thedust just stood in a grey wet train station reading your message - I'm not jealous at all...have a fab time! I think from the moment I saw the second pink line on that test I gave up with work - although I won't be saying that in my annual review today! I still care about the clients - just not all the other rubbish that goes with it. Still 10 weeks left at work - wondering if I should give up before.

Kentishgal · 25/04/2019 07:57

JSCRJ I've said I'll work up until the day before my ELCS which is at 39 weeks. But wondering if I might regret that. My maternity clothes have all started getting really tight -.- really don't want to buy new ones at this stage - although think it's me that's fatter rather than baby.

Trying2bemum · 25/04/2019 08:03

Blueeyed your MIL sounds like a barrel of laughs Hmm sorry to hear about your back pain that sounds really rough

Jxtina what's a tommy tippee healthcare kit?

Twinkle that's amazing progress can you come and do our baby room lol Wink

Onemorewish I find once an anxious thought creeps in it's very hard to shift. Don't hesitate to give your midwife a call or text if you need reassurance Smile

I can relate to lots of discharge and also think baby had hiccups for the first time yesterday 🥰

Capybaras it feels like a while for me too now, and I'm with you on feeling unprepared. I have bought one set of newborn clothes and that's it... we have our John Lewis nursery appointment on the 3rd though so that should get us moving with stuff

I did order and have read the positive birth book - and recommend it. Some of its a bit airy fairy but most is good sense and covers all birth options from home birth to caesarean. It's made me feel a bit more confident but also more nervous as it's made the birth part feel more real...

Baby feels so big now and can often feel big hard parts pushing up on the right side of my tummy. Always the right!! It has made its camp there and I only get kicks low down on left really. It also shoves it's head up under my ribs which is really great Hmm and very distracting if I'm in a meeting at work... it's pretty active which is very reassuring Smile

Jxtina86 · 25/04/2019 08:17

@Trying2bemum it's got a thermometer, mini nail clippers, toothbrush (clearly not that useful at first!), hairbrush, scissors, nasal aspirator thing and some other bits in a little case. Seemed quite handy- I wouldn't have paid full price for it but when i saw it reduced, I thought why not!

BeckyButterfly · 25/04/2019 08:26

@JSCRJ I'm another one working until I'm 39 weeks. I'll actually be 39+2 😩 I'm determined to keep going though because that's the start of the summer hols. It'll mean that I don't have to start getting my mat pay until the baby is actually born so I'll get paid for a bit of the summer holidays. I'm already reigning in my additional responsibilities though and have prior warned my boss that if it gets too much, I might have to spend more time on office duties as opposed to actively teaching.

I've got my glucose test this morning at 10am. I'm also going to see if they'll check her over as she had a really quite day yesterday in terms of movement. She often has one quiet day after a couple of active ones but again this morning I haven't felt much so starting to get a bit worried. I'm hoping they'll pop me on the monitor between blood tests since I have to wait in the hospital for 2 hours anyway. So we'll see what they say. I might ring before I go to check with them rather than trying to find someone to ask about it once I'm there.

Trying2bemum · 25/04/2019 08:32

@Jxtina86 aww that does sound handy

@BeckyButterfly I find that LO has a quieter day after more active days too, hopefully all fine xx

AIDE2424 · 25/04/2019 09:02

I finish on the 4th June for annual leave but mat pay doesn’t begin till 12th July. My job is full on 16 hour shifts so thought it was best to use annual leave on this side of maternity leave instead of the other end. I’ve just had 2 weeks annual leave and go back Sunday and really not looking forward to it :(

Had my GTT test yesteray so hoping it all comes back clear.

Hope your all well x

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 25/04/2019 09:12

Does anyone know how long it takes for the results of gestational diabetes test to be available? I know it might vary from area to area, but just looking to get a rough idea of when to expect my results

thedust · 25/04/2019 09:13

@JSCRJ the heat isn't too bad, it's the start of the season here so low 20s and cool at night. Resort is very quiet too, it only reopened last week for the summer. The only annoying thing has been the chub rub from having bare legs! Oh and I've ate way too much at breakfast and now feel a bit sick because my stomach doesn't have enough room anymore. 😂

I find baby has quiet days and more active days too. She was very quiet on the day we travelled here which made me worry a bit, still felt a bit of movement. Then yesterday she's been moving lots on my right side. I could feel a lump, maybe a limb, on my right side quite clearly! Can't quite figure out what position she's in, maybe head down with feet at the top right and arms bottom left as I sometimes feel little flutters low down on that side.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 25/04/2019 09:33

Lovely reading (trying to catch up on all the posts!) about babies movements! Yesterday we could see her pokes for the first time. Amazing watch her move around in there Grin

Yukka · 25/04/2019 09:42

GTT test here aswell currently in the 2 hour wait at hospital... they told me results would prob come tomo but they’ll only call if there’s an issue.

Movement is fairly good here, have the odd quiet day too but at 26.4 that’s pretty normal.

Finish work in 7 weeks, struggling with getting replacement, my boss seems to want a clone..... I’ve applied lots of pressure yesterday to decide as the lady I found is perfect in my view!

StargazyDrifter · 25/04/2019 10:33

GTT this morning as well, had my drink (ewww) and waiting now. The baby seems to have gone bonkers in there, must be all the sugar.

I too have quieter and more active days, and I feel like when I'm relaxing and rested she probably moves less than when I'm at work. I wonder if the odd rush of adrenaline in the office when things get frantic affects her as well and makes her move more. Or maybe I notice it more when I'm trying to concentrate! Pretty sure they all think I've lost my mind. I have a bit of expertise in a particular technical area and yesterday I couldn't even remember its name in a meeting! 🤦‍♀️

Also dropping all the additional work stuff I do and just focussing on my actual job, it's kind of liberating to just do what you love and not the rest of it.

Trying2bemum that's really useful that the Positive Birth Book has c-section stuff as well. I will get it. Thank you for mentioning it. 😊

thedust your holiday sounds lovely. 💜

On rashes and chafing, I've been using the Weleda Calendula nappy rash cream. Works really well.

Finishing work at 32 weeks to take a lump of annual leave before mat leave on 1 July. I'm having a c-section so it's likely to be at 39+2 or so. Feels a bit close now!

Yukka · 25/04/2019 11:48

Memory: got my own date of birth wrong this morning . . . .

StargazyDrifter · 25/04/2019 11:52

😂 very familiar!

I have to say the GTT stuff has left me even more spaced out, can't wait to finish.

BeckyButterfly · 25/04/2019 12:04

I'm waiting for my second lot of bloods too. I AM SO HUNGRY I COULD EAT MY OWN ARM! 😂

They popped me on the monitor to check baby and everything was fine. She went crazy as soon as they hooked me up so made me look like a fool 😂

StargazyDrifter · 25/04/2019 13:03

Glad she was ok Becky, always better to check.

That GTT drink has 75g of sugar in it, no wonder it's so icky! Pleased to be home now.

Kentishgal · 25/04/2019 13:55

The GTT doesn't sound v nice - hope they all go ok. I was just wondering - we did an ante natal course with nct in my last pregnancy - however, we're not doing anything this time because we don't have anyone to look after our daughter, I'm having a elcs and it might look a bit odd doing it for a second child - however, I'm contemplating doing the nct postnatal course instead - primarily to meet some other mums locally and for a bit of a refresh - has anyone done the postnatal course and do you have any thoughts on this?

Yukka · 25/04/2019 14:08

good to get checked though @beckybutterfly if there's ever a time to be extra cautious in your entire life, its now, in my opinion!

StargazyDrifter · 25/04/2019 14:23

Kentishgal my friend is doing this with NCT, I think. It's specifically for people who already have children.

www.nct.org.uk/courses-workshops/antenatal-courses/antenatal-services/nct-refresher-antenatal

OneMoreWish · 25/04/2019 16:03

I looked at doing the refresher course as I wanted to make friends with people who would be off again when I would be ( and already had a child - not sure what a group of ftms would think if I brought my toddler along haha)

In Liverpool they weren't running a refresher course - I emailed them and I just got a reply back asking if I was signing up to the original course ( totally missing the point of what I had said in email)

I did speak to a mum with two children who told me it would be different this time and I wouldn't get as much time to meet up with ftms with babies because of toddler ( you plan stuff to do with toddler and baby comes along) she said will still make friends so I hope so

Midwife been and measured my
Tum and it's 30cm - above average but not surprised with last baby

OneMoreWish · 25/04/2019 16:09

@Kentishgal I think with second time mum's they see you less than with first. In your folder there should be a table somewhere showing at what weeks midwife should see you/ bloods checked ( and will highlight whether it's all mum's or ftms)

Saying that I feel like I see my midwife also as much as first but not sure if that's because I'm with 1-21 midwives or not..

Kentishgal · 25/04/2019 16:32

Thank you stargazydrifter - I saw that but unfortunately it's not running in my area - the nearest one (which is quite far away) is on a Saturday so we would have child care issues unfortunately! Yes I did wonder that - whether baby might get dragged along to things with my daughter! onemorewish - I thought the same - I think she is also just not arranging them for when I see the consultant (so i'm due to see him at 34 weeks so she just skipped that appointment) - but the hospital don't do any of the checks the midwives do (consultant appointments are about the birth really not the pregnancy) so not sure how that works - i.e. I'll be nearly 37 weeks when I next have a urine test or blood pressure taken - surely that's a bit risky?! I'm sure it'll be fine in reality - I just wanted hand holding!

Chinks123 · 25/04/2019 16:52

I haven’t seen a midwife since 20 weeks. Due to see one at 28 weeks, and then she said they barely see us after that..I know it’s my second but i do feel it’s a long time between appointments.

Since my movement scare he’s come out of his awkward position and is back to moving every minute of every day and his rolls and kicks are huge! Dp asked if it was nice and relaxing having a few days not feeling anything Confused He has a very blasé everything’s fine attitude-I’m glad he was right though obviously!

Kentishgal · 25/04/2019 17:24

I'm sorry I'm going to have another rant (I'm clearly angry at the world rather than emotional) - why is it that every time I get on this bloody train nobody offers their seat up? I had to walk past loads of people in priority seats before I found a seat tucked behind a table next to someone spilling over into it.

Chinks123 · 25/04/2019 17:52

I had this the other day @Kentishgal. A woman actually slapped her husbands arm and made him get up Blush I did the whole British “oh no no it’s ok” even though my back was aching, just because he looked so put out by having to stand up.
