New thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 22/02/2019 14:57

@Celebelly that’s given me renewed hope, I’ve felt a little bit crampy, very sporadic though and mild enough that I’m wondering if it’s just wishful thinking 😂

Will get on my yoga ball in a bit, maybe go up and down the stairs as many times as I can!

DeliberatelyGinger · 22/02/2019 17:03

Just been to the chiropractor for my hip pain and it turns out my pelvis got tilted. She says now we've done stuff to straighten it out it might make the baby move as it will make more room. Here's hoping. In the mean time I have to sit on my ball or hard chairs. 😞

1stTimeTina · 23/02/2019 08:33

Congrats @Susannach !!

Induction booked in tomorrow but I'm still hoping she comes on her own before then 🤞 another long walk on the cards today!

Susannach · 23/02/2019 08:36

Fingers crossed for you Tina!

mummymummymummummum · 23/02/2019 09:56

I'm the same @1stTimeTina. I've already pushed my induction date back once, don't think husband will tolerate me pushing it back again! I'll be 42 weeks, what about you? Mine is booked for 19:30! I'm normally in bed asleep by 21:00!

1stTimeTina · 23/02/2019 10:18

@mummymummymummummum I'll be 41 weeks tomorrow , booked in for 3pm so chances are she'll come the day after, I'm not sure how it all works to be honest and I don't want to stay overnight without my husband , I was hoping for a quick in and out natural birth 😟 I hate hospitals!
But on a positive note my order from lush arrived this morning so guna have a nice relaxing bath after my walk along the beach 👍 , there's an Easter egg in the fridge that may have to help me through it too haha x

mummymummymummummum · 23/02/2019 10:21

@1stTimeTina I'm just about to pop out for a solo trip to the supermarket and was contemplating a cheeky chocolate purchase to help things along too! 😋

1stTimeTina · 23/02/2019 10:35

@mummymummymummummum haha do it!

AvoidingMarking · 23/02/2019 14:57

Good luck with the inductions ladies. I didn't find mine bad at all. Not that I have anything to compare it to.

I'm so fed up now. Feel like this baby is taking ages but I'm not due until Monday. You guys at 41/42 weeks are incredible. X

1stTimeTina · 23/02/2019 20:14

@AvoidingMarking how long did your induction take if you don't mind me asking? I just keep hearing horror stories!

My beach walk doesn't look like it's worked so I've been making some flapjack ready for hospital tomorrow 😬

Lookingforadvice123 · 23/02/2019 20:17

Does anyone know what happens if you refuse an induction? I'm only 40+3 so really hoping it doesn't come to that, but I've already had two sweeps. I will outright refuse an induction, I've heard too many horror stories and I don't want to end up having a vaginal birth with an epidural due to the increased risk of forceps. I'd rather have an ELCS...

AvoidingMarking · 23/02/2019 20:32

@1stTimeTina of course I don't mind you asking. I was induced on my due date due to DD not growing (according to scans anyway). They put in a pessary at about 10am and removed it at 2pm as I was having contractions but my cervix wasn't dilating. They then put me on the drip at 3pm and it was much better after that as contractions were more regular and were actually doing something! They broke my waters at 9pm and she arrived at 1.17am.

Hope that helps. Not a horror story at all. Managed it on gas and air. I did ask for something stronger, but I thought in my head that it would take another day so I wanted to be able to sleep but it turned out it was time to push.

AvoidingMarking · 23/02/2019 20:35

Also, @1stTimeTina I just saw your post from earlier. my OH was allowed to stay the entire time and we ended up having to stay for a few days due to the strep B checks

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 23/02/2019 21:02

@Lookingforadvice123

I’m booked in on Tuesday for an induction as I’ll be 12 days over. They’ve put in my notes that I’ll be refusing it though and will opt for monitoring instead.

I am confident enough that my body holds into babies longer generally, plus... by my dates I was due 19th/20th, not the 14th that the scan put me as.

Statistically, induced labours have more complications than spontaneous ones, and that’s not something I am willing to risk because of their ‘one size fits all’ guidelines. They can’t make you do anything.. just be sure of your reasons and stand firm if it’s something you believe in.

I may change my mind dependant on the monitoring results, but at the moment I am confident that induction is not necessary for me.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 23/02/2019 21:05

My random question of the evening... how long is a long walk??

I feel like I’m a bit rubbish at it ☹️ I can usually walk for miles and miles, however.. the pressure/pain at the moment is limiting me. I walked a mile earlier, and was genuinely worried I wouldn’t make it home 😂

So... how long is long?

lanalawr · 23/02/2019 22:06

@Lookingforadvice123 a friend in a neighbouring health board to us refused an induction. Their policy was to monitor regularly (I think weekly) in hospital - trace and possibly scan.

@1stTimeTina if you want another non-horror induction story then here's mine. My waters broke and had a small amount of meconium in them so I went to be checked. My pulse was crazily high so I had to be transferred from the midwife unit to the consultant unit and they wanted to induce me. I held off for a few hours but due to concerns I started on the drip at about 3pm. I was already having irregular and mild contractions (but I've realised that I don't naturally feel particularly strong contractions). I warned them that I went quite quick at the end with my first but I'm not sure they believed me. Contractions were more intense on the drip but I was managing them with no pain relief although cuddles from dh helped a lot! I was starting to wonder how long I'd be able to cope without pain relief when I felt I needed to push. 12 mins later ds was born (that was 2.5 hours after the drip was started). The midwife had a bit of a shock with the speed of it and said it was her messiest ever delivery - probably because I was on the floor. It was much more intense and painful than my natural labour but manageable. I don't think I could have gone more than a few extra hours without pain relief but who knows. It was crazy how quickly contractions became stronger and more regular once the drip was started. I was told that it's quick to take effect but if it's too much for you then it's also quick to leave your system when it's turned off. They upped the strength every half an hour but I didn't make it to full strength because labour was progressing so quickly and well. I wouldn't choose an induction but it wasn't as bad as I expected.

1stTimeTina · 24/02/2019 00:44

Thanks @lanalawr and @AvoidingMarking that makes me feel a little better 😊

1stTimeTina · 24/02/2019 00:47

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking haha me and my husband were having that discussion yesterday, my definition of a long walk has certainly changed in these last few weeks!! Just depends what you can manage, each day is different for me. Yesterday I did half an hour and was in agony but today I did 1hr15 and felt ok (ish) . I would just say do whatever is comfortable for you, and take it slow 👍

mummymummymummummum · 24/02/2019 07:22

I was wondering if my walks weren't long as well! I did a really brisk 40 minutes one morning (midwife appointment so it had to be quick!) which seemed most effective. Had to lie down after though.

AvoidingMarking · 24/02/2019 08:08

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking I can walk for about 20 Minutes before getting an awful pain in my side. Sort of like a stitch but more as if I need to carry the bump? I've been walking every day but they certainly aren't as long as I'd normally do and definitely wouldn't be able to walk for an hour I don't think, unless I could sit regularly for a break which kind of defeats the object!

Lookingforadvice123 · 24/02/2019 08:19

Thanks both. I'm really hoping it won't get to that!

I have had some contractions this morning and last night, although nothing that woke me up so very infrequent. This morning since being awake I've probably only had
about 4 or 5 in the space of an hour. They're also still quite short, I'd say less than 45 seconds.

Hopefully it's things starting to happen though!!!

Alicejj8x · 24/02/2019 08:21

@babyp160
Yes she decided she couldn't wait for her due date and wanted to come 4 days early ahaha xx

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 24/02/2019 08:31

Our DD arrived yesterday evening.

Went in Friday to be induced at term as she was measuring big. Waters went at 12pm yesterday and she was born at 4:40 by emcs as she was just big and in an awkward position. 9lb 3oz in the end.

Good luck everyone who's still waiting x

AvoidingMarking · 24/02/2019 08:52

Congratulations @Thesnobbymiddleclassone

lanalawr · 24/02/2019 09:43

Congratulations @Thesnobbymiddleclassone !

Fingers crossed it's the start of something @Lookingforadvice123. Hopefully you'll be able to avoid an induction. You've still got another sweep booked too haven't you?
