@onestep2 when they say birth plan they mean things like where you want to give birth, what pain relief you want to try, what kind of atmosphere you want like music, dim lights etc. if you want OH to be the one who tells you the sex , if OH is cutting the cord

Capybaras · 11/04/2019 19:11

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts you'll only be tested for GDM if you have a risk factor:

  • BMI greater than 30
  • family history of type 2 diabetes
  • previous big baby
  • PCOS
  • BAME (certain ethnic groups are at higher risk)
  • GDM in previous pregnancy

But if you're concerned that you may have GDM I would give your midwife a call and ask if you can be screened. You will be more thirsty in pregnancy but if you're constantly thirsty it could be a sign of it, and it's better to be diagnosed sooner rather than later (for you and baby!)

Hope everything went ok with the scan @cravingmilkshake

TwinkleDay · 12/04/2019 07:29

Morning ladies I had my appointment on Wednesday for my 28 weeks however now 29+1 they say baby is measuring big and was right on the upper line of the centile chart thing... surely that's because my appointment was 6 days away from being on the dot... May need a growth scan when I go back weight gain normal for my BMI 22lbs or 10kg...

In other new the restructuring at work came out yesterday and two members of the team have been made redundant at our place and dozens across other siTes... I was that person to start the water works I blame my hormones .. it's awful

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/04/2019 08:00

@TwinkleDay did they say how many weeks ahead you measured at ? I've had growth scans with previous pregnancies but was told they only really do it if you're measuring +/-3 weeks ?

Onestep2 · 12/04/2019 08:37

@yukka @reginaphalange89 thank you! i found a template online and i didnt realise how much you should be considering before birth!
will have a nother bash at it before next appointment

TwinkleDay · 12/04/2019 11:26

@ReginaPhalange89 no they didn't say... pregnancy was planned throughout so it can't be more than a day out lol.. flash back to the 4th/5th October

Maybe it's just a giraffe in there 🤷🏻‍♀️

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/04/2019 11:50

It can just be the way baby is lying , I'm sure it's nothing to worry about . My bump last pregnancy was measuring 4 weeks behind so had a growth scan and that said the opposite, big baby !

Yukka · 12/04/2019 18:22

@onestep with all 3 of my sisters and their 6 babies only one birth plan went to plan and that’s cos she had s planned c section 😂

I guess think about the things you can be prepared for that will help you in a stressful situation and also to face the unknown/unpredictable too.

@twinkleday glad you escaped redundancy. Growth scan might put minds at rest but measuring the bump isn’t wholly accurate in my view it’s just an indication. You could be full of fluid today. I had growth scan on Wednesday and they independantly measure legs head tummy, as well as the amniotic fluids so it was really accurate, you can’t get that from a bump measure.

TwinkleDay · 13/04/2019 07:12

@Yukka thank you will keep you updated for the next time I go back

Only 28 more working days to go!

Yukka · 13/04/2019 07:53

Very jealous Yukka! Have a lovely time!

thedust · 13/04/2019 17:47

Have a lovely time @yukka!

We told my FIL the sex today, he didn't want to know but realising everyone else knew already made him want to know. So that's a relief really. I can add some cute girly things onto our Amazon baby list now!

I've got a very weird rash under my right armpit, it's just very red and a bit sore. I've definitely been sweating more and usually more on my right side too but I do shower and wear deodorant! I've slathered a lot of sudocrem on it today. The glamour of pregnancy!

thedust · 13/04/2019 17:51

Oh and my FIL also said to me 'your face is fattening up nicely'!!! How rude!

Giraffe888 · 13/04/2019 19:40

How nice of FIL @thedust!!!

JSCRJ · 14/04/2019 08:34

Morning everyone. Happy Sunday! Anyone have any advice on dry hair? My hair has literally never been as dry as it is now, it's all breaking off at the front and looks frizzy and awful. I've been using leave in conditioner, hair oil and heat protection spray and nothing can touch it. My hairdresser said it was just one of those things, but I'm starting to resemble a scarecrow! I thought it was supposed to be luscious and fast growing through pregnancy and that this would come after?!!

wombatron · 14/04/2019 10:00

@JSCRJ it depends on your hair type really. I would avoid things like coconut oil as if your hair isn't lacking in protein it can make it worse, though an olive oil masque could help? I've my skin really dry but my hair is fine. I use Uniq1 in coconut and it's lovely for a leave in. What shampoo do you use? Maybe try and find a more gentler one for a bit if it's got sulphates in

cravingmilkshake · 14/04/2019 14:16

Hi all!

We have bitten the bullet and purchased the travel system and car seat and isofix base! £1100 lighter 😩 but in love with it. We went for the silver cross pioneer:

www.johnlewis.com/silver-cross-pioneer-pushchair-orkney/p3623366

JSCRJ · 14/04/2019 16:25

Thanks @wombatron, I'll give an olive oil masque a try. Annoying when you don't feel your best anyway only for your hair to start falling out!

@cravingmilkshake we have this pushchair too! We assembled it a couple of weeks ago and it's lovely! It's living at my mums but I can't wait to start using it. We got the car seat too, just need to buy the isofix base (after payday!)

BeckyButterfly · 14/04/2019 16:33

@JSCRJ I feel your pain on the hair front! Mine is bloody awful 😩 I have really thick hair but it is like straw at the minute and no matter what I try to do with it, it looks like crap. Loads of people keep telling me that my hair should be lovely because I’m pregnant...well it’s bloody not!!

mrsof20118 · 14/04/2019 21:33

@JSCRJ mine is the same. I'm back to using Philip Kingsley elasticizer which has worked on my hair before when dry. Worth a go maybe?

StargazyDrifter · 14/04/2019 23:08

My hair hasn't been great either. It usually does better with a bit of Moroccan oil but, last week when I tried that, it ended up all heavy and stuck together on the outside (despite several washes) and not really any better structurally. I've found that the John Frieda volume shampoo and conditioner help a bit. But really it's all a bit frustrating. Home hair dye doesn't seem to be doing what I would usually expect it to either, perhaps because of the dryness. Would like to sort it all for Easter but not looking likely.

Was at a big family do this weekend and dressing smartly was a bit of a challenge. Just didn't feel very comfortable or presentable really. I know it's a tiny thing in the scheme of it all, but it's left me feeling a bit down.

The highlight of the whole weekend was FIL taking me to one side to say that, since the family conversation over dinner about girl names wasn't very fruitful, he's got some more suggestions based on his ex-girlfriends, as long as I didnt tell MIL. 😂😂😂

28 weeks today. I think that's officially the start of the third trimester. 💥

Kentishgal · 15/04/2019 07:17

stargazydrifter that's hilarious - has he ranked them in order of preference for you? What an odd thing to do! My husband told his dad we didn't have a name (we do) so his step-mum kept sending me suggestions (all Scottish names since they are Scottish). Drove me insane - especially as I'm not particularly fond of his parents. My hair is static and greasy - an odd combination - I usually use aveda but recently changed to neales yard so not sure if it's the shampoo or hormones - won't be using it again once this lots gone...But it's certainly not thick and luscious - I never tie it back but I've had to at the moment!
