I’ve got a birth matters appointment booked for April to discuss an ELCS @silversister going to go in armed with a list! I’m hoping to get my renal consultant onside too as kidneys showed some worrying signs during last labour but technically I have ‘no medical need’ for a CS.
I has an assisted birth and a horrible recovery last time so hoping to avoid this time. I know as CS recovery will be hard but at least I’ll be expecting it!

Re ELCS: I had one last time. No technically medical need. Always been petrified of childbirth and probably know way too much about complications. On top of that I had horrendous antenatal depression, then diagnosed with gestational diabetes very late on (35 weeks), so I knew I'd need to be induced early which brings a higher risk of assisted birth (which really added to my fear). Basically I went to my consultant appointment with a list of things I was terrified about for a vaginal birth (huge list), and a list of things I was terrified about for a CS (tiny list). They talked through it all with me, realised I knew my stuff, and it was agreed that for me it would be better to face those risks in the controlled environment of a theatre with surgeons present. They booked my ELCS there and then. It ended up being brought forward a few days because I had PUPPS and was tearing my skin to shreds itching. If was scary and the recovery must hag

Torsz · 26/01/2019 05:09

@lstef hi back from Bristol 👋☺️

socktastic · 26/01/2019 06:33

@heyha with my wee boy one of the midwives actually used the term geriatric pregnancy! I was 32 at the time!

coastergirl · 26/01/2019 07:26

No idea what end of my post was supposed to say! 🙈

Siannybobs · 26/01/2019 07:39

Hi everyone! I honestly can't keep up so I'm just dipping in and out x

19w1d over here. Not feeling all that pregnant, no bump, no movements, no sickness (thankfully passed at 16w), feel a bit like a fraud. Definitely pregnant though Grin
Feel like I need to get a bit healthier after 1st trimester "eat whatever stays down" mainly biscuits.

Great stats, here's mine:
Due 22nd June, surprise (might change at 20w scan 5th Feb), 34 when due, North Wales, first baby. Forgotten if there was anything else Grin

I'm starting pregnancy yoga on 18th Feb, I'm really looking forward to it, anyone else?

Reastie · 26/01/2019 08:02

Bimbabo is a day before due date usual for elective csection? I was assuming mine woukd be more like a week before but I have no clue.

Napssavelives · 26/01/2019 09:32

My sickness seems to be back. Feeling very nauseated today

Bimbabo · 26/01/2019 10:11

@SilverSister I am a nurse and my husband a anaesthetist in the hospital where we will have our baby. My reason for a section are that I feel it’s safer don’t like the idea of labouring for ages and being knackered when it comes time to push. I also can organise my in-laws coming over. They are in Asia so means that if they come for 2 weeks they’ll have a baby rather than being late and they only get 2 days.
This was the reasons I gave to the consultant and he said that ultimately it was a woman’s decision how and where they gave birth and he would do it. I do think that as he knows us and we have more insight medically this is why I’ve not had to push for it harder.

@Restie I think cause it’s a first time elective, they probably hope that I’ll go into labour early and that’s why it’s basically my due date 🤣

Reastie · 26/01/2019 10:52

Bimbabo I relate with the replies only coming for 2 weeks and wanting max baby time, with dd dh used up half of his 2 weeks paternity leave whilst I was in hospital having a (failed) induction so only got a week home with dd.

HoneyPea · 26/01/2019 11:21

Age at due date; 33
Sex; surprise
Location; North Midlands

Bimbabo · 26/01/2019 11:21

@Reastie I believe that things like that should be considered with delivery also. Are you going for an elective too? I’ve had friends who’ve had natural and then sections and all day they prefer the section xxx

HoneyPea · 26/01/2019 11:25

@Napssavelives sickness hasn't gone away yet (19 + 4) luckily only physically been sick 3 days this week so definitely getting better 🙌 (Real fruit ice lollies are amazing as they stop you from getting too dehydrated!)

Bizawit · 26/01/2019 11:30

@toomanyflatwhites I’m also SW 😊.

I don’t think anybody has asked me about my birthing preferences yet? Should I have discussed this with midwife already? Clueless FTM..

Torsz · 26/01/2019 11:33

@Bizawit I haven't been asked either! Assuming it'll be at my next midwife spot (24/25wks)?!

Torsz · 26/01/2019 11:33

Appt, not spot!!

toomanyflatwhites · 26/01/2019 12:01

@Bizawit if you are under St Thomas hospital like me (or maybe not!) then you're not allowed an elective c section as far as they are concerned. No idea what happens if you really want that as I wasn't in that position, but there is a page in my orange book that's a letter from the hospital explaining why they don't do it (I'm sure there are cases where they do though). In terms of being asked about preferences I have found my midwife appointments nothing more than admin so far and haven't even been asked how I'm doing let alone what I want!!

Bimbabo · 26/01/2019 12:41

I brought up the section at my first appointment with the cons at my 12 week scan.
@toomanyflatwhites I’ve found all the appointments with the midwife the same. Appointments more a tick box of questions that I could fill out on a form and hand it in.

Reastie · 26/01/2019 12:46

Bimbabo yes the plan currently is for a elective. Mw said no one would make me labour with an existing csection scar. Awaiting consultant apt to discuss it and would love it booked in already but not sure how it works with hospital. I’m nervous about various aspects of it but it’s the lesser of two evils between that and labour.

Bimbabo · 26/01/2019 13:06

@Restie our consultant did the 20 week scan yesterday and our next appointment with him in April he’s on leave. I think he booked it yesterday so we got a day when he was there and not off as he wouldn’t be around in April to book it then. I wasn’t expecting to have a date at this point.
This is my first baby so don’t know how it works normally where we are but I feel we are getting extra support and listened too more than might be normal xxx
