My thought with maternity leave is it would be easier to finish earlier if I was struggling and couldn’t manage than to find when I get there I’m fine and I’d like to carry on a week or so more but it’s all been arranged and I can’t.

Coaster I love your response to feeding. I couldn’t believe how many times people asked me when I had dd if I was bfing. I’d never ask someone with a baby that yet it seemed one of the first questions everyone from all ages asked me Confused .

Fabuluce · 22/01/2019 11:59

My next midwife appt isn't until 28weeks. I'm guessing that's a second baby thing?

PeachPotato · 22/01/2019 12:10

I think the NHS only weigh at booking in (to assess risks from BMI), NT test scan (makes a difference to blood results) and only much nearer delivery (maybe 36 weeks?) - the last one is purely so they have an up-to-date-ish record if they need to urgently work out drug dosages during or after labour. They are very hands off about how much weight you put on ( I don't know if this changes if you are diagnoses with gestational diabetes.)

SassehMonsta · 22/01/2019 12:28

Meh, I haven't been weight at midwife since beginning. I was weighed a diabetes clinic when the ob-gyn team were in. I currently weigh less than when I fell pregnant, by a good 10lbs. I had put some on but its come off again now - I don't need to loose any weight thanks baby! I'm down to 9st 10lbs.

As second pregnancy, next midwife appointment should be 28 weeks. If first, or increased monitoring, they do 25 weeks too, so I am off at 25 weeks to see her. I popped a note in at my drs to see if she could do my Mat B1 sooner, so will check today when I take DD there for a suspected ear infection. sigh

I'm stressed about all sorts of things still.
Medical (DD ears, me onto insulin possibly on Thursday, DD and I with colds/coughs/runny noses, lack of sleep),
animal (last Tuesday the dog had a biopsy on a lump on his knee, no results back yet, possibly cancerous, quoted £5-600 for operation if needed),
and monetary (dog biopsy cost £130, plus medication £50 and collar £15, unbudgeted for, worry about the op cost, January is a LONG month between paydays).

I have been coughing so much and peeing myself that I have bought incontinence pads to wear.

Bigonesmallone3 · 22/01/2019 13:35

@LauralovesLuke
Throughout my last pregnancy I was weighed twice, once at booking in and once at induction.

I'm feeling better today, I did speak to my local day care and was advised to sleep it off 🙄..

LauralovesLuke · 22/01/2019 14:22

Ah ok I will stop worrying now!! Thanks all.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 22/01/2019 18:37

@Fabuluce This is my second so I'm not seeing the midwife again til 28 weeks.

hexagon01 · 23/01/2019 06:44

Just posting again as I dropped off! No midwife here til 28 weeks either, apart from after my scan next Tuesday. It’ll be all go after that though, every few weeks til the end 😱

Heebyjeeby99 · 23/01/2019 08:04

So I've had cramps all night, no sleep and my tummy looks smaller than pre-pregnancy......thank God I have my scan today although I'm a nervous wreck ....

fee1234 · 23/01/2019 08:23

@Heebyjeeby99 hope the scan goes well!

I think I'm going to ask if I can start working from home one day mid week.. I've started feeling a stitch pain in my lower bump which makes it uncomfortable to move around much and sleep etc. It seems to build when I do the walk to and from the train station every day, (about 15 min each way, moderate hill). Hopefully they will be okay with it because I can probably handle it better 4 days a week with a break in between rather than 5 days of a constant stitch. Google seems to think it's ligament pain

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/01/2019 08:48

I actually saw the midwife yesterday as I rang them as I’m finding things getting very much on top of me right now and this pregnancy is affecting me in physical and mental ways I’ve never experienced before, so she came to me Shock so we could “sense check” all was well with mind and body.

Things on the whole ok but have lost ability to add as I’m a week ahead and didn’t realise!

I would say to anyone on here that’s feeling a bit discombobulated by the gaps between appointments - tell them. This is my third baby and I now have Midwife at 23w, Consultant at 24w, Midwife at 28 and 32w, Consultant at 34w and then 38w and another midwife at 40w.

I also have the scan tomorrow at 9.30 and am a calm but jangly. If one more person says to me today “oh you’re not showing anymore” I’ll stab them.

toasterstrudle · 23/01/2019 09:54

20 week scan all done and looks normal - phew! With my son they picked up a cord abnormality at the 20 week scan which led to increased monitoring so I was a bit nervous. Even though all was fine in the end, just didn't want that horrid uncertainty. Half way there!

stellarfox · 23/01/2019 09:56

Good luck to those with scans!

@fee1234 I got a stitch like pain quite badly yesterday in my left side. I’m getting checked at the doctors as no Midwife’s were available. From my googling it sounds like round ligament pain but it was really painful changing gear in the car and walking around the office yesterday. Very strange!

Has anyone thought about furniture for their nursery? I don’t know whether to buy a set or a hemnes ikea drawers and possibly an ikea wardrobe. I don’t know how much storage space baby will need!

Torsz · 23/01/2019 10:27

@stellarfox we ordered the nursery furniture a couple of days ago - we got a set (cot, wardrobe and drawers with changing unit) from mothercare as they've got some good offers on at the moment ☺️ no room to store them but it'll be nice to have got the big purchases out of the way!

Kescilly · 23/01/2019 10:35

@stellarfox we have ordered our nursery furniture. It’s a three piece set with cot, dresser, wardrobe. I hadn’t initially thought about the wardrobe but we can use all the storage we can get.

@Torsz when does yours arrive? We still need to clear out the room, plus we are going to be halfway through having the floors redone when it arrives!

Torsz · 23/01/2019 10:37

@Kescilly ours is arriving Friday - we considered delaying but had horrible images of mothercare going bust before it arrived 😆

We have absolutely no space - our future nursery is full of everything from our conservatory and kitchen as we're mid-extension. Our living room and garage are full of the new kitchen ready for installation. Not sure where we'll put the boxes but at least it's flat pack!!

stellarfox · 23/01/2019 10:53

@Torsz @Kescilly Exciting! I’ll have to have a look at some sets and will try mothercare. I have seen a few of their stores closing down but hoping not my local! We used to have a babys r us/toys r us near us so it’s a shame that’s gone!

@fee1234 Doctor said it was definitely ligament pain so good news it’s nothing to do with baby. She just said to take it easy and I could ask my midwife to see a physio. I think I must have done it at the weekend when I lunged up a bank on a dog walk! 😅 Good idea if you can work from home!

Torsz · 23/01/2019 11:00

@stellarfox we had a toysrus too, the mothercare hasn't announced closure yet but it feels somewhat inevitable. I hope they stick around for a couple of years though - it's only 3 miles away so would be really convenient!

Glad it's just ligament pain ☺️👍🏻

fee1234 · 23/01/2019 11:02

@stellarfox we've got the furniture sorted, picked up an Ikea 4 drawer malm chest of drawers, a Ikea kallax storage unit. We don't have any room for a wardrobe so we went for 4 drawers instead, but it's a good height to even put a changing mat on etc. Also got a rocking chair from mothercare, and looking at getting cot and mattress from Asda while they are doing 20% off just now. We got the chicco next to me in the Black Friday sale when it was half price.

Not even looked at prams etc though!

Kescilly · 23/01/2019 11:04

Eek I didn't know Mothercare was in trouble! I've already struggled to find things here, not knowing the stores and living in a smaller city.

fee1234 · 23/01/2019 11:04

@stellarfox good news it was just ligament pain (I say just like it's not sore and uncomfortable!) my boss has agreed to let me work from home midweek each week which is great.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 23/01/2019 11:32

Thinking of you today @Heebyjeeby99. Hope all goes OK at the scan.

hexagon01 · 23/01/2019 14:31

Feeling a little bit silly. I have had some shooting pains all morning on my bump. I called triage and I need to monitor it and call back but now I’m fairly sure it’s actually just round ligament pain. It was more painful than I’ve had it before though. I was at work and I freaked out a bit, there are hardly any private spaces so loads of people saw me crying 😳 I’ve come home, more out of embarrassment than anything else.

Heebyjeeby99 · 23/01/2019 14:58

All fine! So so so relieved. I have an anterior placenta so explains lack of movement. They 'think' it's a girl but she had her legs firmly shut. Might even let myself start sorting the nursery now....I've had the door shut and everything boxed up because so convinced all wasn't well. Had my whooping cough which was ouch!!! But I didn't care as was so happy. Good luck to others who have scans today x

Kescilly · 23/01/2019 15:02

@hexagon01 sorry you’re having so much pain! Hopefully it will go down a bit soon and you can relax at home tonight.

@Heebyjeeby99 what a relief! So glad your scan went well. I’m waiting for my repeat scan, really hoping the heart looks okay. My NT measurement was high so I’ve been a little on edge about that because I know it can indicate other defects.
