Have I started a new thread?

I agree with the flatness thing too but figure that for the amount I use it it will be fine (15 degrees is almost flat anyway). Looked at the one you had and it says suitable from 3 months whereas the one I am going for is suitable from newborn. Will order it I think and then can always return if I don't like it!

alicet · 11/07/2007 13:22

By the way muppet there's a fab ranty thread about dogs being off leads in parks and frightening children - thought it would be your cup of tea!!! Think you have dogs too don't you or am I getting confused now?

muppetgirl · 11/07/2007 13:26

I know, it's really the 'keep-them-in-the-car-seats-as-long-as-possible' brigade who need to think about flatness. We bought our quinny, then found that the carseat wouldn't fit in our car -too short seatbelts- so we couldn't put the carseat on the pushchair frame. Was fine about that.

I'm lucky that ds is 3.4 so we don;t need to think about double buggies, though may get one of those buggyboard things if ds regresses and is jealous of ds2 being pushed everywhere.

oooo, thanks alice, will take a peek. Have a particulary ferocious black lab who runs at the first sight of anyone, (he's a resuce) maybe they should keep their children on a lead.....

alicet - we have this maclaren well the 2005 version anyway, this is the only pushchair we bought and we still use it now. It must have done a couple of hundred miles as I used it a lot for walks round home. I know it isn't rear facing but ours has a clear plastic window in the hood so you can keep an eye on him very easily. Its looking a bit battered now but I am going to use it again this time and get a buggy board for it.

WinnieThePooh · 11/07/2007 16:03

WE bought this when DD was born 5 years ago. Mine is dark blue. We also got the Autobas, so we just need to buckle that in and the car seat was easy to get in and out. The only ting I need to get for it is a new rain cover.

nellieloula · 11/07/2007 16:15

Hi everyone - interesting about the buggies - it is such a big investment isn't it. I'm hoping that we'll manage with a buggyboard for DS (he'll be 2.5) - we have a bugaboo (old style frog) and I have to say it is great; I haven't found the cot low at all (I'm small though) and loved that there were so many options - the cot was a lifesaver for day time naps - and that he could face me for as long as I wanted him to...steering is amazing and it is so light - BUT it is very wide and tricksy to fold in a hurry (as I found to my delight trying to get on a bus in the rain the other day) and often big for some car boots. But on reflection I'm really glad we got it cause it has served us really well - a lot of our friends are on their 2nd or 3rd buggy now, so for that, the investment has been good as it will def last this next one too. End of bugaboo advert!

I love the serenity of M&P's too but found a lot of their stuff quite big and bulky for our flat....but lovely quality. didn't realise they had a cafe..is that at the one on ARgyle St off Oxford St??

and as for maternity bras, I use bravissimo as mine are HUGE and their choice is loads better than your average, mostly all 95% cotton and really good online service. They usually start at a c cup I think. Also, for those who can buy bras anywhere, I think Elle McPherson did a maternity range for Debenhams....

struggling for inspiration for DS's tea....any ideas greatly welcome!

Afternoon all

Interesting chat about prams, we've got the P&T's e3 and have just bought the carrycot and second seat adaptor for that. I know some people don't like them but it works really well for us, baby can lie flat and DS can still sit up front. I find it really easy to fold and although its quite big it can stand up in the car boot so hardly takes up any space. Should last them both now til they're out of pushchairs altogether.

My SIL has one and we put DS in the back of hers when we visit and he loves it.
Although it looks a bit strange the kids don't seem to mind at all.

This time I've only had to get a new changing table for the bathroom (after 3 years of loyal service the old one has split and will now go in our bedroom for while bub is tiny).

I'm going to buy a sheepskin (SIL who's expecting her third has our old one)and maybe a few more cute clothes and that'll be that I think. OO and a new cot bumper as DS tore the last one and a wrap sling or two.

Hmph, there must be something else I just can't do without...

muppetgirl · 11/07/2007 16:57

Only posted on the dog thread once I knew it would all kick off and it has.

P&T's seem great, a friend has one and she loves it.

Ds has announced that he 'wants a picnic' so we're going to pack a little tea and head off down the field (this makes us sound so rural but we are in the middle of a 5,500 new housing estate in Swindon!!!!)
and take the dogs with us.
We're going to have the bread rolls we maed yesterday -ds was sooo cute kneading the bread -as is a lovely afternoon and for once not raining!

See you all later

Thanks for all the pram links. Saw a fab one by Valcro in the park this pm - unfortunately they're only available in Oz or NZ (went asnd asked the dad who had it!). It has a toddler seat that fits on the front above the baby. Looks great.

I like the Phil and Teds too Pheebe except ds looks really uncomfortable in it!Big tantrums every time I've tried and he's pretty placid normally. MY mate has just got one so might try it again....

j20baby · 11/07/2007 18:09

Hi gain all, do you realise how much we all chat?! we're going to need a new thread soon!!

i got really upset earlier, dd has an old phone that one of her dads friends gave her, she doesn't have any credit and nobody rings her, but this afternoon she kept getting phone calls from some perv talking dirty, luckily i took it off her and she didn't hear anything but he kept ringing bsck, i'm going to take the sim card out, but i really bothered me

well, thats it, nothing else to report, hope your all ok

muppetgirl · 11/07/2007 18:09

Hi alice, just seen your P&C parking thread.

I have to say I do find it annoying that they older mnetters love to patronise newer mnetters. (But then your not new!) in that they say, 'It's been done before, yawn, yawn, yawn.' and the proceed to be rude or getting on for being rude to the op. Why do they bother posting if they don't like it?

It seems, through this that the subjects we choose to talk about are vetted by these 'ladies'
I've started a thread about boasting about your children as we have just got ds's 1st report from nursery which is really good (I don't mean in an academic way, more that he's happy, fun, polite sociable etc)
and I'm sure someones going to to turn that into a personal attack on a boring thread posted by an obviously 'new' mnetter......

i posted for you alice

forgot to tell you guys, my cat brought a bird in the house earlier, very chuffed eith herself, i chased her out and made her drop it and it flew off, the cat was v. pi**ed off with me

Katsh · 11/07/2007 19:35

Alicet - on the Mamas and Papas quality question .... I had a M &P pram, car seat combo for dd1 . It was great for both dd1 and dd2 and has been used by 2 other families for 2 kids each. We thought it had now had it, but dh has fixed slightly wonky fitting. I think that 6 kids out of 1 travel system must indicate quality is pretty durable! Folds well, not too heavy. Looks much less exciting than other prams but has definitely served us well.

alicet · 11/07/2007 19:51

Katsch glad to hear it as my bil and sil have just bought a M&P pram - glad its just my mate that has had a problem.

Mujppet couldn't agree more about people being rude and patronising about repetitive topics. I was gobsmacked! Didn't think it was particularly controversial either, just wanted to vent!!!! If I see a topic I am not interested in I don't read it - maybe I should go back and apologise for having a life so I don't know all the previous topics!!!! Can't believe it has over 40 posts and most are people salgging me off for posting about this!

J20 - thats horrible about your dd and her phone. I'd be really really freaked out. Think you're doing the right thing by removing the sim card. Thanks too for posting on my parking thread and not to have a go!!!!

alicet · 11/07/2007 19:51

muppet not mujppet!!!! Sorry

Pheebe · 12/07/2007 07:58

Morning all

Alice just couldn't resist posting on your aibu thread hehehe. Lets see the reaction to that

Unfortunately now I don't have any time left to post here

Have a good day everyone, busy one here so will try and catch up tonight...

Hey, maybe should we start an AIBU thread about 'AIBU to expect to be able to post on mn on any topic I like without getting personal insults and trolled'... I reckon that could break all records [evil, hand-wringing grin emoticon]

dal21 · 12/07/2007 08:38

AliceT - forget about the miserable posters on your AIBU thread. If I have nothing positive / an opinion that merits genuine discussion - I dont bother posting. I genuinely think on occasion that some of them are kids coming on for a laugh.
Pheebe - LOL at your addition. Flinging in the 4 by 4 grenade.
am working from home, so will be able to watch what happens.

ejt1764 · 12/07/2007 09:20

Morning all ? copy / paste maestro here!

Well, dh finally brought the pram home ? and it?s much nicer than I remembered ? it?s one of these ? I don?t like it as a pushchair, but it was great as a pram ? ds couldn?t stand lying flat, as he suffered with reflux and allergic rhinitis, so had to be raised a bit almost from the start ? the nice thing is that the pram bit clips off, and the car seat clips straight on to the chassis ? so any car shopping trips were easier with the car seat on the chassis rather than lugging the whole thing around!

I know for a fact that we won?t use it as a pushchair ? when Madame Bean is old enough, we?ll dig the mamas & papas buggy out of the attic ? it too is lie flat, so we can use that we out on long car trips ?

I?ve also bought a cot-top changer thingie, as we?ve moved since ds was born, and in our old house, our bathroom was enormous, so we had a separate changing table (actually the cut-out from the sink when we redid the kitchen!) in the bathroom ? there is no way in the world we could get that in the bathroom of where we live now! I?m also going to buy one of those bath top baths ? eventually. I?ve bought a calin bleu sling ? there?s every possibility that I?ll be on crutches still after the lo is born, and I want to be able to carry her around!

Have only bought 1 pack of newborn vests as far as clothes are concerned ? our neighbours have 2 girls, so have dragged down all their newborn stuff from the loft, and donated it!

Am frantically making blankets and cardis though ? as are my mum and aunt!

Muppetgirl - I have to say that we?ve had ds?s report from nursery too ? and were really pleased with it (so much so that we?re taking him to the cinema to see Shrek on Saturday!) ? but I didn?t want to say anything on any other thread in case I got accused of being a smug mummy ? I just proud of him fgs! So, I know what you mean!

alice - it?s always the same people who get sniffy about what others post ? I?d ignore them ? they obviously haven?t got anything better to do!

j20 - sends shivers down my spine about the phone ? yuk!

Hiya katsh dal ? and everybody else!

Have acupuncture at 12.15, then I?m going out (shock, horror ? haven?t been ?out? since before pg!) with some friends from work for an easrly tea ? one of my closest colleagues is leaving teaching, and we?re going out for an early tea together ? should be quite civilised!

Have teddies to make for ds?s teachers today ? so won?t be MNing much! Have fun winding up all the nay-sayers!

ejt1764 · 12/07/2007 10:10

Just a quick addendum by me .... honestly, I was going to get dressed .....

This thread here is a classic ... I can't remember who Xenia insulted earlier in the week / last week, but she's waded into something she knows nothing about again - read from weds 22:37

Honestly!

greedygreedyguzzler · 12/07/2007 10:56

hello all! .........i asked this on another thread, but.........................why do people think it is funny and original to ask "are you sure you haven't got 2 in there?" and then snigger to themselves!!!......................makes me feel like screaming......"OF COURSE I AM BLOODY SURE YOU DIVVY, I AM JUST A GREEDY GREEDY GUZZLER WHO IS USING THE EXCUSE OF BEING PREGNANT TO EAT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!"

feel better after that! thanks girls!

i really cant believe we have still got 3 months to go................roll on sept 30th (my EDD!)

designer baby - was it you that had the huge list of things to buy? and did you get them all in the end?

designerbaby · 12/07/2007 11:20

Morning all - yes, it was me with the huge list... got several of the 'big' purchses - cotbed, changer, matress, bouncy chair, moses masket w. stand etc. Got a few baby clothes - mostly just plain white

Didn't get any of the smaller stuff though - ended up cmpletely bamboozled by the variety of stuff on offer. Mum and I spent about an hour trying to figure out sterilisers/bottles/teats suitable for expresses breast milk - we liked the look of the tommee tippee but realised we weren't basing our decision on anything in particular so just left looking perplexed... Of course there's no-one around in any of the shops to be remotely helpful.

But at least now i've had a look I feel a bit more aware of what's out there, and so I'll probably do most of the ACTUAL shopping online... I think.

It's all so confusing for a first timer though...

DB

MrsFish · 12/07/2007 11:35

Hello all.

Now I haven't had any wierd dreams for a while until last night... reading in my book it says that during the last trimester you may start having baby dreams, well last nights was a doozy. I had to get up (2am) and write down so I wouldn't forget...

I dreamt that I went into labour during the night, the baby came so suddenly DH was there only just in time to literally catch it, then ds appeared (he is only 2) with a pair of scissors and he cut the cord, I was trying to warn DH what he was about to do but it was too late. Everything then went a bit panicky for a while, ie calling ambulance/hospital etc...

Someone then arrived to take charge and asked DH when baby was born, for some reason it stuck in my mind that it was on the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve (3 months late!!? not sure how I knew in my dream it was 3 months late but it manifested itself in some way) and I am told it is a girl. Now very confused am I, as I know we have had two scans saying it is a boy and I am actually quite disappointed now its a girl.

Nxt day there are loads of visitors, family/friends and for some strange reason Colleen from Home and Away she then says 'where is the other one, there were two babies born last night, the other was a boy.... OMG I thought, where is the boy, it was all so panicky during labour we missed him, where the hell is he... then I woke up all of a panicky sweat

Thinking about it in the cold light of day, its 3 months between being pregnant with this boy and the baby I lost, so the dream is confusing the two which is why the girl in my dream was born 3 months late, I think. Very confusing all the same and I hope I don't have many more of them.

Hope everyone has a good day

dal21 · 12/07/2007 11:37

DB - if it helps at all, this was what i settled on for the little things. I am hoping to BF and be able to express and MW said it was probably best to have a few bottles etc ready to go.

  • 2 ready made formula boxes aptamil (hope never to have to use them but good for emergencies)
  • 2 of the smallest (think 4fl. oz) NUK bottles
  • Avent microwave steriliser (much smaller and less expensive than the others)
  • Medela swing electric breast pump
  • Lansinoh nipple cream
  • Pack of avent breast shields
  • Lansinoh disposable breast pads.

Am sure many will say all of this isnt needed, but it was what i went for. Would rather have it then be sending DH out for supplies and then being annoyed when he comes back with the wrong thing

MrsFish · 12/07/2007 11:41

Dal - I agree with that list. The thing I never had was the nipple shields, I had to send DH out to find them for me whilst I was in tears of agony, I didn't know they existed at first
