Kentishgal DH and I didn't let him get beyond one name! Too weird. We do have a name, though also telling family we don't, but still after middle names that reflect family heritage which is how all this came about.

I usually use Aveda too but it wasn't doing enough so switched to this volume one. Tbh I think we just have to ride it out! Have you tried the dry shampoo spray from Boots? Feels a bit I icky but looks ok.

cravingmilkshake · 15/04/2019 08:56

Morning ladies,

I got a plethora of appointments at my 25 week midwife appointment last week. First up this morning is my whooping cough jab! Smile

I hope you are all well? I'm feeling great at 26 weeks!

BeckyButterfly · 15/04/2019 09:53

@StargazyDrifter a lady I know who works in beauty said that the hormones in pregnancy change the chemical make up of your hair which means that hair dye doesn’t take the same way it would usually. That’ll be why your hair dyes aren’t doing the trick! I haven’t had my hair dyed since the start of December and it is looking very interesting to say the least..!

Kentishgal · 15/04/2019 17:11

No I haven't - I'll have to give that a go stargazydrifter. To be honest, my hair is fine and not exactly luscious at the best of times when I'm not pregnant!

thedust · 15/04/2019 17:34

I've taken the bull by the horns and I'm organising my own baby shower. FIL now knows we're having a girl so that's made it a bit easier. Not that I want everything pink everywhere. Just hiring a nice local cafe for the afternoon to have afternoon tea with family.

I've also got a 'mum date' with a mum I've been messaging on the Mush app following someone recommending it here. I'm a bit nervous! And I've also been talking to someone who is on our NCT course next month.

TwinkleDay · 15/04/2019 18:34

My hair is actually growing loads and in great condition, so much so I have loads of new growth coming through too and short angles probably from the pregnacare plus I'm taking ...

I am planning On getting the chop in june though and donating some locks to the little princesses trust... I don't want loads of hair, the heat of summer and baby to deal with at once... it will grow back and I have never died it x

Kentishgal · 15/04/2019 19:19

twinkleday I'm still taking pregnacare max too - where's my luscious hair and glowing skin?!? 😂

Trying2bemum · 15/04/2019 21:53

Love that pram cravingmilkshakes

We've got our John Lewis appointment in a few weeks, am looking forward to trying out a few prams and trying to understand car seats and so on.

Thedust good for you, why not organise exactly what you'd like. Good luck with your date!

I've taken charge by telling mum I don't want a baby shower and she's not to let my sisters organise one either... I said it would be nice to go out for lunch but no games or nonsense and just family, not loads of extras. Too stressful! Totally get some people want to go for it and why not - it's just not for me.

Stargazey I'm sure you looked lovely although I get the odd feelings of insecurity. I feel really big now - am loving it but at times feel a bit self conscious. Third trimester eek!!!

Seeing the midwife tomorrow, hopefully all on track 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 xxx

Capybaras · 15/04/2019 22:10

At what point should you take action over reduced moverments? Felt baby this morning, and lunchtime and a few little kicks around 6ish but only 1 proper kick since. Usually kicks a lot when I eat and he didn't, I've had a cold fizzy drink and been laying on my left side but not felt much bar the 1 kick and a few really faint flutters down near my pelvis. I have an anterior placenta so assuming it may be that he's in a position where I can't feel much, but just a bit worried that he hasn't been giving me his usual evening kicks!

cravingmilkshake · 15/04/2019 22:12

OMG @Trying2bemum the John Lewis appointment was amazing! We have absolutely no clues about car seats or the isofix base- they were not pushy and told us what was crap, what was good, what had passed relevant tests etc! We gained so much and came away with car seat and isofix base too!

Trying2bemum · 15/04/2019 22:25

@cravingmilkshake that's really good to know am looking forward to it!

@Capybaras i definitely have quieter days than others movement-wise. Yesterday not much but today loads again. See how bub is tomorrow I think and take it from there

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 16/04/2019 08:43

@Capybaras I went in on Sunday lunchtime, basically I hadn't felt baby move at all. Tried drinking, jumping laying down. Nothing worked. The midwife was really lovely said not to sit at home and worry but to always call and get advice from them.
I also have an anterior placenta. Baby had moved to behind the placenta, she picked up movements on the dopla which I couldn't feel because of where baby was hiding.

28 weeks today! Welcome to the third trimester!

BeckyButterfly · 16/04/2019 10:29

@Capybaras I’ve been having the same issues (anterior as well) It’s really unnerving. I was thinking of ringing my midwife today just to ask her what she’s thinks. I imagine it is just when she moves to a different position but I don’t want to be too laid back about it.

blueeyedviking · 16/04/2019 13:46

Hi everyone

I'm back from holiday, was so nice to get away with the DH. A bit of sun did wonders to my greasy skin too. Back is still a mess though, wearing a pregnancy belt every day now...

Re lack of movement, I would also call the midwife. Mine was very clear to call if a bit worried, will reassure you as well.

Cant believe I'm in 3 trimester now either. In Spain it was 28 degrees at one point, my feet were so swollen! And got heartburn yesterday for the first time, not nice!

My maternity cover has been sorted. A girl in my team is stepping up. She is great, but I must admit it feels very weird...

Capybaras · 16/04/2019 14:20

I ended up calling the midwife centre as we were worried, but whilst waiting for them to call back baby started moving loads! But they were really nice and said to call anytime movements have changed or to pop down for reassurance. Baby's been moving normally today so must have just been where I can't feel him! Glad we called though. Would rather feel silly for calling than miss something!

Ah glad you had a lovely holiday @StargazyDrifter I'm starting to struggle with my back a bit, but managing at the moment. Can't believe we've reached the third trimester either, feeling a bit more real that a baby is coming!

Trying2bemum · 16/04/2019 14:32

Glad it was all okay capybaras

blueeyedviking I think someone from my team will step up and cover my role too. It's very odd thinking about it - I love my job!

Saw the midwife this morning - she had a student with her so everything was repeated. They talked about movement a LOT and said to call or go in if you notice any change. I'm 26 weeks tomorrow and uterus measurement was 27 cm - so a little on the big side but they didn't seem overly worried. They listened into the heartbeat which was nice, and took bloods to check my iron again. Reassuring to check in with them!

Kentishgal · 16/04/2019 14:59

Glad you had a nice holiday blueeyedbiking. My midwife hasn't mentioned a word about movements - in fact, she hasn't even asked if I'm feeling movements. Got to see her next week - not looking fwd to it - she is very abrupt! I have some days where I can go all day without feeling movements and other days I feel her more. The hospital triage were really nice when I had a fall a couple of months back so I'm sure they'd be good about it - I just don't like to bother them - and luckily I usually get the odd kick after a while!

blueeyedviking · 16/04/2019 18:08

@tryingtobemum It really is odd isnt it. Im trying to focus on the bigger picture and the baby, but my career has been everything to me up until now (besides my family, friends and DH). So its weird pausing that for a while...

@kentishgal - she sounds hard work! But apparently we are to call midwives pre 28 weeks if worried about movement, and hospital after 28 weeks.

Had my 28 week midwife today. Measuring on track so that made me happy.

@capybaras - im relying on baths, heat patches and maternity belt! Also just doing way less, so weird not carrying my own suitcase for example!

thedust · 16/04/2019 19:11

Totally get you on the career front, we're interviewing for my replacement when I get back from holiday, it's gonna be so weird. I've found the whole process quite anxiety inducing to be honest!

I feel huge today, I can't really believe that I've got 13 more weeks of growing to do! I feel so bloated and uncomfortable after eating.

StargazyDrifter · 16/04/2019 19:58

Totally with you on career/replacements and on doing less - it's such an odd feeling. One of the guys in my team will probably step up to cover for me, even through I trained him and should be proud that he's good, I can't help but feel a bit strange about it.

Today has been a really hard-going day, even though it's been light on work/meetings. Literally everything is a struggle - making the bed, getting to work, going to buy a card at lunch time... it all feels like a massive struggle. 🙄 Also very swollen feet for not apparent reason today. Surely it doesn't all hit you at once 2 days into the 3rd trimester!

Kentishgal my MW experiences are also mostly torturous. No assigned MW at my hospital and they all say different things and take no responsibility. I am overdue a GTT but no one will coordinate. I'm going to have to just turn up there tmrw and insist on a slot.

Kentishgal · 17/04/2019 10:29

Thanks blueeyedviking I hadn't realised that about the 28 wk cut off - I've only ever rung midwife once throughout both pregnancies so I'm hoping I'll get through the next 6 days without needing to!! stargazydrifter that's v harsh - I'd just do as you plan and turn up! I think the dreaded fluid retention has hit - can feel the start of the carpel tunnel during the night - and my rings are all tight etc - I had terrible cankles last time!

thedust · 17/04/2019 12:20

I've not had any swelling yet but I just can't believe I'm pretty much in the 3rd trimester now! Shock I'll be 28 weeks on Sunday. It has gone SO fast. I was thinking I've got 13 weeks to go but it might be even less than that if I'm early as my mum keeps insisting I will be.

I certainly feel big already. Made the mistake of weighing myself this morning. Hit the 2 stone weight gain mark Sad my thighs are all cellulitey too, I hope I don't feel too self conscious in a swimsuit next week on holiday. I also did a video call with DH last night as he was working away and god, my FIL was right when he said my face was fattening up!

RooKangaroo · 17/04/2019 14:43

This 28-week deadline for the GTT, how strict is it?

I know I am supposed to have it, but haven't heard anything about this yet. Can't remember how it worked last time or when it happened.

I'm 27 weeks this weekend, so it would need to be done by the weekend after. Should I chase, or could I still get a letter in the post about it?

Jxtina86 · 17/04/2019 14:55

@RooKangaroo I think it depends on the trust. Mine recommended between 24 and 28 weeks but that was because they knew I was at risk so I got an auto booked appt. However I've read other people being invited to go in post 30 weeks because something was flagged in later bloods or urine or scan to indicate a possible issue to just check.

JSCRJ · 17/04/2019 17:14

@thedust my face is definitely fattening up! I keep trying to do my make up differently to slim it, but it's definitely not helping! A colleague was commenting on my bump size (standard) and then said, "you've not put too much weight on, just on your face!" Um, thanks for that!

Starting to feel heavy now. I've got my 28 week midwife appointment tomorrow and am dreading being weighed!

I work in weddings so things are just starting to get really busy and I just don't have the energy! I think it's going to feel like a long time until maternity leave starts!
