, given there are five men sitting down, perhaps one of them would be kind enough to spare either of us having to stand. They all looked at the floor. Eventually one got up. 🙄 Really annoyed me.

Kentishgal your swimming episode did make me laugh out loud.

blueeyedviking · 09/05/2019 07:15

@stargazydrifter Good of you for saying something! People are so rude and selfish sometimes they deserve to be told.

Had my 31 week midwife appointment yesterday. Went well, baby was head down which explains always having to go to the toilet... he is probably using my uterus as a cushion.

And we finally ordered our pram (Bugaboo) and started on a list of names... its a challenge as have to work in both our first languages (English and Norwegian) ☺

StargazyDrifter · 09/05/2019 08:19

blueeyedviking that's really good progress! We are also still thinking about the name, some family traditions/expectations are getting in the way a bit. I'm so keen to sort the name out with a clear head though, and not still be searching once she's born. We overthink it at the best of times! 🙈

Trying2bemum · 09/05/2019 10:20

@cravingmilkshake we're just on our way back from Dubrovnik. I had a bit of a funny turn on the flight over and had to sit with my head between my knees for a bit - so watch out for light headedness and get your head low if you're feeling faint. I found I couldn't tolerate heat as much and recommend staying in the shade and drinking a lot of water - sip away constantly if you can. Have copy of your maternity certificate if you can - to prove how many weeks you are. We had some questions from BA check in staff and they told me to have my certificate ready for the cabin crew to see too. I think you need to be a bit more careful around food too - I've picked up a bit of a stomach bug and guessing it must be from salad as we've eaten stuff like pizza, pasta and burgers otherwise. That said we've had a lovely time and it's been special having bump and having some pics to look back on. Very relaxing too! Have a lovely time.

Trying2bemum · 09/05/2019 10:22

@blueeyedviking which bugaboo did you go for? I think we are going for the Chameleon. We live in London but love to go walking and want a pram that can handle both ideally.

Capybaras · 09/05/2019 11:21

@Trying2bemum we've gone for the bugaboo fox! Loved it when we tried it out - was so easy to manoeuvre! Glad you had a lovely holiday - shame about getting a bad stomach/funny turn but sounds like you had a lovely time otherwise.

This baby likes to play funny buggers, really quiet this morning and then as soon as I start thinking this isn't right he kicks right off, having a rave I think!

OneMoreWish · 09/05/2019 12:52

I've got gestation diabetes :(

Really hoped I wouldn't get it this time :(

Feeling a bit down

blueeyedviking · 09/05/2019 13:03

@cravingmilkshake I got those compression socks which really helped with the swelling - and also stayed in the shade as much as possible. I also used higher sun cream than normal as the sun really gets to you quicker when pregnant.

@stargazydrifter We have the same... We've decided to make a top three/five list and not share it with anyone. When the baby is here we'll pick one and then share it. My FIL passed away in December so some of the inlaws are suggesting we name the baby after him, but I'm hesitant as 1. not massive fan of the name and 2. my dad passed away when I was young and I would want to honour him too. So just think it's better if we avoid family names all together.

@trying2bemum Went for Bugaboo Fox, really happy! It's arriving in 2 days actually. My best friend has it and it's so good. We looked at the Chameleon, but the smaller wheels put me off as I need something that will survive both London/Surrey and the Norwegian woodlands and snow. Also, felt that the Fox was easier to manoeuvre as @Capybaras mentioned

blueeyedviking · 09/05/2019 13:06

@onemorewish Sorry to hear that. What are the next steps? Hopefully someone else in the group have some advice..

thedust · 09/05/2019 13:06

@cravingmilkshake I flew with Easyjet at 29 weeks and they didn't ask anything. Certain airlines have different rules.

Feeling soooo unmotivated with work now. Started writing up my handover notes. I've got 18 working days left. Just feel so tired all the time and can't think straight, even writing an email was taxing.

Trying2bemum · 09/05/2019 15:56

@Capybaras @blueeyedviking I really liked the Fox too and still tempted. Worried it's a bit big for city use but I think I'd manage and probably appreciate having the bigger space underneath the pram. The Chameleon you can get bigger wheels and swap the small ones off if you're going "off road", but would we actually bother doing this? Think I need to go and have another go with them both

@OneMoreWish sorry to hear that xx

cravingmilkshake · 09/05/2019 18:42

Eugh, I've got Gestational Diabetes! This is my first pregnancy so feeling a bit shit to be honest. I also queried the result because the lady did the second test 1.5 hours after and not 2! The lady who told me sighed "why did she do that" they are still going to refer me to the dieticians who will re test and see but I'm so gutted!

@OneMoreWish how are you doing?

StargazyDrifter · 09/05/2019 20:45

blueeyedviking I agree on family names and I too don't think it's always a great idea to pass them on. I'm sure I read that in some cultures it's actively discouraged, something to do with limiting the child to the same constraints the previous name-bearer had? Though, of course, in others it's the opposite. We are also going to do a shortlist like you.

Sorry to hear about the diabetes. ☹️ Better to know and manage it though, I gather it can be very mild too.

I'm also not really capable of concentrating at work any more. Everything is difficult and everything is a massive effort. And now I've left quite a lot of my handover stuff a bit too late so will have to have one final push to finish it all.

Trying2bemum glad you had a lovely time despite the funny turn/tummy. What an amazing memory for you three!

Trying2bemum · 09/05/2019 21:02

Sorry to hear that @cravingmilkshake xx

Thanks @StargazyDrifter hope you're doing well love xx

Kentishgal · 09/05/2019 21:57

Sorry to hear about the GD - I don't have any experience or knowledge but hope it's all manageable and, just think, probably only another 9-12 weeks-ish to go - you can get through it! V envious about the trips abroad - and lots of admiration - I'm too much of a wimp to face it at this stage! I was just thinking today, my daughter was born at the end of November so you could just layer her up in clothes, hats, mittens to keep her warm - but what does a newborn in July wear? Do they still need those things during the first few days or will it just be vests? Sorry probably a stupid question. It's just every picture you see of a new born the seem to be wrapped up warm!

Jxtina86 · 09/05/2019 23:09

@Kentishgal the question about newborn attire in the summer was one of the questions at my NCT class last night! Apparently they will cover it at some point but it was nice to know I wasn't alone in wondering!

Sorry to hear those who have been diagnosed with GD. Fingers crossed it can be easily managed and doesn't have any adverse effect on the remaining weeks ahead!

I just got changed for bed and noticed my chest has become super veiny - I'm quite pale anyway but it's like my skin is now semi-translucent over my veins! It's so weird... anyone else?! Presume it's to do with milk production starting to kick in?!

Capybaras · 10/05/2019 06:30

@Jxtina86 @Kentishgal I'm confused about what baby wears too. Feel completely clueless about how you look after baby once they're here!

My chests been mega veiny for a while, and I've been leaking colostrum (from one breast only at the moment).

Struggling to sleep in past 7:00 now which is so annoying as I'm so tired throughout the day. Only 5 weeks left in work now, can't wait to be done!

Kentishgal · 10/05/2019 06:53

Jxtina86 ok good so its not just me - please let me know what they say when you have that session!! Came down with a cold or something last night - been awake with it most of the night. Also, my daughter has been waking and wanting to come in our bed at about 5am every morning for last few months and once I'm awake then that's it, feel shattered! 😏

TwinkleDay · 10/05/2019 07:39

@Jxtina86 they teach you about clothing baby in Nct classes.

Here's a question, would you name your child after your dad- whilst dad is still alive- touch wood, both baby and grandad would have diffrent surnames, and he has a nice name ?

StargazyDrifter · 10/05/2019 07:56

Kentishgal we start NCT next weekend (over two weekends) so I will keep an ear out! No idea either. Read somewhere that newborns need a hat whatever the weather within 12-24 hours of birth but I don't even know how accurate that is.

Another one here all veiny. My belly seems to have also got some in the last week, looks like a sort of map.

And also very tired all the time. I can't seem to get enough sleep and routine work pressure/to do list feel disproportionately tiring and stressful somehow. Then that makes me feel all sicky again.

DH very politely said to me last night: "I don't know whether you're aware, but your nipples are changing shape AND colour...". 😂😂😂

Trying2bemum · 10/05/2019 09:40

I've suddenly got really veiny too. Noticed on holiday and it freaked me out a bit Shock

Kentishgal · 10/05/2019 10:52

stargazydrifter at least he was very British and polite about it! Re the family names thing, we named my daughter after my mum's middle name/my nan's name but only did so because it was a name we really liked and, at the time, my mum's dementia was getting really bad so we told her we would be naming her that when she had enough awareness - by the time my daughter was born she didn't have a clue who any of us were - so I'm glad we got to tell her. But we wouldn't have done it if we didn't love the name. This time, it's a bit awkward as my mother-in-law passed away last August and we're also getting loads of pressure from my father-in-law to use a family name. The problem is though that my mother-in-law's name is pretty horrid (i've offered to use as a middle name but fortunately my husband says no) and also I can't stand my in-laws - they have little to no redeeming features..and my husband admits it himself....so we're going with something entirely different and will deal with the fall out!!

thedust · 10/05/2019 11:52

I'm not a fan of family names to be honest. My BIL has the same name as my FIL. It gets so confusing! I guess having a generation between isn't too bad. We have chosen a middle name though that is my great-aunties name. My grandparents are Spanish so we wanted a nod to the Spanish heritage and she is an awesome woman, 98 years old! My cousin named her daughter after my Nana who is still alive.

Hoping to go shopping this afternoon for a few bits for my hospital bag, if these electricians turn up. Given us a slot of 8-1 so of course they'll turn up in the last hour 😩

blueeyedviking · 10/05/2019 17:13

So good to hear I'm not overreacting re this family name thing. I agree, if it's a name you really like then its nice but no point doing it just for the sake of it. I'm also tempted to skip middle names all together! My DH has two, never used them.

@stargazy I know the feeling of how much work drains you in the third trimester. I haven't started my handover notes and have 5 weeks left. There is just too much going on and I'm spending a lot of time on people management. Next week my boss is away so I'm also managing additional tasks + a new intern.

Sleeping is getting harder and harder too. 2 months to date today, have a feeling the next few weeks will fly by!
