Hi,

It looks like we filled up the last thread before anyone had a chance to start a new one, so here we go! Hope everyone finds their way over.

@twittlebee could you possibly link to the Google Doc again?

@karigan195 so glad you were seen again and got a bonus scan. Lovely to get a bit of reassurance too, hope the next 7 days go quickly for you.

I am definitely going to get a sling of sorts for this baby which i have never had before then i have the option of putting ds(2) in the pram. Then a buggy board as well. Hopefully it will be ok. Its just the school runs stressing me tbh. Had a few recently where i have thought "wtf am i doing bringing a baby into this chaos!"

TwittleBee · 02/03/2019 18:43

Oh yes totally forgot about the sling! Was a total life saver with DS (who actually also didn't like the pram as a newborn...). So rave about slings, it's how I got most of the chores done when DS wasn't wanting to be put down

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/03/2019 18:47

I have never tried one as i have a bad back and wasnt sure how i would find it. But i am gonna give it a go even if only til baby is a few months old it gives me more options for dc4

TwittleBee · 02/03/2019 19:02

See if there is a sling library around you, might be able to find one on Facebook, so you can give them a go and try out different styles before you buy. You might find that it's easier to have all round better support when holding your baby in a sling rather than without for your bad back?

MyBreadIsEggy · 02/03/2019 19:20

I’m a massive baby wearing advocate Grin Slings are the only thing that saved my sanity! I have 17 months between the DCs I already have, and tandem wearing is the only way I got anything done!
I always recommend a good sling as being the top of the baby “must haves” list!

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/03/2019 19:24

Recommendation for a bad back / spd eggy?

Local sling library shut in 2017. Think the next nearest is a bit far

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/03/2019 19:25

I had 16m between dc1 and 2 but had a GIANT double pram

KLane · 02/03/2019 20:00

@IVEgottheDECAF I have a few friends with bad backs who have had luck with the Ergobaby 360. If there is a baby show near you anytime in the next 6 months, there are usually a good handful to try.

KnobJockey · 02/03/2019 20:20

m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0725881004.html HSunshine I've just bought this in two patterns, it's nowhere near as low as it looks on this picture and I reckon I could get good wear out of it for a few months now and then afterwards as well.

DustyDoorframes · 02/03/2019 20:52

@IVEgottheDECAF with a dodgy back it may be worth the extra travel to get to a sling library, or at least find one which does postal loans. I've a bad lower back, and loved the connecta (I find the ergo puts pressure in the wrong spot for me). I tried about 6 before finding the right one though! your best bet to start with will probably be a stretchy sling- just a really long bit of t-shirt fabric. SO easy for a newborn, and not hard at all to wrap and tie after the first couple of days. And because you tie it each time you put it on, you get a perfect custom fit for your body. Once it's on you can pop the baby in and out as often as you like. But some people do find them daunting.

excitednerves · 02/03/2019 23:23

My husband is from Brazil and over the past week or so (post 12 wk scan) we’ve been telling everyone our news - or they’ve been finding out through the grapevine. His family are really put out that we’ve “kept this a secret” for so long. And now also endless phone calls because we don’t want to find out the sex. How will people know what to buy? Baby won’t have a name when it’s born etc.

The culture is so different over there and I’m feeling sorry for Mr Excited that everyone’s giving him such a hard time about it. Sad

SJGR · 03/03/2019 00:53

@excitednerves what a nightmare - it's supposed to be a happy time and they make it all about them... divas... try not to dwell on it but maybe get the lowdown from someone (hubby/down to earth sister) on the differences in culture and for things that are coming up - at least then you're in control of whether you wanna do anything about it or not. It's harsh, but the sooner they realise this is about you and your hubby and your wonderful little bubba and not about them, the better... also this is your chance to make your own traditions that might be a mix of cultures - you can pick and choose... other people suck - sending you a big hug x

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/03/2019 07:16

excited this is just one of many times to come when you have to ignore other peoples opinions! I am an expert now!

dusty i do find the stretchy ones look a bit daunting, i had been looking at more structured carriers online such as Baby Bjorn and Ergo Baby! Any recommendations on postal sling librarys?

I really struggled to get to sleep last night, think i have developed restless legs!

Lavellan · 03/03/2019 07:43

I believe we get a stretchy wrap in our baby box. I hope they continue with the scheme.

BBell2 · 03/03/2019 08:21

@ivegotthedecaf DD will just be three. She does walk a lot for a little tot, I'm hoping a sling while she is still wanting her pushchair and maybe a buggy board. She has a silver cross pushchair and it has a new born accessory kit...half tempted to sell our old pram but for the convenience of clip in car seats early days!

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/03/2019 08:22

Oh i will have to have a new pram!

Pram issues here. Blush

Easterbuns1 · 03/03/2019 08:53

I wore dd and started off with a stretchy wrap before moving on to a. Woven girasol. Then I ordered a babyhawk as it was easier to get her onto my back on my own in that. I'm glad we get a stretchy wrap in the baby box I will probably make good use of that.

I also have my pram Blush it came up a bargain second hand when I was expecting last year and it was too good to pass by. Just went in the loft when I had my mc.

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/03/2019 08:59

What pram do you have easter? I have a short list in mind.

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/03/2019 08:59

And baby box is just in scotland yes?

Easterbuns1 · 03/03/2019 09:29

Yep baby box scheme is just in Scotland, such a good idea.

I've got a bugaboo cameleon, I just need to order a new hood and apron because I fancy a different colour. It's immaculate though was a great find!

Stroan · 03/03/2019 10:36

DD will be nearly 4 so I don't think will need a buggy but will definitely use a sling a lot again.

With DD, I used a close caboo in the early days (like a pre-tied stretchy sling. I was too scared to tie my own!). It saved my sanity and meant I could actually get myself food and drinks!

Then moved onto a Connecta and then a Tula. DH loved a baby Bjorn because he preferred the extra structure, but I found it too bulky and uncomfortable.

I didn't know we got a stretchy wrap in the baby box, will be good to try tying one. I can't wait to carry a baby in a sling again 💜

My DS will be 2y9 so I'm not going to bother with a double buggy. It's already hard enough getting him in the buggy now as he just wants to explore everywhere. I've got a silver cross wayfarer still that I used with him and it's in perfect condition so will just use that and get a buggy board. I've also got a baby Bjorn carrier bug will get a stretchy wrap on for when baby is smaller.

hodgeheg92 · 03/03/2019 13:05

Hi ladies, I've dropped off the radar for a while. Had my scan which changed my dates slightly and the sickness is really abating now (11+6).

@Hsunshine I've found fatface are good for baggy dresses, I'm wearing one now that fit me through pregnancy with DD and was good postnatally (although only at home cos it doesn't have feeding access so I had to lift the whole thing up)

I have an icandy pram that could convert to a double but it is so heavy, and you have to buy a new, smaller carrycot to convert it with a newborn and then an additional seat when they're bigger. So I'm toying with the idea of not doing the carrycot and going straight to the seat, but using a sling for the first few months. Have an ergo360 for DD that I can still carry her comfortably in now (she is about 11kg) but would like a stretch or ring sling for in the house for baby #2. Any recommendations?

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/03/2019 14:47

Is anyone else still really drained at 12 weeks +?

I don't know if maybe i am anemic or something or if i just have too much going on in my life!

kyles101 · 03/03/2019 15:29

@IVEgottheDECAF I'm still feeling drained, I'm 13+1, but to be honest that's been my only real bad symptom throughout, everything else has been fairly mild and I woke up one morning last week and suddenly felt completely back to "normal" so I'm hoping the energy levels soon return too!
