Neuro · 04/07/2007 13:41

Just got back from purchasing the doughnuts, boss has just taken his dog out (we have an office dog), so i've put the envelope on his desk EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

Ohmygod how nerve wracking. He'll prob think it's a resignation letter at first.

OK, deep breaths. This is ridiculous. Why am i so nervous?

MotherofZ · 04/07/2007 13:45

Office dog?? sounds really relaxed where you work!
Good luck with it all!

Nbg · 04/07/2007 13:50

Afternoon everyone.
Hope you are all well and blooming nicely

I really cannot keep up with this thread at all. You chat far too much

I'm getting proper kicks now which is nice and a bit suprising to say that my placenta was at the front at 12 weeks. But I'm guessing it must have moved now.

Suey2, can I pick your brains?
Am suffering with spd and I can't walk very far until I'm in pain.
The physio dept have offered me a pair of crutches to help but I feel like I need something that will put a bit of pressure on my pubic bone, as that seems to be the only way to relieve the pain. Is there such a product that I could get or will crutches do it?
My other problem is that I have dd who is nearly 4 and ds in his pushchair so if I go out, I cant use them.

Neuro · 04/07/2007 13:51

Yes, it is. I'm lucky. Our office dog is very sweet. He likes putting his head in our bins and fishing out bits of paper though.
It's good when i get stressed to just go and give the dog a pat. Every office should have one.

Neuro · 04/07/2007 13:57

Poor you Nbg. Hope it gets sorted. I dont' even know what an SPD is.

Whilst people are handing out advice...has anyone ever used those love eggs things or any sort of contraction that makes you work your ladybits muscles in order to keep 'downstairs' errrr nice and not baggy? I ask this as would like to find a nice bf or partner after i've had this baby and don't want a baggy downstairs.

(I am doing pelvic floors when i remember)

MotherofZ · 04/07/2007 13:58

lol - the stress relieving dog...

macdoodle · 04/07/2007 14:18

SPD = symphyisis pubis dysfunction
can be excruciating and really affect mobility nbg
try a maternity support belt - your obs physio should be able to get you one but you can buy them in boots/mothercare/bloomng marv etc
they do help if you keep em quite tight
sure suey will have some suggestions as well
good luck hun

Boss opened envelope, then hugged me and then we both grinned. He said i dont' know what to say except congratulations. He did ask if it was planned, so i said it was a happy accident. WHY i said that i have no idea. I did say i didn't want to miss the boat. I did tell him also i would be doing it on my own (so he doesn't make me redundant when times get bad).
He then v quietly (it is open plan office) explained that the reason his homelife (and partner) is rocky at the mo is because his partner did miss the baby boat. They decided about 10 years ago, poss a little longer, that due to their business being in dire straits they would put it off, and they kept putting it off until it was too late. I did already suspect this, but i wonder if she's now actually going through the menopause.
So i'm going to have to tread carefully in that i don't want another woman to feel unhappy because of my condition. I know how uncomfortably jealous i used to feel towards pregnant women in the street. I'd go home and want to stick forks in my own eyes so i wouldn't have to see pregnant people. Not nice.
And I have got myself preggers so that i don't miss the boat.
Really sad thing is if they'd just got on with it and stuck out the no money thing, they'd have a couple of teenagers now. And the money/biz side is fine.
So i'm happy for me, but sad for them. I won't be back in office til MOnday now, so everyone can get used to it in my absence.

PHEW! Might actually get on with some work now and stop posting 20 times an hour.

MotherofZ · 04/07/2007 14:47

Neuro - pleased that it went well for you!!
Sad about your boss though....

Yes this mumsnet is very addictive - major distraction from work.....

spina · 04/07/2007 14:53
Neuro · 04/07/2007 15:06

Spina don't say that! i want to be down the beach all trim after 6 months.

Please tell me what a six month old can do. Can he/she sit up? And toast? that's cool.

Nbg · 04/07/2007 15:14

Macdoodle, I could kick myself because I had one of those belts when I had dd and gave it to the MW after incase she could pass it on to other pg ladies suffering.
Think I'll have to get another one.

As lazy as it sounds, the only way the pain goes away is to sit or lay down in a certain position.

Neuro, not sure on the eggs. Check out Ann Summers, sure I saw something in there like that.

Although thinkng about it, don't think it was for pelvic floor purposes

mimicakey · 04/07/2007 15:22

Hi Everyone! I've only not been on here for a few days and you've run riot!

Sounds like everyone is ticking along nicely I think I can feel little cakey moving too! Just every now and then at the moment but I'm pretty sure it's him/her. VERY excited about the scan only being two weeks away. Has anyone heard any tips for making sure the baby is awake? I'll be gutted if i get there and it's facing the wrong way to tell the sex!

Awen got my bump band from Jojoblah - it's a hefty piece of kit! You could wear it full term and it would still cover the whole thing I think. But I had it folded over my jeans last night and buttoned on to them at the front and was happy walking about in public without worrying about my trousers falling down (just had a little bit of the zip done up). I reckon it would hold up loose trousers so long as you're not dancing vigorously!

spina · 04/07/2007 15:24

Six month old can eat toast. giggle when tickled. sit up and lose his balance and end up startled on floor. sing.chew everything in sight.recognise his name at baby music and think it's hilarious that a group of grown woman are singing"Hello Spinababe. How are youuuuu todaaaaaaay?" Which it is really

Lack of tummy tone due to lack of toning after baby number one in 2003 and chronic addiction to Gu choc brownies.

Housemum · 04/07/2007 15:26

Am having awful visions here of a woman in supermarket, sneezing, and a pair of love eggs shooting down the aisles...... click, click, rollllll

Perhaps they come with a warning - "only wear with tights or large gussets"

On a serious note, typed "pelvic" into Boots.com and it looks like they have the kind of toning things you mentioned - don't know anyone who has used them, or maybe people just don't tell you in RL!

Boots

Lizzer · 04/07/2007 15:43

Hello all, been neglecting to look at ante natal thread (sounds awful but been in a bit of a grump about the whole feeling fat not pg thing, stuff to buy, generally growing tired of how long its taking) but low and behold, I find everyone on here feeling similar so I won't stay away for so long next time!

Haven't bought anything yet but want to.... Its my birthday on Sunday and I know that work are getting me a voucher for some shop that sells maternity and baby stuff....sort of feel a bit cheated though.....

Nice to see everyone doing ok

(Keep on squeezing Neuro!)

suey2 · 04/07/2007 15:44

Hi Nbg,
Link to supports www.physiosupplies.com/acatalog/Maternity_Belts_and_Maternity_Supports.html
But if you are not too big yet, i really like the serola belts as i find the support really good: www.physiosupplies.com/cgi-bin/sh000001.cgi?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ephysiosupplies%2ecom%2 facatalog%2fMaternityBeltsandMaternitySupports%2ehtml&WD=serola&PN=SerolaSacroiliacBackSuppor tBeltfromPhysioSuppliesUK%2ehtml%23a111#a111. If these don't work, you will ahve to try the crutches. I hope you are getting some good physio from a woman's health physio too?

suey2 · 04/07/2007 15:45

oo sorry the linking doesn't seem to work. Go to physiosupplies.com and either type in maternity or serola and the products will come up.

suey2 · 04/07/2007 15:54

hey neuro,
they do a series of weighted cones- a bit like a tampon you walk around with- and they have 5 different increasing weights to strengthen the pelvic floor.
However, don't think about putting smething up there until you have checked it out with your midwife- i would not want to take any risks re infection: personally i would leave it until after.
aquaflex cones on www.mobilisphysiotherapy.com under continence care.
PS big congrats on telling your boss!

Neuro · 04/07/2007 16:35

Thanks Suey2. Am seeing MW on Fri so will ask her.
Well i didn't think i'd be looking up continence care items this early on in my life.
So far i've found items called: Women's Waterworks (nice), Use it or Lose it and Bowel Control.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

tabimum · 04/07/2007 16:44

Mrs Wizz - totally agree with ignoring mothers/MIL's comments at times - they either are rose-tinted, or they have bad memories! My MIL told me that the reason my DD1 was crying a lot at 6 weeks old was because I should have been feeding her solids! It had nothing to do (according to her) with the fact she had colic! When I suggested that the Health Visitor recommended 6 months for weaning, she told me that was rubbish and she had weaned both her sons onto solids before they were 2 months! I think she just has a very bad memory (as well as being far too interfering!). So my advice is to ignore them!

Neuro · 04/07/2007 17:42

For those that might be curious about pelvic cone thingies, i checked and Suey is right, not to use whilst preggers.

(Q) Can I do the pelvic floor exercises shown at my ante- and post- natal classes whilst using Aquaflex?
(A) You should not use Aquaflex whilst pregnant. However, after having your baby, you should continue with your pelvic floor muscle exercises until you feel comfortable enough to start using Aquaflex (6-8 weeks after giving birth). As with all exercise, you must take care not to over exercise the muscles. Using the cone will replace regular sessions of pelvic floor muscle exercises.

Housemum · 04/07/2007 17:43

Just remember, when our mums were having babies, advice was along the lines of:

  • have a pint of Guinness a day when pg for the iron content
  • put some baby rice in the bottle with the milk
  • put baby to sleep on its front
  • feed solids ASAP
  • crying is good for the baby's lungs
  • only feed every 4 hours - put them outside in the pram between feeds
  • there are some recipes with raw eggs for babies in my mum's old cokbook

And we survived all this??!! But they definitely have rose-tinted glasses when it comes to growing bigger (I was never big with you, dear...) or pain (just a little gas and air, you soon get over it...) or crying (you never cried like this, are you sure she's had enough milk? You can't tell like you can with bottles...)

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2007 21:48

LOL housemum at the vision of woamn sneexing. I sneexed today in Johgn Lewis and thought it wont be long before stress incontinence starts kicking in !!!

beller · 05/07/2007 08:41
