Oh Naps. That is such an awful thing and such terrible timing. What an arsehole. Def speak to MW about support and possible referral to talking therapies of some sort. You will get through it xxx

I had my 20/40 scan on weds too and all fine (after convincing myself it wouldn't be...!) Placenta is low lying, so will have another scan at 30 weeks to make sure it has moved, which it probs will. It might explain why I had fairly consistent intermittent spotting until 15 weeks?

I also finally allowed myself to by something for the baby yesterday, which was the first thing. I bought tractor and sheep leggings! (We live on a farm)

@heeby- its quite unusual for a hospital to offer a 35/36 weeks scan as routine (unless there is another issue) most just do the 12 and 20. I don't think there is any scientific evidence to support a 35 week scan, and they cost a fair amount, which is why its not normally offered at other trusts. You will have a midwife appointment at 36 weeks, and they will check the growth and position of the baby there, by feeling and measuring your bump with a tape. So its totally up to you if you want the scan or not. But nothing to worry about, just the hospital deciding to offer 'extra'!

I've just set up some antenatal classes in my local centre, as the nearest ones to me are 40 mins away, and then nothing heading north until almost 2 hours away... Had a dream that no-one turned up the other night. Arrgh!

Interesting that some places offer that extra scan - I have a growth scan at 36 weeks but that’s because of my massive first baby (and I think the scan is to help me decide between VBAC or ELCS even though I’m pretty sure I’ll have an ELCS).

Reastie · 25/01/2019 11:38

We only get a 12 and 20 week scan here but last time dd suddenly started measuring huge around 34 weeks so I then had to have a scan every other week until due date to keep an eye on growth, so if needed they will get you one further down.

Heebyjeeby99 · 25/01/2019 11:40

@Reastie how did they know she was measuring huge if no scan? Is it from bump size? Sorry FTM and totally know nothing!

Reastie · 25/01/2019 11:42

After a certain number of weeks (not sure when they start) they will measure the size of your bump at every apt and log it in your notes to see how big it is and rate of growth.

toomanyflatwhites · 25/01/2019 11:46

We are definitely not expecting another scan unless any concerns appear later. I'm glad yesterday's was so lengthy as midway through I was thinking that finally I'm starting to be able to recognise what I'm looking at (the face was so clear, we saw the baby's tongue moving swallowing fluid!) and it occurred to me that this is possibly my last (baby-related) scan EVER! Didn't ever want more than 2 children and now at 40 would be tougher anyway, so this is it for us I'm almost certain. Weird thought!
Have escaped to the supermarket (via the coffee shop first) for some peace before the rest of DP's family descend later 😳 Thankfully/amazingly DD slept all night (with a brief wake up when I came to bed at 11 to ask me to hold her hand - we are sleeping in mattress in her room due to visitors) then she slept until after 9am! So the first time in ages I had a good sleep from 11-almost 6, can't remember the last time!!!

Heebyjeeby99 · 25/01/2019 11:57

@Reastie o ok thank you. Guess it couldn't be for a while as I still don't have a bump!

stellarfox · 25/01/2019 12:37

We’re in the south west and think we’re done with scans now!

I went to see a nursery this morning for June 2020 which seems ridiculously early. They had told me they were already booked up for one of the days I wanted then so I panicked but they got the dates wrong and actually meant June 2019 so I think I have been looking a bit early! It was nice to see somewhere anyway, but I am keen to meet some childminders as I think it would be nice to be in a home setting if possible, and walkable! It’s really hard to think about what this little person I’ve never met would want!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/01/2019 13:02

@Heebyjeeby99 don't panic about the 3rd scan. This is my second baby and I am also getting a 3rd one at around 35weeks. No medical issues behind it. Its pretty rare, but in a select few areas it is standard. If they were scanning due to a medical issue they would tell you.
Despite being in special measures my local hospital is very advanced in antenatal - e.g. being offered harmony at no extra cost if you are in the middle or high risk band (yes, we have a middle band not just high or low) and the growth scan at 35 weeks etc.
A lot of people won't have heard of a third scan but its not in many areas yet.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/01/2019 13:07

I should add obviously you don't HAVE to have it. All scans are optional. At my routine 3rd scan with DS they thought he was small so ended up having a 4th scan a week later to check the placenta was still working and he was growing okay. So I will prob accept the 3rd scan again (20w+2 and haven't had my second scan yet!)

Kescilly · 25/01/2019 13:29

One more reminder if anyone wants to be added to the list! I’ll update it and start a new thread when I get home. Any title suggestions?

LauralovesLuke · 25/01/2019 13:37

@kescilly please would you add me?

@LauralovesLuke DC1 due 25th June

@heeby - I'm also a FTM and no 3rd scan here (west Midlands). Also no 3rd for friends living in Suffolk! I think you are just lucky.

PeachPotato · 25/01/2019 13:49

@kescilly - yes please!

@PeachPotato DC2 due 2nd June.

Fabuluce · 25/01/2019 14:42

I've got a scan at 36 weeks and did for my last pregnancy. It seems standard here.

Benefit of a scan is you can see their little faces if you're lucky! This was my son's. His nose is in the middle of the pic if you're struggling to see it. ❤️

Sitting in the hospital waiting for my 20w scan eek.

Heebyjeeby99 · 25/01/2019 15:17

@Fabuluce super cute!

@Blondcat good luck, let us know how it goes.

@KoalasAteMyHomework I guess we are the lucky ones, my hospital opened it's new antenatal unit in 2017 so maybe this is why they've invested in the extra scan. I'm so anxious I'll probably book a private one before that anyway....

MadeInCornwallx3 · 25/01/2019 16:02

@Blondcat Good luck!

Just the two scans here too, which was last week.

Also in the position of thinking that may well be the last scan I ever have. Surprise third baby here so 100% the last one!!!

Kescilly · 25/01/2019 16:04

Okay ladies, I started a new thread! Hopefully I haven't missed anyone! Sometimes the link gets lost so if you see anyone still posting here, try to redirect them to the new thread.

@Heebyjeeby99 I had my scan with DS in 2015. A lot of my friends booked in at other hospitals were jealous!
