scully · 03/08/2007 03:31

We didn't find out the sex with dd1 or dd2, slightly curious with this one but don't think we'll find out this time either. Am just waiting for the 'trying for a boy' comments though, when we start telling everyone.....
I'm still wearing normal clothes athough they are stretchy, so hopefully can keep that up for another 2wks. I always enjoyed being bigger with my other 2 and was never that uncomfortable, even at the end so I'm looking forward to leaving this 'chubby with no waist' stage

mutha2beagain · 03/08/2007 07:19

Scully - I know what you mean about the chubby with no waist stage - you're in that no man's land of just looking a bit overfed without the nice pregnant silhouette.

I'm still in my jeans but noticed that they were sliding down a bit with pot belly hanging over the top - not a good look.

I'm really looking forward to a bit of maternity retail fun this time as there seems to have been an explosion in the availability of clothes - last time I just lived in black lycra everything so it will be nice to have a bit more variety!

Good to hear so far so good with scan MG and that you will be supplementing this with the oh so thorough going over you get at the FMC!

And welcome to newbies and congrats to all those expecting twins!

Egg · 03/08/2007 07:52

Morning ladies. Hope everyone is well today. I am off on hols tomorrow for a week to Devon (again) but this time with my sis and her kids and without our DHs. Very excited but lots of packing to do today. Plus on our return it is only ONE WEEK until we move house so a bit nervous.

MG and Pobletsmum, glad the scans went so well! I love a bit of good news .

Kat did not realise your DS was so weeny still, I thought I had a smallish gap between my DS and the twins. At least you have experience of three children already so you might feel more relaxed than me!!!

I definitely definitely want to find out the sex of these little ones. We found out with DS as we both really really wanted a boy. I had a dream a couple of nights ago that it was one of each, but I am really not too fussed, always wanted three boys initially...

Egg · 03/08/2007 07:53

Oh and I feel sooooo much better in maternity clothes. I could still get into my jeans but had to do them up so low that, as mutha2b said, I had a pot belly hanging over the top. Most of my maternity stuff last time was work clothes so I will be needing LOTS more new stuff of course!

Lucylou21 · 03/08/2007 10:40

I've been in maternity clothes since about ten weeks
They're comfy and my stomach popped out almost instantly anyway. Luckily alot of tops at the moment are very pregnancy friendly, all I need now are some maternity jeans.

pobletsmum · 03/08/2007 13:42

Thanks egg. The scan was very reassuring. What a shame that you'll have to buy new maternity clothes . I'm in the same position, because I started 2stone heavier this time, so there are only a few bits that fit even now. No hope for 6 months pg, so shopping spree required! A couple of very kind friends have lent me some mat clothes, but they obviously don't realise how big I am, because the clothes are all about 2 sizes too small. Very kind though...

I agree about the wider range of clothes available. Since last time, in my nearest town, we have a new Blooming Marvellous, H&M now sell maternity, ASDA now doing maternity and that's just off the top of my head! Last time it was pretty much Mothercare or a bit at Dorothy Perkins or otherwise mail order.

I'm off to bed before DS wakes up and I miss my slot. I hope he keeps up this afternoon nap thing for a while. I don't know how I'd cope otherwise.

ExpectingKat · 03/08/2007 14:03

HI
Scully we had excatly the same thing when I was expectin DS, we didn't know the sex as our maturnity unit have a policy not to tell poeple, everyone said I bet u want a boy (havin got 2 girls)or if its another girl u'll want to put her back!! I found it very annoyin, after waitin 5 yrs and havin a MC we were just so chuffed to be havin a baby.

Yes egg i think thats wots worryin me, all 1 and under how will I feed 3 babies at once! and give DS a cuddle and things like that with a big bump. I tryin to block out how i shall cope with all 3 lol

lailasmum · 03/08/2007 14:38

Had my scan today. Everything looks ok, just nice to see the little one. And my dates were only a couple of days different from the scan ones.

Starting to feel better too.

Lucylou21 · 03/08/2007 15:02

Thats good news lailasmum, did they put your dates forward or back?
Thankgoodness for morning sickness, etc, starting to fade!

Egg · 03/08/2007 15:24

Great news lailasmum. It is lovely to hear of successful scans.

Am trying to sort out / work out whether to organise a maternity nurse / post natal doula for when the twins come. I really think I will need some form of help, and my lovely mum has offered to help out financially, but worried about what will be best and wishing I could wait until they are born and then decide.

Better wake DS. He has been in bed nearly 3 hours again . Pobletsmum I am in total agreement on that. No idea what i would do if he gave up his lunchtime nap!

lailasmum · 03/08/2007 17:18

Dates went back 2 days so not much. But my daughter was 10 days late and my dates with her were pushed back by like 3 weeks too so I am not that bothered by a couple of days either way this time round.

beansprout · 03/08/2007 17:18

Glad your scan went well lailasmum

Bessie123 · 03/08/2007 19:37

This is a v long thread. What did I miss?

Had 1 scan and nuchal screening privately at the Portland last week. They really do take every opportunity to squeeze a bit more cash out of you - I think giving birth will be less painful than having to worry about all the money the hospital keeps charging for things they say are included but aren't.

Anyway, the good news (for me) is that despite DP's teasing, it's just the one in there; 2 would be far too scary for the first, although the BOGOF aspect is quite appealing.

Does anyone know if there's any truth in the old wives' tale that if you're not sick in the first 12 weeks, it's a boy?

lailasmum · 03/08/2007 19:43

I have heard the opposite wives tale. That boys make you sick

gingermumi · 03/08/2007 19:52

Hi ladies

Haven't had internet for a few days so am trying to catch up! Congrats to poblet and lailasmum on your scans and welcome and wow more twins! to expectingkat.

Have been in maternity clothes for weeks, couldn't get in normal clothes if i tried. Ms comes and goes still (hoped it would have gone by now - i keep saying that!). Had it really bad last night, had to send dh to late-night co-op at 10.30pm for ginger beer - amazingly it works! Feel absolutely knackered today, went shoppping with dd2 for birthday pressie for my mum, couldn't find anything so we trudged round for ages. feel a tad under pressure as dh is in hospital for 4 or 5 days next week for a hip operation. He will be on crutches for 6 weeks and wont be able to drive for two months. I 'm just glad it's not any later or i'd have been driving myself to the labour ward! It's going to be a worry and a pain too! Moan over!

Hope all is well with everyone

gingermumi · 03/08/2007 19:54

Glad scan went well bessie

lljkk · 03/08/2007 20:08

All you Twins Mums 2 B: ask your health visitor sif you're entitled to any funded support (an extra adult to help with childcare for a few hours/week) from social services, I think you might be.

Bessie123: Are you doing your whole maternity experience private (scans, Midwife, birth and all)? Just being nosy...

In 1st trimester I was sick as a dog with both my boys AND I think this one is a boy too (thought I saw "bits" at the dating scan). I probably was sicker with my girl, but it isn't that much consolation to know that you're only throwing up 3x/day instead of 4-5x/day.

gingermumi · 03/08/2007 20:36

Have been more sick with this one than dd 1 and 2 - no idea what it means but am going to find out sex when we go for 20 week scan- at our helth authority they ask you to say if you DON'T want to know! It's a amazing how different they all are - you'd think all authorities would have same policy.

leesmum · 03/08/2007 21:12

Evening all.
I had no sickness at all with ds, not a scap! and no sore(.)(.)ies. but this time i've been nauseous nearly every day and been sick a couple of times, headaches sore (.)(.) the lot. But im still convinced its a boy.
we are going to find out at 20weeks, i think were just that used to ds we can't imagine a girl.

Glad to hear all recent scans have gone well and good luck for any next week.

scully · 04/08/2007 01:23

I was sick with both my girls, from 7wks to 13wks. This time I felt rough between 6 and 9wks, but also had the flu in that time so hard to tell. I also worked through the other 2 pregnancies, which somedays was easier than looking after my darling 19mth old
I would happily go into maternity clothes now but my bump will be so obvious when I do, that I'm just trying to hold on for another 2wks until my scan. I'm 37 next month and just feel a little more paranoid this time around so would rather most people didn't know just yet.
dd1 (who is 5) hasn't guessed yet, surprising as she doesn't miss anything. As soon as she knows then her whole school will know within 10min, no secrets with her
Ebay is another good place for maternity clothes, especially casual ones you don't need for work, and for baby things as well, as so much of it doesn't need to be new as it doesn't get used enough to wear out.
Have a nice weekend everyone

Slacker · 04/08/2007 04:56

Hello everyone

Can I have a little rant? I feel entitled to one since I'm up at 4.something a.m. unable to sleep

When I went to London last week for my scan my MIL had the kids for a few hours, as I have no one else to leave them with. She asked what my appointment was for and I refused to tell her (none of her business IMO given how little interest she shows in the children). When I picked the kids up from her I had shopping bags and DS3 asked excitedly whether I'd bought baby things. I shushed him and hoped she hadn't overheard. Next day DH phones to talk to his mum and his sister answers (I really can't stand her) and immediately starts demanding to know why we're having another baby, "don't you know what causes it yet?", giving her opinion on whether we can afford it etc. Then MIL doesn't even mention it to DH when she talks to him! So they are gossiping about my business, will be telling all and sundry and then don't even have the decency to admit to knowing, other than bigmouthed SIL. Grrr.

Anyway, I'm now 13+6, I have the tiniest bump when I'm lying flat but as soon as I stand up it disappears behind the flab. So not wearing my new maternity clothes yet! Got some from Crave Maternity sale which I'll supplement with some plain trousers/tops from M&S I expect. I've got a bag of old maternity wear somewhere but I'm not sure I can bear to see any of it again, I was so sick of it by the end of my last pregnancy!

Still trying to decide whether to have another scan or not. I haven't had an anomoly scan since baby no.1, but I do want to know whether it's a boy (as the sonographer guessed last week) or a girl (which is what I wanted). Have to buy all new baby stuff as got rid of it all. Won't do anything till the kids are back at school in September as I'm not dragging them all along to a scan. Still haven't phoned a midwife either, I don't actually need or want anything from them at this stage so it seems a bit pointless.

Right I think I might be able to get back to sleep now, so have a good weekend everyone and good luck for anyone with scans coming up.

alkar · 04/08/2007 06:38

Sorry Slacker, people can be so insensitive. Hope you managed to get back to sleep x

CountTo10 · 04/08/2007 08:12

Sorry you're in laws are being like that slacker. For some reason when it comes to this kind of thing, everyone feels like they're allowed a say!!

Congrats to all newcomers and those who have had scans etc. Can't believe we're heading to that magical supposedly glowing stage where we will hopefully start feeling movement. I still feel quite disconnected from it all, sure that will change once I get stuck into nursery decorating though!!!

Egg · 04/08/2007 08:44

Morning ladies, just a realt quickie to say goodbye for a week. Slacker your MIL sounds like a PITA, none of her business the old trout....

Bessie, glad scan went well .

I had much more nausea this time than last time. Last time was a BOY, so thought it might be a girl this time, but could be because there are two. Really hope we get one boy at least as have so many lovely clothes I would like to use again.

Anyway, see you in a week, hope you all have nice restful sick-free weeks, and anyone with scans, good luck!

rozzyraspberry · 04/08/2007 15:39

Hi everyone. Just been trying to catch up with everyones news. Congratulations to all those who have had scans and to those who have joined up. I can't believe we have 3 sets of twins on here - congratulations expectingkat.

On morning sickness, with my first 2 (who are boys) I wasn't actually sick that much but from about 6 - 14 weeks was retching pretty much every morning and at various points throughout the day. With this one, although I started to feel slightly nauseous before my AF was even due it never really developed into much and was much better than previous two times. So either I'm having a girl and you are less sick with girls or I'm having another boy and pregnancy is just completely different. TBH I don't see how whether you're carrying a boy or a girl can make any difference to your symptoms. The old wives tale is more sick with girls though. Not sure yet whether we'll find out the sex. Weren't going to but DS1 is convinced and desperate for baby to be a girl. I keep referring to it as he to try and get him used to the fact that it'll probably be a boy but he just won't accept that it could be. So at least if we find out we can prepare him for it so he's not disappointed when it's born.

I'm now suffering with really bad trapped wind, particulary in the evenings. It's really painful and unpleasant but I suppose it's only fair since I missed out on most of the sickness this time!

Have a great weekend everyone.
