@PhoebeBear I had a water birth with ds1. I didn't get in the pool until about 7cm dilated (I think if you get in too early it can slow labour down) and he was born about half an hour later. The water definitely helped with pain relief and it was wonderful lifting him myself from between my legs (I gave birth kneeling then turned over, midwife gave him a little nudge to bring him to the front). I didn't get the chance with DS2 as there was no pool available so my advice would be don't set your heart on it. I am hoping for another one this time though 🤞🏻

ScotsBaby2 · 18/05/2019 18:26

I loved the water in labour!

I have the Positive Birth Company's Hypnobirthing digital pack. I love the videos. It makes so much sense. It's not expensive so might be worth a try before a full class. You can refer to it loads.

@scotsbaby2 @keebo I haven't seen my lady garden in weeks! But my ankles are swollen and squishy!

@lostlobster- welcome! We've also been sorting the spare room.. it's painted and new curtains up.. and I spent today putting away all our baby stuff... (is that called nesting?)

Discovered that sleeping sitting (almost) up is much more comfortable than trying to lie on my side and having to turn over over half an hour because my hips hurt. And it has the added bonus of reducing my sciatica!

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

lostlobster · 18/05/2019 20:17

@Bakingabean it sounds like you’re nesting, I am too!. The house gets cleaned daily.

Jokie · 19/05/2019 12:54

Hi all :)

Welcome @lostlobster to the group.

@keebo: yep, we did hypnobirthing with #1 and it was useful to have some techniques but when it came to the "crunch" of labour, nothing helped!

I'm "nesting" by doing a spring clean of everything and getting rid of things we don't need anymore.

milly2000 · 19/05/2019 13:06

How's everyone's weight gain going? I've put on 11kg so that's 1st 10Ibs. I no I shouldn't worry about it but I've always been a bit of a weight watcher so it's hard to let it go!!

EverythingNow · 19/05/2019 16:09

Hi everyone, I lost this thread but found you all.again!

Like @scotsbaby2 I have the digital pack of the positive birth company but I must admit I've not listened for ages. I also do pregnancy yoga which has breathing techniques.

@milly2000 I started this pregnancy overweight and my consultant recently said to aim for about 8kg total gain. She said I'm likely to.start gaining from 28wks.

I dropped a little weight when I first found out but in the past couple of weeks I have started gaining. On my own scales today I've gained 1kg at 29wks but I'm big so it's not the same as someone who starts with a normal bmi. I gained 4.5st with my first!!!

Heartburn is making me vom, It doesnt bother me that much but in the morning it has all pooled in my throat and I am sick acid bile Sad

bubblegumunicorn · 19/05/2019 16:59

@milly2000 I'm down 2kgs at the moment from when I was weighed by the doctors in September/October I lost a lot at the beginning of the pregnancy so I think
I have put back on about 5/6kgs but not 100% I trust my own scales!

sacrecoeur0712 · 19/05/2019 17:35

@milly2000 I've gained 1st 6lb at 26 weeks - in both previous pregnancies total gain was around 2.5 stone. Try not to worry about it, it is normal but will vary a lot from one person to another.

mightypinkdms · 20/05/2019 06:34

Hi all - anyone else starting mat leave soon? Mine starts after half term, so only have four working days to go (and they are half days due to ongoing mobility issues!). Seriously struggling to keep focused and get last bits of admin/teaching done - am so tired and in pain from pgp, just want to sleep and get comfortable! Birth seems a lifetime away but am so ready to start preparing for number 3! Starting hydrotherapy soon for extra relief. Anyone else struggling with pgp/spd?

Jelliestogether · 20/05/2019 06:55

@mightypinkdms nope I've still got 10 weeks to go (with a week of annual leave soon) so 9 working weeks. That'll take me to 37 weeks and then 2 weeks annual leave so officially start mat leave at 39 weeks. I'm trying to start mine as late as possible as I want as much of the time afterwards as possible. Plus currently it's been a straight forward pregnancy so far and currently feel pretty good.

OctoberGirl91 · 20/05/2019 07:24

My leave starts 28th May well annual leave and I have that in place till 13th July when maternity leave kicks in which two weeks before my section date as baby has gotta come early at 35/36 weeks due to placenta previa and bleeds. As it's DC3 I thought might as well use all my leave and finish when I can as I work evening/nights as well as my other two kids I am more than ready! xx

ScotsBaby2 · 20/05/2019 07:45

I finish teaching on 2nd July when I'll be 33 weeks. I then have 6 weeks of summer holidays and I will start my maternity leave bang on 40 weeks.

OP posts:
EverythingNow · 20/05/2019 07:49

I'm starting 1st July when I'll be 35wks. So 5 working weeks left as off for half term next week.
I've no really good reasons for finishing so early and he's bound to be over due as my other 3 were BUT you have to make a decision at 25wks and I've had PGD in my last 2 pregnancies, I will be 40, it's my 4th and our term doesn't finish until 24th July when I would be nearly 39wks which is too late. I finished later in previous pregnancies but I was nearly 10yrs younger!!!
Id also like a few weeks chilling, dog walking, nesting whilst my others are at school.

sacrecoeur0712 · 20/05/2019 07:55

I'm self employed but I intend to work up until my kids break up for summer which is mid July, making me 35 weeks. Then I'll just have the relaxing task of keeping two boisterous boys entertained for 5 weeks!
It's exciting to hear everyone making plans though, it's all getting a bit real now Grin

clairelee17 · 20/05/2019 15:12

I'm waiting on c section date which will be at 39 weeks. That would be 4th August, but taking a week off on annual leave before that. So finish work on 26th July, although I assume I'll be working from home a lot in July given the tube commuting and hot weather. So will be pretty easy month I'd say. Only 10 more working weeks to go....wooo!

Jokie · 20/05/2019 15:24

I'm working til 5th July and then I'm forced to go on maternity leave so let's see how long I can last (my last baby came at 3days after I started maternity leave!)

Kathryn19 · 20/05/2019 17:50

I'm hoping to stay at work until August 16th (39 weeks) but I've had a straight forward pregnancy so far. Would definitely reassess if I was going through issues like spd/pgp. Have to admit my concentration levels are slipping each week though...!

Mondayblues7 · 21/05/2019 22:25

Hello my fellow Augusteers!

How is everyone doing so far?

My back is in agony!! I am 26+1 and have an office job. As previously mentioned they are a small.old school company , no hr department or anything. Haven't even seen a company handbook.

Gave my employer my letter regarding when I want to start Mat leave and he said it's been ages since they had anyone pregnant so he will get back to me regarding pay etc. Also how it's wonderful for me but a ball ache for the business!!

Anywho, so my back is killing come 4pm, I get up from my desk regularly and have a foot rest (pile.of catalogues under desk) but my back really can't take it.

Any advice on how I can approach this??

Jokie · 22/05/2019 04:24

@Mondayblues7: I have a similar one. You could look at getting yourself a back rest that will support your back during the day or look at a standing desk and see if that might be suitable for you. You can make a standing desk out of books and some wood but I would be talking to your boss about it.

Mondayblues7 · 22/05/2019 07:15

@Jokie thanks for the reply. Not sure they would allow me to modify my desk to a standing desk. I do have a back rest already, I bought one at the beginning of my pregnancy.

I barely slept last night as it hurts so bad, and it only doesn't hurt when I am laying on my back which we all know is a big no no. So I try not to do it for long.

About to go the gym and do some back exercises with the resistance bands and gym ball.

I am just going to grin and bare it I guess as I feel it's only going to get worse. :(

Hope everyone has a good day in this beautiful sunshine!!

Jokie · 22/05/2019 07:25

@Mondayblues7: have you been to the doctor's/physio with it? I know in my last pregnancy with a bad back they gave me exercises to help with it. I'm so sorry you didn't sleep well :( here's hoping the gym helps.

Another sore arm here from the whooping cough vaccine. Anyone else having theirs this week?

Mondayblues7 · 22/05/2019 07:34

@jokie my doctors are useless. Ever since my first appointment there last year, on every encounter I have had a problem. I am going to leave it a few days and see if it eases off but will book next week of it's no better .

Was in the room to have my whooping cough vaccine but they were running ridiculously late and their call in system wasn't working and I was told to wait in upstairs waiting room when in fact I had to be downstairs, after 45 minutes of waiting , nurse made out as if it was my fault! So I got up and left. Rebooked for next week.

Kathryn19 · 22/05/2019 07:40

@Mondayblues7 so sorry to hear you are struggling. Might be worth seeing if it is possible to self refer to physio in your area as agree doctors don't often help much with these things

sacrecoeur0712 · 22/05/2019 08:07

@Mondayblues7 have you looked at the setup of your desk and computer screen to help with back pain? In big companies you'd have a H&S assessment but I worked for a small company when pg with ds1 and they just don't have the resources for this sort of thing. But I find that if my monitor is on the desk I get neck/back pain because of poor posture. I have my monitor on a riser (a pile of books will do) which brings it up to eye level which helps my posture and stops me hunching (I do have to consciously draw my shoulders down from time to time, yoga helps!) If you google you'll find info on optimal set up for working at a seated desk for long hours.

@Jokie I had whooping cough vaccine a few weeks ago - the sore arm lasted about a week!
