Hi,

It looks like we filled up the last thread before anyone had a chance to start a new one, so here we go! Hope everyone finds their way over.

@twittlebee could you possibly link to the Google Doc again?

@karigan195 so glad you were seen again and got a bonus scan. Lovely to get a bit of reassurance too, hope the next 7 days go quickly for you.

Yay eggy! (Well, not about the placenta, but that's going to move anyway!)
That leaflet is really clear megan thank you!

MyBreadIsEggy · 07/03/2019 17:05

I really hope it moves Dusty! I’ve looked at statistics and apparently only 0.6% don’t move and end up in an elective csection, so those odds seem pretty good.
Honestly, having another baby in a hospital is literally my worst nightmare, so this placenta has to move!

Astret · 07/03/2019 17:45

Scan this morning, dated at 12+4 so new EDD of 15th! Very excited to see progress since 9 week scan. Face and limbs all clearly visible! Though they did have to prob a lot and nearly completely invert me to wake the little creature up. Awaiting combined blood results.

Awww astret what a cutie!

Whisky2014 · 07/03/2019 18:12

The thing that's making me feel ill is the placenta. Things like the baby tugging on the cord. The placenta dislodging and breaking away from uterus. Eugh makes me feel sick!

Easterbuns1 · 07/03/2019 18:22

@StarLight10 that's fine I will log onto the site rather than app to look for it

KnobJockey · 07/03/2019 18:43

What date have you got Eggy? Did it stay the same?

Astret, it's amazing isn't it! No longer a blob but a person instead!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 07/03/2019 19:16

@Megan2018 and @DustyDoorframes do you have a prescription for the baby aspirin or can you easily obtain from pharmacy at 75mg dose? All I can see are packs of 300mg. Did the pharmacist say anything when you asked for baby aspirin? I’m going to start taking this weekend assuming all fine with my scan

DustyDoorframes · 07/03/2019 19:19

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri I've a prescription but it's easy to buy over the counter.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 07/03/2019 19:22

@DustyDoorframes cool thank you - just slightly nervous as midwife said some pharmacists can be awkward and unwilling to sell when they know you’re pregnant. I suppose worst comes to worst I could always ask GP for prescription or get regular 300mg and divide into quarters until then

Megan2018 · 07/03/2019 19:25

GP wrote me a prescription for 75mg but I haven’t picked it up yet, as just got some in Boots and Tesco!

Megan2018 · 07/03/2019 19:26

These were just on shelf btw-pharmacist not required!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 07/03/2019 19:28

@Megan2018 thank you, that’s reassuring!

MyBreadIsEggy · 07/03/2019 19:30

Whisky Placentas are actually really cool when you see them!!
I was so interested to see the difference between the maternal and foetal sides and had real good look and poke around of mine after my second baby!
I’m a bit of a medical/science nerd though!!

Knob date was only a day out, I was working off of 19th Sept and today they’ve told me 20th Sept.
Theres only one occurrence of unprotected sex that could have resulted in this baby on Boxing Day any way so I knew it would be roughly between 16th and 21st ish Smile

Whisky2014 · 07/03/2019 19:42

see the difference between the maternal and foetal sides what the f....
Oh god i didn't think of It like that.
Whats it like delivering it?

Stroan · 07/03/2019 19:49

After DD was born, all the midwives on the labour ward were coming in to look at the big baby and huge placenta. They kept asking if I wanted to see it. That would be a no!

Whisky
I had a managed third stage with the first baby, so had the injection in the thigh which makes it come out pretty quickly. Doesn’t hurt or anything, just feels a bit strange and slimy - kind of like a wet tea towel being slid out of your fanjo Blush The injection hurt, but the actual placenta coming out didn’t hurt at all.
Second baby I had a physiological third stage, so just let it come on it’s own. If you choose this, you’ll be encouraged to breastfeed your baby as soon as possible after birth, as feeding releases hormones which stimulate contractions to expel the placenta. Not full on labour contractions, more like gnarly period pains. It took about an hour for mine to come which is quite a long time, but I got another urge to push, and out it came Smile Again, not painful at all, just a very strange, warm, wet sensation.

IVEgottheDECAF · 07/03/2019 20:09

Urgh i have never been offered the placenta to look at. I had managed third stages too. Been told that this time i have to go on a drip once baby is born for four hours, think they said oxytocin? Anyone had this? Think its because i am high risk of PPH

Whisky2014 · 07/03/2019 20:18

Wow I didn't know about this stuff! Thanks eggy :)

BBell2 · 07/03/2019 20:24

@mybreadiseggy I had a look at mine too, I'm usually a bit squeamish but after birth I didn't give a damm! I donated mine to the midwifes training session in the afternoon, a friend is a sister and she came in to see us just as it was being taken and said she could use it which I was happy about. An injection here too, I had a breath of gas&air to pass it but it was so quick after birth.

MyBreadIsEggy · 07/03/2019 20:28

BBell2 I kept mine from the second baby. My DH is Thai, and his mother said that in Thailand everyone uses their placenta to help grow fruit trees from - it’s an excellent fertiliser apparently!
We kept it, froze it, then plopped it in a pot with soil and a little baby pear tree. Apparently as it defrosts in the pot, the liquid helps penetrate the soil faster. That was 2.5 years ago, and we’ve not had any pears on it yet, but we do have a cute little tree in a beautiful blue pot Grin

Fortheloveofscience · 07/03/2019 23:23

I’ve caved and taken a piriton Sad whole torso is covered in huge red welts and the itching means I can’t sleep. Bizarrely I think I might be allergic to pregnacare?! I switched back to the seven seas vits for a couple of days as DH suggested it and felt a bit less itchy, took pregnacare last night and today my skin’s gone crazy!

Stroan · 08/03/2019 08:07

@fortheloveofscience don't worry about the piriton. Remember that the only reason most medication isn't recommended in pregnancy is purely because it hasn't specifically been tested on pregnant women. It's almost certainly fine. I hope you feel better.
