My bump is definitely tender both inside and out. I don't think DS running at me with outstretched hands bumping into bump, or wanting to be carried etc helps!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 01/02/2019 16:04

@Harley8888 & @cardboard33 men just don't get it do they! Mine moaned because I used the en-suite rather than traipsing down the hall to the bathroom because apparently me "pissing like an elephant at 4 in the morning" disrupted his sleep. Awfully sorry your child using my ridiculously over-full bladder as a trampoline is an inconvenience to you... πŸ˜‚

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 01/02/2019 17:38

Just had a bit of a slap in the face regarding work.
I currently work for a company that owns several smaller companies; one of which I do the accounts and purchasing for. I've just been told by the owner that he's thinking of selling as the factory/ sales director has quit. I was supposed to be doing the accounts from home after my maternity leave to get a bit of extra money. It wasn't a lot but would cover our food and bills (excluding mortgage). Now I'm not sure what's going to happen and if I'll have a job! He's said that I can continue my work for another company but that it can't be done from home. So I have no idea if I'm going to have to either quit entirely after my mat leave or put the baby in full time nursery.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 01/02/2019 17:40

I very much doubt we'll be able to afford for me to stop work entirely and I don't want to put my baby in nursery for 55 hours a week as We'd miss out on so much! I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest. ☹️

Gronk27 · 01/02/2019 17:42

@Assumeitwassomethingclever how unsettling for you!

Baby has just stuck her bum (I think) right out of my bump. Very odd! I spoke to the midwife about having a sore bump and she said it was normal from what I described which was reassuring.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 01/02/2019 18:19

@assumeitwassomethingclever oh no that is horrible news. I hope there is an answer that works for all of you. One of reasons I didn't go back is that I would be in negative equity as it were - I would have been paying almost Β£20 a day to go to work!
You may be surprised how all the numbers play out or whether you can make part time work.
Hope it all sorts itself out for you

Angelmiracle · 01/02/2019 19:30

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I'm sorry to hear your news about work. It's all you need to hear going off on maternity. I'm also quite concerned that I'll have to go back to work sooner than I plan to help DH cope with all the bills. But hoping something will change somehow πŸ˜• and childcare to think of too. DS childminder won't be able to take on another baby.

Hope you're ok @Wineandchoccy

Wineandchoccy · 01/02/2019 20:29

@Angelmiracle Thanks for asking no change, had braxton hicks but definitely not contractions and a bit more mucus plug lost.

HidCat · 01/02/2019 20:40

@melissa112 I use that around our house. Hubby is going to do a good once over all around the bedroom with it before baby arrives and we'll do any other patches that appear too. Just make sure it's well ventilated and you'll be fine.

@Wineandchoccy eek exciting - though it can reform so don't panic!

@cardboard33 men can be useless sometimes.

@Harley8888 I wince whenever the midwife presses down. Not sure why it's painful for me but it really is sensitive all over the belly.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I hope you manage to find a resolution.

melissa112 · 01/02/2019 20:55

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever oh no, what a shame to have that put on you before you go off maternity. I'm also worried about childcare costs. I work 7:30am-3:45 so leave at 6:30 and get home after 5 so feel like I just wouldn't see baby much and pay over Β£800 a month for it. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

@HidCat thanks, I do feel much better knowing there's a few others that use it. I'd rather that than mould.

Bump is really sore today. Feel like there's so much pressure on my bladder. Had my growth scan today and baby now measuring bang on 50th percentile and estimated current weight 4lb14oz. All other measurements average and fluid and blood flow through cord good.

Harley8888 · 01/02/2019 20:56

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a sore belly.. the midwife did say it was normal at my last appointment but you can never be too sure I guess

@assumeitwaasomethingclever awful news about work - hopefully you can work something out. Have a look to see if you can apply for any bank positions (zero hours contract) at your local NHS hospital for some extra cash, most hospitals have an in house nursery for staff with reduced rates so worth looking into if you don't want to completely stop work? The NHS are always looking for bank staff to cover admin/clerical roles

Angelmiracle · 01/02/2019 21:36

Maybe you're being mentally prepared that an earlier arrival could happen! @Wineandchoccy

That sounds like a great scan @melissa112 mine is next week and hopefully baby is still on the 50th also!

BadBadBeans · 01/02/2019 21:48

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I am alternating dreadful and decent nights of sleep. Last night was great - a rare one where I didn't need to pee - but the night before I felt like I didn't sleep from about 3am onwards.

@cardboard33 MEN! Mine's been quite good about my annoying sleep habits as it happens. I am however looking at a rug I hoovered two days ago and is now covered in bits of wood and charcoal though... it's like he just doesn't see the squalor. Drives me crazy. Going to drive me a lot crazier when I have a newborn and no time to put it right myself!

@melissa112 we have mould all over the wall in our spare room, which is the room I'm planning to be in for the first few weeks after baby is born. DH is going to have to use proper mould remover as well as mould paint on it. I would say with such a small amount a little bit of chemical remover would not be something I would be worried about - just get your husband to do it, don't do it yourself!

@Wineandchoccy crikey it's all kicking off now! You guys have scared me into actually starting to pack my hospital bag tonight. So far I've packed the baby clothes. I've packed two sets - one for a tiny baby and one for a big baby!

BadBadBeans · 01/02/2019 22:46

Also, I had to take my wedding ring off tonight as I was getting a slightly tingly finger! Anyone else had to shed theirs?!

ballanj · 01/02/2019 23:26

Feeling very similar to lots you at the moment. Sleep is a distant memory, I'll fall asleep in one position which takes me about 30 minutes to settle into comfortably. Only to then awaken an hour later to wee. I'll then waddle back to bed and spend 20 minutes getting comfortable again. This will happen at least twice a night. When I wake up I've got either sciatic pain or a sore lower back. And all the while I wake up in the night I'll have Hulk kicking. I'm also fairly certain he can sense when my OH wakes up and give me a good kick to show it....rant over! πŸ˜‚

Hulk likes to shift over to one side of my belly to sleep and I tend to have his back or bum sticking out on that one side a lot!

ballanj · 01/02/2019 23:28

I should say me and the OH managed to get out of the house and go for dinner together which we haven't done for some time. We both said we must make the most of the time we have left just us two.

babycatcher411 · 01/02/2019 23:49

Another here struggling with sleep. I’m peeing about 5-7 times a night, and my other half is not sympathetic to my inability to get comfy each time I wake, he just grumbles at me for β€˜fidgeting’. Also the heartburn makes it hard to settle.
I know having a newborn is going to be hard, but my god, I can’t wait!

Angelmiracle · 02/02/2019 04:34

@ballanj yes this one starts wiggling at DH alarm going off in morning. He's just off night shift and came in for a chat baby started moving like crazy I'm now lying here awake 😴

@Angelmiracle morning!! I feel like the time around 5am is this ones witching hour.
I am really hoping my little one manages to get herself out of her current transverse position. It's really uncomfortable but is also making me super worried about c-sections etc.

ballanj · 02/02/2019 08:38

@babycatcher411 I feel the same as you, everyone is very much 'wait until you have a newborn' but I know I'll be able to deal with the broken sleep without the heartburn and other discomforts! Just to be able to move in and out of bed not resembling a sea lion lying flat on its back trying to turn over πŸ˜‚

Angelmiracle · 02/02/2019 09:33

@Miami81 hope she turns for you! I feel kicks/punches to both sides and wonder if baby is transverse but then I feel the hiccups right at my cervix. Seems as though they're still moving around a lot. DS was transverse at 34 weeks and did turn even though he was a big baby.

OP posts:
SquirtlesMumAgain · 02/02/2019 11:07

@ballanj it's a different type of discomfort with a newborn, but I definitely agree this time I will be better once she is here as at least I have a chance of feeling semi human!

Miami81 · 02/02/2019 12:07

I was sure I felt the hiccups down by my hipbone yesterday @Angelmiracle but the midwife was sure that her head was still lodged in my right rib. Having growth scans and she is measuring big so hopefully she still has enough room move.

toastfiend · 02/02/2019 12:44

Have to say, I feel better now he's here. I can get comfortable in bed, roll over without having to psych myself up, can pick stuff up when I drop it, don't have constant, debilitating hip and groin pain, don't have to wee every 2 minutes and, although I'm getting less sleep, the sleep I do get is actually peaceful. I've found the stitches much less painful than the SPD and my back doesn't hurt constantly now I don't have his bottom wedged under my ribs. I am tired, but I feel more like myself again and that makes it much more manageable.
