OH yes, I have just kind of agreed a provisional date for my maternity leave to start. Easter! I will be 34 weeks and will have had enough by then - I'm likely to be induced at 38 weeks anyway.

fee1234 · 14/01/2019 13:13

Scan went well, no abnormalities detected and growing perfectly. It's so nerve wracking sitting there in silence while they look at everything !

Reastie · 14/01/2019 13:16

Did you get to see the screen whilst they did it fee? I remember last time my sonographer moved the screen so I couldn’t see it for most of the scan to concentrate on doing the checks so I was just sitting there in silence slightly craning my neck to try to see something!

Changingagain · 14/01/2019 13:20

Glad ot went well fee another 3 weeks until mine.

SassehMonsta · 14/01/2019 13:38

We got to see the scan all the way Restie - she talked us through all the things she was checking for - 2 bones in the upper arm, lower arm, 2 bones in the legs etc, checking the 4 heart chambers and the blood flow through them, and the face for any cleft lip/palate issues, checking the brain stem/connection between the halves, and that there were 4 hands and feet etc.

Fascinating stuff! I want to take my sister to a scan, so may book one in where she can join me one weekend.

fee1234 · 14/01/2019 13:46

@Reastie yes there was a second screen above the bed so we were able to see on that one while the sonographer looked at their own screen. I can't believe how detailed it was they literally check everything! Here's the list of what they looked at

Wow! I remember at dds 20 week scan everything was measuring average except her waist circumference which was something like the 99th centile —takes after her mother with a big waist—

annihall · 14/01/2019 16:59

Glad your scans went well ladies :)
Got mine next week, getting a bit nervous but yesterday I definitely felt the baby move for the first time, and it's quite active again right now so I'm a bit less anxious now that I have get some movement

stellarfox · 14/01/2019 17:24

We had our 20 week scan this afternoon and all fine! We also had a second screen we could look at. We haven’t found out the sex and I didn’t really get a glimpse of the area except for 1 second but it wasn’t enough to see anything!

toasterstrudle · 14/01/2019 17:40

Brilliant scans!! Mines next weds, getting a bit nervous now. I had my whooping cough today and it was SO SORE and still is!! She did it right at the top of my arm/shoulder which seemed a weird place. I swear my other vaccinations were never there?! Still throbbing now arghhh!

Reastie · 14/01/2019 17:50

Toaster I’ve had flu jabs done there right up high before. I wonder how and why they choose where to jab it in Hmm

fee1234 · 14/01/2019 18:16

@toasterstrudle had my whooping cough today too and mines is so sore!

Bimbabo · 14/01/2019 18:23

I had my whooping cough nearly two weeks ago and still have a lump and was wors jag I've had. Least it's done now.

Our scan is a week on Friday. Can't be lived that we're halfway there now!!!

Heebyjeeby99 · 14/01/2019 18:46

@toasterstrudle mine is a week on Weds too. I am so so nervous, really convinced myself it's bad news. I hate being in my head sometimes!

Is whooping cough mandatory? They offered me the flu jab at my 12 week scan but I turned it down, not sure why it just didn't feel right. I'm not sure what I'll do about whooping cough, but of course if it's important for the bub then I'll do it.

Reastie · 14/01/2019 19:00

Heeby you don’t have to do it but they recommend it.

Changingagain · 14/01/2019 19:03

Heebyjeeby99 the whooping cough one is mainly for the baby. You get immunity and then pass it on to the baby which lasts until they're strong enough for their own vaccines. I'd really recommend it as whooping cough is really really bad for newborns.
I do remember having a sore arm for quite a while after I got it when expecting Ds though, so I'd ask for it in whichever side you don't sleep on.

Reastie · 14/01/2019 19:05

Oh no, I’ve been oooking into the whooping cough vaccine. NHS website says there’s no whooping cough only vaccine so the vaccine is for whooping cough, polio, tetanus and diphtheria. I last had a tetanus injection as a teenager and suffered a really bad reaction to it and was advised never to have it again unless essential Confused so now I don’t know. I’m so glad I googled! Do I speak to my gp or mw about this does anyone know?

MadeInCornwallx3 · 14/01/2019 19:07

@Heebyjeeby99 The whooping cough vaccine as far as I recall is to protect the baby from developing it whilst still young. It can be fatal so I would definitely recommend having it!

More info here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/whooping-cough-vaccination-pregnant/

I have my 20'week scan on Thurs! Nervous and have arranged to go and see a possible new car afterwards. Time to start getting organised!

MadeInCornwallx3 · 14/01/2019 19:11

@Reastie Did you have it in your previous pregnancy do you know? Apparently this one's been routine since 2012.

Definitely ask the midwife/GP if concerned though.

Reastie · 14/01/2019 19:15

No madeincornwall as it wasn’t offered last time as I was pg in 2010/11

Heebyjeeby99 · 14/01/2019 19:31

Thanks all, I will defo make sure I get my whooping cough and ask for it on my right arm as I've been trying to sleep on my left...apparently that's a thing!?

KoalasAteMyHomework · 14/01/2019 19:36

Reastie I had whooping cough vaccine when pregnant in 2015 and am sure it was whooping cough only. But best check with midwife or GP. Worth mentioning a previous reaction anyway, even to Tetanus one.

@Heebyjeeby99 no vaccine is mandatory so totally up to you. As a pp said, the vaccine is so you pass the immunity on to the baby so they are protected until they get their newborn jabs (at 6 weeks is it?)
There had been a bit of an outbreak of whooping cough last time I was pregnant and babies were picking it up before they left the hospital. Sadly some babies were very sick or died, so it can be serious.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 14/01/2019 19:38

Sorry Heeby, wrote my last post and then saw your most recent one!
Yes they do say sleeping on your left is better but I don't think its something to stress too much about. Just avoid sleeping flat on your back if you can!

Reastie · 14/01/2019 19:45

Good idea koala. Info attached taken from nhs website saying there isn’t a whooping cough only vaccine

June 2019 babies - part 5!!!!
Reastie · 14/01/2019 19:50

If anyone else is interested I’ve researched the vaccine is only available in th uk as a combination vaccine.

Baby gets first immunisation against whooping cough at 2 months.

I was all set to have it but given my past reaction to tetanus and being told not to have it again unless essential I’m debating not having it but feel terrible as I kmow it’s not the best thing for the baby. I won’t be able to drive after csection for 6 weeks so it’s unlikely I’ll be out and about much for the first couple of months with other people where baby could catch it before having the injection...gah. I’m going to discuss with mw at next apt see what she says.
