@SilverSister We are looking at the icandy orange. A friend has it and really likes it. We have lots of tough pavements and snow but no public transport where we live so sturdy is more important than compact, at least for now! We thought it was pretty light in comparison to other full size ones and we like that all the bits are included... and we might need to make it a double if we decide to have a second!

Just remembered I meant to post this a while ago about apps that can apparently listen to bump heartbeats. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3289431-Apps-to-hear-the-baby-s-heartbeat

Hi ladies! 👋🏻 is anyone planning a babymoon? And if so can you recommend travel insurance for preggos? (will be 25/26 weeks when flying so well within safe to fly range)

stellarfox · 15/01/2019 07:39

Just on the topic of vaccines, if you’re trying to sleep on your left side don’t get whooping cough in your left arm! The injection itself was absolutely fine, but it’s sore afterwards.

Also re the flu jab I happened to see this article on reddit yesterday: www.upi.com/amp/Mom-to-bes-flu-can-harm-her-unborn-baby/2461547309960/

@SmallGeezer Would love a baby moon but we’ve got a few big house purchases as well as baby things so I don’t know if we can afford it. We might poss get something last minute! I always check MSE for travel insurance. Where are you going?

Blondcat · 15/01/2019 07:51

@smallgeezer currently on our babymoon 😁 we are insured with insure and go (annual policy which we have had for a number of years) they cover pregnancy. I did call to let them know just to ensure there are no issues should anything crop up but they said I was covered anyway without letting them know.

SilverSister · 15/01/2019 08:24

@2countries1bump Thanks! Useful to know. I think I've still got a lot of research to do before I'm even nearly ready to decide!

toasterstrudle · 15/01/2019 08:31

@Reastie what a shame about your tetanus injection! Re c section - I phoned my car insurance when I felt well enough to drive last time and they said there was no 6 week rule and they were happy for me to drive - might be worth looking into yours to see what they say? My gp said it's up to car insurers. I had emcs with last and going for elcs with this one.

fee1234 · 15/01/2019 08:34

Would love a baby moon but saving up all my leave for May. Actually feeling a bit down because this is the first January in ages we've not booked a summer holiday! I know baby is a much bigger adventure but I always love going away.

We are planning to wait and see what the baby is like, and maybe go a holiday when he's around 3 months old. We might be mad but we've always loved travelling and would like to continue doing it to some extent with a baby in tow.

Curlywurly3 · 15/01/2019 08:45

17 weeks yesterday and I finally have a little bump! I've got my midwife appointment in 45 minutes and I cannot wait to hear the heartbeat 😍
I've been reading all your posts on prams and they've been really helpful and made me realise it's going to need a lot of thought!! 🙈

June 2019 babies - part 5!!!!
annihall · 15/01/2019 09:44

@fee1234 we were planning the same for a holiday with the baby. Dh and I have always been travelling (we even met while we were both working on a ship that travelled around the world) and we are planning to go on more trips with the little one. We just bought a house and after Christmas money's tight anyway - so probably won't be able to afford a baby moon but we're hoping to go away later this year... people seem to think that's a crazy idea with a newborn but I'm sure we'll make it work :)

SmallGeezer · 15/01/2019 09:45

Thanks for the helpful advice all- looking at the Middle East (i know a lot of MNers aren’t fans but I need some sun 😬) and have an annual policy so will check what they say. I have A/l to use before my calendar re-starts in April so May as well use it up, this is my first one so appreciate am jammy being able to go away at all, don’t think I’ll get the chance again!

Hope you are having a lovely time @blonde!

All seems a bit real now doesn’t it. Have a great day everyone!

fee1234 · 15/01/2019 10:05

@annihall I know, people do think we are crazy but technically they would be quite portable at that age and fingers crossed I'll be able to breastfeed which would make things even easier.

We knew we were trying for a baby at the end of last year so we crammed in as much as we could last year, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, skydiving - so we do feel like we've managed a fair bit! I still want to see so many other places though, probably stick to Europe if we go away.

Reastie · 15/01/2019 10:19

Since having dd we didn’t venture on holidays more than 2/3 hours drive to make th journey as stressfree as possible as dd was awful in the car. We’re not very adventurous Grin . Last summer we went all the way to Cornwall (5/6 hour drive) and I had missed the place after 6 years not going (we previously went every Easter). Next May was going to be our first family foreign holiday to the south of France but plans have been delayed!

Fee love the sound of your amazing travels. We’re doing the same as you; waiting until we know what the baby is like then maybe booking something for end of August or October half term, although we’ll probably play it safe and stick with within a couple of hours drive of home again Grin . A couple of years ago we went on holiday to Milton Keynes and everyone laughed but it was such an ace holiday as there was so much to do in the area for dd. This time I’m wondering about (don’t laugh) the slough area as we can do day trips to legoland and the Harry Potter studio tour with dd. Not a very exciting location but dd would think the activities we can do would be great.

toomanyflatwhites · 15/01/2019 10:29

We actually went to India (Goa, so a world away from hardcore travelling style!) when I was pregnant with DD - went in Feb and she was born in May. We were there for a yoga retreat (not a pregnancy thing!!) as I had been many many times before I was really comfortable with it - we even drive round on scooters, did yoga every day, it was ace! We haven't been back since she was born but had thought about going this year, however DP tells me I'm wearing the cost of it on my finger and the flight money is in a ring box - we spent it on my engagement and wedding ring instead!!
Re going away with a baby, we had 2 weeks in France with both families (DP's family live there, mine came to join) when DD was 3 months old, we flew and it was fine (but staying with family so maybe a bit different than booking something unknown). Hoping to get there again this August but baby will be 6 weeks younger so could be trickier...if not, will go to France in September I expect. Travelling with a baby is FINE, much easier than with a toddler in my experience!!

WeeBean · 15/01/2019 10:41

We're hoping to get a couple of weekends up at my folks house in Portstewart, absolutely love it there, it's so relaxing. Apart from that we'll hopefully get a few nights down in Dublin or in Donegal. Won't be going anywhere we have to fly, we had our honeymoon in America when I was 5.5-8 weeks pregnant. Our holidays usually revolve around going to watch the NI football team rather than beach breaks, we've seen so many amazing cities in Europe that way. Towards the end of the year we're playing Germany and the Netherlands away and we're considering one or both. It will be a completely different experience with a baby though and I'd worry about the amount of noise at the game, possibly not a great idea!

Reastie · 15/01/2019 10:45

Weebean I’ve seen toddlers in ear defenders, I imagine you can get baby ear defenders too (although not sure how easy it would be to get them to keep them on!)

SassehMonsta · 15/01/2019 11:06

Teehee, holidaying to Milton Keynes sounds daft to me, but I spent a lot of my childhood there and I still only live 30 mins away! There is LOADS to do there though.

We haven't been away properly with DD, with the exception of camping trips. Went to South Wales when she was 7 months and just learnt to crawl, with the in-laws, to a home education camp. Then again to a home-ed camp on the South coast (near Hastings) when she was 3.5 - that was too hot and she wasn't sleeping, but otherwise she loved it.

We haven't got the money for a holiday. We are just getting out of a long-term debt situation and trying to put something (anything!) into savings. At the moment we have a single months rent worth of savings, and are still using an overdraft, but its almost £2k better than we were last year.

WeeBean · 15/01/2019 11:16

Reastie, oh yes, our friends have some for their wee boy for the noise at local games, worked a treat at the start but now at 9mo he isn't so fussed 😂

KoalasAteMyHomework · 15/01/2019 12:11

We thought about a holiday in March. Can't go abroad with DS so looked at centerparcs as we all love it there, but my back and hips are so painful at the moment and we can't really afford it so haven't booked in the end.

Fabuluce · 15/01/2019 12:57

We'll go to the West Highlands in October for a week and get a cottage, hopefully with some family. Plenty of walks on the beach, sandcastles still work even if it's cold!

We went to Australia and New Zealand when DS was 15 months and walking and had 6 flights in total. Anything is possible after that!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/01/2019 13:05

We're off to Grand Cayman at the end of Feb (live in NYC, so it's not that far) and then a long weekend in Deer Valley, Utah in March. DH wants to catch the end of ski season, and I'm tagging along to spend some time in the spa.

Bigonesmallone3 · 15/01/2019 13:21

We are hoping to go to the Canary Islands over the Easter hols, just sorting DS passport as it's only got 5 months left 🙄

toomanyflatwhites · 15/01/2019 13:23

@Bigonesmallone3 do you know what the temperature is like at that time of year? Apart from going on yoga retreats (India, Bali) DP and I have never had a holiday that didn't involve staying with his family but did want to try and do something pre number 2's arrival...

Reastie · 15/01/2019 13:27

I love how you’re talking of Goa, Canary Islands, New Zealand and I’m talking about Milton Keynes and Slough Grin 😂

Bigonesmallone3 · 15/01/2019 13:27

Around 23-24 depending on where you go.. so not baking but at 30 weeks pregnant I won't want that..
The Zika virus stopped us going where we had planned but a break is a break :)
